00:01:29You know, I've got to prove myself as being, you know, worthy of fighting them.
00:01:34Tonight, it's undefeated super middleweight champion, Welshman Joe Calzacchi, next on Showtime Championship Boxing.
00:02:19We're here in the picturesque metropolis of Cardiff, Wales.
00:02:35Despite being Europe's youngest capital, this maritime city is filled with historic landmarks and medieval architecture.
00:02:44Tonight, the distinctive charm and natural beauty of Wales provide the backdrop for one of its native sons.
00:02:52He's super middleweight champion, Joe Calzacchi.
00:02:57In our main event, undefeated hometown hero Joe Calzacchi will put his WBO 168-pound title on the line against unbeaten number one contender Mario Feit of Germany.
00:03:10And in our co-feature, it'll be Bradley Price of Wales facing Jason Hall of England for the Macon WBO Intercontinental Lightweight Belt.
00:03:20A replacement bout for Richie Woodall versus Tux Owo, scrapped because of a back injury to Woodall.
00:03:27And we come inside of the Cardiff International Arena, which officially opened its doors back in 1993 with the Queen of England presiding.
00:03:35It has played host to a number of star attractions, including one of the most famous Welshman in the world, singer Tom Jones.
00:03:42Tonight, a local boxing star seeking more recognition around the world named Joe Calzacchi takes center stage.
00:03:50Hello again, everybody. Steve Albert ringside from Cardiff.
00:03:55This is a homecoming for WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzacchi, who hasn't fought in his homeland of Wales since 1999.
00:04:04Handsome and bold, Calzacchi is as popular here as you might expect.
00:04:08The problem is that while he's established himself as the most highly regarded 168-pound fighter in the world,
00:04:15he's lacking a dance partner that will help him define his career.
00:04:18Ali had Frazier, Sugar Ray had Marvelous Marvin, Holyfield had Tyson, Calzacchi has no one.
00:04:25Once a home to such superstars as the aforementioned Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, and Roy Jones,
00:04:31the super middleweight division has become a wasteland.
00:04:33Let's take a look at the world champions who reign alongside Calzacchi at super middleweight.
00:04:39The IBF champion is Sven Atke, who relies on his legs as much as his fists.
00:04:43Atke has a whopping three KOs in his 22 fights and seems content to defend his title only in his native Germany.
00:04:51The WBA champ, American Byron Mitchell, who regained the title in March.
00:04:54Mitchell, a power puncher but can be out-hustled.
00:04:57The WBC champion for the moment is Canadian Davey Hilton, who was recently convicted of sexual assault and faces jail time.
00:05:04And with that, let me bring on my ringside partner, former world champion Bobby Chez.
00:05:10And Bobby, on the subject of Joe Calzacchi, exactly what are his options given the fact he doesn't have that dance partner?
00:05:16Well, Steve, his options are somewhat limited right now.
00:05:19And first and foremost, he must get by tonight's fight.
00:05:22He must beat Veidt and he must beat him impressively if he wants to continue on his quest toward fighting Roy Jones Jr.
00:05:27I think the very next thing he needs to do, though, he needs to get one of the other super middleweight champions to step up, risk his title, and try a unification bout.
00:05:33Unless he has the experience of a unification bout and the clamor that goes with it, I don't think the Roy Jones fight will ever come off.
00:05:39Roy Jones is too big right now, too strong, too experienced, and he's just too skilled.
00:05:43Calzacchi, 30-0 with the 25 knockouts, comes off a fight in which he pretty much had his way against his old pal, Richie Woodall, when he scored a 10th round TKO.
00:05:52Well, tonight, Calzacchi faces number one-ranked Mario Feidt of Germany in what has been a disastrous month for British boxing.
00:06:00Calzacchi will have to remain focused if he is to avoid a similar fate as countrymen Lennox Lewis and Nassim Hamed.
00:06:06Now, Feidt is hoping to become the next man to upset a British fighter.
00:06:10What does he bring to the ring, his major assets?
00:06:13Well, he certainly brings good height and reach.
00:06:15At 6'3", with a lot of reach, he brings that and acts as a built-in defense and a built-in offense.
00:06:19He can hit you before you can hit him, it makes you work harder to get inside.
00:06:23It's going to be difficult for Calzacchi to do that, so what he has to do is work his way in there.
00:06:27But then again, this guy's got a great jab, a good power jab, and a straight right hand.
00:06:31If he turns out to have a good chin, it'll be a long night for the champion.
00:06:34For Mario Feidt, his first world title shot, also 30-0, has 18 knockouts, but his quality of opposition is very questionable.

00:07:12Let's get to it, our opening bout.
00:07:15Bradley Price versus Jason Hall for a fringe title, the vacant WBO Intercontinental Lightweight title,
00:07:21a domestic battle between a pair of top young area prospects.
00:07:24And let's give a look to the Englishman, Jason Hall, won 9 of his 11, only 2 by knockout.
00:07:32Actually began his pro career in Las Vegas in 97 with an explosive third-round TKO,
00:07:37uncharacteristic generally of his style, more of a boxer than puncher.
00:07:41After fighting in the U.S. and Canada, he returned to Britain, where he's made some nice progress,
00:07:46considered one of England's more promising lightweights, despite the two losses.
00:07:51Your assessment of Hall, Bobby?
00:07:52Well, Steve, we're going to have to go into the locals for some scouting reports and talking to the fighter himself.
00:07:57He's a boxer, not a puncher, limited power.
00:08:00And I'll tell you what, it's one of those things, too, where conditioning could be a huge factor here
00:08:04if the pace starts too quickly for him.
00:08:07As you take a look at the keys to victory, courtesy of Mr. Chez, for Jason Hall.
00:08:14First 12-round fight fought his first eight-rounder just 27 days ago, April the 1st.
00:08:22The man who's the hometown favorite is Welshman Bradley Price, unbeaten in 10 fights, six knockouts, hasn't come close to losing.
00:08:30Part of a big boxing family under the supervision of Joe Calzaghe's father, Enzo, has five brothers who also fight,
00:08:37but he's supposed to be the best.
00:08:39Some of his wins, very impressive, being described here in Britain as one of the premier up-and-coming prospects at 135.
00:08:47Is he a legitimate prospect?
00:08:48Well, we're going to see, Steve.
00:08:50He's got power in both hands.
00:08:51I've seen tapes.
00:08:51He can bang, can box a little bit.
00:08:53Very, very energetic.
00:08:55He can control himself.
00:08:56We'll see.
00:08:56What he wants to do is set a fast pace.
00:08:59That's his game.
00:09:00Throw the punches in bunches and land those power shots.
00:09:02He can hit with both hands.
00:09:06All right, let's go to Jimmy Lennon, Jr. for the introductions.

00:10:50His record stands at nine wins and two losses.
00:10:53He has two wins coming by way of knockout.
00:10:56Introducing Jason.
00:10:58Kid London Hall.
00:11:06And his opponent across the ring on my right.
00:11:09Fighting out of the blue corner in this 12 round attraction.
00:11:12Wearing white trunks with black trim.
00:11:14Fighting out of New Bridge, South Wales.
00:11:18He weighed in at nine stone, seven pounds, ten ounces.
00:11:22For 133 and three quarter U.S. pounds.
00:11:25He is undefeated in his campaign to the ring.
00:11:28Ten wins, no losses.
00:11:31Six wins coming by way of knockout.
00:11:33Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the undefeated Bradley Sugar Sweet Price.
00:11:40Once again, a referee in charge, Paul Thomas.
00:11:48Now to give instructions, 12 rounds of boxing schedule.
00:11:51Let's look at the numbers which favor Bradley Price, who just turned 20 last month.
00:11:55Five years younger than Hall.
00:11:56Two-inch height advantage for Price, who also has the three-inch edge in reach.
00:12:00At yesterday's weigh-in, they were both under.
00:12:03Price 145 for the Fight Hall, 147.
00:12:06And the key rules for this marginal championship, no standing eight count, no three knockdown.
00:12:12A fighter cannot be saved by the belt any round.
00:12:14If an accidental headbutt occurs before the end of the fourth, it's a technical draw.
00:12:17After the end of four, we go to the cards.
00:12:24Bradley Price, his major strength is punching power.
00:12:27He's displayed fast hands and accurate combinations.
00:12:29Excellent left hook and a solid chin.
00:12:32Jason Hall, more of a boxer, known for his slick ability and his quickness.
00:12:39Price very anxious, trying to get right to the fight.
