One of the best known secrets in Nintendo video games may be shown as a pattern of information in the 1987 science fiction / fantasy action film Master Of The Universe. The first world (Grass Land) fortress location of one of three warp whistles hidden throughout the video game Super Mario Bros. 3 was famously shown in the ending tournament scene of 1989 adventure comedy The Wizard. The Cosmic Key (a somewhat similar concept to the warp whistle) is shown in Masters Of The Universe. Skeletor and his forces spend much of the movie hunting down the device which has opened a portal from the fantasy world of Eternia to a small American town on Earth circa 1987.

Actor Billy Barty plays the locksmith Gwildor. He has an interesting connection to Super Mario Brothers in that he acted in the 1957 horror film The Undead. This was directed by Roger Corman, written by Charles B. Griffith who later envisioned the horror / comedy The Little Shop Of Horrors (1960). The opening theme music of this film is very similar the fortress level of Super Mario Bros. 3. And there are other similarities such as the carnivorous Piranha Plant of the Mario games and Audrey in Little Shop.

When the Cosmic Key is used in the film a melody or tune can be heard and the Earth people believe it may be a new musical instrument similar to a synthesizer / keyboard etc. The Warp Whistle in Mario 3 also has a accompanying tune and transportation effect. The heroes are transported to a wooded or forested area near the American town. The super leaf located at the end of the passage way in the Mario 3 fortress is key enabling Mario flight ability to reach the secret doorway in a hidden area above the screen frame / ceiling. The heroes wind up eating some fried chicken shortly after arriving on Earth in the He-Man film. A skeletal Koopa Troopa enemy turtle character is located in the fortress area called "Dry Bones".

00:00We're talking about knowledge of the future in movies, YouTube channel, Easter Egg Psychic.
00:06It's one of the best-known secrets in Nintendo video games, located within the First World
00:13Fortress of Super Mario Bros. 3, 1988.
00:18That's the orange castle-looking structure in the middle of the world map.
00:24You'll find here one of three warp whistles, and these are hidden throughout the game.
00:31So located at the end of the first scrolling part of this stage, you'll find a question
00:39mark block next to a window.
00:42Inside this is a power-up item, the super leaf.
00:47This will give Mario the ability to fly, and he sprouts a tail.
00:53His appearance changes as he dons the raccoon or tanuki suit.
00:59An enemy can be found here named Dry Bones, and he's a skeleton type of Koopa Troopa, the
01:05turtles which are common enemies in the Mario game series.
01:09At the end of this passageway, there happens to be enough room so that you can get Mario
01:16to get up to speed and fly.
01:18There's a secret space directly above this area.
01:24Now there's a doorway here.
01:25You're transported to a secret room where there is a treasure chest.
01:32Inside this is one of the three warp whistles.
01:36This is added to your inventory.
01:38And when used, a magic toon and whirlwind whisks Mario away to the warp zone, which you can
01:47choose to skip ahead to another major world.
01:51This trick was famously shown in the ending video game tournament in the 1989 adventure
01:58comedy film The Wizard.
01:59I did some thinking about this, and I believe that it can be shown as a pattern of information
02:06in several movies, which predate the Japanese 1988 release.
02:12In one of these, the 1987 superhero action film Masters of the Universe.
02:17This was based on the popular toy line and animated series, and starred Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella,
02:27Courtney Cox, James Tolkien, Billy Barty, Robert Duncan McNeil, John Cypher, Chelsea Field,
02:34and Anthony DeLongis.
02:36Alright, so the story of this movie combines fantasy and high-tech science fiction elements.
02:43The archetypical villain Skeletor captures Castle Greyskull, the stronghold of the heroes.
02:53Meanwhile, He-Man, Man-at-Arms, and Teela attempt to raid the fortress.
02:59They meet the alien locksmith Gwildor, and he's invented a cosmic key that can open a portal
03:07to any location in space and time, and the heroes wind up in an American town sometime in the mid-1980s.
03:17The character Gwildor, played by Billy Barty, is absolutely key to seeing a connection to this
03:25well-known Mario 3 secret.
03:29Barty worked with movie director Roger Corman and writer Charles B. Griffith in the 1957 horror film
03:36The Undead.
03:37Your direct link to a Super Mario Bros. 3 reference can be seen in The Little Shop of Horrors in 1960.
03:47This was directed by Corman and written by Griffith.
03:50The opening theme of this horror comedy, very similar to the background melody played in this
03:59level of Mario 3 that I'm describing.
04:03Now, the cosmic key in Masters of the Universe, the people on Earth believe, may be a type of
04:11musical instrument, and when this is used in the film, a special melody can be heard.
04:18Now, in The Undead, Billy Barty plays an imp, and that movie makes his introduction, roosting
04:25atop a tree limb in the forest.
04:27So, I thought that may be a possible nod to the Super Leaf in this Mario 3 level.
04:36Additionally, when the cosmic key is used in Masters of the Universe, the heroes pass through
04:43the portal and also wind up in a wooded or forested area somewhere on Earth.
04:51My YouTube channel is Easter Egg Psychic.
04:53There, I go back and look at movies and television from the past.
04:57I analyze these for possible references to future media.
05:00These may appear in the form of anecdotes, idioms, anagrams.
05:05Hidden in the subtext of the work in question, I also use an unconventional method where I look
05:10at the likenesses of the actors.
05:12And what I've found is you can take the likenesses, match these up to some of the anecdotal items,
05:19and show past, present, and future information about actors and other personalities that may
05:26resemble the personalities in the movie or television episode that you're watching.
05:32My email contact is easteregguy, that's G-U-Y, at yahoo.com.
05:39Thanks for watching.
