Two children are in a critical but stable condition after being rescued from a house fire in North Queensland this morning. Two police officers who put their own lives at risk to get the children out have been praised for their bravery.

00:05Authorities pick through the pieces after the early morning house fire at Bushland Beach in Townsville's North.
00:13The fire was on the bottom floor and all the heat went to the top level.
00:17Four children were inside when the fire broke out at half past five.
00:22Two teenagers managed to escape.
00:24The others, a toddler and a 13 year old, were rescued by first responders.
00:29It's believed no adults were in the house at the time of the fire.
00:33Police officers were the first to arrive on scene.
00:36In a dramatic rescue they scaled the two-storey home and smashed a window to reach the child.
00:41They then performed CPR.
00:43Firefighters managed to retrieve the other child from the home.
00:47The two youngest children were taken to Townsville University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
00:53They're in a critical but stable condition.
00:55Two police officers were treated for smoke inhalation.
00:59The QPS would have been exposed to a lot of smoke and possibly a lot of heat and put themselves on the line to get that casualty out of the house.

01:17Our officers constantly put their own lives at risk for the betterment of our community.
01:23Investigations into the cause of the blaze continue.
01:26But any furtherly, theakow dead will remain a bit depressed to another wife.
