00:00You
00:06That's beautiful. That's how I know it's ready. You cannot be serious. I've been having bad stomach aches when it hurts like down here
00:14It's going to stay in your body forever. You're not ever going to be able to digest it. I don't just poop it out like cold. No
00:22This is our warehousing area. These are all boxes ready to ship out. I feel like the cardboard king
00:29Do it thick how it tastes to a person?
00:33Charlotte and the kids have a bond that words really can't describe. There's cognitive benefits behavioral
00:41Nutritional do you have ideas about when you would like to stop at this point? No, I don't care about the opinions of others
00:59I'm really into arts and crafts basically anything our balls around me using hot glue I
01:21Really love the scent of hot glue. It feels like it smells very warm to me. It smells homely
01:26And I do also like the texture of it
01:40It's like where some people they eat gum, but for me, it's the hot glue
01:46Craft and snack
01:49Get to have a treat while I'm working
01:51My name is Jayden. I'm a college student. I live in Antioch, Illinois, and I'm addicted to eating hot glue sticks
01:59I have
02:01My compartment for glue sticks, which is very convenient
02:05I eat hot glue sticks every single day
02:07I eat it between meals as a snack when I want something to chew on
02:11I'll sometimes go with a fresh pack if I'm like feeling like I deserve a reward or something to me
02:15They taste different if they're fresh or old
02:18I feel stimulated. I like the moving of my mouth and I just feel satisfied
02:23I like the peace it gives me
02:26I'll chew it until it's soft and malleable enough and then from there
02:29I like to fully swallow it. It feels like a waste if I'm not finishing it whole
02:34This is a really good brand
02:37I feel like I was going to burp
02:39Okay
02:51My hot glue addiction actually started when I was three years old
02:55I started with eating plastics like bottle caps tupperware lids packaging on toys
03:02My mom thought it was like you know when you're younger you just chew on stuff
03:05But then as I got older I got into arts and crafts and I just really just got stuck on hot glue
03:16So you usually like do a few like light taps to see it. Okay, yeah, it's coming out. That's beautiful. That's what I look for
03:22That's how I know it's ready. I'll just it's like make a line
03:27Go back
03:28We got another one. You know, this isn't the worst thing you could be making a line of
03:33And then I like try to get it tacky with my hands by doing light taps
03:40Most people this would be really hot, but I'm used to it by now
03:43Oh, it's getting to a good consistency. I like
03:46And so I'll start scooping some you know like scraping it up
03:50It's a nice consistency and then from there. I just eat it
03:57Everyone has their weird things they do and eating hot glue is just mine
04:01Sometimes I like to get a little creative with it. I feel like those rope-shaped candies
04:08I don't get stomach aches too often thankfully even though. I'm like really constipated
04:12But no one has really told me hey, that's weird or you need to stop
04:17Then I could just eat it
04:19It's a little hard sometimes that
04:22But you get it. You get it sometimes
04:24My hot glue eating addiction isn't really a secret. It's just if someone asks I would tell them but if someone doesn't ask I wouldn't tell them
04:41Oh
04:46Hi guys
04:48Hey Jaden
04:49What are you guys studying and thank you for the drink?
04:51Yeah, no problem
04:53Problem solving and condition
04:55I'm doing business law
04:57Both of those sound really hard and I'm glad I'm not doing that
05:02You guys know if there's any outlets around here because I know you guys come here more than me. Oh, yeah, there's one right there
05:05My sister knows my mom knows my dad knows everyone who would like see me on a daily basis and watch me eat it
05:13They know but other people not so much
05:28Studying for college exams can be very stressful and you just need something to take the edge off a little bit
05:35What um what what is that for?
05:44You know people chew gum to like keep themselves stimulated or
05:49You're gonna chew on the hot glue?
05:51Well now it's hot hot but
05:54Are you pranking us or?
05:57Oh, okay
05:59You cannot be serious
06:05My name is Terry. I am 39 years old
06:23I live in mr. Tennessee
06:25And i'm addicted to eating cardboard
06:48I
06:50My addiction started when I was six years old.