00:12:43You can see that he's so nervous, but the energy's just coming out.
00:12:47Just as he told us, he would start very quickly from the word go.
00:12:51He wanted to take it, too.
00:12:52Jason Hall worked very fast and jumped right on him as he has.
00:12:57Price predicted a fifth-round knockout, perhaps because he's never been past five.
00:13:01And they are really going at it here early.
00:13:04I'll tell you what, a couple of those little hooks landed pretty soundly.
00:13:06And so far, Paul not showing any ill effects.
00:13:10Price feels that his power and speed will be the key differences.
00:13:14He does respect Paul.
00:13:16But he says he's going to knock him out.
00:13:19Well, he said, too, Hall's a good boxer from the outside.
00:13:21He said, I can't let him stay outside.
00:13:22I've got to eventually go to the body, slow him down.
00:13:24Price admits his own weakness as he tends to drop his hands.
00:13:28He keeps his hands low.
00:13:30We saw evidence of that just a moment ago.
00:13:34It's funny, during the interviews, Paul said he keeps his right hand down.
00:13:38Price said he keeps his left hand down.
00:13:40So they both know that one of his hands is down.
00:13:42Well, you know, when you come over here to Britain, everything's on the other side, right?
00:13:45All said he looked for Price to start fast.
00:13:52This is not the front page news to him.
00:13:57But he said he'll control the pace.
00:13:58Talking about Jason Hall, who's wearing the blue trunks.
00:14:01But he thinks that Bradley Price is a leaky defense.
00:14:08Well, right now, he's coming forward a little bit with the jab being effective.
00:14:11Through a nice right hand that landed, not real clean,
00:14:13but starting to get a little bit of the better of the exchanges.
00:14:17Yeah, pretty good left hook there by Jason Hall.
00:14:20Hall going to the body now.
00:14:23And Price hanging on.
00:14:25He smiles at Hall.
00:14:26Final minute of the opening round.
00:14:29It's scheduled for 12.
00:14:30The first 12-rounder for both fighters.
00:14:37Paul feels that he wants this fight the most
00:14:40and has more skill and heart.
00:14:44Well, that's all boxers talk before a fight.
00:14:47Well, the first part of the round, you saw Price coming forward.
00:14:49Now you see Price retreating more than not.
00:14:52Interesting turn of event.
00:14:54Oh, a right uppercut by Price.
00:14:56And then he pushes Hall back with a straight right hand over the top.
00:15:03Paul's game.
00:15:04Big swing and a miss.
00:15:09Power right now is all in Price's hands.
00:15:11He's the better puncher.
00:15:12He's doing more damage with the blows that land.
00:15:15Price undefeated.
00:15:1710-0, six knockouts.
00:15:19Paul, 9-2, only 2 KOs.
00:15:21Paul reached out with a right and connected.
00:15:23All in all, not a bad round for the English for Jason Hall
00:15:32against the power hitter, Price.
00:15:35Get this jab landing.
00:15:36Get this jab landing, right?
00:15:38Tighten up.
00:15:39You start getting the circumcision.
00:15:40All right?
00:15:41You're right, left hook.
00:15:42Right?
00:15:43Okay?
00:15:43Just shot.
00:15:44Right, left hook.
00:15:45All right?
00:15:46Okay?
00:15:46All right?
00:15:47Okay?
00:15:48All right?
00:15:48All right?
00:15:48That's a fine jab.
00:15:55All right?
00:15:55Come to the next shot.
00:15:57So you jab and bring him back.
00:15:58All right, jab.
00:15:59Follow right straight away.
00:16:01All right?
00:16:01Okay?
00:16:02So you can't hurt ya.
00:16:03All right?
00:16:04I don't want you to be a no hero and try and show people you've got a good chin.
00:16:07That's rubbish.
00:16:08I don't want to see that.
00:16:08All right?
00:16:09Tuck up tight.
00:16:10As he throws, jab right hand through the middle, walk back away again.
00:16:13Don't walk after him.
00:16:14You hit him.
00:16:15Don't walk after him.
00:16:16Walk away.
00:16:17He's trying to throw you in.
00:16:18Walk away from it.
00:16:19Yeah?
00:16:19Do it for me.
00:16:20Let's go, son.
00:16:20Go back in the centre of the ring and stand there.
00:16:23Let's go.
00:16:24Keep your right hand up.
00:16:25Round two.
00:16:28Round two.
00:16:30Price in the white trunks.
00:16:32Fought on the Tyson Francis card.
00:16:34Big break.
00:16:34Only his fourth fight in January of 2000 in Manchester, England.
00:16:38He won a fourth round decision over a more experienced opponent.
00:16:42And perhaps his most impressive effort, a third round TKO over a fighter named Joel Viney.
00:16:47Price dropped Viney in the first and second round.
00:16:51And he's looking to drop Hall here.
00:16:52He missed there with the left hook.
00:16:54You can see Price is loading up.
00:16:56Even this round, he came out with all power jams.
00:16:58Nothing soft.
00:16:59Everything hard.
00:17:00As if to intimidate Hall.
00:17:01But Hall, as Connor said, he took the best he has.
00:17:03You don't have to show that you've got a good chin.
00:17:05Go out there, move off.
00:17:06Don't let him suck in.
00:17:07This fight, a brawl from the get-go.
00:17:11Fought almost entirely in the center of the ring.
00:17:14They have one common opponent.
00:17:16His name, Gary Fleer.
00:17:18F-L-E-A-R.
00:17:19Hall won an eight-round decision.
00:17:20His last fight over Fleer.
00:17:22Price beat Fleer by a first-round TKO last July.
00:17:27The only advantage that Hall maybe has is that he's been eight.
00:17:30And Price has only been five.
00:17:31Hall, every once in a while, digs down and works out of a deep crunch.
00:17:45Right now, Hall's just not throwing enough punches.
00:17:48Even the punches that are missing or hitting glove, Price is at least throwing some, offering up some offense.
00:17:52All who did fight recently, less than a month ago, has had long stretches of inactivity.
00:17:59Good exchange at the center of the ring there.
00:18:02And a big right hand by Price to the head from Hall.
00:18:05The right hand got all of his attention and then saw it.
00:18:12A furious pace here in round two.
00:18:20Price knows he's in a fight.
00:18:23Price missing again with the left.
00:18:25Going back to the jab.
00:18:27Price showing his quickness defensively.
00:18:41Right now, Hall's making a few moves.
00:18:43Jab here, jab there.
00:18:44They're not really throwing anything that's going to do any damage.
00:18:46He needs combinations.
00:18:47Got to put them together.
00:18:49And the difference in this fight could be the power as Price continues to smile.
00:18:53A whacking left hook off the ear of Hall.
00:19:01And ultra-confident Bradley Price, local fighter from Wales.
00:19:07Straight right hand that landed by Price to the head.
00:19:10And there's another right over the top of the temple.
00:19:12Right hand starting to find a home.
00:19:15Hall really eating some leather now.
00:19:18Quickly, no shots.
00:19:20As we head for the bell in round two.
00:19:23Alright.
00:19:31Now this great puncher, alright?
00:19:34Alright.
00:19:36Now this great puncher, alright?
00:19:38Fast, head up with three B's behind and one-twos.
00:19:40Alright?
00:19:40You leave him one-twos.
00:19:42Alright?
00:19:42You take your three B's in.
00:19:43Alright?
00:19:44Alright?
00:19:45Alright, you enjoy that round.
00:19:46That's good, but don't know the pitch around.
00:19:47He's nipping away, alright?
00:19:49Yeah.
00:19:49Okay, don't know the pitch around.
00:19:50You want to come in with three Vs, all right?
00:19:53Don't come with a hook on its own.
00:19:55Come with your right and left hook, all right?
00:19:57You come with that left hook.
00:19:58He's open in the middle, all right?
00:20:00You wouldn't eat that.
00:20:01Don't open up in the middle.
00:20:02You come in there.
00:20:03Step on and hook that way.
00:20:05Right and left hook.
00:20:06Come on, Winnie Bain's dance.
00:20:08Winnie and left hook.
00:20:09He's actually heated up.
00:20:10Christ coming in with the bombs that he always does.
00:20:12There's the left hook that Paul got caught on the very end of.
00:20:16His hands are just heavier, and it's making the difference.
00:20:19Here's a straight right hand.
00:20:21Well, that's actually the overhand right to the temple,
00:20:23followed by a nice jab.
00:20:24Again, Price's power makes a difference.
00:20:28As Hall comes out for round three
00:20:30to face the power-punching Bradley Price.
