00:01Petra, scan gantry four.
00:04Checking gantry four.
00:08Camera eight.
00:12Petra, support system check.
00:14All support systems functioning.
00:17Devil's wrong with you.
00:21Finbo?
00:24Finbo!
00:30The fog of theös.
00:32I think it remains to stay.
00:34Sailor pinheye three.
00:39Yes, yes.
00:43She didn't do it since.
00:50Finbo.
00:51Try to keep his head as low as possible.
01:03If there's any way you can get his head down.
01:05Not without releasing his shoulder, Clam.
01:07No, don't do that.
01:09Lima Zulu-5 to Iliath.
01:11We'll conduct alignment manoeuvres and begin final approach.
01:14Roger, Lima Zulu-5.
01:16All right, Paul, the shuttle's coming in now.
01:18How many of them are there?
01:19Two-man team.
01:20He's unconscious again.
01:22Paul, it's important to let us know how long he's unconscious for.
01:24Yes, I know that.
01:25You must tell us each time he goes unconscious.
01:27I am doing, Christophe.
01:29Holding at ten metres and carrying out final lines.
01:33Permission to go for docking, Lima Zulu-5.
01:35Commencing docking approach now.
01:38Five metres.
01:39Two metres.
01:41One metre.
01:43Soft docking complete.
01:44I don't like this back out.
01:45Better off unconscious, isn't it?
01:47Not if his brain is being stuffed of oxygen.
01:48Paul, how is he?
01:51Still unconscious.
01:5218 seconds.
01:53I'm going to the engine.
01:55Remember, you stupid beggar.
01:59Attention, everybody.
02:00The rescue team from Valhalla is coming aboard now.
02:05And in approximately three minutes, we will slow the gantry arms.
02:09This is so that the rescue team bringing Mr. Lewis on board will not have to fight gravity as well as everything else.
02:15During a manoeuvre, you must all remain strapped in until my all-clear.
02:22Yes?
02:28Are you frightened?
02:30It's routine.
02:32You remember going through the drill?
02:34Yes.
02:35Are you okay?
02:36Of course I'm okay.
02:37I just wanted to make sure you were awake for acceleration stations.
02:40You know what you're like for sleeping.
02:42Do you want me to come to you?
02:43No, of course I don't.
02:45I'm not scared.
02:46I was just calling to talk.
02:48I had that during a ten-minute standby, not six hours.
02:54Okay, we were 40k out of Valhalla.
02:55We've got here as quick as we could.
02:57Okay, when you get to him, try to increase his oxygen supply.
03:00It's vital to give him...
03:00Okay, Elliot, they're ready to go.
03:02Every second, his unconscious could be critical.
03:04Welcome aboard, Mercedes.
03:06Morning, Charles.
03:07Sorry we're a bit late.
03:08I'll see you for breakfast.
03:09All personnel to acceleration stations...
03:11All right, Paul.
03:12Rescue team on its way.
03:13I'm very glad to hear it.
03:15Petra, standby decompression stopped.
03:18Stop it there, lop.
03:19Warning to all personnel.
03:21Please secure all loose items and place all liquids in sealed containers.
03:27The loss of gravitational stability will be followed by approximately 30 seconds of backlash,
03:33induced instability yielding disturbed movements before the ship settles.
03:38Do not be alarmed by erratic violent movement during this time.
03:42Hi, gorgeous.
03:43Hi, Rebecca.
03:44I had a dream of supporting something.
03:45Oh, thanks.
03:48We've had an awful night.
03:52We've been stuck in the transit bound since midnight.
03:55It's been awful.
03:56We've had a deep weeping all over the place.
03:58Nothing to eat.
03:59Yeah, well, it hasn't exactly been a bundle of fun for us, Daniel Treasurer.
04:01What's she doing up for now?
04:03Vertigo.
04:03He's been out there all night.
04:04And then 10 minutes ago, they decided to turn off the rotary arm.
04:07Rotary deceleration commences.
04:09T minus 120.
04:10You haven't seen a couple of boxes from me, have you?
04:12What sort of boxes?
04:13From Central Stores Delicatessen.
04:15They promised to put two boxes of goodies on the Lake Shuttle.
04:17No, I haven't seen any boxes.
04:18Have you seen any boxes, have you?
04:19Oh, come on, look.
04:20Go, go, go.
04:20Oh, I'm sorry to work here.
04:25I never know where to lay my weary head these days.
04:30Okay.
04:31Charles Brelin.
04:32Mercedes.
04:33We're going to need to launch burn at 7.30 if we want to go to boost into a higher orbit
04:37to pacify.
