00:33ladies of the real then you're right today I'm joined by Lonnie Love, Tamera Mowry-Housley,
00:39Jeannie Mai, and Adrienne Bayon.
00:41Hello!
00:42That's the one person that I'm like, you look a spillable.
00:46Thank you, thank you.
00:48Ladies it's magic season three.
00:50Yeah.
00:51How do you feel and what are you gonna bring to season three for your fans?
00:54It feels like magic.
00:56It does.
00:57A lot of money.
00:58We're bringing a lot of money.
00:59Every single day, one of our guests is taking home $500.
01:03Yep.
01:04So we're giving away mad money and then cars.
01:07Yes.
01:08Cars.
01:09We're doing a big contest with Ford where we're giving away a Ford Fusion.
01:16So we are very excited about that and we're also giving away $10,000.
01:20$10,000.
01:21Now what episode is that?
01:23You contacted the watch.
01:24Go on thereal.com and you actually, you can be one of the contestants.
01:28You actually can, for real.
01:29Y'all heard that.
01:30One of the contestants.
01:31I can use that $10,000.
01:32So it's season three, a lot of things have happened, lots of changes.
01:36How do you ladies keep all of your chemistry?
01:38My God, we're hanging out all summer.
01:40And we hung out all summer.
01:42And I honestly think that when you go through things together, it only brings you closer.
01:46Mm-hm.
01:47So we feel blessed to have that.
01:49The fact that we're always cheering each other on, and you said it best.
01:52Well, there's no competition between the four of us.
01:55We want to see each and every one of the girls succeed.
01:59Right.
01:59And I think that's what makes us bond and just have fun.
02:03Nobody's thinking about outdoing anybody else.
02:06There's an opportunity for one of us.
02:07We're the first ones to be like, my God, you should do that, you're gonna be amazing.
02:10I'm like, go for it, and that's dope.
02:12Yep.
02:13And you've all have such successful careers individually and together.
02:16So how do you feel like the show's helped you guys grow?
02:18And maybe whether it's personally or professionally.
02:21Oh, wow.
02:22I love our producers.
02:23Our producers are very supportive and celebratory of our personal lives.
02:27So, they're the first to congratulate us when we're successfully going through life.
02:33Or they're the first to bring in our stories onto the show.
02:36And we have such loyal fans, too.
02:37The fans want to hear what's going on and stuff.
02:39So, it really is just a part of our life.
02:41The show, you guys are a part of our life.
02:43You know, I stopped drinking because of this show.
02:45Stop or swear more?
02:47That's better than start.
02:48Stop.
02:48Oh, that's awesome.
02:49Actually, I've been on a detox because of this one right here.
02:52That takes a lot of discipline.
02:53Yeah, it takes a lot of discipline.
02:54You gotta clap it up.
02:55And with Tam going through with her weight loss after her post-baby weight,
02:59you know, and then Adrienne getting ready for her life event.
03:02We just, I mean, it just encouraged me and inspired me.
03:06So over the summer, I just kept working on it, working on it.
03:08And then we contacted each other, and then we came back.
03:11We're all doing it.
03:12Yeah, we're all doing it.
03:13As a group.
03:14Yeah.
03:14And then I was like, is this like a long-term thing?
03:16Or is this like, oh, like 30 days or?
03:18Well, this is my third, what is it?
03:20My 42nd detox day.
03:22Dang, 42 days.
03:24But I think all of us have made a lifestyle change in our eating.
03:28So it's, yes, we are detoxing.
03:30But after that, we just want to eat better.
03:33Yeah, take care of ourselves.
03:34We want to be great examples to our fans.
03:38Exactly.
03:39And of course, to your family.
03:40I love following on Instagram and looking at the pictures of the babies.
03:43How's your family doing?
03:44They are amazing.
03:46I will have to say, though, the funniest thing is happening.
03:49Aiden is becoming this angel, and Araya is becoming this toddler.
03:56Feisty.
03:56That girl's very feisty, sassy, and her side-eye-age, holy crap.
04:03That girl can win a side-eyeing contest.
04:06That just means she's not going to take no mess off of nobody.
04:08She doesn't have anybody.
04:10There you go.
04:11Yep.
04:11Are we going to see another Tia and Tamara project in the future?
04:15Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm.
04:17Um, yes, you are.
04:20Ooh, okay.
04:21So awesome.
04:22You are.
04:23Yes, anything else you can tell me?
04:25Not yet, but you will see my sister and I work together.
04:30I love that girl.
04:31I'm so proud of her, and we just wanted to wait on the right timing,
04:36and we feel like the timing is right.
04:39I miss working with her.
04:40I really, really do.
