00:00We want to do this in honor of Kim and all mothers out there and what better
00:04place to celebrate especially black mothers in Essence. This is my Essence Uncovered.
00:19This moment is special for me and my family because it's the first time you know we've
00:24really spoken about losing a mother and Mother's Day, how you feeling and when something that's
00:32personal you can only tell that to your family. In Essence has been my family since I was like
00:38four years old. Today's been really fun you know to shoot with family. I haven't really had a photo
00:44shoot with my whole family in a long time like we got my Mimi Mama Combs here and my pops my sister
00:50so it's dope. I think with my sons I've been able to look at maybe some mistakes that I've made
00:58because sometimes they would be acting up. I would be like you can't do this and why are you acting
01:03like that? Then they would be like we're just acting like we've seen you acting. I was always learning
01:10you know from the black woman. Just in general they're the best teachers you know. I think with
01:15everything. No matter what it is. The biggest lesson I've learned from black women is just how
01:21to love. Just how to show unconditional love and that feels so good. Like my mom loves me unconditionally
01:27my grandmother loves me unconditionally and it just shows me how to love so when it's my turn to love
01:32I know how to love the right way. My daughters have taught me patience. They've opened up my feminine side.
01:38They really taught me how to treat other women. Like it took me to have daughters to really know
01:45how to treat a woman and I'm still learning. Essence told me the rules and regulations of their covers
01:53which I love. It has to be by a black photographer. To be handpicked by Puff to shoot this cover
01:59was just amazing. It's a dream. I told my team I need you to find me a new young fresh genius
02:07that could like really capture the blackness and the beauty like in a new way for me and a new way
02:13for Essence. It wasn't just like a standard family photo. It was like a whole sneak peek into their
02:18world and how they interact with each other. Me I never really even had a man in my life to be honest.
02:25My father was killed when I was three. The only thing that was by my side through my trials and
02:30tribulations through my dark times was my mother or honestly it was Kim and or my grandmother.
02:37The strength of a black mother could fill that space. Ladies and gentlemen it is a wrap on my Essence
02:45Uncovered. Yeah!