00:20:36Scheduled for 12 for something called
00:20:38the WBO Intercontinental Lightweight title.
00:20:41Sometimes when you fight a fighter whose punches are so heavy like that,
00:20:44it also takes a lot more energy to generate those bombs.
00:20:46You have to outwork them with numbers
00:20:48and out-hustling.
00:20:49And Hall's not doing that right now.
00:20:54He has tapered off
00:20:55after a more impressive first round of boxing has Hall.
00:20:59And perhaps that's from tasting
00:21:01a lot of that power of Bradley Price.
00:21:03It has worn him down.
00:21:09Price really coming on here.
00:21:11A good right hand.
00:21:12Nice combination by Price.
00:21:14And Hall, again, he needs a counter.
00:21:16He's got to let Price know he's going to pay for doing that
00:21:19and just coming in and walking that will.
00:21:21Price now dictating the tempo of this fight.
00:21:24Walking Hall back.
00:21:26You have to wonder, too, if this fight gets past the fourth or fifth round,
00:21:36how the condition factor is going to affect both fighters,
00:21:38not just physically but mentally.
00:21:39They're worrying about it.
00:21:40Price told us he trained for 24 rounds.
00:21:43Interesting.
00:21:44The 24 rounds are going to have to be a new home home fight.
00:21:49I love the way these guys talk in the fighter meetings sometimes.
00:21:55That's right combination by Price,
00:21:57but it didn't do that much damage.
00:21:59Stop boxing!
00:22:00Watch them shots, Ron.
00:22:01I keep telling you.
00:22:03Watch on.
00:22:05The warning of a low blow.
00:22:06I think on the inside by Price.
00:22:08I didn't see it.
00:22:09But evidently, the referee did.
00:22:11I didn't see it either.
00:22:12The referee, Paul Thomas of Derby England,
00:22:14cautioning Bradley Price.
00:22:18Looked like they were right on the belt.
00:22:24The left hand there, a big hook by Price.
00:22:26It was a nice counter right here,
00:22:28but not the same steam on it by Hall.
00:22:34There was a decent left hook,
00:22:36the one he talked about using against Price by Hall,
00:22:38but not the power that he needs to generate
00:22:40to get Hall's attention.
00:22:41Excuse me.
00:22:42You get Price's attention.
00:22:43Price showing a better defense here than in the past,
00:22:46keeping his gloves up, guarding.
00:22:51Tendency to keep those hands down low.
00:22:54You mentioned that too in the universe.
00:22:55You said, I know my hands are down both of them
00:22:57from time to time.
00:22:58I tried to make some adjustments
00:22:59because I know they see that in the form.
00:23:04Nice combination there by Hall on the inside.
00:23:06Yeah, I got Price's attention.
00:23:14A little more aggressiveness coming from Hall here.
00:23:16A little more effective than maybe
00:23:17some of those big punches and misses,
00:23:19getting a little tiresome for Price.
00:23:22A strong finish here by Jason Hall in the blue.
00:23:25With some pretty good elusive moves as well, just at the bell.
00:23:34That's one in the bank for you.
00:23:35Breathe up.
00:23:37Breathe up.
00:23:38Just breathe up and relax.
00:23:40Just breathe up and relax.
00:23:41Nice and relaxed.
00:23:43Good round, mate.
00:23:44That's one in the bank, son.
00:23:45Right?
00:23:46Listen to me.
00:23:47Don't talk, just listen.
00:23:48Yeah?
00:23:49When he throws his jab,
00:23:50he brings it back down to his waist.
00:23:51Right.
00:23:52Yeah?
00:23:53Your timing's got to be right,
00:23:54you're banging the right hand over the top after it.
00:23:55Right.
00:23:56But don't go looking for him after you've hit him with it.
00:23:57Right.
00:23:58Sit and be patient.
00:23:59Yeah?
00:24:00The opportunity straight right hand to the body
00:24:01and stand up with the left hook.
00:24:02Yeah?
00:24:03Two shots is enough, Jay.
00:24:05Yeah?
00:24:06Two shots is enough.
00:24:07Backing him up and start letting him go.
00:24:09As he backs up, keep him backing up.
00:24:12You're flowing with your shots,
00:24:13you're not flowing,
00:24:14you're waiting, waiting to counter him.
00:24:16You're doing what your mother's doing.
00:24:17Don't do that.
00:24:18A few good straight shots at him.
00:24:20Come on, son.
00:24:29It's round four.
00:24:32You'll notice in the lower right-hand corner,
00:24:34on the right leg,
00:24:35the trunks of Hall.
00:24:3719 and a question mark.
00:24:38He says 19 and a question mark.
00:24:40That's right.
00:24:41I saw that too, but I didn't know what that was about.
00:24:43Apparently he's upset about his ranking,
00:24:45which is number 19.
00:24:47In the Boxing News, he was number 35,
00:24:50but he thinks he should be ranked higher.
00:24:54So he's got quite a sense of humor there, Jason Hall.
00:24:58I kind of like that.
00:25:00Shows at least the right attitude.
00:25:02He's thinking.
00:25:03Well, his last round was his best round.
00:25:04I'm not quite sure he pulled that round out.
00:25:06I thought he got outlanded early
00:25:07by a little too many,
00:25:08a little too many big power blows,
00:25:10but he's starting to make a move.
00:25:12Price chasing Hall around.
00:25:24Well, there have been some great lightweights in this category
00:25:27from the UK, Freddie Welsh, who ironically was Welsh,
00:25:30a product of tonight's host country, Wales,
00:25:33that Baraday.
00:25:34Brought back in the team's Hall of Famer Ken Buchan.
00:25:35Cristian Buchan, good right uppercut.
00:25:36He'll go right uppercut, that staggered Hall.
00:25:39He really felt that.
00:25:41Another right uppercut to the jaw by Bradley Price.
00:25:48Price having his way, left and right,
00:25:52and he's connecting, it will.
00:25:53Hall started with that right uppercut, he timed them beautifully, just like that again.
00:25:57Dipping to the right and coming up underneath that right uppercut.
00:26:01Well, they thought that Hall scored well in the last round in Hall's corner.
00:26:06Hall just got through with a good right hand, but this is Price's round overall.
00:26:14Price is just having his way now.
00:26:15I think the uppercut really took something out of Hall.
00:26:18He's just not jumping back and working on the combinations.
00:26:21He's going straight back with his head up.
00:26:22There he starts to dip, but not the same.
00:26:25You've got to like the way Price goes back to that fundamental jab.
00:26:30Right there.
00:26:33It'll set up the right.
00:26:37Very basic stuff.
00:26:38Good combination to the head.
00:26:39Left, right by Hall out of nowhere.
00:26:43And Price had his hands down low that time and didn't guard again.
00:26:46Nice jab by Hall.
00:26:54Right now, Hall seems to be tired, showing some signs of fatigue for the fact he's getting hurt.
00:27:00Now, these punches by Price have to be taking their toll on Hall.
00:27:11That will exhaust the fighter as much as anything.
00:27:15Right hand off the top of Hall's head.
00:27:19Price, a very busy fighter, very active.
00:27:21There's a lot of punches.
00:27:22Yeah, no, he's keeping busy and he's being accurate.
00:27:25He's landing and he's scoring.
00:27:27Final seconds of the fourth.
00:27:29Stop!
00:27:30You all right?
00:27:40Yeah, good.
00:27:40Breathe out.
00:27:41Breathe out.
00:27:42Right hand's getting his distance now.
00:27:43You're giving the opportunity for him to hit you with a right uppercut a couple of times, yeah?
00:27:46You spoke about it, Jay.
00:27:48Yeah.
00:27:48Should be letting him do it.
00:27:50Yeah?
00:27:50Right.
00:27:50Remember, we roll out.
00:27:52We don't roll inside and stay down there.
00:27:53We roll out.
00:27:54Yeah?
00:27:55Right.
00:27:55Roll off with his right hand.
00:27:56Because otherwise you're going to throw the right uppercut.
00:27:58I don't want him doing that.
00:27:58I don't want anything new with that.
00:27:59Step in with your right hand.
00:28:02Watch that right uppercut on the inside.
00:28:03There's a left hook and he turns it right up there.
00:28:06You see him right up underneath the chin and he follows it right over the top.
00:28:10We get another look.
00:28:11Misses the right hand, turns the hook in and he turns it right up underneath in between the gloves.
00:28:15It's a pretty shot.
00:28:16And he landed several of those that round.
