Transcript
00:00I have read and been a part of the life of Essence magazine since it was not
00:08necessary for me to put color in my hair. One of my personal favorites was 2009
00:15was Diane Carroll. I've had a hard time. I've had a rough time. I'm not gonna deny it.
00:20Think about it. She came up during like the height of the Civil Rights Movement
00:23and you know when there were not a lot of roles for black women out there.
00:27They said you didn't know how to be. You sure made liars out of them.
00:35Her getting on screen and her getting those parts sent a bigger message to the
00:41Hollywood community and into the world. We deal with only what we have to deal with.
00:46The rest of it you put it over there and say that's their problem. You know she
00:51was dropping gems to the audience and you can't really buy that.
00:56We're going to meet people who are going to come to us out of their package and it
01:02could be very limited. And don't let it disturb you in any way. Just say, oh another
01:08limited one.
01:10You knows what I mean.
01:18You know what I mean.
