00:00I was interested in what you were saying there a second ago about, like, you think the Warriors are going to do kind of a Niners-level trade deadline.
00:09They'll do something, but it'll be underwhelming, not poppy, not flashy.
00:13You brought up Moses Moody and Buddy Heal.
00:16Right.
00:16By the way, real quick reaction to what you're saying, I think that that's a PR nightmare.
00:22I think what you just described is not a good PR week for the Golden State Warriors.
00:27So you're going to now, you're going to bench Jonathan Kaminga for the better part of the season.
00:32Then he gets hurt.
00:34Now you're not going to trade him after everyone's been expecting that you're going to trade him.
00:38But you're going to go grab one of these kind of popular people over here on the side.
00:43Sure.
00:43That don't make a whole lot of money.
00:45Right.
00:46You got Buttered and you got Moses Moody, who, boy, these two players just never hurt a damn soul.
00:53Right.
00:53And you're going to trade him for what?
00:56For.
00:57What are you getting out of this?
00:58You're probably getting, maybe it's an expiring guy who's making about, Moses makes 11 and a half.
01:04Then it's 12 and a half.
01:05Yeah.
01:06Then it's 13 and a half.
01:07So if you're another team out there and you like the player, then you're thinking, okay,
01:12you can have our vet, because that's all the Warriors have is vets.
01:16Why would they want expiring money?
01:18The Warriors?
01:19Yeah.
01:19I mean, why would you want, I mean, Moses Moody, he's a good player, but you might want somebody
01:24who can help you more than Moses can.
01:26I mean, and you're going to get that to match his $11 million?
01:29I'm just not.
01:30I don't know.
01:31I mean, maybe you aggregate he and Buddy, and now you're looking at 20 million, 21 million.
01:35And the acquiring team wants Buddy and Moses for your 20 million.
01:40You probably want Moses because he's a good rotational player who's at a very team-friendly
01:46price.
01:47And Buddy, I think, has next year and then a player option.
01:51So, yeah.
01:52I hear where you are.
01:56That feels unlikely that somebody who's going to help, and that makes sense.
02:02And from a PR standpoint, you're going to trade away these two strong locker room presence,
02:07not that expensive players, in order to do what?
02:10If that exists, then I'll stand up and say, I didn't see that one coming.
02:14I'm having a hard time envisioning who that person would be.
02:18I'm preparing myself for the three things we just threw out.
02:23Warrior deadline next Thursday.
02:25What do you fans want to see?
02:26A big swing?
02:27Kind of a middle swing, like what Dibs is saying.
02:30Yep.
02:30Or what I'm going to vote for.
02:32No swing.
02:32No swing.
02:33Yep.
02:33I don't, like, why?
02:35Why?
02:36What are you, what is this like?
02:38What are you chasing right now?
02:39Jimmy Butler got hurt.
02:41You're chasing next year.
02:42That's what you're chasing.
02:43Well, then deal with that in the offseason.
02:44And you can.
02:45And that's, I think.
02:45That's what I would do.
02:46I think that that is the most likely thing, because, you know, Mike Dunleavy doesn't come
02:51out and talk about demand unless there actually is no demand.
02:56Like, I think that that comment, as we get further away from it, when he said, you know,
03:00to make a demand, there has to be demand.
03:02Why would he do that if there actually was demand?
03:06I think that that would kind of, like, ruin their ability to trade Jonathan Kaminga.
03:10And so, he said what he said.
03:12Kaminga played.
03:13Kaminga got hurt.
03:13And so now, for me, the whole idea of Kaminga being traded at the deadline, it's not off
03:18the table, but it's a lot less likely, in my opinion.
03:21I agree with you.
03:22I still think that there's a decent chance of it, because I think this whole, like, I just
03:28think it's a big old smokescreen from everybody.
03:30I really do.
03:31I think this idea that the rest of the league is not interested, I don't agree.
03:35I don't believe it.
03:36I don't believe it.
03:37But maybe.
03:38But even if the league is kind of interested, that does not mean that there's a great deal
03:41for the Warriors to make.
03:43And I think the Jimmy Butler injury takes the urgency out of this.
03:46This may really tick off Jonathan and his agent, Aaron Turner, because I know they badly
03:51want out.
03:52But if I'm the Warriors and there's no good deal right now, there's no urgency to do this
03:57and not freak it out to go win a championship.
03:59You're not that close.
04:00I would be ready to hold on to him and deal with this in July.
04:07Yeah.
04:07Here we go again.
04:08Another summer of, hey, Jonathan, you know, we want to sign and trade you.
04:13We want to give you a deal.
