00:00Amazon has handed out a series order for its reboot of A League of Their Own, months after wrapping production on the pilot.
00:06Broad City's Abby Jacobson and Will Graham created the hour-long series, which is described as a reinterpretation of the original nearly 30-year-old feature film about the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League that was formed when World War II threatened to shut down Major League Baseball.
00:20The cast of that film included Geena Davis, Lori Petty, and Tom Hanks, among others.
00:32The Amazon Take stars Jacobson and is said to have the spirit of director Penny Marshall's beloved movie while expanding its lens to explore race and sexuality, as the series follows a new ensemble of women carving out their own past in the league and outside of it.
00:44The cast of the new series includes Jacobson, Shantae Adams, Darcy Carden, Bimisola Ikumelo, Kelly McCormick, Roberta Kalindrez, and Priscilla Delgado.
00:54Sources say Graham and Jacobson reached out to both Penny Marshall before her passing in December 2018 and Davis ahead of time to get their blessing for the Amazon Take, which, like the film, will explore themes including prejudice and equality, among others.