00:28:21I watch a follow-up rally uppercut and there were two or three more after that.
00:28:25Starting to find a home for the right uppercut.
00:28:27Round five.
00:28:42It is scheduled for 12.
00:28:44Bradley Price, the hometown favorite, and the white, Jason Hall of England, in the blue.
00:28:51There was a little accidental headbutt there that I don't think anyone saw.
00:28:54But I can see the fighters both wincing at him.
00:28:57I mentioned Freddie Welsh and Ken Buchanan, the Hall of Famer.
00:29:02Another Scott named Jim Watt, now a broadcaster here in the U.K.
00:29:07In the early 80s, he's rounding out the terrific lightweights in U.K. history.
00:29:11All three of those fighters had the distinction of losing to legendary names.
00:29:18The most impressive part about Price right now is that jab is being so consistent.
00:29:22He's keeping it in Hall's face, setting up everything with the jab.
00:29:25It's making this fight easy for him.
00:29:27And as mentioned earlier, Price did predict a knockout in this round.
00:29:34He's never been past five rounds.
00:29:37I've got a funny feeling things are about to change, Steve.
00:29:39He's going for it.
00:29:51Hall with the jab, but he didn't follow it up.
00:29:53It was, as you like to put it, one and done.
00:30:04There's a pretty good right hand over the top by Hall.
00:30:06Down the right hand by Hall, but now he needs to throw the left hook behind.
00:30:09He's not a big bunch of some of these numbers.
00:30:13Yes, again, he held back and didn't follow it up.
00:30:19He needs to start out working, Price.
00:30:21That's going to be smart for him to do.
00:30:24There you go, Price.
00:30:25Big shots are not working.
00:30:36Those punches, for the most part, being blocked by Hall.
00:30:49Every once in a while, Hall, Price sneaks in a little smile at Hall.
00:30:54There's a good right hand by Hall.
00:30:56One of the better combinations he's had since the second round.
00:31:00He still needs to just work a little harder.
00:31:02What Price does is come out and set the tone for the round.
00:31:05Outwork him the first minute, minute and a half.
00:31:07And then Price has to come back.
00:31:08But he's always fighting from the Hall.
00:31:10He's always coming back from behind.
00:31:11Not good.
00:31:12Price seemingly looking for a second win here all of a sudden.
00:31:16The pace has slowed.
00:31:18And Hall is doing most of the work.
00:31:19He's not particularly landing, but he's more active.
00:31:27That Price moving back.
00:31:32Well, coming up next, our main event.
00:31:36Calzaghe versus fight for the WBO Super Middleweight Championship.
00:31:40We'll take you into the dressing room of the champion, Joe Calzaghe.
00:31:43He'll have the big home crowd support, although born in Hammersmith, England.
00:31:47His home is Newbridge, South Wales.
00:31:50The popular, affable Calzaghe with a smile on his face here has never lost 30-0 with 25
00:31:56knockouts coming off the impressive 10th round TKO over his longtime buddy, Richie Woodall.
00:32:02Will the pressure of upholding the pride of a nation as this fight is being built get to
00:32:06Calzaghe?
00:32:08We'll find out soon.
00:32:10While I have a minute, I want to look to Steve Albert fans at home.
00:32:12No, he just celebrated his 29th birthday on Thursday.
00:32:16Well, you're obviously going from the special sportscaster's calendar, which was incidentally
00:32:21developed by my brother, Mark.
00:32:23There you go.
00:32:24Happy birthday, pal.
00:32:24Thank you very much.
00:32:25I appreciate it.
00:32:26Yeah?
00:32:26Let's do it.
00:32:27Where's the chat?
00:32:29Round six.
00:32:30I know.
00:32:31It's in the mail.
00:32:34That's what they all say.
00:32:36Still waiting.
00:32:37Well, let's see if Hall can sort of pick up where he left off there toward the end of
00:32:42round number six.
00:32:44It seemed like Price was running out of a little steam, a little gas.
00:32:48Hall is starting to turn it around.
00:32:49But what happens is this.
00:32:50Each and every round, Price starts fresh.
00:32:53He puts pounding on Hall like that.
00:32:55And Paul has to fight from behind after the round is half over.
00:33:00Yeah, Price got another wake-up call between rounds, and now he's letting it fly again.
00:33:07Left hand missed.
00:33:11But he seems to have his energy level back up there, Price in the white.
00:33:15Punches always start the round stronger and finish them more slowly.
00:33:18This is where Price needs offset to work early.
00:33:21Excuse me.
00:33:21Hall needs offset, Price to work early, and then close.
00:33:28Like that.
00:33:31Make a miss and work them back.
00:33:32Counter and counter to counter.
00:33:34Some blood under the right eye of Hall.
00:33:37Just not enough mustard or pop behind those Hall punches.
00:33:41Different story with Price.
00:33:43Price, in case you're wondering, never on the canvas, pro or amateur.
00:33:53Ball never down as well, but he's been stopped twice.
00:33:56Once on cuts.
00:33:58Nice right-hand counter he just threw.
00:34:00Price comes back with bombs.
00:34:02That's his big left hook, Bradley Price, and he connected right on the button.
00:34:08One of his major weapons is the left hook.
00:34:11And not a bad right uppercut as well, as you just saw.
00:34:16But Hall showing a pretty good beard, as they say.
00:34:20Showing a very good chin and a lot of courage.
00:34:22He hasn't done any body work those days.
00:34:23You can't help but wonder if he hits that puncher,
00:34:26and the body sometimes maybe slows him down.
00:34:27Takes a little steam out of the puncher.
00:34:30Trying to go to the body a little more here,
00:34:32towards the end of round six.
00:34:34So much for Bradley Price's prediction of a fifth round knockdown.
00:34:37Price has switched to south one now.
00:34:39Yes, he has.
00:34:40Let's see if it has any effect.
00:34:42Ever so quickly.
00:34:44Short and live.
00:34:44Yeah.
00:34:46So much for that strategy.
00:34:49See if he can confuse his opponent.
00:34:51That may have been the fastest switch to south, Paul, I've seen.
00:34:57And then back to conventional.
00:35:01Right uppercut digging in by Price on the inside.
00:35:05A little trickle of blood under the right eye of Paul.
00:35:09Right eye swelling a little bit too, starting to get a little bit ugly.
00:35:11Price, one of six boxing brothers.
00:35:22We met the youngest, 11-year-old Luke, yesterday.
00:35:25Again, the punches from Price are just too heavy.
00:35:27The ones that land, there's so much more damage.
00:35:30Here comes Price.
00:35:30They're trying to close the round well.
00:35:36Here comes, Houston.
00:35:36Can you get it out of your tongue?
00:35:39Yeah.
00:35:41All right, nice and relaxed.
00:35:43Nice and relaxed.
00:35:44All right, breathe up.
00:35:45Breathe up.
00:35:46No rush.
00:35:47Breathe up.
00:35:48Breathe up.
00:35:48Come on.
00:35:49Breathe up.
00:35:51Breathe up.
00:35:53Right, Jay.
00:35:54Yeah.
00:35:55Game plan for you now.
00:35:57Push him back, yeah?
00:35:57Yeah.
00:35:58Back him up.
00:35:59Get your feet in.
00:35:59Don't leave your feet behind.
00:36:00Bryce's hands are just so much more powerful.
00:36:08He unloads with the big right hand.
00:36:09There's no right hand right down the middle.
00:36:11Just a beautiful punch.
00:36:13Showing a good chin.
00:36:14But that's not what you want to do.
00:36:16You want to get out of the way of that right hand.
00:36:17Here comes right down the middle.
00:36:19Right there, you see him.
00:36:20Lean on the jaw.
00:36:24Here comes, Houston.
00:36:26You get it out of your tongue.
00:36:29All right, nice and relaxed.
00:36:30Nice and relaxed.
00:36:32All right, breathe up.
00:36:33Breathe up.
00:36:34No rush.
00:36:35Breathe up.
00:36:36Breathe up.
00:36:36Come on.
00:36:37Breathe up.
00:36:39Breathe up.
00:36:41All right, Jay.
00:36:42Yeah.
00:36:43Game plan for you now.
00:36:45Push him back, yeah?
00:36:45Yeah.
00:36:46Back him up.
00:36:47Get your feet in.
00:36:47Don't leave your feet behind.
00:36:54Bryce's hands are just so much more powerful.
00:36:56He unloads with the big right hand.
00:36:57There's the right hand right down the middle.
00:36:59Just a beautiful punch.