04:38Can't go anywhere with Thimbo Lewis and the glamour squad clinging to the gantry arm.
04:43Just reminding you.
04:44Morning, Elliot.
04:45Petal.
04:47I hear you were with them in Valhalla.
04:49And I thought you were busy computing our course to the Achilles.
04:51A breath of fresh air and exercise, all part of the training program.
04:56Oh, yes.
04:58They're here.
05:00And Thimbo's conscious again.
05:02How do you feel, Thimbo?
05:03Rotational deceleration, T minus 30 seconds.
05:07I'll be all right.
05:08You should never have left the Space Scouts.
05:11You should have stayed in Melbourne.
05:13Space is for people who are tough and a bit coarse,
05:16not for sensitive romantics with delicate stomachs and vertigo.
05:19I don't agree.
05:20He's climbed to the rescue line.
05:22Is he still conscious?
05:23Just about.
05:24Thank God.
05:25We're waiting for the rotation to slow.
05:27Rotary deceleration commences now.
05:30In the end, it's courage that matters.
05:33And I think Thimbo is a man of courage.
05:35Yeah.
05:36Well, we all are, really.
05:37Really?
05:38So, how come red hair, blue eyes and a name like Gabriella Tansy?
06:03Well, my mother's Irish.
06:06Oh, I have a brother, Mario.
06:07He's dark and good-looking.
06:09He's a doctor in Firenze.
06:11Well, the rest of us moved to Greenwich when I was...
06:14Oh, God.
06:15Hey, Gabriella.
06:16You all right?
06:17Yeah.
06:17All right.
06:18You must have been in Free Fall before, haven't you?
06:20You must have tried flying in the Pleasure Derm on the way out here, didn't you?
06:23I hate being frightened.
06:25I hate and loathe being frightened.
06:27I mean, how am I ever going to be a space navigator if I'm scared of space?
06:30Ah, you want to be a navigator.
06:32I'm going to be a navigator.
06:33Of course you are, sweetheart.
06:34Nothing's going to stop me.
06:35OK, OK.
06:37Some people can't help having a vivid imagination.
06:40That doesn't mean they're cowards.
06:42Oh, my God.
06:43Hey, Gabriella, can you sort of...
06:45Thanks.
06:51Yes?
06:52I'm going to need you on the bridge as soon as this is over.
06:55Pre-ignition for the Bernd to pacify.
06:56I've just got back.
06:57So?
06:58I've been working most of the night.
06:59Don't be pathetic, Mercedes.
07:01Don't be so inconsiderate, OK?
07:03Christ.
07:04He's got back on the ship for five minutes and already he's having a go.
07:08Do you always talk to the captain right now?
07:10Oh, no, no.
07:10That wasn't the captain.
07:12If I'd have been Elliot, I'd have punched him in the face.
07:15No, that was Professor Brenham.
07:18Rotary acceleration motors engaged.
07:20Effective country gravity building 0.2G to 0.4G.
07:25Oh, is he?
07:26Will attain more gravity in 1.55.
07:29You are free to leave acceleration.
07:34Oh, finber me, old fiend.
07:36What are we going to do with you at school?
07:38Right, well, I'll show you where to get out of your suits.
07:43Then we'll get some records.
07:44Oh, all right, all right, I'm coming.
07:56Gabriella, will you tell him he's a selfish pig and I'm coming as soon as I can?
08:00Uh, she says you're a selfish pig.
08:08Tell her if she doesn't mend her temper, I'll mend it for her.
08:12Charles?
08:13Oh, come on, Mercedes.
08:14New voyages to make, new worlds to conquer.
08:17I think he's loathsome.
08:21I really think he's loathsome.
08:23Yes, I suppose he is a bit.
08:24Good morning from Red Spot Radio.
08:30It's 600 hours and 45 minutes, Tuesday the 22nd of August.
08:35And news from the snowball is that First Officer Finbo Lewis of the Ilya
08:40has been rescued by the Daedalus Glamour Squad
08:43after spending a night on the tiles.
08:51Okay, Finbo, just relax now.
08:53I'm getting senses to your wrists.
08:56There's nothing to worry about.
08:57You're just dehydrated.
08:59That's your problem.
08:59I couldn't move.
09:01Yes, yes, I know.
09:11Never look down suddenly.
09:13You know the rules.
09:14I let go of the laser knife.
09:16You must keep to the rules.
09:18You of all people break in the rules.
09:19I let go of the laser knife and I saw it drifting away
09:22and I was drifting with him.
09:23My stomach was in the back of my foot.
09:24Bimbo.
09:24What?
09:26Why do you keep doing things you shouldn't do?
09:28We had to end the radiator.
09:30Somebody could have come up from Space City.