04:42She's very talented and amazing.
04:45Well, you heard it here first on Essence Live.
04:46Yeah, exclusive.
04:48Yeah, and Adrienne, congratulations on your engagement.
04:52Details, I want it.
04:53Wedding tea.
04:54Do you have a date?
04:56That means yes.
04:57That means yes.
04:58She's fine.
05:00Yes.
05:01Yes, okay, big, small.
05:03Intimate.
05:04I always wanted a really intimate wedding,
05:06and I always wanted something really romantic.
05:09And I'm going to be the flower girl.
05:10Exactly.
05:11There you go.
05:11Honorary, two step.
05:12Yeah.
05:13Touch and toss.
05:14Now, Adrienne.
05:16I was trying to give you a flower.
05:17So you have a date.
05:18See, we have real flowers.
05:19Yeah.
05:20Stuffed up.
05:21So you have a date.
05:22Yeah.
05:22Near future?
05:23Yeah, for sure.
05:24Mm-hm.
05:25How near?
05:26Not that near.
05:27Damn.
05:29Do you think you're going to be a bridezilla?
05:31No.
05:32Okay.
05:33I'm waiting for something, just something.
05:36She's the calmest bride ever.
05:38If you watch the real, she'll be revealing some things to us.
05:42So that's why we want people to watch, because she's been kind enough to say,
05:46you know, I'll give you guys little tidbits on the show, so you have to watch.
05:50You know what I love?
05:50I love that I wouldn't want anybody else to cover those special moments.
05:56Right.
05:57This feels like a family.
05:58People don't realize, we spend so much time on this set, that literally,
06:02from stage manager, Sonya, to these people, Ron, these people become like your family.
06:07Right.
06:08So having them be a part of my wedding doesn't feel not organic or weird,
06:13because that would just be weird.
06:14Like, this is people's real lives, my real wedding, like, you know?
06:19It's a really special moment.
06:20So I think having them there just makes it feel organic and natural.
06:25So I love that they're going to be covering it.
06:27You guys will see it.
06:27I want them to have as much input as possible.
06:29I'm really excited about that.
06:31So excited.
06:31We'll be doing wedding shopping together.
06:34I want them to do cake testing, all that fun stuff.
06:36I just can't wait to do it.
06:37Cake testing, that's a good part to be able to do it.
06:39Oh, it's so fun.
06:40See?
06:40But how did you know he was the one?
06:43Because we were friends first.
06:44And I think when you don't ever expect you'll end up with somebody,
06:48you don't care about how you come across, so you end up being your real self.
06:52I was so goofy, like, no makeup.
06:55We were working on a few work projects together.
06:57And I literally would just be myself.
07:01And that's, I think if I knew I liked him, like, if I liked him then,
07:05I probably wouldn't have been genuinely myself.
07:07I would have been like, what am I going to wear?
07:09How am I going to look?
07:10I did not care.
07:11I walked in there and was like, oh, we were watching something.
07:12I'm like, that baby's ugly.
07:14You know, I would say crazy stuff that might make you go, she's a lot.
07:18And I love that we love each other for who we genuinely are as friends, so that was awesome.
07:22Congratulations.
07:23Now, Lonnie.
07:24Yes, ma'am.
07:25You on the Worst Cooks of America.
07:26I watched?
07:28Talk to me about that.
07:29I saw the commercial.
07:30Well, you know what?
07:31I mean, worst is a strong word.
07:32Well, have you seen the cooking segments?
07:34I've been on this show, okay?
07:36You know, I like to do competitions that raise money and awareness for charities, so when
07:42I got the offer to be on the show, I decided to do it because I could raise money for the
07:47American Red Cross, so I'm very, very excited.
07:50It starts September 14th on Food Network, and I learned a whole lot, and you'll be learning
07:55more when you watch The Real because there's a lot of stuff happening.
07:58Awesome, awesome.
07:59And thank you for, like, sharing that with us, and I love philanthropy and giving back, so
08:03that's important.
08:04Yes, thank you.
08:05Jeannie.
08:06Yes.
08:07Where did you go during your break?
08:08Oh, God, where didn't I go?
08:09Me and Mama Mai, I took her to Japan.
08:11I took her to Vietnam.
08:12I took her to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia.
08:14And was that work and play a little bit?
08:16Actually, I was there because I wanted to bring attention towards human trafficking.
08:21I've been working with an organization for a long time, and I've been waiting to shoot
08:25a documentary, and so there are a lot of governmental things going on in Vietnam, and finally we
08:32got the rights to go there to Sapa, Vietnam, and to shoot a pretty deep documentary that
08:39means a lot to me.