00:37:00Showing a good chin was Hall, but that's not what you want to do.
00:37:04You want to get out of the way of that right hand.
00:37:05Here comes right down the middle.
00:37:07Right there, you see him.
00:37:08Lean on the jaw.
00:37:10Picture perfect right hand.
00:37:12Later in the round, he fires him with uppercuts in the hook.
00:37:14There's the hook in the throat.
00:37:15Double hook.
00:37:17First one being more effective than the second.
00:37:19Uppercut and a double hook back.
00:37:20Here we are halfway through this championship bout.
00:37:23It is uncharted territory.
00:37:26How do you see it unofficially at this point?
00:37:30Unofficially, I think that Bryce has been done enough to win every round.
00:37:34The possible exception was the third round.
00:37:36You could have given a hole, but it was so close.
00:37:38I still thought he'd get out working out.
00:37:40Landed with the power shots.
00:37:41So I have a shutout.
00:37:43And I don't think Hall's really in the fight for decision.
00:37:46He's got to stop Bryce or he can't win.
00:37:48And he's getting perilously close to that juncture in a fight where you almost need a knockout to win.
00:37:57And that's not his style.
00:37:58He only has two KOs in his nine victories.
00:38:01And right now, he'd have to win every round to be a draw.
00:38:04Unless he was going to do one round by two points or more.
00:38:07It doesn't appear that way.
00:38:08And this is not what Hall wants to do.
00:38:10Trade punches with a power hitter like Bryce.
00:38:13But he's doing it anyway.
00:38:16I'll tell you what, I think the stock, even if he should lose this fight, is going up right now.
00:38:22He's showing great durability, good conditioning, comes to fight.
00:38:26And I'll tell you what, it's a pleasure to watch.
00:38:28Very determined 25-year-old from London, England.
00:38:35Managed by Eugene Maloney and Frank Maloney, who manages Lennox Lewis.
00:38:43The former heavyweight champion.
00:38:46Good right hand by Hall that landed on the head.
00:38:54And he hurt Price.
00:38:55You can see just a little wobbling the legs there.
00:38:56He hurt him.
00:38:57Combination of fatigue and power.
00:38:59Good right hand.
00:39:00Momentarily rocked.
00:39:02The Welshman Bradley Price.
00:39:04Well, Price has displayed a very good chin in the past as well.
00:39:11He's walked into some punches in his ring history, but he's never been down.
00:39:19Under a minute remaining, round seven.
00:39:21We'll see what kind of condition these guys are really in.
00:39:27Or maybe make him move here.
00:39:29He's closing his round strong.
00:39:32Well, maybe he says, all right, I'll control the second half of the fight.
00:39:35I'm in better shape than Price.
00:39:36Price may have the power, but I got the legs.
00:39:40Well, right there, he threw a nice combination.
00:39:42Price went to counter, and he counted the counter.
00:39:44That's how you win this fight.
00:39:45And a good left hand there by Mr. Hall.
00:39:48Right on the jaw of Price.
00:39:50And that backed Price up.
00:39:52And a nice jab by Hall.
00:39:54And now you see that right uppercut starting from way outside,
00:39:56telegraphing it.
00:39:57That's a sign of fatigue.
00:39:58And now, wisely, Hall goes to the body.
00:40:06Went upstairs.
00:40:08Beautiful combination here by Hall.
00:40:10A left, right, left, right, and another follow-up right hand.
00:40:12Four or five punches ringing solid.
00:40:14Something fell out of a pocket.
00:40:16I think the referee lost his wallet.
00:40:19He's got it back.
00:40:20He lost his wallet.
00:40:21There's a first, folks, at least as far as we're concerned.
00:40:28Relax.
00:40:30Just relax.
00:40:31Let Mick do his job.
00:40:32Breathe out.
00:40:33Breathe out.
00:40:34Let's have nothing.
00:40:35You're not even out of breath.
00:40:36No, I feel good now.
00:40:36All right, listen.
00:40:37You want that?
00:40:37Listen.
00:40:38Listen to me, right?
00:40:39He's fucked.
00:40:40He's proper blowing.
00:40:41All right?
00:40:42While he's blowing, don't say no chances, though.
00:40:44Keep your body movement.
00:40:45Keep putting him under pressure with your body.
00:40:47But your right hand must come over the top.
00:40:49And when it does, step on it.
00:40:50All right?
00:40:51When it does, step on it.
00:40:52You must get the right hand thrown.
00:40:54Jason Hall starting to put it together.
00:40:56There's a body shot.
00:40:57Comes around.
00:40:58The right hand to the head.
00:40:59And left hand misses.
00:41:00And he comes back in with another counter.
00:41:01One, two.
00:41:01And again, another right hand.
00:41:04Most effective combination by far in the entire fight for Hall.
00:41:08Here's the body shot.
00:41:10Right hand.
00:41:11That was his best right hand.
00:41:13Another one, two.
00:41:14Misses.
00:41:14And yet another right hand.
00:41:16Countering.
00:41:16And countering the counter.
00:41:17He did it twice.
00:41:18He did it great.
00:41:19Most impressive round of the fight for Jason Hall was round seven.
00:41:24Can he follow it up here in round eight?
00:41:26Edwulf for 12.
00:41:29WBO Intercontinental Lightweight Belt.
00:41:31And I'll tell you what, in that exchange, Hall got the better of it.
00:41:35Hall coming on here in the second half of this fight.
00:41:40Can he sustain it?
00:41:41And there is redness under the right eye of Bradley Price now.
00:41:48Oh, beautiful left-right combination to the head by Hall.
00:41:51That was a nice combination.
00:41:52And he stood and looked at it.
00:41:53Even shot himself, I think.
00:41:54Well, he stopped Price dead in his tracks.
00:41:57Come on, come on.
00:41:58Price is much more tired now than Hall.
00:42:05And again, Hall scoring.
00:42:07Worked to the body that time, too.
00:42:09Went downstairs and came upstairs.
00:42:10Beautiful combination by Hall.
00:42:11One minute gone by in round eight.
00:42:19A terrific start to this round for Hall.
00:42:22Again, you can see the counters.
00:42:24Not the counters, but the leads from the outside by Price.
00:42:27Coming so flagrant, you can see them a mile away.
00:42:29The proverbial tide turning here in favor of the Englishman, Jason Hall.
00:42:35Signs of fatigue.
00:42:37No one said it better than Vince Lombardi.
00:42:39Fatigue means cowards of us all.
00:42:41And here you see possible evidence of just that.
00:42:48Price on wobbly legs now.
00:42:50He looks exhausted.
00:42:52And he switched back to South Point.
00:42:53It shows you might be a little bit desperate.
00:42:55Well done.
00:42:59Well, he may have somewhat of an upset in the making.
00:43:05Price and White is under.
00:43:06Oh!
00:43:07He's getting pummeled now as he turned away unwisely from Hall.
00:43:16Fatigue, here it is, Steve.
00:43:18It sets in.
00:43:19It will make cowards to any man.
00:43:20If you don't have the energy to do it, you just can't do it.
00:43:23Right now, he's tired.
00:43:24The condition of the year, huge.
00:43:26Neither has gone 12 rounds,
00:43:28and it's showing more
00:43:29in Bradley Price.
00:43:33He is really struggling now.
00:43:35Can he even make it through the eighth round
00:43:37on very rubbery legs?
00:43:39He's tired, Steven.
00:43:40This is not hurt.
00:43:41This is fatigue.
00:43:42He's starting to get some hurt going on him
00:43:43while he's tired.
00:43:47Jason Hall has been like an octopus.
00:43:49Left rights to the head of Price.
00:43:51And I'll give you the fact that Price has not gone down.
00:43:57As I said, he's not hurt so much as he is tired.
00:43:59He's exhausted.
00:44:00He wasted a lot of energy.
00:44:02And evidently did not harness enough to sustain himself.
00:44:05He disowned for us.
00:44:06An inexplicable cause of the action dearly hurt Bradley Price
00:44:14with a minute left in round eight.
00:44:17He just turned away from Jason Hall,
00:44:20which you don't do in this game.
00:44:23He survives the round, but what a tough one.
00:44:25You mean it, well, grit your fucking teeth and let him go.
00:44:51Otherwise, you pull that.
00:44:54This is your last round.
00:44:55This is what you're going to say.
00:44:56Do you understand?
00:44:58Fatigue's heading in as Price and the big bombs start to tire.
00:45:02You see he can't sustain himself.
00:45:03Turning away, I can't understand why he did that
00:45:05other than he was maybe dazed more than we thought.