06:58I picked some cardboard up and put it in my mouth, and it tasted great, and I just kept
07:02doing it ever since then.
07:04In the morning, I start getting my butter ready for my eggs, and my special ingredient,
07:15and give it a silver flavor, and cardboard, and sprinkling some.
07:23I usually try to make my breath so while people still sleep so they won't see me with my cardboard.
07:30I live with my mom, and my family don't know I'm addicted to eating cardboard.
07:36I hide my addiction because I feel like nobody will accept me.
07:45Mmm.
07:51This is my space out here.
07:52I can come out and enjoy my cardboard and the eggs.
07:56Mmm.
07:57I do a lot of unique things with cardboard.
08:00This is a piece of cardboard.
08:02I've had about three days.
08:06I keep it in my closet for safekeeping.
08:09I have to wash it and dry it if it's dusty and wet them.
08:14Just like that.
08:16It softens it up.
08:17Then when it dries, it be like a crackling taste.
08:21It's like the cardboard is getting power.
08:26I thought about quitting a couple of times, but then I couldn't do anything.
08:33I didn't have no power.
08:38I compare eating cardboard to a spiritual awakening.
08:42What kind of spiritual awakening?
08:45of being cardboard king.
08:51The man who controls all the cardboard in the universe.
08:54I just keep my pizza that I've been working on in the car because I don't want to have it in the house.
09:10My mom or someone would come and throw it away.
09:15I'd be very upset.
09:21Cardboard tastes like nothing else.
09:24It's very delicious.
09:26There's many different types of cardboard, but my favorite type of cardboard is just a regular brown box.
09:33Even though this cardboard has a lot of print on it, I stay to the open side of the cardboard.
09:41Even though I have to hide from my friends and family, cardboard never had any type of negative effect on my life.
09:48I'm perfectly healthy.
09:50I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm strong.
09:52I just eat cardboard because it soothes me.
09:54It comes to me now and I'm never going to stop eating it.
10:03My daughter Rayseanna is seven and my son Malachi is four.
10:07Can I ask you, mom, would you please?
10:09Yes.
10:10Yes.
10:11That seems a bit strange.
10:13It's something that I do not see every day.
10:15I'm having like pooping issues, but that's like the only issue.
10:18I can't imagine why you're not meant to eat plastic.
10:21And when you ingest them, bad things happen.
10:36I want a master.
10:40My name is Charlotte.
10:41I live in Flomath, Oregon, and I have two children.
10:44My daughter Rayseanna is seven and my son Malachi is four.
10:49I make sure to give them love, compassion, caring.
10:54And that's what every mom brings to their family.
10:57Can I ask you, mom, would you please?
11:00Yes.
11:01Yes.
11:02And I'm addicted to breastfeeding.
11:07Typically, you see a mother breastfeeding a baby, you know, an infant.
11:17But, oh, that child is quite a bit older.
11:21It seems a bit strange.
11:23It's something that I do not see every day.
11:26A typical reaction of my children's age might just be a double take, because it's not common to see a child in that position that is as big as my kids are.
11:41But if we're out and about, and my kids are asking for a mama milk, I do try to accommodate in the moment.
11:46Some people may not appreciate what I'm doing and say, wow, they're too old for that, or you're going to turn your children into a serial killer or something just absurd.
11:59But I don't care about the opinions of others.
12:02It's okay.
12:03They just don't know what they don't know.
12:04You can add some milk.
12:05That's right.
12:06That's right, Rob.
12:07It's being pretty.
12:08I'm going to slow.
12:11Currently, my kids breastfeed a couple times a day, but also I have pumped extra breast milk.
12:30This is milk from probably a year and a half, two years old now.
12:35And I'm really excited to have this, because it is liquid gold to me.
12:39I kept breastfeeding when I learned about the benefits of it.
12:49The hormone oxytocin is released, and that's the love hormone, and that just floods your body, and it floods your brain, and it is a euphoric feeling.
12:57But also, it helps the health of my children immensely.
13:01There's cognitive benefits.
13:03There's emotional, behavioral, nutritional.
13:07The list goes on.
