Home Office Minister Mike Tapp says that the government has reached the highest levels of deportations of illegal migrants "in a decade", with 60,000 unauthorised migrants having been deported since Labour took office in 2024. Tapp says the government is tackling illegal immigration by suspending visas for countries who don't take migrants back.

00:00Yes, we've made a commitment to the public that we'd restore order and control to the immigration system.
00:05What we've seen today in the announcement today is the highest deportations and removals in a decade.
00:11That's up to nearly 60,000 now, around 30% higher than what we saw under the last government.
00:17We've been really clear, if you're here illegally, you'll be deported.
00:21We're working hard at that. For example, if countries aren't taking people back, we'll threaten them with stopping their visas.
00:27And that's working. That's just over the last week ensured that we can return another 3,000 to 4,000 people.
00:33If countries aren't taking people back that shouldn't be in our country, then we will work hard to impose these visas in positions so that they can be deported and removed.
