Transcript
00:00Hi, I'm Rashaun Ali, and I am back again for Essence Wellness House with Well Necessities.
00:07I'm a multimedia personality, but I'm also a huge health advocate.
00:12Yes, I love to work out. I love to eat well.
00:14So I believe that I'm the right person to ask some very important questions to our amazing guest today.
00:22I'm really happy to have Marlene Odom join us. Hey, Marlene.
00:26Hey, how are you?
00:28I love you, Marlene, and you're yellow.
00:30And don't you look poppin' in that pink. I love it. The bow ties and everything.
00:34Come on, bow ties.
00:36Thank you so much. Marlene, where are you from?
00:40I am from Chicago, Illinois, Southside, like Michelle Obama.
00:44Come on, Tatian, what up? So what do you do for Liz?
00:47I am a writer.
00:50A writer.
00:51Yes.
00:53Writers, I love writers.
00:55So what type of writing? Is it like script writing? Are you an author? What exactly do you do?
01:01Scripts, books. Right now, I'm just, I'm sticking my finger in everything and leading in the direction that God has me going in, just following my purpose.
01:09Absolutely. Amen.
01:10And your purpose here today is to try to get this answer right. So I'm going to ask you a question.
01:16Okay.
01:17Okay?
01:18Okay.
01:19Here we go.
01:20What style of yoga is practiced in a very warm room?
01:28I'm going to say bring them because I don't know how to pronounce.
01:33Bring them out, bring them out.
01:36Well, you got to be right.
01:39It's Bikram yoga.
01:41Okay.
01:41This is placed in a very warm room.
01:44I've taken Bikram before you walk in, especially the first time.
01:47You're like, oh my God, how can I handle this? But your body really does adjust well and you have a fantastic time doing yoga.
01:54Do you do any type of yoga?
01:57No, my body is not that flexible. I'm, you know, I'm in my forties.
02:02I can drop, I can drop it like it's warm, but I might have to call the police to get me back up.
02:11I'm going to stay on the ground a little while, you know, so I can't do that.
02:14Listen, you're never too old to do yoga and you are more flexible than you think.
02:19It takes the first step.
02:21So just like you're walking in the direction to be that writer that God wants you to be, maybe he wants you to do namaste.
02:27Okay.
02:28Okay.
02:29Now, if I've been into a pretzel and I can't get out of it, I'm going to blame you.
02:33Okay.
02:34Blame me.
02:36Before participating today, we're going to send you this really, really cute Essence Wellness House pouch.
02:41Okay.
02:41Oh, that's beautiful. Thank you. Thank you.
02:44You're so welcome. Thank you so much for participating, Marlene. We appreciate your time.
02:48Thank you. You be well.
02:49And you as well. Hey, Kristen. How are you today?
02:52Hi, Marisha. How are you?
02:54Doing very well. Yes to this background, sis.
03:01Wow. I mean, I need to put a green background. Lord, that looks great.
03:05We love the green wall. So I definitely think you should add yourself to the green wall.
03:10Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. Okay. So Kristen, where are you from? What do you do? Tell me a little bit more about yourself.
03:16I am originally from Beaumont, Texas. I'm here in Dallas, Texas. And I'm actually the owner of a plant-based skincare and wellness platform called Cocoa Wells.
03:25So we do a little bit of skincare. We host different wellness activities around mental health, all of that great stuff. And our motto is well-led, well-fed, and well-paid.
03:36Yes. Well-led. Say it one more time.
03:40Well-led, well-fed, well-paid.
03:43Come through. Love it, love it, love it. All right. So I'm going to ask you a quick question. You do your very best to answer.
03:49And then we'll give you a little bit more background information on the answer. Okay?
03:54Okay. Hopefully I'll do good at this because I've been living very well. I can feel it. I can feel it. All right. Here we go.
04:00True or false and why we sleep better in a technology-free bedroom?
04:06Would I be better in a technology-free bedroom?
04:10No, we sleep better. Here's the question one more time. We sleep better in a technology-free bedroom. True or false and why?