13:13I also use it when the children might have ear infections, if there's a fever.
13:17That's amazing.
13:18I mean, they call it liquid gold for a reason.
13:21I'm sorry.
13:22I got passionate.
13:23You want some milk on your boo-boo?
13:25Yeah.
13:26Okay.
13:31I hope it feels better.
13:33I usually have some extra milk that I had expressed or pumped that I could add to their eggs or a smoothie, and they wouldn't know what's in there.
13:40I've offered to put breast milk in my husband's food, and he is not interested in that, and I 100% respect it.
13:49However, just a little bit goes a long way.
13:52I believe that breast milk is superior to other foods, and it's just perfect.
13:57When we print it out, sometimes the black comes through, so you've got to make it like that.
14:04And then you want the blue and the C.
14:07So I'm really blessed.
14:08My husband, he's been really supportive.
14:10Knowing breastfeeding is something that I feel passionate about, and I, as a mother, can say that this is my motherly intuition.
14:18Got a kiss?
14:20I do think that Charlotte is closer to the kids.
14:24They have a bond that has come from this breastfeeding that words really can't describe.
14:32I didn't know that it was going to go on this long, and so I like to think that I'm not very selfish, but there are times where I'm human.
14:42I want my time with my wife, and sometimes that has been affected by breastfeeding.
14:49We just try and juggle everything as we can.
14:54There have been moments where we've had some heated discussions around it, because it does take time away, and it's against cultural norms.
15:02It would be silly for me to say it isn't, but, goodness gracious, this is the best that we could give our babies.
15:09How far would you go? Is there a cut off of you?
15:11The longer you breastfeed, the benefits increase, so as long as they're still willing, then we'll keep going.
15:19I do worry because I'm getting older.
15:23You know, my milk supply is lessening, but I'll seek out the help that I need to help support me through that, because for right now, there's nothing that would stop me from continuing to breastfeed my kids.
15:33Are you pranking us, or...?
15:34Oh, okay.
15:35You cannot be serious.
15:36You cannot be serious.
15:37And it's just like gum.
15:38Jayden, is this really glue?
15:52What else is it?
15:53Is it like sugar?
15:54No.
15:55Just like gum.
15:59Jaden, is this really glue?
16:04Is it like sugar?
16:05No.
16:07In my opinion, everyone has their own weird traits.
16:09There are people who are doing far worse things
16:11like doing drugs.
16:12I only eat hot glue
16:13and I think that's pretty safe in comparison.
16:16Now if you guys want to try it, I'm not going to try it.
16:18I would not like to partake.
16:21Obviously hot glue is not something
16:23that you're supposed to be eating.
16:24I mean, I just, I've never seen her do it
16:28and I mean, it's ridiculous.
16:34Oh, don't give me that lip.
16:36You're not meant to eat plastic.
16:38You're not meant to eat microplastics.
16:40They're not meant to be in your body
16:41and when you ingest them, bad things happen.
16:44Oh, this would be glorious.
16:46All right, hang on, let me rip that up.
16:48Wait, someone scared?
16:49It's disgusting.
16:50Oh, whatever.
16:51You guys seem a little judgy.
16:53Really?
16:54You don't think eating that stick of glue is bad for you?
16:59I'm having, like, pooping issues, but, like, constipation-wide.
17:02But that's, like, the only issue.
17:03I can't imagine why.
17:05I don't see eating hot glue as a problem, but I'm very constipated.
17:12I have been since freshman year of high school.
17:16The longest I went without having a bowel movement was over two weeks.
17:20I tried a lot of laxatives and it eventually all came out, so that's good.
17:28Have you, like, told anybody about this or, like, your family?
17:32My mom knows, my sister knows.
17:33They see me, I'm healthy, I'm fine, so they don't really think it's an issue.
17:37Only person who doesn't really know is my grandma.
17:40Your grandma lives with you, right?
17:41Yeah, she just officially moved in with us, like, two weeks ago.
17:45And you don't think she's going to find out?
17:47Um, not if I'm sneaky enough.
17:51I think she deserves to know.
17:53I just don't see how that could help her in any way.