04:14Instead of just us picking up your option, we're going to tear up the option and sign
04:19you to three years and whatever, and we're going to trade you somewhere.
04:23How's that sound?
04:24I'll tell you what.
04:25This is a horrible comp because nobody wants to hear about, you know, when you're comparing
04:29an NBA athlete that makes millions and has tons of fans to somebody in our industry or your
04:35industry.
04:36But like this industry, I've had this happen to me multiple times, multiple times where
04:43a boss would sit there and be like, we're doing this and it's going to be within the
04:47next two to three months.
04:49Now it's going to be the next two to three weeks.
04:51Right.
04:51And a year later, you're still sitting there looking at the boss like, so how about now?
04:56Yeah.
04:57Working on it.
04:58I mean, you got to deal with this.
05:00Companies do this to employees.
05:02They just do.
05:04And I know we don't think of it the same way when it's somebody who makes 22 and a half
05:08million dollars a year and is high profile.
05:11But yeah, the Warriors can do this if they want.
05:14They can absolutely kick the can down the road yet again.
05:17And I think they will unless they come up with a deal that they actually love.
05:20And that makes the most sense for them because the more I was thinking about it today is
05:25there's no trade out there that gets them from where they are.
05:29Jimmy's hurt.
05:30Steph and Draymond are declining.
05:32There's no trade out there that gets you from where you are to, oh my God, they might
05:37do it this year.
05:38But is there something you can do to get a little bit better now and then get in the
05:42offseason, find something to do with Kaminga, and then you get better in the offseason and
05:47then Jimmy Butler comes back?
05:48Yeah, that to me is the most likely route that they should take.
05:53And that is, it's unfortunate because if you're a now person, it's not going to be now.
05:58No.
05:58Yeah.
05:59And that's, that's like all of this is a hard pill to swallow for everybody, Jonathan included.
06:04Hassan in Dublin.
06:05Again, would you like to see the Warriors make a big swing, a mid swing or no swing?
06:09Hey, Hassan, thank you for calling.
06:11What's up?
06:11Hi, thank you very much for taking my call, an average listener for a long time.
06:18I think Warriors should do a mid swing.
06:20I personally feel very strongly the best trade out there is Wiggins.
06:29We should get him back if we can.
06:31It's an even trade for Kaminga.
06:33Kaminga will thrive in Miami under Spostra coaching.
06:37And Warriors will get a player that is plug and play.
06:41He can get the rebounds.
06:43He is defensive, a good enough defensive player.
06:47And he can give us 16, 17 points a night.
06:50That's, that's my thought.
06:52It's, it doesn't take away any picks from Warriors.
06:55I think they can swing that.
06:56That's it.
06:57But, yeah.
06:58But, yeah, Hassan, thank you.
07:00It might.
07:01I don't think Kaminga and Wiggins is a straight deal.
07:05I don't, I don't, I don't think Miami will do that for a straight deal.
07:08They'd be like, why?
07:10Why?
07:10Like, Andrew Wiggins is really producing this year.
07:14So, I think that they would ask for you to attach a pick or more capital or whatever.
07:20I'd also say, by the way, that's flirting with not being a mid deal.
07:25That's a pretty, like, I get that it's not.
07:26That's a big deal, yeah.
07:27It's not Giannis, but that's a, that's a large deal.
07:30Jonathan Kaminga and whatever.
07:32And Andrew Wiggins is coming back.
07:34We're talking about players that are making in the 20s.
07:36I understand.
07:37We're not talking superstars.
07:39But that, that's, that's at least medium large.
07:43That, that, that deal.
07:44Yeah, and it would have to be bigger because Trade Machine says this trade failed.
07:49Right.
07:49Wiggins is making 28.
07:51Kaminga's making 22.
07:52No, the Warriors would have to throw in more.
07:54Right.
07:54I even threw in Melton into the mix and you still need to cut another 84 grand from what
07:59comes back.
08:00So, you'd have to kind of juggle the money.
08:02It would have to be Kaminga and more than just that.
08:05Huh.
08:06What's Melton make?
08:07Melton makes the minimum.
08:08Three million.
08:09Three point oh eight oh.
08:11That's it.
08:12Okay.
08:13Well, I mean, see, that's where you could probably, what is, wait a minute.
08:18Kaminga plus Melton.
08:20Is 20, just short of 26 million.
08:23Kaminga's making 22.5.
08:25All right.
08:26Does it work if instead of Melton you put in Buddy and a pick?
08:30Right.
08:31I mean, the picks you don't have to put in, in the machine.
08:33It's just all about the money.
08:34Right.
08:34I'm just telling you, you'd have to put in a pick.
08:36Like, you're asking Miami to take.
08:37Probably, yeah.
