00:00Did you struggle with that in your sophomore season on the PGA Tour at all?
00:03Just wanting to.
00:05To crave to get into that contention and win golf tournaments?
00:10I don't know if it was necessarily unique to that year.
00:13I think it's something.
00:15That I've probably struggled with since I was a kid.
00:18You know, I expect a lot of my.
00:20Myself, the people around me, and I think.
00:25It's one of those things that does push you forward, but if it gets going the wrong way.
00:30It can do the opposite as well.
00:32So, yes, I did struggle with.
00:35But I don't think it's necessarily unique to that year, and I don't think it really.
00:40Explains kind of the downtick in golf.
00:43I think there's probably.
00:45A bunch of reasons, and maybe that played a part.
00:46But I really don't.
00:48I really don't think that that's it.
00:50Kind of a unique feeling for me for that year.
00:52It's just something I've always had.
00:54I have very high expectations.
00:55Of myself now, you know, as I always have.
00:59And.
01:00I think it's a strength in a lot of ways, but you have to learn to manage it like anything else.
01:04Yeah.
01:05That's what I was going to ask is how have you been able to manage that, you know, over the last couple of years to.
01:10To to to not get too low and or get too down on yourself.
01:13That's something that I.
01:15I was I was my biggest critic.
01:17I was got so frustrated with myself so often.
01:20And sometimes it would it would make me get in my own way.
01:22And so I'm just curious how you've been able to kind of.
01:25Yeah, I mean, I think it's a combination of things for one.
01:30Kind of and not even actively managing the expectations.
01:35But, you know, I had two years, my second and third years on tour, I would classify as.
01:40Mediocre.
01:41Yeah.
01:42You know, I made it to the BMW Championship.
01:45Both times I finished kind of mid 40s and FedEx had a chance to win here and there, but.
01:50Not not not like the first year.
01:52And I think having that experience.
01:55It's kind of and I said this after the Wyndham Championship in an interview was.
02:00I started playing worse golf and I was much more grateful for the times that I was playing well so.
02:05I think taking those opportunities for granted.
02:10Probably doesn't help kind of on the expectation side, you know, if you if you get there and you're like, OK.
02:15This is, you know, it should feel business as usual, but this is what I.
02:20I expect every time.
02:21Yeah.
02:21I don't know if that helps as opposed to.
02:23OK, you know, I'm.
02:25I'm three shots back on on Sunday morning, but this is a great position to be in.
02:29I'm thankful that I.
02:30The golf I have to get here and I'm looking forward to trying my best today, you know, so.
02:35I think it's a combination of that sentiment and then also kind of changing where.
02:40Where my expectations lie, we've worked a lot on that over the course of this last year.
02:45And in terms of just, you know, you could set expectations.
02:50I expect to finish top 10 every week or you could say.
02:55I expect to execute my process to the best of my ability every shot, every day.
03:00And I think that second one is much more effective.
03:03And that's kind of what we've worked.
03:05Is trying to create processes, create belief in those processes and.
03:10Just expect that I can do that because that's in my control.
03:13I mean, you start getting.
03:15Getting angry and getting fast.
03:16Yeah, totally.
03:17That's that is under your control.
03:18You know, have a bite to eat.
03:20Take a breath and kind of go back to the process that you put.
03:25Place for yourself.
03:26So I've tried to change my outlook on that toward things I can.
03:30Control, which is not always execution and results.
03:32It's it's process and preparation and.
03:35If I can do that to the best of my ability, you know, the golf should be good.
03:39Maybe.
03:40Maybe it won't be, but it should be.
03:41And that seemed to play out over the second half of this last year.
03:45Did you ever observe any other players that that you were able to kind of take.
03:50A little bit of something, whether it be that mindset and just being watching somebody just run their.
03:55Process time and time and again and feeling like maybe that they never got too high or too low.
03:59Is there any other.
04:00Players that you felt like you're like, man, I need to just kind of get into a little bit more of how kind of how they.
04:05Run their routines.
04:07Yeah, I mean, there's a bunch to come to mind, I think.
04:10I think Scottie Schaeffler has something special about the mental side of the game, obviously, physically as well, but.
04:15You know, you can't I feel like you can't perform at that level and execute that highly.
04:20No matter what your skill level, unless you are kind of special between here.
04:25So I think, you know, he's someone that I watch and.
04:30And that's all it seems like he does to me.
04:32He doesn't.
04:33I don't feel like he's ever trying.
04:35To do anything special.
04:35I don't feel like he's really ever trying to force anything.
04:38I just see him step up and try to make.
04:40Good swing all the time.
04:41You know, he just easier said than done.
04:43Right.
04:43I mean, it.
04:45It's your head can get in the way.
04:46It's a powerful thing.
04:48But he seems.
04:50He seems to do that better than just about anybody.