08:40We returned 11 women that have been trafficked to their families that were between the ages
08:45of 8 to 16, and I will have to tell you, it's just, it makes me really emotional to be a
08:53first born generation, a first born Vietnamese American here, to be able to bring light back
08:58there.
08:59Because, you know, you never, I don't know, there's a lot of, I call them AMs, that means
09:03sister in Vietnamese.
09:04There's a lot of them there that will never be able to feel like they have the platform,
09:07and I'm sitting here talking about anything we can talk about here at the show.
09:10So, it blesses me to be able to take a little bit of the time that I have here to go there
09:16and bring light on something that's so serious.
09:18That's awesome.
09:19And something we really enjoy, for when we just want to cap off the whole summer, we
09:24went to the answers festival.
09:26Yes!
09:27We had so much fun.
09:29It was so fun.
09:30I wasn't on a detox then.
09:31You can't be on a detox in New Orleans.
09:33Exactly.
09:34I mean, come on.
09:35Did y'all get to see any of the performances?
09:36Of course.
09:37Oh my God, we went to all of them.
09:38Oh my God.
09:39Yeah.
09:40Mariah, Kendrick Lamar.
09:41You saw babyface running around the stadium.
09:43Yes.
09:44But we just want to thank the fans, too, out there, because we had over 4,000 people
09:48come to the live show.
09:49Showed so much love.
09:50We had never did it before.
09:51And it was awesome.
09:52And it was amazing.
09:53So thank you to Essence.
09:54We can't wait for that episode to air.
09:55That's gonna be amazing.
09:56I know.
09:57Awesome, yeah.
09:58I can't wait to see it as well.
09:59But when we come back, I want to play one of the Reels games.
10:02We're going to put an Essence Live spin on it.
10:04More Essence Live is up next.
10:06Woo!
10:07Oh, yeah.
10:08Oh, yeah, oh, yeah.
10:18Number one, I am a classically trained singer.
10:21I studied classical voice and got my degree in voice performance from Boston University.
10:27Number two, I started running marathons about three and a half years ago.
10:33My first one being the New York City Marathon, which was maybe one of the most thrilling and
10:39incredible experiences of my life.
10:41Number three, my parents are from Nigerian descent.
10:44My mom decided to name me Uzamaka, which means the road is good.
10:50Number four, I am a former ice skater.
10:54And still to this day, I'm the only Nigerian that I know that did that.
10:57Number five, I have two Emmys and two SAG Awards, which sounds weird to say out loud.
11:06Number six, I can cook.
11:08I can.
11:09And I love to cook.
11:10I genuinely enjoy the experience of cooking.
11:13Number seven, the cast of Orange is the New Black, specifically the Women in Ghetto Dorm,
11:18which is comprised of Danielle Brooks, Adrienne Moore, Samira Wiley, Vicki Judy, and myself.
11:25We will break out gospel music every single day we are working together.
11:32Not some days, every day.
11:35And we will also throw a 90s R&B mix in there, the rotation as well.
11:44I'm Ciara.
11:45I'm Jasmine.
11:46I'm Chardonnay.
11:47Hi, it's Shantae.
11:49You're watching Essence Live.
11:52And you're watching Essence Live.
11:54Are you going to use that?
12:03You're watching Essence Live.
12:04I'm your host, Dana Blair.
12:05And look where I am!
12:07Woo!
12:08We're in Los Angeles on the set of The Real with co-host Lonnie Love, Tamara Mowry-Housley,
12:12Jeannie Mai, and Adrienne, by all.
12:14Hola, hola.
12:15Hola.
12:16Alright, so if you're just tuning in, remember to chime in on the conversation using the hashtag
12:19Essence Live, or by emailing us at EssenceLive at Essence.com.
12:22Alright, so we already chopped it up a little bit about what to expect from the upcoming third
12:26season of the show, but now I want to play your game, Spin the Heel.
12:30Oh, hey.
12:31Okay, I'm going to spin the heel.
12:32It's our little custom Essence.
12:33Okay, I'm going to spin the heel, and one of you, of course, will either answer the question
12:39or do the dare.
12:40Cool?
12:41Oh, okay.
12:42Alright, here we go.
12:43Spin number one.
12:44That was kind of a weak spin.
12:45I'm going to take it easy on you guys at first.
12:47No, it's good.
12:48Is that good?
12:49It takes forever.
12:50Is that good?
12:51Whenever we have guests that spin that forever, we're like, oh my god.
12:53We're like crazy.
12:54Okay, so the craziest rumor you've heard about yourself.
12:58Who wants to take it?
12:59We all go?
13:00Oh, jeez.
13:01The craziest one?