00:45:11You see his arms are down, and here he just walks away.
00:45:14Absolutely no reason for it.
00:45:16And Hall's totally with his right to reach around
00:45:18and hit him in the face.
00:45:19Absolutely.
00:45:20Bradley Price has never been in this kind of dire situation.
00:45:25He now enters round nine, and he's coming out in extremely cautious fashion,
00:45:30backing up against Hall, who has been having his way the last few rounds.
00:45:34Well, what's going to happen here is pretty obvious.
00:45:37Price is going to take his shots.
00:45:39He's going to load up, looking for a couple of home run balls, and then he's going to get tired again.
00:45:45Does Price have what it takes to finish things out here?
00:45:50You need the second one, and he needs it pretty soon.
00:45:54Mason Hall won an eight-round decision in his last fight,
00:45:58but he's never been past eight until tonight.
00:46:03Price, as mentioned, was never past five,
00:46:05and conditioning obviously becoming a factor here.
00:46:11Price is going to have to reach down real deep
00:46:14to find if he's got any more gas in reserve.
00:46:19Well, what Hall needs to do right now
00:46:21is step forward two or three jabs with the right hand.
00:46:22He needs to use combinations,
00:46:24not necessarily big bombs,
00:46:26but quick, use the speed.
00:46:27His fatigue not only makes you carry,
00:46:29it makes you slow, and it makes you weak.
00:46:31That's a combination of the length of the fight,
00:46:37and these punches starting to get to Price,
00:46:40really wearing him a down.
00:46:46He was very confident, bordering on Cocky
00:46:49in our fighter meeting yesterday,
00:46:51talking about Price and the White,
00:46:53that he had to train 24 rounds.
00:46:58But you would know it.
00:46:59One of the mistakes here may be made by Jason Hall
00:47:01is that he's allowing Price to rest
00:47:04and to throw that one bomb when he needs to.
00:47:06He can't do that.
00:47:07He's got to force him to fight for three minutes,
00:47:09which he evidently can right now,
00:47:11and Price cannot.
00:47:12The point is,
00:47:13he's letting Price off the hook here.
00:47:19And he may be tired as well,
00:47:22and he just doesn't have what it takes
00:47:24to press the kind of attack
00:47:25he would like to in his mind.
00:47:33Oh, big white uppercut on the chin
00:47:35out of nowhere by Price.
00:47:36It was him.
00:47:37He wound it up.
00:47:37He telegraphed it.
00:47:38But again, when we're tired,
00:47:39everything happens to be a little different.
00:47:41And now it gives him some confidence,
00:47:43but his hands are really down low, Price,
00:47:45particularly the left.
00:47:47Let's see if Paul can take advantage.
00:47:50Under 30 seconds, round nine.
00:47:55A left hook to the jaw by Price that scored.
00:47:58All of a sudden,
00:48:03Price with some gas now.
00:48:06He's starting to hop around.
00:48:09Up on his toes.
00:48:10Jason Hall let him off the hook,
00:48:12and I don't know if he let him off the hook
00:48:13because you're looking for something,
00:48:15trying to load up or just higher.
00:48:20All of a sudden,
00:48:21towards the end of round nine,
00:48:22Price coming alive.
00:48:24No, you can win here, will you?
00:48:29You can win here.
00:48:30All the way.
00:48:30You want to win or don't you?
00:48:33All right.
00:48:33Well, get in and set up.
00:48:35All right, that's all right, buddy, Price.
00:48:35What's going on here?
00:48:37Huh?
00:48:38How can change from one to the other?
00:48:40You should have done it from the beginning.
00:48:41All right?
00:48:42All right, there.
00:48:43That's more like the Brandy Price.
00:48:44Come on.
00:48:45All right?
00:48:46Right hand.
00:48:46More right hand.
00:48:47More right hand.
00:48:48I want those right hand coming in more.
00:48:50Lazy shoe.
00:48:51I want those right hand more.
00:48:52Come here.
00:48:53Right.
00:48:53When the bell goes,
00:48:55walk over and hit him
00:48:55with the best right hand you've ever had.
00:48:57A big right hand.
00:48:59I want those right hand.
00:49:01That right uppercut
00:49:02that was so effective earlier in the fight,
00:49:03long looping right uppercut.
00:49:06I mean, that one from the south pole up.
00:49:08Right on the jaw.
00:49:10Jason Hall.
00:49:11Enzo Calzaghi told Bradley
00:49:13a price when the bell sounds,
00:49:16run in there and hit him with a right hand.
00:49:18Let's see if he does.
00:49:19He does not.
00:49:23No, but he's found some new energy.
00:49:25He's found a new attitude.
00:49:26Yes, he has.
00:49:26He has a different look in his eyes
00:49:27coming out this round than it was last round.
00:49:29He has a look of determination.
00:49:36Big left hand.
00:49:37Double up on the left did Bradley Price.
00:49:39He's holding back on the right.
00:49:45The instructions were to unleash
00:49:47the right hand at the bell.
00:49:49Instead, he went to the jab and the left hook.
00:49:53Believe it or not,
00:49:53the jab was probably a smarter move.
00:49:55At the corner may have seen something
00:49:59that I didn't see.
00:50:00As far as I can tell,
00:50:02he's been so effective with that jab.
00:50:03It won him the first four or five rounds
00:50:05almost by itself.
00:50:06Again, the head of Hall
00:50:07snapping back from the jab.
00:50:09Sets up the right hand,
00:50:10the uppercuts and the hook.
00:50:12Well, you get the feeling here
00:50:13that Bradley Price
00:50:14may make Jason Hall pay the price
00:50:17after he let him off the hook.
00:50:20I like that.
00:50:21Thanks.
00:50:21We've been waiting all night for that, folks.
00:50:25Only took ten rounds.
00:50:38Well, Reynolds house right by Price.
00:50:40That was a partial right overhand slap.
00:50:43That was not really a well-thrown punch,
00:50:45but it meant some bad intentions.
00:50:48Yeah, he had some mean intentions.
00:50:49But it wasn't fun.
00:50:50But it was reckless.
00:50:51That's the midway point of the ten.
00:50:57Price winding up with that uppercut.
00:50:59And that uppercut's a very dangerous punch,
00:51:01but to leave with it from out there
00:51:02is also dangerous.
00:51:04Paul is sharp enough
00:51:05to tie him on the wind with a hook.
00:51:07It could be a bad situation for Price.
00:51:09Well, this is certainly a different Bradley Price
00:51:18than in the 7th and 8th.
00:51:21Yeah, sure.
00:51:24Beginning of the night.
00:51:25Once again, he has enough strength
00:51:26because he is stronger and bigger puncher
00:51:28to keep Jason Hall at base
00:51:30while he has the energy.
00:51:31He doesn't have the energy.
00:51:32He walks through.
00:51:34Don't burn him!
00:51:34Don't burn him!
00:51:36Keep the thunder up!
00:51:37Don't burn him!
00:51:38Don't burn him!
00:51:38I hit the thunder up!
00:51:38Come back, come back.
00:51:40Come back.
00:51:46Hall eating a lot of jabs now.
00:51:53And Hall being frustrated by the quick, elusive Price,
00:51:56who nailed him with a right hand.
00:51:58Another right by Price to the head.
00:52:00Again, an off-bounds, almost sort of a slap,
00:52:02but effective because of boredom.
00:52:06Hall's defence a little suspect by itself.
00:52:14Hall chasing Price around, but to no avail.
00:52:18Again, that's the bell.
00:52:20A right-up with Terram, the apex of the chin by Price.
00:52:24You're letting it slip.
00:52:26Right, if you don't, you've got to go out and try and stop it.
00:52:28You've got to try and stop it there,
00:52:30because you're too far behind.
00:52:32Breathe out, breathe out.
00:52:33From the initiative, if you've lost it.
00:52:35Breathe out, breathe out.
00:52:36You never throw a punch that round.
00:52:37Don't you want to win this fight?
00:52:38I do.
00:52:39But why didn't you throw some punches?
00:52:40Right, Jay, listen.
00:52:41Two rounds to go, and you've got to win both rounds,
00:52:43and you've got to win them big.
00:52:44Right?
00:52:45You hear me?
00:52:46You've got to stop him.
00:52:47You've got to win them big.
00:52:48You've got to win them big.
00:52:49You've got to get your feet in behind your jab,
00:52:51and you've got to throw your right hand quicker.
00:52:53Your right hand's too slow, you didn't land well.
