ViacomCBS will reinvent the adult animated series for a new era.

00:00Happy Happy Joy Joy is right. Wren and Stimpy are ready for their comeback.
00:12Nearly 25 years after wrapping its run, Wren and Stimpy is returning to TV. Comedy Central has
00:17greenlit a reimagined take on the former Nickelodeon and Spike adult animated series.
00:22And while details are scarce, the Viacom CBS-owned cable network plans to hire a new creative team
00:28for the update, which will be reimagined for a new generation. The updated Wren and Stimpy show
00:33marks the latest push into adult animation for Viacom CBS Entertainment and Youth Group President
00:38Chris McCarthy, who also greenlit Daria's spinoff Jodie, as well as updates of Beavis and Butthead
00:44and Clone High. In a statement, McCarthy said,
00:46We are excited to reinvent this iconic franchise with a new creative team
00:50and our partners at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio. Wren and Stimpy joins our rapidly expanding
00:56roster of adult animation, including South Park, Beavis and Butthead and Clone High,
01:00as we continue to reimagine our treasure chest of beloved IP for new generations.
01:09Wren and Stimpy followed the adventures of Wren, a temperamental chihuahua and his
01:13dim-witted sidekick Stimpy. The series launched in 1991 as part of Nickelodeon's Nicktoons push
01:18that included Rugrats and Doug. While the series became a pop culture phenomenon and cult favorite,
01:24the network took heat for the show's adult content and lack of educational value. The original series
01:29ran for five seasons and nearly 100 episodes and led to a spinoff geared to more adult audiences,
01:35Wren and Stimpy adult party cartoon, which aired on the former Spike, now Paramount Network.
