00:17as well as many decades of music and really pioneering new sounds and empowering women.
00:22What does this night mean to you?
00:23It means everything.
00:24I've had a spread in Essence, I've been supported by their love, and so have all of my sisters.
00:29This is the premier place for us to express ourselves and be accepted in the community.
00:35And it's always nice to have a male point of view, we haven't had too many of you stop
00:37by on the carpet tonight.
00:38What does this mean to you this evening?
00:40I'm here to support, and I know that women are life, so I have to give thanks to that.

00:47So tell me, who are you looking forward to seeing this evening?
00:50I'm looking forward to seeing Brandy, but I don't want to say that out loud, because
00:53if somebody else is watching...
00:54It's okay, you're in a safe space, it's just us and everybody on Essence.com watching.
00:58I'm thinking of Brandy.
01:00This will be my second time seeing her before I'm in Los Angeles.

01:12I never quite got it right.
01:14Me and dancing is not the best idea.
01:17Okay.
01:18Yeah.
01:19So something that we've been asking our Essence audience using hashtag black women in music.
