Transcript
00:00Straight from the pages of Essence Magazine, I'm Senior Beauty Editor Tasha Turner, here
00:04to take you on a journey to discover the fiercest products, the latest in gadgets, and talk
00:09to you about all things beautiful. This is Beauty All Access.
00:14Today we're here talking about the new trend, the top knot. It's effortlessly chic and if
00:21you're looking to give your ponytail some zhush, here it is. All about the top knot
00:26girls. So what Jackie does is she takes a boar bristle brush and she smooths her edges and
00:32she smooths it all around and she brushes it through. Now, Jackie has fine hair, so what
00:37Jackie does is she takes a little bit of the Tui oil from Carol's daughter, she puts it
00:42through. It's for shine, it's for control, and it's for manageability. It makes it softer.
00:47And she brushes it through with her boar bristle brush and then she secures the ponytail up
00:52high with her elastic. Now, guys, don't use rubber bands. I know we talked about it before,
00:57but I'm serious. Please don't use rubber bands. You get a goodie band, you get an elastic, you
01:02get anything, but don't use the rubber bands because that will break out your hair. So if
01:07you have thicker hair like myself and a coarser texture and you want to do the top knot, we
01:12have to use a little bit more product. I would have to use edge control. I take the edge control,
01:18I put a little bit around all the perimeters before I brush my hair with a boar bristle
01:23brush. Now, here's a tip that the Mizani educators told me. They said, when you brush your hair,
01:28do not brush your hair down because that can break it. You know, sometimes if you wear your
01:32ponytail and you start seeing it breaking, do not brush your hair down. They said, always
01:37brush it up as if you were brushing like your daughter's hair or like you do with a child's
01:41hair. You always brush it up and even you take the ends and brush it if you're trying to get
01:45it done. So, don't forget, as you brush your hair, brush up. It just gives less breakage
01:51with your boar bristle brush. So, for some of us who need a little bit extra help, I take
01:56a small brush and I really get it back with my small brush. Or, I use my hot comb. Yes,
02:02I still take out the old school hot comb, not the one I put in the fire, but they have electric
02:08marks now. So, you guys can still use a hot comb. Put it on a really low setting, so you
02:14can do is, if you don't have an edge stick, what you can do is take your hot comb and
02:21just get your edges smooth back. Particularly in the hot sun and in the heat, or if you're
02:25in between relaxers and it's not as smooth as you want, you can still make it smooth without
02:29having to put that chemical on it. Once the hair is secure, just as Jackie, we take our thick
02:35hair and we secure it with bobby pins. It's simple, it's easy, and voila, you can go out
02:42to a party or you can run around on your Saturday activities. Check us out here at Essence.com