08:38Does that work?
08:39Kaminga and Buddy, sure.
08:40For Wiggins?
08:41Oh, yeah.
08:42It works?
08:43Boom.
08:43You got a green?
08:44Kaboom.
08:45Hey.
08:46Yeah, the analysis is the Warriors projected wins go down by 11.
08:52Hi, this is Andrew Wiggins.
08:54Wow.
08:54I played great for two months, and that's about it.
08:57See, and I would argue that in this moment, I understand it scratches the itch of we want
09:02to see something happen, but that deal, I find that's pointless.
09:08What does that do?
09:09How many more years has Wiggins got on the deal?
09:13He's got two more years.
09:14Two more years after this one?
09:16I believe so, yeah.
09:17Or this one and one more?
09:20Yeah, it's a great question.
09:22I appreciate that.
09:24Now, I think it's a significant thing, because the Warriors do not want to take on money beyond
09:28next year.
09:28Wiggins has a player option for next year.
09:30Oh, thank you.
09:31Just for next year.
09:32Yep, that's it.
09:32Okay.
09:33$30 million player option.
09:36I mean, I'm listening.
09:38Right.
09:39I'm listening.
09:39I don't know who the hell you need to cut next year in order to make that all work.
09:43So next year, you got Steph making 62.
09:46Jimmy's making 57.
09:48Day Day's making 28.
09:49So that right there is a clean 145, plus Wiggins is 30.
09:54But you're off Kaminga and Buddy, who were going to make that much.
09:58Kaminga, not on the books for next year.
10:00It's a team option.
10:01Right.
10:02So, and Buddy's making nine.
10:04Yeah.
10:04So.
10:05I mean, it's a team option.
10:07You can pick it up.
10:09Right.
10:10Well, that would be a sign and trade, I think, in the offseason is what, you know, the most
10:14likely thing would be for Kaminga.
10:15You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ FM and HD1 San Francisco and Odyssey Sports Station
10:20in the home of the Golden State Warriors and Valkyries, always live on the free Odyssey app,
10:24coming to you live from the Laughing Monk Studios.
10:26Nick Friedle with the latest on the Warriors, the trade deadline, the health, and whatnot,
10:31all coming up in exactly an hour.
10:33I'm sorry to be out here waving a flag for something that I'll admit is wildly boring.
10:41Wildly boring.
10:42But, yeah, I kind of think I don't think the Warriors should do anything at the trade
10:47deadline.
10:48I'm sorry.
10:50I just don't.
10:50I don't.
10:51It's like we all agree.
10:53Every time deadlines come up, you'll hear fans and media and teams themselves say this.
10:58Well, we're not going to do something just to do something.
11:01I think if you do something this year, you're kind of doing something just to do something.
11:05I don't know what the point is.
11:07If what you're trying to do is move Jonathan Kaminga because you feel like there is an
11:11actual good deal, there's a player who can help you that fits better, that's what I'm
11:16open to listening to.
11:18But, for instance, your idea of let's move Buddy and Moody for some other human being,
11:24I'm like, I don't know.
11:25Like, why?
11:26It depends who it is.
11:27I mean, Buddy basically doesn't really play much anymore unless you have six guys who are
11:33out due to injury management, and Moses Moody is, he's the guy who he's going to be.
11:40He's not a high-ceiling guy.
11:42He's got a good high floor, and this is Moses Moody, which is why he took a three-year, $39
11:46million deal.
11:48He's a guy, and if he's in your starting lineup, if he's in your finishing lineup, you're probably
11:53not a great playoff championship kind of contender, but he's a good, solid player, so
11:59maybe you can get something for him.
12:01I mean, here's the other reality to this.
12:03For those of you who love to go, hey, Joe Lacob is a billionaire, and he thinks big.
12:10You're right.
12:11He does.
12:12But understand something.
12:13Mike Donleavy already said publicly, we do not plan to trade Jimmy Butler, when that's
12:19not how we're going to react to his injury.
12:20Now, maybe he's lying.
12:22Maybe he's lying.
12:23But he has stated, the plan is for Jimmy to rejoin us next year when he's healthy and
12:28give us a boost for the second half, for the latter two-thirds of the season.
12:34If you don't trade Jimmy Butler, if you keep Jimmy Butler, you are eliminated from going
12:39to get another max player.
12:40That's not like you can't even, there's no way for the Warriors to make that fit.
12:45They could renounce the rights to the rest of the roster.
12:48So they could get...
12:49I mean, you could move Draymond and Kaminga, and that gets you $53 million for next year,
12:53roughly.
12:54Still not to Giannis yet.
12:55Yep.
12:56And by the way, to then fit things in going forward, yes, that's it.
