Both Jimmy Fallon and Trevor Noah suggested Native American nicknames for Trump, whereas Seth Meyers pinched his nose in embarrassment.
Transcript
00:00I almost wish that these gentlemen had given Trump a Native American name and just be like,
00:04we call you dancers with Putin.
00:07After President Donald Trump referred to Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren as Pocahontas during
00:12Monday's event honoring Native American code talkers who served in World War II, late night
00:17hosts addressed the controversial statement and described it as embarrassing.
00:21Here's the moment in case you missed it.
00:23We have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago.
00:28They call her Pocahontas, but you know what?
00:32I like you.
00:33Over on Comedy Central, The Daily Show's Trevor Noah told his viewers,
00:37I know your first instinct is to be disgusted, but we have to give credit to the president,
00:42because at least he did the right racism.
00:44He added, he could have easily mixed up his Indians.
00:46The host also pointed out this detail.
00:49And as if it couldn't be worse, right behind him, there's a picture of Andrew Jackson.
00:54Yeah, that's like inviting the American flag over to your house and having a picture of
00:58Colin Kaepernick on the wall.
00:59It's bad hosting.
01:00That's what it is.
01:01Meanwhile, on NBC's The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon shared the same sentiments as Noah,
01:05dubbing the moment embarrassing and suggesting a Native American nickname for Trump.
01:09And the veterans called Trump by his Native American name, tweets with small hands.
01:14Later on NBC's Late Night, Seth Meyers didn't have the words for Trump's remark.
01:18So he introduced a new segment for his physical reaction, called Eight Seconds of Seth Pinching
01:23the Bridge of His Nose.
01:32The president has received serious backlash over his controversial comment, with Native
01:37American leaders calling Trump's reference to Warren offensive and distasteful.
01:40Warren also spoke out after the event in an interview on MSNBC.
01:44It is deeply unfortunate that the president of the United States cannot even make it through
01:51a ceremony honoring these heroes without having to throw out a racial slur.
01:57White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said making a racist slur was certainly not the
02:02president's intent.
