00:00you can't hold a black woman down and boy oh boy has the world tried but we're gonna shine
00:09regardless and i i know that whenever black women in hollywood happens that one day a year
00:18you can probably see us from space because of how much light is in that room i think that um
00:26god is a black woman because of the way the way we possess love and joy and peace the way we create
00:34is just undeniable our light is undeniable and that's what makes us divine i think my favorite
00:43part about shooting the cover is all the people who are behind the camera lifting you up and telling
00:49you how beautiful you are and how amazing the photos look and they're like yes sis and and i'm just so
00:55happy i had that because the anxiety was real this is my first cover so i wanted to make sure it was
01:03right not just for myself but because i know my dad's gonna blow it up and frame it on the wall so
01:08it um it was such a beautiful beautiful experience and just to see black women and black people
01:16in in every space in that at that shoot the executives the hair and makeup team the photographer
01:24the lighting guys the assistants everyone was just black and beautiful and it was so inspiring
01:32i'm inspired by every woman i'm gonna see when i'm up on that stage and making a speech i'm inspired by
01:40every black woman that comes across my television screen or that i see when i go to the movies or on a
01:47billboard or just anywhere there there's no one specific person every single one of them are part
01:55of my journey nia saw this young black woman who had just graduated college and knew nothing about
02:03being in front of a camera and she immediately with no hesitation took me under her wing and i could
02:10name so many things that she did for me throughout that process and after like navigating representation
02:17or giving me her car for two weeks when i was visiting la and needed to take meetings and i
02:23couldn't afford a rental but the most meaningful thing she did was just to make herself available
02:30and to stand up for me when i was too scared to stand up for myself nia taught me what it means to
02:36have a voice and to use it for the well-being of others and that's something that i have not forgotten
02:41and i'll always take with me throughout my journey and she continues to be one of my biggest cheerleaders
02:46and i'm i'm so grateful for our relationship and and for what she has provided and has has given me
02:55within my life my dreams are always evolving and and what i dreamt about doing two years ago isn't
03:01necessarily what i dream about doing now but right now i'm dreaming about accessing spaces within film
03:09in tv where we don't usually see black women i'm not dreaming about a specific role i'm dreaming about
03:18the space i'll be able to take up because of the role and what that will mean for the generations after me