17:55That would only cause her to be worried.
17:58I just don't see what good that would do.
18:03If I told my grandma about my hot glue eating habits,
18:05I do think she'd be very concerned.
18:07And it just seems useless for her to have something to worry about.
18:11Like, why tell her if I'm not going to do anything about it?
18:16This piece of equipment here is our rotary dot cutters.
18:21This is a big process.
18:22Yes, it is.
18:23When I see this with cardboard, it makes me want to taste it.
18:32You don't swallow it, do you?
18:34I do swallow it.
18:35I cannot believe this.
18:36So today I'm going to the packaging store to check out some new boxes to see which ones
18:54I like best.
18:57Usually I can find boxes for free, but sometimes I like to buy new ones.
19:01Hey, Terry.
19:02Hello, I'm Miss Tiffany.
19:03How are you?
19:04All right.
19:05Nice to meet you.
19:06Welcome to New Tech.
19:07So Terry, what are you looking for boxes for?
19:10For my construction business.
19:12We need boxes.
19:13Well, that's great.
19:14Well, you've definitely come to the right place then.
19:16I like these right here.
19:17Yeah?
19:18Are you ready to take a tour?
19:19Yes.
19:20All right, great.
19:21Let's go.
19:22Well, today I just wanted to show Terry how boxes are made, show them around our facility,
19:31and see if he had any questions about the processes.
19:35So this is our warehousing area, so these are all boxes that are ready to ship out to
19:41our customers.
19:42When I see this with cardboard, it makes me want to taste it.
19:47So this piece of equipment here is our rotary die.
19:52This is a big process.
19:53Yes, it is.
19:54What do y'all do with the scraps?
19:56We just bale them and recycle them.
19:58Can I get a piece?
19:59Sure, yeah.
20:00What's the cardboard made of?
20:05Paper.
20:06It's just a thick paper.
20:08Do it thick how it tastes to a person?
20:12It all seemed perfectly normal until he asked how the boxes tasted.
20:19I don't think.
20:21But I don't know.
20:23It definitely took me by surprise.
20:25A kind of red flag.
20:27Obviously, I've never tried it, so I don't know how it tastes.
20:30It's okay for me to walk around and have a little tour of my 7C, the type of boxes I
20:35would like to take from me.
20:36Absolutely.
20:38All right, no problem.
20:39It was my go-to when I was around 6, 7.
20:46I started eating these, and they're the best of me.
20:49It's too dusty right there.
20:52I don't like these boxes because too much dust, and it doesn't make it taste very, very strange.
20:57When I saw Terry eat the boxes, it was a bit strange and a little troubling.
21:10There's chemicals in the processes to make the boxes, not to mention when you ship it, like, what sort of environmental factors could be contaminating it.
21:20Hey, Terry, did you find anything you liked?
21:22Yes, ma'am.
21:23Go ahead.
21:24I have never eaten cardboard before, but I do eat gluten-free bread, and I think that really
21:30might be a good alternative for him.
21:32Here's my business card so you can reach out and let me know how you want to move forward
21:36with more boxes.
21:37Thank you so much.
21:38I feel complete because I'm around the things that I love to do.
21:59What do you need me to do?
22:00Do you need some help with something over here or whatever?
22:02I'm good for now.
22:04Try to get something started for dinner.
22:07I've had a few close calls with my grandma in my hot glue eating addiction, and I made
22:12a purpose not to tell her because she's very protective of me.
22:15She always prays for me at night, which I appreciate.
22:18Hey, guys.
22:19I was just talking about you.
22:21How are you?
22:22Give me a hug.
22:23I'm good.
22:24How about you?
22:25I'm good, sweetheart.
22:26Ooh.
22:27Trying to fix something to eat, girl, okay?
22:29Ooh.
22:30Hey, baby.
22:31Hope y'all made enough.
22:32I love my grandma, but now that my grandma is living with us, it is harder to hide my hot glue
22:36eating addiction habits.
22:37So I'm just scared that she just might think there's something wrong wrong with me versus
22:41just a fun little thing I do.
