00:00Hi, my name is Miko Branch. I'm the co-founder and co-CEO of Miss Jessie's, and I'm here today
00:09to talk to you about five tips for transitioning. Transitioning is a method to get back to your
00:14natural texture, and it typically takes time. It's a series of phases that many people take
00:21while they're getting back to their natural texture. So in order to get closer to your
00:26natural texture, we don't want you to do anything that would bring you back to square
00:30one, which would be straight hair by way of hot tools. And sometimes, you know, although
00:35hot tools are not a chemical, and we didn't use chemical to straighten your hair, hot tools
00:40can cause heat damage, which therefore can give you straight hair, which would bring you
00:44back to square one. So we really want you to be careful when you're using any kind of heat
00:49because we would hate for you to start all over again. Number two, you've got to be patient
00:53when you're transitioning. Transitioning is definitely a process, so you've got to get
00:58your mind right and be patient. We know that you weren't a candidate to big chop, which means
01:03take it all off at one time. So, you know, it's going to take a few years, maybe around
01:08two years to completely transition. You really want to get your mind right, and you've got
01:12to be patient when you're transitioning. Tip three, be realistic when you're transitioning.
01:18Many of us are trying to get back to our natural state, and being realistic about what God gave
01:23you is the key. Tip four, while transitioning, incorporate a healthy diet. While you're getting
01:29back to natural, you're really dependent on the state of your natural hair, so that natural
01:34texture needs to be strong, it needs to be shiny, it needs to be healthy. So everything
01:39you put in your body is really going to be the foundation for great natural hair. Tip five,
01:45while transitioning back to your natural texture, you want to find a style that's going to distract
01:50you and keep your mind off of the grow-out process. So whether you do protective styling, braids,
01:56even a braided weave, or a ponytail, anything that's going to keep your mind off of that transition
02:02and that grow-out period would be wonderful.
