00:00People describe you as a rebel, a rule-breaker, somebody who shakes it up.
00:07How do you describe yourself?
00:09Well, I think those descriptions are accurate.
00:13But I would also describe myself as somebody who's measured and balanced.
00:17Like, people tend to think that people who are rebellious are impulsive.
00:21And I always think things through.
00:23And I know that, you know, people kind of see me as somebody who kind of goes off the cuff
00:28and that kind of thing. And I do that to some degree.
00:30But I'm measured. I'm balanced.
00:32And it's important for me to be thoughtful as well.
00:36So I try to say what I mean and mean what I say, as they say.
00:40How did you make the decision to not let that moment define you,
00:44but use it to catapult you to where you are now?
00:47Well, in the early stages, I didn't know how everything was going to play out.
00:54So it wasn't like I was thinking as soon as that tweet went out,
00:58OK, I'm going to leave ESPN another year and this is going to happen and that's going to happen.
01:02I didn't think that far ahead.
01:04But obviously, as everything kind of snowballed, you know,
01:10it just made me more aware of the fact that there were much different and bigger ways
01:15that I could be using my abilities and my voice.
01:18How do you keep a tweet about Donald Trump from defining you?
01:22Well, I think that's a lot of what my work is about now,
01:25not necessarily me trying to outrun or distance myself from what I said.
01:31I mean, I don't have a problem.
01:32I said what I said.
01:33I said what I said. All right. It is what it is.
01:36So and I've repeated it a few times since.
01:39So it is what it is. But, you know, I think a lot of that has to do with some of the work that I'm doing now,
01:44writing for The Atlantic, putting myself in a space where my perspective is matched with the platform that I'm on.
01:51The great part about this part of my career is that I'm actually working with people as opposed to for people.
01:56I'm employing people for the first time ever in my career.
01:59And that's a really big leap.
02:03It's very significant.
02:05So now there's not a job that I have that I have to have.
02:08I'm doing everything that I'm doing is because I'm passionate about it.
02:11I'm passionate about it. I believe in it.
02:13And it's something that I feel like represents who I really am.
02:17And so to me, that's the way I can define myself or make sure that I'm defined much, you know, larger and in a different way than just a couple of tweets, you know, a couple of years ago.
02:29So.
02:30So.
02:31So.
02:32So.
02:33So.
02:34So.
02:35So.