22:43You all right?
22:45I guess there's something I should tell you, both of you.
22:55I don't really want to tell you, but I did talk to my friends, and they've convinced me.
23:00I've been having bad stomach aches recently.
23:05Where does it hurt?
23:06Where does it hurt?
23:07Where does it hurt?
23:08It's like down here.
23:09You know, the average constipation area.
23:15You guys already look a little scared.
23:17Are you guys scared?
23:19Something that is going on that might be related.
23:23I am addicted to eating hot glue sticks.
23:26Girl, bye!
23:27Are you really?
23:28Are you really serious?
23:29I cannot believe this.
23:30How long you been doing this?
23:31Really?
23:32I don't know, since about 13.
23:47I never would have thought in a million years that Jayden would be chewing on glue sticks.
23:54Or that even it can be an addiction.
23:57And for her to say she's been doing it since 13, shocking.
24:03Is it because some anxiety or something?
24:08Do you feel good after you eat it?
24:09Right.
24:10Or chew it?
24:11For me, it's more like, you know.
24:13A snack?
24:14Yeah.
24:15Oh my god.
24:16It's unbelievable.
24:17I'm so, okay.
24:18Yup.
24:19And then you put it in your mouth and you just chew it.
24:22Yup.
24:23Oh.
24:31You don't swallow it, do you?
24:33I do swallow it.
24:34You don't.
24:35I do swallow it.
24:36Shut up.
24:37Girl, that's why you have problems with your bowels.
24:39Seriously.
24:40That could be it.
24:41That's why.
24:42Could be.
24:43That could be it.
24:44My grandma are concerned that the hot glue eating addiction is correlated to my constipation
24:49and bowel issues.
24:50But that's not too serious.
24:52Everyone's constipated sometimes.
24:53So I'm not too worried.
24:54Oh, wow.
24:55Unbelievable.
24:56Did your mom know?
24:57My mom does know.
24:58But I was just scared to tell you guys because I didn't want you guys to like, you know,
25:03just get too scared or maybe go to a doctor for this or...
25:05Well, you're still going to the doctor.
25:06Well, we'll see.
25:07I don't really think I have to go to the doctor for this.
25:09I'm in a little pain.
25:10I'm in a little pain.
25:11But you've been doing this since you was 13.
25:12Yeah, exactly.
25:13I've been doing this since 13.
25:14You're 20 now.
25:15And I'm still here.
25:16I don't mean that.
25:17I'm still in shape.
25:18It may affect you later on, Jayden.
25:19If I'm going to the doctor, you're going to have to make me.
25:20I don't want to believe I'm making a 20-year-old do something, but we're going.
25:34My grandma's really concerned.
25:37She's making me see a doctor.
25:39She wants me to stop, but I just don't see the point of stopping.
25:43I look healthy.
25:44I feel healthy.
25:45And I don't care what the doctor says.
25:46I don't plan on quitting eating hot glue.
25:48Stop sticking that in your mouth.
25:51Are you going to confiscate the glue gun from me, too, now?
25:54We're going to wrap this up.
26:00Culturally, we are not all that used to seeing people breastfeeding toddlers and beyond.
26:07Breastfeeding is definitely about an attachment, and that can be hard to break.
26:12You think that's potato chips or something?
26:15What is this doing to your body?
26:17It's not hurting me.
26:18This is not OK.
26:19Look, this is why.
26:20You need some help.
26:21See, that's why we didn't work out.
26:22That's why we didn't work out.
26:23This is a breast milk jewelry making kit.
26:29I'm going to make a necklace with my breast milk.
26:30A keepsake for many years to come.
26:34I was not breastfed as a child.
26:35I was formula fed.
26:36My mom had me later in life, but she struggled to breastfeed, like struggled big time.
26:41This is my breast milk.
26:42This is my breast milk.
26:43So I kind of feel like I'm doing something that she wished she could have done.
26:44So it's kind of, in a way, keeping her legacy going.
26:48It's a privilege, I think, to be able to have breastfed this long, because a lot of moms
26:55wish they could and they couldn't.