09:31Oh, no.
09:32What if we were in deep space?
09:34What if we were three days out on the voyage to pacify?
09:36What then, huh?
09:37We weren't in deep space and I've been scared out of my wits because of you.
09:40I think, I think I'll try and get some sleep now, Elliot.
09:48You daft beggar.
09:51What do you want to go frightening me like that for?
09:54What were you doing in Valhalla?
09:56I've told you, a training programme has simulated me to right-head on a moon buggy.
10:00Interesting.
10:00Yes, well, it wasn't campfire sing-songs and let's curl up in each other's sleeping bags.
10:04No.
10:05Oh, Charles, you cannot be jealous of people in EVA suits talking to each other.
10:10I've started going through the Achilles shield programme.
10:13I think the asteroid may be instable.
10:15Yes, well, it's not the only one.
10:18When can you look?
10:20This afternoon.
10:21I beg you back to the bridge.
10:22See you there in ten minutes.
10:23Right.
10:26It's great to have you back.
10:35Four days from now, our journey to pacify will pass through Europa.
10:49It's the only one of Jupiter's Galilean satellites smaller than Earth Moon.
10:53It has a surface of smooth, polished ice.
10:56What else?
10:57Silicate core.
10:59Mm-hmm.
10:59Huge reservoirs of liquid water trapped under the crust.
11:02Right.
11:03Anything else?
11:04There's been a pre-industrialisation study team in place since 2047.
11:10She was a beautiful maiden.
11:12I beg your pardon?
11:14Europa was a maiden.
11:15And Zeus came to her disguise as a white ball and she let him carry her away.
11:19Right.
11:20And then he revealed himself as a god.
11:23Sorry to interrupt.
11:25And they made love and had three sons.
11:27Right, well, let that be a warning to you, eh, girls?
11:30Sarah?
11:30I want you to look at something.
11:31Come, Sam, okay?
11:32I'm taking a seminar.
11:33I'm sure they won't mind.
11:36All right, well, sorry.
11:42It's the murder.
11:43This isn't good enough.
11:44First it's on training exercise, then it's student lectures.
11:47I need you with me.
11:49The Achilles shield isn't giving us the right information.
11:51I want you to sort it out now.
11:53Any luck?
11:58No.
12:00Not a solitary olive.
12:01Not a single anchovy.
12:02I'm glad you think it's funny.
12:04I think it's a disaster.
12:05If I have to look at another plate of mushroom stroganoff, I'll go mad.
12:09Mushroom stroganoff has not been served on this ship for over three weeks.
12:12I suppose you did order it.
12:14I beg your pardon?
12:15I mean, sometimes you can get a bit confused, scatty, in the nicest possible way.
12:21I placed the order with the delicatessen and they promised faithfully to put it on the last shuttle.
12:25So no goodies?
12:26No.
12:27Perhaps they've fallen into a black hole and been stolen by Martians.
12:29Can't be Martians.
12:31No, why?
12:32They're the only people in the universe who actually like your mushroom stroganoff.
12:38I don't actually need to be told about regulations.
12:41I've lived with regulations for the past 20 years.
12:45Now, I have a ship to run, so if you don't mind, I'll just get on with it.
12:52Now, have another look at the Achilles shield, Captain, and file N-59-1-74, infrared and telescopic observation.
12:58There you are.
13:00Mind if I leave you to it?
13:01Oh, that's all right.
13:02Another round of sickbay, visit the walking wounded.
13:05Captain's task is never done.
13:07Petra, come send lights to navigation level.
13:09What did they want in Space City?
13:11No, just a bit of bump from space control.
13:15Usual bureaucratic twaddle.
13:17Now then, look at this.
13:21By the way, you got anything planned for this evening?
13:24Mm-hmm.
13:24A good sleep.
13:26Ah.
13:27Yeah, I've got my own cabin back and I want a luxuriating bit.
13:29Oh, here it is.
13:32This was taken at 3.7 million kilometers distance, with G-33 approaching at 300 kilometers a second.
13:40Hey, what's that?
13:42I don't know.
13:43The file seems to have activated it.
13:44Well, it is 13 years old.
13:47We're having a spook evening.
13:48Cabin 3.
13:49Terrified.
13:50Oh, no, not again.
13:51Only 50 eqs.
13:5350 eqs?
13:54Okay, so what do we get for these 50 eqs, please?
13:57Terrified.
13:57Oh, yes.
13:58Daniel, Cabin 3's our cabin.
14:01Yes, and you, my boy, can get in for 25 eqs.
14:04You can't charge him money to get into his own cabin.
14:07No, it's not for the entrance.
