00:00I am so thrilled to be here tonight. When I started Naturally Curly 18 years ago I
00:16had no clue that we were helping to start a revolution. This event tonight,
00:21Texture on the Runway, is all about the consumer and showing that beauty comes
00:26in all shapes and sizes. It's not just blonde straight ponytails. It's waves, it's curls,
00:33it's coils. We had so many brands clamoring to be a part of this event. I mean that the
00:39looks you're gonna see on the runway tonight are so amazing. I mean they're
00:42artwork. It shows just the true spectrum of how beautiful texture can be. So
00:48you're gonna see dark and lovely au naturel, you're gonna see Cantu, Design
00:52Essentials, Cream of Nature, and Garnier on the Runway. I mean totally different
00:57interpretations of texture. Hi my name is Johnny Wright. I am here with Au Naturel by
01:03Dark and Lovely. The inspiration today is really all about texture. You know we're
01:06trying to make a natural hair very avant-garde, very runway. All of it's not
01:11necessarily wearable, but it's gonna be interesting, it's creative, it's artistic,
01:16it really really shows the versatility of hair and solidifies its place in fashion.
01:23I'm Maria Antoinette and I'm here representing Cantu. The inspiration behind
01:27the theme for Cantu is the expression of me. It's about representing the women that
01:31we are every day. We're a boss, we're a multitasker, we're the fit chick, we're the
01:35jet setter, we're the moms, we're the nanny, we're everything. So being able to
01:39highlight that in the show is really a big deal for Cantu.
01:45I'm Chuck Amos, I'm a celebrity hairstylist. We're working with David
01:49Delacruz and his designs are based on disco and 70s and all the socialites, the
01:54luxuriousness of that 70s upscale woman and also some sporty looks of the 70s.
01:59The overall look for the Cream of Nature show here is 70s woman on the go. She's
02:04socialite, she's a sports girl, and she's a nighttime disco girl and all of them
02:09will be represented.
02:14My name is Marco Vogt with the Design Essentials product range. We created this
02:19knotted section look. We did this curly rod set. We did this reverse braid top knot
02:29and a flattened fringe party look. She has human hair extensions. We prepped her with
02:35the Design Essentials product range and now it looks gorgeous.
02:38We pinned her up in an asymmetric bob look. I hope you enjoyed our show War on Dryness.
02:45Hey guys, I'm Tommy Bucket. I'm celebrity stylist for Garnier Fructis.
02:53Girls with curls are really afraid of like dry texture sprays and we're gonna kind of do that.
02:59We're gonna show like how fashion now and runways are embracing curls and almost brushing them out to
03:05encourage frizz. Frizz is cool again, which is like amazing.
03:09I think about this show as a way to celebrate our past and also to toast to our future and I think about all of the little girls that will get to see
03:19these images and know that their beauty is validated. So thank you to all of the brands.
03:24Thank you to all of the bloggers.
03:26Thank you to all of the influencers. It's like a family reunion up in here.
03:30So I love you guys. Thank you for all for coming out. Thank you to Naturally Curly, Texture Media, rocking it for 18 years.
03:37I am Patrice, the creator of Afro Bella and I'm super excited and happy to be here.
03:43You know, for so many years you would see so much exclusion in the fashion space
03:47and you would see so many fashion shows where they didn't have barely any women of
03:50color, much less, you know, women with natural hair. They were telling us what we
03:54were supposed to look like and now we determine what our beauty is and we
03:57embrace our beauty on our own terms. So this is really an evening about
04:01celebrating us in all of our variety in terms of our skin tones, in terms of our size, in
04:06terms of our texture.
04:08Hi guys, my name is Christina Brown from LoveBrownSugar.com. I am tonight's social
04:13media hostess. Texture on the Runway is definitely a who's who of the natural hair
04:18community. I literally was looking around and seeing all these amazing women that I
04:22love and admire, people I follow on social media. I mean, it was just awesome. I had a
04:28really great time and I just feel like this was definitely the place to be
04:31tonight in New York City. What's up guys? Africa Miranda here, actress, host, TV
04:37personality, and the official Periscope correspondent for Texture on the Runway. I just want to thank
04:43Naturally Curly, Texture Media, Target Style for having me here tonight and oh my
04:47God, can we talk hair? Can we talk fashion? Can we talk black girl magic? And not just that,
04:52but can we talk all-woman magic? Tonight was a night for all textures, all tones, all the melanin, all the shades, and for women to unite in a space where we can feel beautiful.
04:58And know that if you're from the kinkiest of curls to the silkiest of straights, this was a place for you tonight.
05:05Hey beauties, my name is Tala Alexander with Gordis and Gray, and as you can see, the show was absolutely lit.
05:15It was amazing hair, amazing designs. If you weren't here, you missed out on an amazing show.
05:21I want women to walk away from this feeling excited, inspired, feeling beautiful, you know, however they wear their hair.
05:32And to the industry, I have a really strong message. This is not a campaign you do once a year.
05:40Women with texture are dealing with their hair every day. It's not something that you just do every now and then.
05:48We spend 20% more on average a month than straight hair consumers.
05:53So if you're a company, you better be taking this seriously or you're missing out.
05:58We're gonna get it out.
05:59We'll be out.
06:00We'll be out.
06:01We'll be out.