26:56And I am very proud of my body and the fact that God allowed me to continue as long as
27:21I have.
27:22I know that I have to be very diligent about taking my vitamins.
27:25taking my vitamins and making sure I'm eating protein.
27:28So I came to make sure that the milk
27:30is gonna be pure and perfect.
27:31And that's hard, but we do hard things.
27:35See how it turned out?
27:37It's so pretty.
27:39It's a real special thing to have a living piece of jewelry.
27:43If I was told that I had to stop breastfeeding,
27:46oh man, that would be a hard pill to swallow.
27:51I do worry about being able to keep up my milk supply.
27:54And today I'm meeting with a lactation consultant
27:56to make sure I'm doing everything I can to keep myself going
27:59so I can continue to produce that liquid gold for my kids.
28:04Welcome in.
28:07Okay, tell me about your breastfeeding relationship
28:11with your kids.
28:13Well, we are still breastfeeding.
28:15We've been going strong now, gosh, nearly seven years total.
28:19I've always been wanting to make sure I'm up on my iron
28:23and my ferritin levels, make sure that all those levels are good.
28:26My dream was to be able to sustain my own desire to breastfeed
28:32until they were ready to stop or look into other ways
28:36to supplement myself.
28:38Breastfeeding really is taxing both emotionally and physically,
28:42especially when you have an older child.
28:44I know culturally we are not all that used to seeing people
28:48breastfeeding toddlers and beyond.
28:52It's not the norm to see somebody feeding an older child
28:57or a toddler even, but breastfeeding is definitely about an attachment
29:01and a connection with parent and child, and that can be hard to break.
29:06Do you feel like you and your husband are on the same page with it?
29:09Yeah, that ebbs and flows sometimes, but right now, absolutely,
29:13and it's been this way for a while.
29:14Okay.
29:15Do you have plans when you would like to stop,
29:17or is there a stopping point that you have envisioned?
29:21At this point, no.
29:23I don't think there's any harm in maybe nursing
29:26an eight-year-old or a nine-year-old.
29:28I don't think anybody wants to imagine their children
29:33breastfeeding into adulthood.
29:37So at some point, we know as parents there must be a stopping place,
29:43and for children who don't want to stop breastfeeding,
29:46they may just know this one way to soothe themselves,
29:49and having more tools in order to cope
29:51makes for a more healthy individual as they grow up.
29:55And what if it extended into, I mean, double digits?
30:00Do you have any, I mean, is there any point
30:02at which you feel like it is to hold?
30:07I'll reassess as things happen, but I love that I can,
30:10I don't have to make a decision now.
30:11We can just see how it goes.
30:14I don't have to have a hard stop.
30:16The body does need energy, as well as extra calories in the day
30:19to be able to make the milk and still keep you healthy.
30:23So continue to keep track on your own health
30:27and your own self-care to make sure that your body
30:30is getting what it needs so that it can provide for the others.
30:34My dream is to let my kids wean on their own when they're ready.
30:38I do know that that time is coming,
30:41but as far as I am now, I don't have a plan to stop.
30:45Can I please have mama milky a bit?
30:51Okay.
30:53Okay.
30:53When I come to the training house, I usually cut the grass, I trim the sidewalk, any things
31:22you need done, I'm there.
31:25The only person who knows about me eating cardboard is my son's mom.
31:30We was talking one day, and I just stuck a piece of cardboard in my mouth, not thinking.
31:35And she was like, what you doing?
31:40Then she found my whole mustache, and she threw away the ones that I had in my car.
31:49And Trina knows I eat cardboard when I'm at the house working.
31:52It's less crisp for me, because I don't have to hide as much.
31:57Oh, it's looking nice out here.
32:00I have some things for you to do in the house as well, when you get done out here.
32:04It seems like you're almost done.
32:06Yeah.
32:07I need you to mount Terry's TV in his room on a wall.
32:11OK, OK.
32:12You think that's potato chips or something?
32:19Like, that's not food.
32:21It is for me.
32:25So you got one, two, three.
32:29This is not OK.
32:30Look, this is why.
32:31You need some help.
