00:20A week ago, grocery shop owner Van Vietrung
00:23was allegedly attacked by five teenagers.
00:26He'd gone to the assistance of another local worker.
00:31Mr Truong died on Wednesday after spending days in an induced coma.
00:36Very gentle man.
00:38And very, as you see, he's always ready to help anyone.
00:43His life is taken away.
00:44It's not fair on us, you know.
00:46We just go out, we're trying to have peace.
00:48The latest crime statistics from March
00:51show Sunshine saw a rise in crime over 12 months.
00:55There's been a lot of shock, a lot of concern about what's occurred.
00:58And people would just like to see an increased police presence
01:02and saw their staff and the business owners
01:05just to feel safer in the community.
01:07There are two distinct groups gathered here in Sunshine today.
01:11Hundreds behind me are demanding tougher action on crime.
01:15Whereas down the road here, there are people gathered to pay tribute
01:19to Van Vietrung outside his shop.
01:21Our community, not that we're not concerned about safety,
01:25not that we're not concerned about the issue,
01:27but there will be another day, another time.
01:30This is a time when the disease is not even bearing.

01:35Today's rally organisers are promising to take their message
01:38to the steps of Parliament.
01:40The Victoria Police have had additional patrols
01:42to drive community safety and confidence in the West
01:46and will continue to do that work.
01:48People just have had enough and we can hear it behind us today.
01:51They want stronger laws.
01:53They want someone who is actually going to end the crime crisis.
01:55Enough is enough!
01:56The demand for more police will continue to be drummed home.
