00:00I'm Jackie Aina.
00:07Jackie, Jackie, Jackie, Jackie.
00:08Jackie, Jackie, Jackie, Jackie, Jackie, Jackie.
00:10Jackie, Jackie, Jackie.
00:11Welcome to my Essence Uncovered.
00:17Well, it's my first cover ever, so I'm beyond excited.
00:21Growing up seeing Essence, it was like the embodiment of blacker magic
00:24and just being established and powerful and strong.
00:27So many positive images of what it meant to be a black woman.
00:31Now I get to contribute to that, so I'm so excited.
00:33Hi, my name is Marielle Bobo, and I'm the fashion director here at Essence.
00:37We're going for just this kind of over-the-top, glamorous look.
00:40So you're going to see tons of jewel details, Swarovski everywhere,
00:44metallic accents, all sorts of ornate embellishment.
00:48Danessa is the creative, like, fantasy force behind stuff like this.
00:53Her personality is so bubbly and bright and sparkly.
00:57She's like a ray of sunshine, but don't forget, like, she is, like, a boss.
01:02So we needed to have lots of glitter, lots of things that sparkle and shine,
01:08just like her personality.
01:09I knew that once she was going to be the makeup artist, I was like,
01:11oh.
01:12Oh.
01:13Oh, my God.
01:14I love you.
01:15Oh, good.
01:16It's just so funny that this ended up being the theme, sparkly glittery.
01:19And that's something that I would naturally gravitate towards on my own.
01:22I didn't even tell you guys that's what I wanted.
01:24So you guys totally embodied what I am and what I represent.
01:27So we brought in some silvery tones in the hair and some white tones.
01:32We even did a little bit of lavender because we wanted to make sure that Jackie was the star that she is.
01:38I love when people are like, oh, well, you're just a YouTuber.
01:43And I'm like, well, if it's so easy, why aren't you doing it?
01:46Why aren't you?
01:48You're not exactly.
01:49Okay, thank you.
01:50Now move along.
01:51From day one, like, I always made it really clear.
01:53Like, I always wanted to empower, like, women of color and black women, dark skinned black women.
01:58And it didn't matter to me if that was on YouTube.
02:00It didn't matter to me if that was on Twitter.
02:01It didn't matter to me if that was on Instagram.
02:03Those were just what happened to be available to me at that time.
02:07What is the impact that my videos are making?
02:10How is it affecting people's livelihoods and, like, their moods and their confidence?
02:14That, to me, is what ultimately defines my career and success and things like that.
02:19So if you ask me, I made it, like, four or five years ago.
02:22I didn't have the paycheck.
02:24And that's all right!
02:37¿Qué tal?
02:39¿Cómo, música, música?
02:40¿Cómo, música, música?
02:42¿Cómo, música, música, música?
