00:00As Prince said, you know, this thing we call life, you know, you gotta roll the punches and keep going.
00:11There's something subtly subversive and revolutionary about the expression of black female sexuality.
00:18You know, when it's something historically that has been commandeered by everyone but ourselves,
00:24it's really beautiful to see a woman take that kind of ownership and power.
00:28I think that it's really important for us to feel as though we're in a space where we're allowed to do what we want with our bodies
00:37and without judgment or without feeling inhibited.
00:41And I think for too long we've felt that way.
00:44I think it's time for us to see the complexities and nuances of being a black woman,
00:50and especially a sexualized young black artist, you know, and that's what Nola is.
00:54She's so representative of so many things.
00:56There's so much intersectionality in her character.
00:59And so it's exciting to be able to, like, show that we're, like, sexual, we're fun, we're a mess, we're silly, we're crazy.
01:06We're friends, we're sisters, we're lovers, we're daughters.
01:10We're all of that.
01:11And it's all somehow encapsulized in Nola.
01:15It just feels really good to have created something that people respond to, relate to, see themselves in, you know, are happy to take the ride on.
01:25Like, that's what's really gratifying about it.
01:28Spike Lee and Tanya Lewis Lee, an amazing couple creating amazing stories.
01:34And to have a line wrapped around the block here in Brooklyn, where else?
01:41It's fitting.
01:42I'm so grateful that Brooklyn came out and represented.
01:45And, you know, we out here, like, being from Brooklyn and having this premiere in Brooklyn and shooting this in Brooklyn, you know, with Spike and this amazing cast, man.
01:56Like, it just means a lot.
01:57And I'm just grateful that people connect to it in the way that they do.
01:59Honestly, there is such an anticipation for this.

02:03People, like, help them have their expectations so high.
02:08But a lot of twists and turns, I'll say that.