32:32Trina, that's why I need help.
32:33See, that's why we didn't work out.
32:36I know Terry to be sneaky, but I'm concerned what it does to his body.
32:40How it affects his health.
32:42How can it be corrected?
32:44How soon can it be corrected?
32:46What is this doing to your body?
32:49It's not hurting me.
32:50It makes me physically stronger.
32:52This is not protein.
32:54It got to be.
32:55It's not bad for me.
32:56I'm perfectly fine.
32:56I'm hectic.
32:58No, that's why you'd be constipated.
33:00Oh, Trina, being addicted to eating cardboard
33:06has infected my relationships.
33:08At one time, my girlfriend think I'm out with another woman,
33:12but I'm just in the park chilling eating cardboard.
33:16Who all knows about that?
33:18Your mom know?
33:20I don't want to tell nobody.
33:21Well, you need to tell everybody,
33:23because we all need to get you some help,
33:25because this is not right.
33:26Trina, I don't want to tell nobody.
33:27We all love you.
33:29We care about you, and we're here to support you.
33:32And if you do not tell your mother, I'm going to tell her.
33:40I don't really want to tell nobody
33:41that I'm just eating cardboard, because I'm afraid
33:45they're going to feel embarrassed about me.
33:47But Trina's starting to tell my family.
33:50I'm going to tell them before she does,
33:51because she's going to blow out all out of proportion.
33:55I'm going to tell them.
33:57You better hurry up and tell her.
33:59I'm a little no.
34:00OK.
34:00Don't eat no more of this stuff while you over here.
34:03All this is going in the garbage.
34:07I've been wanting to tell you this for years.
34:09I'm addicted to eating cardboard.
34:11What?
34:12It was shocking.
34:14Jaden, what brings you in today?
34:15I have a hot glue eating addiction.
34:17Plastic is going to stay in your body forever.
34:19You're not ever going to be able to digest it.
34:23I'm tired of carrying around this secret, so I am going to tell my mom that I'm addicted
34:27to eating cardboard, because I'm ready to get it off my chest.
34:30You know what you like?
34:31Well, they ain't got what I like.
34:32Pinto beans, hot bone, ton of green beans, all yams and all that kind of stuff.
34:37Soul food.
34:38I'm worried a little bit how my mom will feel, but I'll face the judgment.
34:45I have to tell you something.
34:47What, you been getting married?
34:48No.
34:50I've been wanting to tell you for hours.
34:52I've been wanting to tell you for a long time.
34:55I can't get married.
34:56I've been wanting to tell you for a long while.
35:01I've been wanting to tell you for a long time, but you can't get married?
35:09No.
35:14you for this for years. But I haven't, I couldn't get the courage to tell you. I'm addicted
35:27to eating cardboard. Addictive. Doing what? What'd you say? I'm addicted to eating cardboard.
35:40When you start all this? I started around when I was six years old. I seen a piece of cardboard.
35:48I picked it up and stick it in my mouth and it was good to me and it became a habit.
35:52I did not know that he was addicted to eating cardboard. It was shocking.
36:04I can cook eggs with it. I can make a piece of color with it. I can put it on pizza.
36:11Wait a minute. There's a lot of things I can do with it. But it has a good flavor.
36:16Flavor? What kind of flavor? You said flavor? It's a flavor I can't describe.
36:20That's why you didn't tell anybody. I was embarrassed of what somebody might say to me.
36:28I raised him up with love and understanding and I don't know. I guess he just didn't feel
36:36like he'd come to me and talk to me about it. Probably feel I would just like go off on him
36:40or something. No. But if he had come to me and talked to me about it, I would have been understanding
36:45with him about it and to see what could we do to solve the problem. Son, I don't know. I just,
36:50I don't know what to say. I am worried. I've been going doing this so long. It's going to be a hard
36:59process to get him to stop. I love you and I don't want to see nothing happen. I think by talking to
37:08the family about it, have a meeting, a family meeting, discuss all this. Yes, ma'am. Um, and I think it's
37:17going to be hard to stop. But, um, I'm willing to seek help. First step for me is winging myself
37:27off of four bags. I'm going to have to take it one day at a time.