14:08It's for the entertainment.
14:11Everybody's paid in the past, okay?
14:13Right.
14:15Philippe.
14:16I'm not going to pay to get into my own cabin.
14:18I wouldn't bother being diplomatic about it if I were you.
14:20I'd just get back there first and change the security code on the door.
14:24They've been going on about it for the past three months.
14:27Tried to get me on a refresher course on series.
14:30Oh.
14:31You didn't ask me.
14:33Well, you're not a captain, are you?
14:34Nearly.
14:36Might have been nice for a refresher course in navigation and command skills.
14:39Yes, Fimbo.
14:41It's not unreasonable, Elliot.
14:42It is.
14:43It is totally unreasonable.
14:45I've been navigating and commanding in real life for the past 15 years.
14:50Now they want me to recit exams halfway through a very demanding voyage.
14:54Only because you wouldn't take them in Space City.
14:56And I'm not going to take them here either.
14:58Oh, look, you have to, Elliot.
15:00You can't let them take your ticket away.
15:03Fimbo, you old doc.
15:04Oh, hello, Daniel.
15:05Hello, Jim.
15:05Have you come to see me?
15:06Yes, of course we have.
15:08Ruby Kamara mentioned you this morning.
15:09Did you?
15:10Ruby Kamara is a computer program.
15:12The sexiest in the galaxy.
15:14How are you feeling?
15:15Oh, a lot better.
15:16Well, a bit embarrassed, to be frank.
15:18What did Ruby Kamara...
15:19What are you doing?
15:21Oh, we're having a little get-together in the Club Galileo later on.
15:25Adam offered to lend us a hand.
15:29Oh, you do know why he's called Adam, don't you?
15:31Go away.
15:33Why is he called Adam?
15:41Because he hasn't got them any more.
15:47Barely one day out and you're at each other's roots.
15:49No, we're not.
15:50But I'll apologise.
15:51I don't mind apologising.
15:53Not that I've got anything to apologise about.
15:55You don't have to share an office with her.
15:56I get no peace till you tell her you're sorry.
15:58Now, listen, you repeat up to me.
15:59She's scatty, forgetful and an awful bursar.
16:01You say I'm sorry, Rebecca.
16:04I am truly and humbly sorry.
16:06I will not say I am truly and humbly sorry.
16:09Oh, stop squabbling, you two.
16:10Ah, to be cool, calm and collected like Mercedes.
16:13Who is she collected by?
16:15That's the point.
16:15Oh, I'm quite capable of collecting myself, thank you, Paul.
16:19So, who hasn't apologised to Rebecca?
16:22Is that really the most important thing there is to talk about on this ship?
16:26Miss Harvey for getting one of her bursarine jobs.
16:28Get the man a drink, somebody.
16:29Hey, to a good voyage, I'm Mercedes.
16:32Hi, everybody.
16:33Oh, that is hi, everybody, except the acting principal.
16:36Well, that's it.
16:37Supper over and the little mic's all tucked up in bed.
16:40No more bursarine till 0700 hours.
16:43I don't suppose there's anybody here who's got anything they want to say to me.
16:46Perhaps a little brandy first.
16:51Right, thank you.
16:53Nearly all here.
16:54Where's Melody?
16:55She's not coming.
16:56Oh, God, if she thinks she's going to see Victoria, she won't.
17:00I mean, Victoria's in deepest mourning of her Jean-Francois.
17:02Yeah, well, perhaps Melody's in deepest mourning as well.
17:04Some people do have feelings, Daniel.
17:06Well, I should hope so.
17:07It's nice having a spooky evening.
17:08People aren't sensitive.
17:11Right!
17:12Here we all are, then.
17:13Right, now, all I need is 25 acres of Philippe, and we can begin.
17:15Sorry, I'll cover my ears if you like.
17:18Well, perhaps you'd like to rent my half of the cabin for a mere 50 acres.
17:22Thank you, David.
17:23Please.
17:25Oh, dim the lights and let the tale be told.
17:29I wish I knew why I always end up giving my money to Daniel Weatherby.
17:33It's because I have an irresistible charm that nobody can resist.
17:37I can't quite believe I've paid good money to listen to this rubbish.
17:40What was that?
17:41I hear the rantings of an evil spirit.
17:48Are you there, evil spirit?
17:53Yes, he's there.
17:55With a dark tale of horror and revenge.
17:58You misunderstood me.
18:02Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
18:03If there's one thing I did not do, it was misunderstand you.
18:06Look, why don't we forget all about it?
18:08I've forgotten all about it.
18:09It's the first night of the voyage.
18:12Captain, give us a toast for the future, sir.
18:18Money galore.