00:52:55Your look inside it all there.
00:52:56Step out.
00:52:57What's happened to your right hand?
00:52:58You ain't throwing it once now, right?
00:53:01Bryce has his energy back when he does.
00:53:04All pays.
00:53:05There's the right hand over the top of the hook.
00:53:06It was a much better combination there on the way out.
00:53:09Sort of a slap, but another punch to count.
00:53:12There's the right hand, there's the left hook again from the other angle.
00:53:15A little right hand on the way out.
00:53:16Take that with you.
00:53:17While he has his energy and his strength,
00:53:20they're much more effective of the punchers.
00:53:22Bobby and Bobby, his sense of urgency on the Jason Hall corner.
00:53:25They told Jason, you've got to go out there and stop him.
00:53:28I happen to agree with him.
00:53:29If he doesn't stop Bryce, he loses by decision.
00:53:31And Hall turning it up a notch.
00:53:34There have been no knockdowns thus far in the fight.
00:53:37Round 11.
00:53:38There are two fighters that have never been past eight rounds.
00:53:42One never past five.
00:53:43We are now in championship rounds,
00:53:45and they are fighting well.
00:53:49That has been some ebb and flow here.
00:53:53Bryce controlled the first half of the fight,
00:53:55then he started to waver as Hall came on,
00:53:59and then Bryce all of a sudden got resurrected in the tenth round.
00:54:05He got his second win.
00:54:07I talk about him eating it, and he got it just when he did.
00:54:10As if a bolt of lightning went through.
00:54:14And he just got all charged up.
00:54:22Good right hand by Price.
00:54:24And a left hook by Price right on the temple.
00:54:27And the blood are streaking down the face of Paul.
00:54:30I think above his left eye is cut,
00:54:32but that left hook was better than the right hand.
00:54:34It really rocked Paul.
00:54:36Paul bleeding profusely from the left eye.
00:54:44I can't see if it's top or bottom where it would be blurring his vision.
00:54:48It looks like it's all over the place.
00:54:50It seems to be...
00:54:52Oh!
00:54:53He spacked him as he was turning away,
00:54:54but once again...
00:54:56You're not supposed to turn away, number one.
00:54:58It's legal!
00:54:59Number two, he hit him in the face.
00:55:00He didn't hit him behind the head,
00:55:01so technically it's legal.
00:55:03Boy, things really picking up here in the 11.
00:55:11Paul going in to try and stop Bradley Price,
00:55:16which can leave him very, very open.
00:55:21And could get reckless.
00:55:23Because right now...
00:55:27He's got to win this by stoppage or knockout.
00:55:31And he is desperate.
00:55:33I'm not sure he has enough power.
00:55:35Combining the fact that...
00:55:37The key factor is stopped for Price.
00:55:39Two left hooks followed by body shots by Price.
00:55:42Another left hook to the neck by Price.
00:55:44A left-right combination.
00:55:46And he is all over Hall and what's keeping him up.
00:55:49I don't know because I really thought
00:55:51that he was going to hit the canvas.
00:55:53His legs were bending, his head was snapped,
00:55:55and he had a dead look in his eyes like that.
00:55:57Paul showing incredible heart.
00:55:59He is getting pummeled.
00:56:01Upstairs, downstairs, blood streaking down.
00:56:04The ref looking closely.
00:56:06What's Paul Thomas waiting for?
00:56:10Some of the punches aren't landing clean enough.
00:56:12I think the referee's giving Hall,
00:56:13who showed great heart and chin,
00:56:14for benefit of the doubt.
00:56:16Is he ever?
00:56:17What a flurry and a barrage by Price.
00:56:21And Hall survives...
00:56:24A disastrous 11th round.
00:56:26Jason.
00:56:27You've lost this point.
00:56:29No, take the gunfield out.
00:56:31Do you want to put him out?
00:56:32Oh.
00:56:33Never.
00:56:34Yeah, shut up.
00:56:35You ain't in charge here.
00:56:36Shut up.
00:56:37Let me have a look at the cut.
00:56:38Let me have a look at the cut.
00:56:39We're gonna let you go out.
00:56:40Babe, you start getting in trouble with throwing the tail off.
00:56:42Oh wait, it's not mine.
00:56:43No, Jason.
00:56:44Jason, you had been hitting with one shot.
00:56:45That's right.
00:56:46All right?
00:56:47I'm gonna concentrate.
00:56:48Shut your eyes.
00:56:49Shut your eyes.
00:56:50Shut your eyes.
00:56:51Come on.
00:56:52Come on.
00:56:53Come on.
00:56:54Come on.
00:56:55Come on.
00:56:56Come on, man.
00:56:57What are you doing?
00:56:58The recipe is fast.
00:56:59Come on, Jab.
00:57:00Eat me alive with Jab.
00:57:01Cut the right hand crossing.
00:57:02Three minutes.
00:57:03Three minutes.
00:57:04The right hand crossing.
00:57:05Get down the right hand crossing.
00:57:06All right?
00:57:07I've done that.
00:57:08You heard the hall, Carter.
00:57:09Tell Jason if you get in trouble one more time with throwing in the towel.
00:57:13You know what?
00:57:14There's something to be said for finishing on your feet.
00:57:16You know, and I really do appreciate fighters that have that kind of heart.
00:57:20They should let him finish on the street.
00:57:22All right.
00:57:23It's love-touching time.
00:57:24Round 12.
00:57:25All right.
00:57:27Today's job, Bradley Prices.
00:57:28Bradley Prices.
00:57:29Respecting Jason Hall.
00:57:30You can see it in his eyes.
00:57:35But can he finish Hall off after he just obliterated Jason in the last round?
00:57:45You can see it.
00:57:50I said it earlier and I say it again.
00:57:53Hall's stock will go up even in a loss here.
00:57:57I agree.
00:58:00Can't have too many fights like this.
00:58:02They'll take too much out of your body.
00:58:03Left-right combination to the head by Price
00:58:06and continues to score at will.
00:58:08Again, banging Hall across the head.
00:58:11A nice kind of right hand by Hall,
00:58:12but he doesn't have the power on it.
00:58:14The price, though.
00:58:15And that cut opens up again around the left eye of Hall.
00:58:19And he becomes a bloody mess.
00:58:23Again.
00:58:29No let-up in Price.
00:58:34You can see it as a look like,
00:58:35even when he's not smiling,
00:58:36even when he's getting hit,
00:58:37Price likes what he's doing.
00:58:39He likes this fight business.
00:58:41He's a brawler.
00:58:43He just had a pretty good right hand and left too, as well.
00:58:46Price doesn't want to get careless here.
00:58:50The last few rounds have been like a street fight.
00:58:53Price.
00:58:54Again, blood streaking,
00:59:00cascading down the left side of Hall's face.
00:59:09We approach the final minute of the final round.
00:59:11Come on, plug yourself, man.
00:59:20Hall ran to a right hand there by Price,
00:59:22but now you can see Price's fatigue factor setting back in once again.
00:59:27Taking a little zip on his punch and it's on South.
00:59:30Blood pouring off the face to the canvas from Jason Hall.
00:59:34Look how cut up the left side of Hall's face is.
00:59:48Yeah, that blood is really ugly and it's not in a good place.
00:59:51Somebody that's got to go into his eyes.
00:59:52A very gritty Jason Hall with unbelievable will and resolve.
01:00:03I've got to tell you, Stephen, you know me from being one of the boys.
01:00:06I tip my hat to that young man any day of the week.
01:00:08Well, he's gained the respect of a lot of folks here in Wales.
01:00:15As this one mercifully comes to an end for Jason Hall.
01:00:22Well, there's no question who won this fight, but the fans are saluting both guys and they're saluting the will and heart of Jason Hall.
01:00:39And you got to like the way this guy, Bradley Price, after struggling in some of the middle rounds,
01:00:45was able to reach back down in his tank and come back strong.
01:00:51In the hole for a minute there, for a brief time there in round 7, 8, 9,
01:00:55looked as if he might turn this around.
01:00:57And we saw in the corner of Price's, what do you want one more round, two more rounds?
01:01:01What do you do? When do you start fighting? You want to quit?
01:01:03And he went out there and he sucked it up. He got his second win.
01:01:05And that cut as we look at the monitors, very ugly.
01:01:09That is a nasty deep gash over the left eye of Jason Hall.
01:01:15It started to open up around round 6, so he had to deal with that for half the fight.
01:01:24And he's telling the people around him, hey, I feel fine.
01:01:30And he even manages a smile.