37:47It's hot out. Yeah, it is.
37:59Oop. My grandma really wanted me to go see this doctor. She knew if I didn't drive here,
38:05then I wouldn't have even went. Hi. Hello. Hi. I've scheduled an appointment for my granddaughter.
38:11Okay. Hello. Welcome. Hi. Thank you. I'm nervous just because even though I feel fine,
38:16talking to everyone made me realize that there could be something that's building up that I don't
38:20know about. But I don't want to hear that. I can't imagine life without eating hot glue.
38:27It's just a thing I do every day. I don't think I could stop it.
38:31All right. So what brings you in today? Um, so my grandma forced me here today because I have a hot
38:38glue eating addiction and she's concerned for what it's doing to me.
38:45She thinks it's affecting me. I don't think it's affecting me. But for her peace of mind,
38:49I'm here today just to make sure everything's fine. Okay. Well, grandma, thank you for bringing
38:52her. I'm glad you brought her. You're very welcome. And when did you start eating hot glue sticks?
38:57At around 13 years old. So it's been a while. So have you had any health problems? Constipation or
39:04diarrhea or stomach pain? I do have pretty bad constipation. The longest I went without pooping
39:10is over two weeks. Okay. So basically when you eat the glue stick or any type of plastic,
39:17stomach acid peels away the coating layer of the plastic, which releases a bunch of different
39:23chemicals. Um, they are toxic. Every one of them is not meant for us to eat them. And those chemicals
39:29are going to cause you to develop fertility problems. It can cause stomach cancer. It can
39:34cause brain problems. But the plastic itself, it's going to stay in your body forever. You're
39:40not ever going to be able to digest it. I don't just poop it out like whole... No, you won't.
39:50That is eventually going to cause you to get a blockage in your colon. And about 50% of the people
39:56who have a blockage die because they don't get to the hospital fast enough.
40:02Yeah, that's pretty, pretty bad then. Yeah, it's pretty scary, isn't it?
40:07I know I always say, if I feel good, then I'm good. But today the doctor told me that I do run a
40:13really bad risk of getting a bowel obstruction that could kill me. That was pretty jarring.
40:18Do you mind if I feel your belly? And you can just breathe normal. Does any of this hurt if I push on
40:25here for you? Oh, okay. What if I push in here? Okay. Yeah, that hurts. Okay. What about over here?
40:30Nope. Okay. So this side is flatter. You probably notice it caves in a little bit. But this side of
40:35your abdomen is a lot firmer and a lot larger. So that tells me that what's going in the hot glue
40:41sticks is getting stuck in this part of the colon. So this area is already compromised. My guess is by
40:48feeling this, you're starting to develop a blockage here. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
40:53Jaden is at a significant risk for permanent colon issues, a rupture which could cause her to die,
41:01and impending cancer. It's in my opinion that it's not if she develops cancer, it's when she's going to
41:08develop cancer because of the amount of chemicals that she's exposed herself to. At this point, the amount
41:13of glue sticks and plastics that you've been eating, you may still need a surgical procedure to remove
41:19them because of the amount of plastics that you've had consumed over your lifetime so far.
41:24So are you willing to take a step to try to not consume the plastics to make a difference for that?
41:30Um, I... she's looking at me. Um, I could try. Would it help if I just like lowered the intake?
41:40It would help immensely if you lowered the intake, but it's still not going to take away your wrist.
41:45I am heavily considering stopping eating hot glue sticks just because I don't really want to die.
41:51And I'm really worried about my grandmother's reaction because for me to look over to her in
41:55the doctor's office, like I know her face before she cried, she was looking like she was getting there.
42:00It's like I'm hurting her if I'm hurting myself.
42:03I think she got the point. I know I did. And I'm going to stay on top of her about this for sure.
42:10I think it's going to be hard just because I do it so habitually. I do it without thinking.
42:23I do it before I go to sleep. I do it when I wake up, but I have a lot I want to do.
42:27I want to become a psychologist and I do want to have kids one day and I can't really do that if I'm dead.