13:02There's so many dumb things on the internet.
13:04Oh, so many things.
13:05Right.
13:06You want to go first, Adrienne?
13:08You go first.
13:09Adrienne.
13:10Guys, there's literally like a million dumb things I could tell you.
13:13First one that comes to mind where you're like, damn, really?
13:15Like, who would even take the time to even think of that?
13:17Trust me, there are so many.
13:18You know, we actually try to work on the show to block out dumb rumors.
13:22So do you feel like you have to dig for it because you've blocked dumb things out?
13:25Right.
13:26You try not to think about it.
13:27All the time.
13:28I'm actually really trying to think of one.
13:29Okay.
13:30Okay.
13:31Okay.
13:32There's so many.
13:33I know.
13:34There's nothing else that don't want to live.
13:36Yeah.
13:37It's like you're feeding it.
13:38You're feeding it.
13:39You're feeding it.
13:40You're feeding the fire.
13:41Okay, I can do a fun one.
13:42Okay, go for it.
13:43So it's not, you know, too heavy.
13:44Oh, that I'm pregnant.
13:45They say I'm pregnant.
13:46That's why I'm eating it.
13:48Which is so funny.
13:49At the end of the show, we'll thank the guests.
13:50And Adrienne just for fun because it's so dumb.
13:52She'll be like, I just want to thank everybody and just also let you know, I'm not pregnant.
13:57Damn.
13:58They thought they were about to get a scoop, right?
14:00Yeah.
14:01Okay, so I'm going to spin for the next one.
14:02Let's see.
14:03Wait, I want to give Tim's.
14:04Oh, Tim.
14:05It's just that I got a nose job and I got my skin bleach.
14:08Yeah.
14:09I'm like, girl, you think this is the nose I chose of all the noses.
14:12All right, let's try number two here.
14:14Uh-huh.
14:15It's like, sometimes people just need another hobby.
14:17Yeah.
14:18They need another hobby.
14:19Stop bleaching your skin, Tim.
14:20I know.
14:21Okay.
14:22All right.
14:23Oh.
14:24Oh.
14:25Damn, I was going to stop.
14:26All right.
14:27Oh, my.
14:28My family would disown me if they knew Lonnie.
14:31Oh.
14:32Disown me if.
14:33Oh.
14:34My family don't care what I do.
14:36Right?
14:37I knew you stopped drinking.
14:38Right?
14:39No, if I stopped drinking, that's what they would disown me.
14:41What would Mama love?
14:42Jeanie?
14:43What would Mama love?
14:44I know.
14:45Mama Mai has a lot of things to say about it.
14:46You know what?
14:47Honestly, we're, as Asians, we like to save money.
14:50Whenever I buy something expensive, especially fashion, she gets in on my business.
14:54She'll go through my closet and be like, you know, you've seen this at TJ Maxx.
14:58It's only $10.
14:59Why you buy it here for?
15:00It's so expensive.
15:01And I'm like, why don't you just let me enjoy the fruits of my blessings?
15:05It's a pretty Louis Vuitton bag.
15:06Do you ever feel so guilty you return it?
15:08I have returned things.
15:09She has?
15:10Yes, I have.
15:11Yes, yes.
15:12And she's returned it.
15:13Or she'll just go and return it for her.
15:14She's returned many things for me.
15:15I feel like my mom.
15:16And I'll come back and she has the cash sitting there with the receipt.
15:18All the time.
15:19Like, aren't you happy?
15:20I did that for you.
15:21It's cards because they give you like gift cards when you can't show a receipt.
15:24I love that.
15:25I love that.
15:26All right, we have another spoon.
15:27Okay.
15:28My mom would do it.
15:29My mom rearranged my entire kitchen when I was-
15:30Oh my God, that's the worst.
15:31You can't find anything.
15:32You don't know where your bowls are.
15:33Oh.
15:34Oh.
15:35We did that.
15:36That just means I need to get back in the gym and have a stronger press.
15:41A press isn't where it needs to be right now.
15:44Oh.
15:45Uh oh.
15:46Oh.
15:47Oh God.
15:48Okay.
15:49I'm gonna cheat.
15:50Cheating.
15:51I'm gonna cheat.
15:52Cheating.
15:53Most ratchet thing you do.
15:54Most ratchet thing you do.
15:55Oh.
15:56Okay, I'm just gonna say it.
15:57What?
15:58I hate like eating utensils.
16:01What?
16:02Wait.
16:03You do it.
16:04With your hands.
16:05I love, I could sit and eat rice and everything just like this.
16:09I, is that very Asian?
16:10No, that's ratchet.
16:11It's actually Mediterranean.