18:20Women ashore.
18:23Lindy of gore.
18:24There's no mistaking a British naval officer.
18:29All right, then.
18:30I'm off.
18:30Oh, come on.
18:31You can't go to bed yet.
18:32Oh, but I can.
18:33Oh, come on.
18:34What kind of a ship is this?
18:35Look, I spent last night rushing from Anderton base to Valhalla in a moon buggy.
18:40Yeah, and I spent most of it on the bridge with Professor Brelin.
18:43Moon buggy sounds much more fun.
18:45Well, it wasn't.
18:46Good night, everybody.
18:48Doctor.
18:49Good night, twinkle toes.
18:50Good night, beddle.
18:51Bye, Mercedes.
18:52Well, don't let us put you off.
18:56Oh, yes, but you're wasting your time.
18:58And ruining your chances of promotion.
19:00The last gentleman who fancied Miss Page was sent to Mars.
19:05Are you trying to tell me?
19:08Come on, you're joking.
19:09Him, Napoleon.
19:10Her, Josephine.
19:12It's a very beautiful story.
19:13And now, he's an old man.
19:19He's rich.
19:20He lives in a huge mansion.
19:21He still has the signet ring that he cut from his dead grandmother's hand.
19:26But he isn't happy.
19:27And then, one day, he meets a beautiful young woman.
19:31And for the first time in his life, he falls deeply in love.
19:35This is the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
19:40He asks her to marry him, and she says,
19:42Yes, oh, yes.
19:46But something disturbs him.
19:49His beautiful fiancée is perfect, but for one thing.
19:54The index finger on her right hand is missing.
19:57He desperately wants to ask her why this is so, but somehow can't.
20:02Finally, on their honeymoon night, as they lie together, he plucks up enough courage.
20:11Why is it missing?
20:13He asks.
20:15Twas cut off, she says.
20:19He's scared, as he's never been scared before.
20:23But he realizes he just must ask.
20:28Who cut it off?
20:32And she replies,
20:33You did!
20:34Oh!
20:34Oh!
20:34Oh!
20:35Oh!
20:35Oh!
20:35Oh!
20:36Oh!
20:36Oh!
20:37Oh!
20:37Oh!
20:38Oh!
20:38Oh!
20:38Oh!
20:39Oh!
20:40Oh!
20:40Oh!
20:41Oh!
20:41Oh!
20:42Oh!
20:42Oh!
20:43Oh!
20:44Oh!
20:44Oh!
20:45Yes?
20:46Mercedes?
20:46It's me.
20:47I just wanted to say goodnight.
20:48It's nice, Charles.
20:49Goodnight.
20:50Oh!
20:51Oh!
20:52Oh!
20:53Oh, Charles, are you sure you weren't just ringing to check that I was here?
20:55Perhaps.
20:56I don't like that, Charles.
20:57Oh!
20:58Oh!
20:59Oh!
21:00Oh!
21:01It makes me very uncomfortable.
21:03I wanted to tell you that I love you.
21:06And that I trust you.
21:08Trust me to do what?
21:10Trust you not to.
21:12What?
21:13Do anything foolish.
21:15Goodnight.
21:16Petra, kill your shield file.
21:17I have never been so frightened in all my life.
21:18It was a good story, though.
21:19It was death.
21:20But when you threw that skeleton hand in, I thought I was gonna die.
21:23It's typical Daniel Weatherby.
21:24He is the only person on this ship who would think a stunt like that was funny.
21:25Well, actually...
21:26Still, it was a laugh, wasn't it?
21:27Yeah.
21:28Hey, it's really nice of you to walk me back.
21:29That's all right.
21:30We should do it more often.
21:31What?
21:32Have the living daylight scared out of us?
21:33Now we'll sit huddled together in a darkened room.
21:34See you, then.
21:35Petra.
21:36if ship would think a stunt like that was funny.
21:38Well, actually...
21:39Estelle, it was a laugh, wasn't it?
21:40Yeah.
21:41Hey, it's really nice of you to walk me back.
21:43That's all right.
21:44Maybe we should do it more often.
21:45What? Have the living daylight scared out of us?
21:47Now we'll sit huddled together in a darkened room.
21:52See you then.
21:52Petra, analyse data, July 29th, 2037.
22:09Evaluate kinematical and surface stability coefficients.
22:14Is G33 a stable or unstable asteroid?
22:20Petra, a detailed analysis.
22:22Take your time.
22:48Jim?
22:49G33 is a tumbling asteroid
22:53with unstable surface characteristics.
22:57That's all I need.
23:00Petra, close down Achilles' shield.
23:02Oh, dear.
23:02Hold on.
