00:02The new streamer has given a series order to Grease, Rise of the Pink Ladies,
00:06which is said to be a prequel to the beloved musical.
00:09The 10-episode series takes place four years before the original Grease.
00:13For the show's logline, before rock and roll ruled,
00:16before the T-Birds were the coolest in the school,
00:19four fed-up outcast girls dare to have fun on their own terms,
00:22sparking a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever.
00:26The Pink Ladies were portrayed by stalker Channing, Dinah Manoff,
00:30Jamie Donnelly, and Didi Kahn in the 1978 feature film version of Grease.
00:34Rise of the Pink Ladies had a long road to getting the green light at Paramount+.
00:38The show was originally titled Grease, Rydell High,
00:41and scored a straight-to-series order from HBO Max in October of 2019.
00:46However, that series was eventually scrapped.
00:48Writer Annabelle Oakes has remained with the show throughout
00:51and will serve as showrunner for Rise of the Pink Ladies.
00:54Elsewhere, a feature film prequel to Grease titled Summer Lovin' is also in the works.