16:12Yeah.
16:13I mean, I have that in me.
16:14Indian.
16:15And it's Ethiopian.
16:16Yes.
16:17But is that really ratchet?
16:18I watched the episode.
16:19Yes.
16:20But I found out of my background.
16:21This makes sense.
16:22I don't, I actually have sat at restaurants and attempted to get something with a fork and
16:26just been like, stupid and just take it and eat it.
16:29Like I, it's pretty ratchet.
16:31I will be, I prefer to eat with my hands.
16:33Okay.
16:34The most ratchet thing I do I think is I try to save on lotion.
16:37So I always put it upside down when I'm getting toward the end of it.
16:40That's amazing.
16:41Or do you put water in it and shake it up and move it?
16:42Yeah.
16:43Now the water, that's another level.
16:44Yes.
16:45Yes.
16:46I got it.
16:47Don't wait.
16:48Have you ever put water in your milk?
16:49Ew.
16:50Okay, so then we went somewhere else I wasn't ready for.
16:52Milk and water?
16:53No, you're on there.
16:54I use the same Ziploc bags.
16:55Oh, rinse them out?
16:56So you know you wash them.
16:57Oh, you rinse them out.
16:58Okay, that's fair enough.
16:59Hang them on top of things.
17:00Yeah.
17:01That's fair enough.
17:02What was I gonna say?
17:03I really hate my wreath.
17:04Is that ratchet or just being?
17:05So I always have to take it out.
17:06I don't care where we are, I just gotta take it out.
17:09So even if it's dinner or it's somebody's house, you know, when it-
17:12She will.
17:13It hurts.
17:14She will.
17:15I can't take it out.
17:16Yeah, so it's just all.
17:17All right, so here's our final one.
17:18I'm gonna give it a big ol' spin.
17:20Okay, okay.
17:21Yeah.
17:22Girl.
17:24I did like, lifted 10 pounds and I messed my whole life up.
17:28So I don't know how much back I'm putting into anything right now.
17:31Okay.
17:32Oh.
17:33Why does it keep-
17:34Whoa!
17:35That's true.
17:36What's your hidden talent?
17:37Go down.
17:38Okay.
17:39I think, I don't even know if this is a talent, but I think I have emotional intelligence.
17:44Like, I just get people and I get their emotions.
17:48I can sense their energy and sense kind of like what they're feeling.
17:52That's a talent.
17:53That is a talent.
17:54That's a big skill set.
17:55And she really does have it.
17:56Yeah.
17:57That's a big skill set.
17:58Jeannie?
17:59Okay.
18:00I can make my boob move.
18:03Hold on.
18:04Let me see.
18:05Hold on.
18:06What the hell?
18:07That is a talent.
18:08Jeannie Mai.
18:09That's your-
18:10Yo, when you grow up poor, things just come out of the woodwork, man.
18:13You have to tell yourself.
18:14Find things to do.
18:15If I had boobs, I would do that.
18:16Your pec muscles.
18:17Oh, that was really going.
18:18Jeannie Mai.
18:19Thank you guys.
18:20I can't do that.
18:22Good job, good job.
18:23Lonnie, what about you?
18:24Uh, I know how to make toilet wine.
18:26Wait, what?
18:27What is that?
18:28Oh, it's a prison thing.
18:29I can't.
18:30Wait, toilet wine?
18:31Okay, okay.
18:32Did you go to prison?
18:33Like, where did you learn this skill set?
18:35What?
18:36Was there a bid that you didn't tell us about?
18:38Wait, what?
18:39Why do I want to learn this?
18:40We're going to discuss it on the show.
18:42Why would I want to drink that?
18:44Uh-oh.
18:45That's not going to be a segment.
18:46Yeah, that's going to be a follow up on that one.
18:47That's not going to be a segment.
18:48I don't want that.
18:49Adrian, what about you?
18:51Hidden talent.
18:52I know you have a beautiful voice.
18:53Always here, you can talk with your dog.
19:04Wait, how did you discover that you can do that?
19:06Who the heck knows?
19:07I was home doing something.
19:09I actually started saying the word, girl.
19:11And this voice came out, and then I just started doing it.
19:14And then I would do it in classrooms when I was younger.
19:16Like, we'd be taking a test, and I would be like.
19:21How the heck?
19:22That freaked me out.
19:23Wait, can you sing words like that?
19:25I haven't figured that part out.
19:27Teachers would be like, please turn off that toy.
19:30And I'd just be like.
19:32That is awesome.
19:33I love that.
19:34Can you do any popular song, or you can only do that?
19:36I know I could do.
19:37What's the song?
19:38Love it.
19:39Kind of works.