04:18I'm going to go with true. It limits the amount of distractions, light, noise, the anxiousness to wake up, to check our phone with technology. So I think I'm going to go with true.
04:29I think you are absolutely right. And according to our Essence Wellness House doctors, here's a few things.
04:35A technology-free bedroom can enhance sleep by preventing multiple problems associated with using electronic devices at night.
04:42What you said, using devices tend to delay the time when you actually go to sleep, reducing sleep duration because we're always like, let me see what happened down to the ground.
04:50Well, technology affects your brain, stimulating your mind and making it harder to fall asleep.
04:55Sounds and blinking lights can cause unwanted awakenings when people keep texting you and when they're right next to you.
05:01And that blue light emitted by many devices disrupts the natural production of melatonin, a hormone that facilitates sleep and can throw off the circadian rhythm.
05:10So you got all of that right.
05:12I was thinking that. That's really good. Yes.
05:15Yes, yes, yes. So because you participated and you were spot on, we're going to send you this Well Necessities pouch.
05:23And it's really cute and it kind of matches your backdrop. All right.
05:27So perfect. Yes. Thank you so much, Kristen.
05:29Thank you so much, Rashaun. This was awesome.
05:32Yay. Take care.
05:34Yay. Take care.
05:35Rashaun Ali and I am back with another Well Necessities trivia question.
05:39We are joined by the beautiful Eden. Hello. How are you?
05:42Good morning, Mr. Shad. How are you?
05:45I am doing so well. You look so peaceful.
05:47Oh, I am. I am. I have no complaints. I have a wonderful family. I'm here with you in essence for all this program. I have no complaints.
05:57Beautiful, beautiful. I can feel your energy. I swear I can. And I'm really a good. I'm a person that can really. I can. I can tell good energy. And I know you have that. Tell us a little bit more about yourself.
06:07Well, my name again, my name is Edenette Nyer. I am a mom of four, youngest being 16, two in college, one about to go.
06:15I had, I just started a new business called Model for Mom. I used to model before I had children.
06:23My children are now self-sufficient and I'm ready to get back into the workforce.
06:27I feel like I have so much to offer and I want to create a space where other women who are trying to get back into the workforce and have a mutual, mutual platform to share ideas, share experiences in life.
06:45I'm looking for role models.
06:47Yeah, that's great. That's great.
06:50I'm a woman for women, you know?
06:52Yeah, I can tell. And it's going to be successful. And I cannot wait to hear more from you about your next phase, the next phase.
06:59Oh, my gosh. Thank you, Ms. Rashad. Oh, I have goosebumps and I'm like, I'm like fluttering in my tummy.
07:08Okay. Okay.
07:08Yes, it's beautiful. It's beautiful. All right, let's get to the question.
07:12Okay.
07:14Obviously, the entire world has been affected by the coronavirus, but we want to make sure that we're giving the information.
07:21That we truly need, even as we have new vaccines out and all of that.
07:28But how is the coronavirus disease transmitted?
07:32It's transmitted by droplets, by their aerosol droplets in the air.
07:41That's why you have to wear a mask so you don't get the aerosol droplets in your nose, nostrils, or you want to prevent bodily fluid.
07:53So, you get the coronavirus by the transfer of aerosol droplets.
07:58That's my answer and I'm sticking to it.
08:00I'm sticking to it.
08:02And I think you are pretty spot on.
08:04According to our Essence Wellness House doctors, when people infected with the COVID-19 virus breathe out, clear their throats, cough, sneeze, speak, or otherwise move air out their nose or mouth, droplets of all different sizes,
08:16which can contain the virus, are injected into the air.
08:20So, that is how someone can contract the COVID-19 virus.
08:26All right.
08:26Well, because you participated, you did such a great job.
08:29We're going to send you this really, really cute whale of necessity.
08:32Oh, yay.
08:33So, you can put anything.
08:35Right, right.
08:37So, congratulations.
08:38And thank you so much for being with us today.
08:40You're welcome.
08:41Have a great day.
