00:00The singer Chrisette Michelle is being criticized and praised for a series of Instagram posts
00:09where she revealed she's experienced suicidal thoughts, suffered a miscarriage and was dropped
00:15by her record label and that yoga saved her life. Whoa, that's a lot right there. In one of her
00:20captions, Chrisette also spoke about the backlash that she faced for performing at Trump's inauguration.
00:25She wrote, when a community sticks its middle finger up at you and completely forgets everything
00:31you've ever done, you're worthless. You've spent 10 years kicking your own ass to be there for
00:36everyone and suddenly no one is there for you? I don't need to be here. While some applauded
00:41Chrisette for being open and honest, others say her posting a photo of what appeared to be the
00:45remains of her miscarriage just went too far and that she's merely trying to deflect from what many
00:51feel was justified criticism for her support of Trump. Panelists, weigh in. Should we all give
00:56Chrisette a break and slay her for her vulnerability or is this another case of social media oversharing?
01:02In three, two, one, panelists, hold up your panels. All right, shade, shade, shade. All right, we'll start.
01:09We'll start with you, Marshmallow Woman. Okay, tell me, Michelle.
01:12You know, nobody's perfect, right? And it's very hard to do it all right all the time.
01:20Look at this costume. But I think you look great. It's okay. It's okay. I made a choice.
01:26But I think it's also important to speak on it and try to normalize things that women go through,
01:32like rejection, like miscarriage, like suicidal thoughts, like not feeling like you are enough.
01:38And I don't know that Instagram is always a place to do it, but if you do have a platform and people
01:43do listen to it, like, look, we're talking about it now, then that's helpful because it is TMI,
01:48but it's also TMI for one person is healing for the next.
01:52Damn!
01:53Interesting. Interesting.
01:55Don't feel in all this plastic.
01:57Scotty, do you think perhaps she was trying to deflect? Because she did face a lot of criticism
02:01from people saying, you know, about why she performed for Trump. Do you think perhaps there
02:05was an element of that in that post?
02:07Well, yes. Well, I do agree with Michelle. I do agree. If you have a platform and you feel like
02:11you are going through something and you feel like, you know, people will feel like they're not alone
02:17and, you know, with your post, I get that. I understand it. I understand. And I'm sorry for
02:22her miscarriage. As far as Chrisette Michelle as a person, as a whole, I'm not here for, period.
02:29And, you know, her choice shaming that she called, you know, standing by Trump was choice shaming with,
02:36you know, black people are choice shaming her and all that BS. I think it's deflecting. You know,
02:41she's just trying to be the victim of something that she could just own up to. You could just be
02:47accountable and be cool. You know what I'm saying? Hold yourself accountable for the mistakes that
02:51you've made, because obviously it was a mistake. And I would be cool with it. But since you want to
02:57continue to play a victim, then I'm going to shade you all the way.
03:02Yeah, it's like what Kevin Spacey did, huh?
03:03Oh, right. That's, oh, that's a lot. That's a lot.
03:07Turning into another situation.
03:07It is turning into another situation. Sydney, jump in.
03:10Yeah, I do. I feel like she deflected. Like, had she, I'm all here for women sharing their
03:15experiences, especially things like this, because it's tough. But when she connected it to how people
03:20treated her after the inauguration, it was just like, this is not the time, girl.
03:25And who is her core audience, right? Black women.
03:28Yeah.
03:28They're the ones that buy her album. So what did she think was going to happen?
03:31You should ask those Trump supporters to buy her album.
03:33Like, we not the ones, girl.
03:34Mm.
03:35That's right.
03:35Exactly.
03:36All those Robert Lee fans.
03:38Let's check in with Kayla to see what social media is saying.
03:41Hey, Ms. Rodriguez, if you're nasty, what them comments looking like?
03:44Shade all around for Chrisette, unfortunately.
03:47Yondelle Benjamin says, give homegirl a break.
03:49She's going through a difficult, difficult time.
03:51So she tried to have some sympathy.
03:53But everyone else is saying, Jessica, you mean Trump's base isn't your, your fan base?
03:57Christine Shuck says, it's career suicide.
03:59People warned you when you put the rope around your neck and stood on the shaky chair.
04:03Karen Lane says, this is a case of having a warped sense of self.
04:06She made a miscalculated business decision, alienated her fan base,
04:10started with her behavior on reality TV.
04:12Now she's focusing on her healing, but her music career is done.
