Healthy hair starts with embracing what you have.

00:00Hi, I'm Lisa Price, founder of Carol's Daughter, and I'm also Carol's Daughter because my mom
00:10named Carol and I'm her daughter. So I often get asked about my hair. Whenever I put up a picture
00:17somewhere or people run into me on the street, they always ask, what do you use on your hair?
00:23How do you take care of your hair? How do you manage your hair? And it really boils down to
00:27some pretty simple things that I've learned throughout the years. The first thing is accepting
00:34who you are and the type of hair that you have and then working from there. It's always great to have
00:42an aspirational image of what you want your hair to be or to look like, but you have to fundamentally
00:48understand the type of hair that you have first so that you don't try to do something that's just
00:54not possible for the type of hair that you have or the life that you live. And then there's basic
00:59maintenance things. Big, big, big thing that I've learned is minimizing heat on your hair as much
01:06as possible. So while I love diffusing my curls because it just makes my hair big and full and
01:12the funkier and bigger it is, the better I like it. I love it messy. It's not good to use heat on it
01:18every single day because eventually that heat is going to damage it and it's going to dry out and
01:23then I'm going to have to cut it and I'm going to have to start over again. Drying your hair
01:27in different ways is also an important thing. So someone who has wash and go hair, you probably
01:34get it a little damp in the shower. You get out of the shower and your typical thing is to grab a
01:40towel and rub that towel through your hair. That's a bad thing. You want to use a cotton t-shirt because
01:46that towel is creating friction. If you've got really tight curls, your curls are getting wrapped up
01:53in the terry cloth and it's pulling at your hair. So towels are very, very bad. And then as far as
01:58maintenance of your hair, sulfate-free shampoos, deep conditioners, masks once a month to really,
02:06really treat your hair. You have to think of your hair the way you think of your face. We do serums and
02:12oxygen treatments and masks for our face and the hair is framing this. So we can't focus everything on
02:21this. We have to take care of the frame. You wouldn't take a beautiful picture and put
02:24it in a crappy frame. So you want to treat your hair the same way with serums and masks
02:29and really baby it. The biggest thing is to just be patient. Recognize what you've got on
02:34your head, know what you're working with and make the best you can with that. And then you'll
02:38be happy and not worry about it. And you'll never have a bad hair day in your life.
