00:14Thank you for having me. I'm honored to be here.
00:16Well, I have seen you many times as a guest at our Black Women in Hollywood event. This year you are an honoree.
00:24Yes.
00:25Tell me why it was so important to be political as an actress then.
00:31I don't know how to answer that because I've always been political.
00:36If it's right for us, it's right for everyone.
00:42And if it's not right for everyone, it's probably not right for us.
00:47And so in the position I've had the blessing of being in, I'm always aware of what we're doing, where we're doing it, how we're doing it.
01:05Is it good? Is it good for us? It's good for everyone.
01:10You know, I don't want to be part of some little group over here that is only good for us.
01:17If it's good for us, it's good for everyone.
01:20Why do you feel it's so important for Black women to gather together at this event every year?
01:26Whom else do we have? We are Black women. And I want to represent at every angle what I hold highest and what I hold dearest as a human being.
01:48And to be an example, if at all, I expect of myself again, as I say, I expect of myself what is the highest good that I think of, that I should, where I should be.
02:04Because there are people watching me too. This big and that big and on.
02:11And young women who come, especially young Black women who come up to me and say that, I want to be like you.
02:22When I become your age, how old do you think I am?
02:28And if you can take something and turn it into humor, you can get through so much more than preaching at people.
02:40And by being, you've said it all. And so when someone asks me, I know what to answer.
02:48So if you always kind of expect the best of yourself, you're going to get the best of yourself.
02:57that way, why can't you decide then?
02:58Do you think the best of yourself in thinking and suffering that will take you?
03:00It's about to be
03:14not enough.
03:16Maybe you're going to hear everybody's principle in the language.