01:01:33That's a tough cookie.
01:01:34I'm as proud as a fucking punter guy.
01:01:37And Bradley Price, who couldn't fall away, but he's relatively unmarked.
01:01:44Yep.
01:01:45Just a little abrasion underneath the right eye, but nothing.
01:01:51Boy, they really hammered him in the corner.
01:01:55I think it was after round 6 when they thought he was blowing it.
01:01:58And then he showed his determination and guts and came back strong in the second half of
01:02:04the fight.
01:02:05But his team was all over him.
01:02:07Don't matter who won.
01:02:08And he needed, he needed a tongue lashing at that time.
01:02:11I think that was beneficial.
01:02:13I think that's what you need to have a little bit of what we call an inspirational speech.
01:02:17Yes.
01:02:17Putting it diplomatically.
01:02:25At the end of the 11th round, we see exactly what Jason Hall is made of.
01:02:29He's getting teed off on.
01:02:30Look at his head snapping back.
01:02:32He's bleeding.
01:02:32He's tired.
01:02:33There's an uppercut on the inside.
01:02:35And punches are raining down on him to the head there, to the body, again to the head.
01:02:39This is a young man who's got no quit whatsoever in him.
01:02:42And I tip my hat to him.
01:02:44If he could develop a little more power and a little better defense,
01:02:46he might be able to really make something of himself Sunday.
01:02:48Because he's got the heart and the will.
01:02:52Price could never put Paul down.
01:02:59So right now we are set for the decision.
01:03:03As we get it up to our ring announcer.
01:03:05Jimmy led it, Judy.
01:03:11Ladies and gentlemen, after 12 rounds of action, we have a unanimous decision.
01:03:17Here are the score totals.
01:03:19Judge at ringside Roy Francis scores about 116 to 113.
01:03:25Winford Jones sees it 115 to 113.
01:03:29And Judge Dave Paris scores about 114 to 113.
01:03:35All three in favor of the winner.
01:03:38He is now the WBO Intercontinental Lightweight Champion.
01:03:42And still undefeated, Bradley Sugar Sweet Price.
01:03:48So there you have it.
01:03:55No question about it.
01:03:57A unanimous decision.
01:03:59Greeted, as you might expect, quite favorably here in Wales.
01:04:04The Welshman Bradley Price remains undefeated.
01:04:06And he ups his record to 11-0.
01:04:10WBO and wins a belt, a marginal title called the WBO Intercontinental Lightweight Championship.
01:04:16We'll see if it serves as a springboard to the world stage for Bradley Price.
01:04:21Now a nice round of applause for Jason Hall, who showed tremendous grit and heart.
01:04:26And he's being saluted now by this crowd of about 3,500, 4,000 here at the Cardiff International Arena.
01:04:35So coming up next, our main event undefeated WBO Super Middleweight Champion, Joe Calzaghe, set to make his eighth title defense against unbeaten number one contender, Mario Fite.
01:04:51Both with final preparations for the Welshman Calzaghe, his first fight in Cardiff since June 99, says his hand and elbow problems are completely behind him, looking to build on his last two impressive efforts.
01:05:05Feels that fight won't be able to handle his speed and power, so he'll get inside fights long range, fights 6-3, 6-4, and he'll knock fight out.
01:05:14Well, the tiny country of Wales is renowned the world over for its breathtaking scenery nestled in its rugged mountain ranges and rolling up land pastures.
01:05:26How about those ancient castles that give us a hint of this nation's violent and romantic past?
01:05:31Yes, this is a locale that provides a truly majestic setting for tonight's WBO Super Middleweight Championship.
01:05:38Coming up next, from the Cardiff International Arena, our main event, hometown product Joe Calzaghe defends his WBO Super Middleweight title against the number one contender, Mario Fite of Germany, in a matchup of undefeated.
01:05:56All right, let's get some local perspective from our British boxing correspondent here, Colin Hart.
01:06:02And, Colin, do you think there's more pressure on Joe Calzaghe, given the set of circumstances recently with British fighters Lennox Lewis and Nassim Hamed losing?
01:06:13Unquestionably, Steve. There was a tremendous amount of pressure on him tonight.
01:06:16We've had a dreadful month. British boxing has suffered two terrible blows.
01:06:21And as Oscar Wilde would have put it, to lose one title is unfortunate. To lose two is downright carelessness.
01:06:28Where does Prince Nassim Hamed stand today in the eyes of the British?
01:06:31Well, a lot of us knew that Hamed didn't have the basic skills that was needed.
01:06:36He's a tremendous puncher. But Barrera really found him out a few weeks ago.
01:06:42What's the talk on this side of the Atlantic with regard to a possible fight between the new heavyweight champ,
01:06:48Hassim Rahman, and the former heavyweight champ, Mike Tyson, keeping in mind, of course, that this network showtime has a major stake in Mr. Tyson?
01:06:56Well, I think that the British fight fans would love to see Tyson and Rahman before Rahman and Lewis,
01:07:03because Tyson is exciting. And Lewis, quite honestly, is not a very exciting fighter.
01:07:09Tyson transcends boxing. People who've never seen a fight in their lives are captivated whenever Mike Tyson steps through the ropes.
01:07:17All right, Colin, as usual, thank you so much for joining us.
01:07:19Pleasure, Steve.
01:07:20And the spotlight, of course, tonight falls on Joe Calzaghi, who is hoping to remain one of only two world champions from Great Britain.
01:07:28The other, of course, is Johnny Nelson.
01:07:30With a record of 30-0, including 25 KOs, Joe Calzaghi is a power hitter with major league credentials.
01:07:36While he's failed to impress in some defenses, he's shown in others.
01:07:39Most recently stopping Omar Shika and Richie Woodall.
01:07:42Still, the Southpaw is hunting for larger game, like Roy Jones Jr.
01:07:47Let's take a closer look at the fighter that Hall of Fame manager Mickey Duff once described as, quote-unquote,
01:07:52the most talented youngster I've had.
01:08:00In its short 17-year history, the super middleweight division has been ruled by the denizens of the British Isles.
01:08:07There was the fierce Nigel Benz, the enigmatic Chris Eubank, and now comes perhaps the best 168-pounder today, Welshman Joe Calzaghi.
01:08:21With his 30-0 record, aggressive, crowd-pleasing style, and impressive power, this WBO champion is one of Britain's most popular fighters.
01:08:29The Welsh people, you know, they love the winners. They love sport or rugby, boxing.
01:08:35Everyone comes up the street and says, you're doing Wales Proud, you know, and that makes me feel good.
01:08:39And, you know, seeing little kids and giving them autographs, and like I said, I've got my own children.
01:08:43You know, and to put a smile on somebody's face, you know, it's really good that I'm in that position, that I can do that.
01:08:49But with a lack of name opponents in the now surprisingly weak super middleweight division,
01:08:54Calzaghi has yet to achieve the worldwide fame he believes he deserves.
01:09:00Yeah, it's quite frustrating, but basically, as long as I'm still a world champion, I know it will come.
01:09:05I feel my peak in my condition. I'm 29 years old now, so, you know, I feel my pride.
01:09:11And basically, I feel right to take anybody, you know, who decides to challenge me.
01:09:14As a way to enter the ranks of boxing's most elite fighters, Calzaghi has been clamoring for a bout with perhaps the best pound-for-pound fighter today,
01:09:24light heavyweight champion, Roy Jones Jr.
01:09:27With Roy Jones, I think there's a long queue of people who like to fight Roy Jones.
01:09:30Obviously, he's big money.
01:09:32But the thing is, with me, I honestly believe I can beat Roy Jones, you know.
01:09:36And Roy Jones is getting paid a lot of money for picking his own opponents.
01:09:39You know, all he's doing is fighting sparring partners.
01:09:41You know, with me, I'm a champion of my own right, and I honestly believe I can beat Roy Jones.
01:09:47Until this fight can be arranged, Calzaghi must patiently continue to meet and beat a collection of little-known mandatories.
01:09:56And tonight, he faces the number one contender, the tall, undefeated German Mario Fight.
01:10:03I'm not going to fall in the same trap as Lennox Lewis did, basically because, you know, I prepare for every opponent,
01:10:08and I'm aware that it can happen to anybody, a shock.
01:10:12That's boxing, but, you know, I won't fall in the same trap.
01:10:15I prepared for 10 weeks for this fight, and like I said, I'm 100%.
01:10:18I'm 100%.
01:10:19I'm 100%.
01:10:19I'm 100%.
01:10:19I'm 100%.