13:01Like, the rest of the roster's gone.
13:03And I know there's some of you out there going, fine by me, but literally.
13:06I mean, like LJ Cryer and nine more of them playing with Giannis and Jimmy or Steph.
13:15And by the way, I don't even know if that works.
13:17Like, that's what it would look like.
13:19Like, this is why I said a year ago and got social media slapped in the face for three
13:24weeks.
13:25You hate to see it.
13:25I'm not interested in Giannis.
13:27It's not because I don't like Giannis.
13:28It's because it doesn't make any sense.
13:31It makes no sense.
13:33All of you out there are like, you pair Steph with Giannis?
13:36Then, yes, that's two people.
13:40Then what?
13:40You pair Steph with Giannis, then what?
13:42Finish that sentence.
13:44What?
13:44Then you cook.
13:45You got Jimmy, and it doesn't matter who else you have.
13:47No, no.
13:49Pods and TJD and Post and Gi.
13:51Gone.
13:52They're not all gone.
13:53Gone.
13:54No, you're wrong.
13:55No, I'm not.
13:56Look it up.
13:57I'll trade machine it right now.
13:58Do the numbers.
13:59I've done the research.
14:00It's no one.
14:02Gone.
14:03It's not no one.
14:04So you're saying if you keep Jimmy.
14:06I'll read it to you.
14:07I literally, you talk for a second.
14:08I'm going to pull this up.
14:09I did this.
14:11I went to our capologist.
14:13Talk for a sec is all I ever do.
14:14Yeah, do it.
14:15Go ahead.
14:15I just did.
14:16That was a sec.
14:17I do a sec at a time.
14:20All right.
14:21I can tell you this.
14:22I asked.
14:22Rutgers is pissing me off.
14:24I asked about Giannis on May 27th.
14:28Okay.
14:28To an unnamed capologist.
14:32Here's the response.
14:33They could do either Steph for Giannis or Jimmy for Giannis.
14:37You want to do either of those?
14:39No.
14:40Okay.
14:41Number two.
14:42Any other option includes aggregation.
14:45You know what that is?
14:46Yeah.
14:46It's a lot of players.
14:47Combining contracts to go get Giannis' salary, which locks in a second apron hard cap at $207 million.
14:55They can do it if the team's roster of 14 minimum players doesn't exceed that.
15:03If they're sending out less than Giannis' salary, then they have a first apron hard cap at $196 million would have to be within 125% of the outgoing $54.1 million.
15:19Giannis, Steph, minimum players.
15:22Draymond, Kaminga, Buddy for Giannis.
15:25They're not doing that.
15:26It's done.
15:27Green check.
15:29It's done.
15:30So, you don't have to trade eight guys.
15:33You just trade those three.
15:35Done.
15:36Done.
15:37Giannis and Guy and Quentin and Will and Brandon and Jimmy and Steph.
15:44Who says no?
15:45Oklahoma City says no.
15:47They cook that team.
15:48Denver cooks that team.
15:50This team gets cooked anyway.
15:52But why are we doing it then?
15:53What are we doing then?
15:55What are we doing then?
15:56Hold.
15:57We're going to hold.
15:57I'm holding.
15:58I know you're holding, but you get to the offseason.
16:01You've got no one to hold him and no one to fold him.
16:02I'm saying you go get Giannis now anyway because he's got a calf issue and calves are tricky
16:06as we know.
16:07He's not getting traded right now.
16:08No, he's probably not going to play again for the Bucs.
16:10Probably not.
16:11You're probably right.
16:12Put him on ice.
16:13GPD's in Hayward.
16:14Hi, GPD.
16:15What are you doing?
16:18Okay.
16:18God.
16:20I'm sitting in somebody's toilet.
16:22Oh, my goodness.
16:23You all right, Grandpa?
16:25I'm sitting here.
16:26Yeah, yeah.
16:27I'm in here.
16:27I'm putting a new fluid in after.
16:29So, you know, on the toilet thing that's inside that you've got to adjust it.
16:33Oh, yeah.
16:34Okay.
16:34And all that.
16:35So, GPD.
16:37Oh, oh, oh.
16:38Time out.
16:39So, you're working on a toilet.
16:41You're not on the toilet.
16:42Because if you're on the toilet, like, just say so and we'll put you on hold and go to
16:47another caller.
16:48He's on the toilet working on the toilet.
16:50Toilet.
16:51I'm on the toilet working on the toilet.
16:53I don't talk in the toilet.
16:54That's right.
16:54Okay.
16:55Exactly.
16:55All right.
16:56All right.
16:56Fire away, GPD.
16:57What do you want the Warriors to do?
16:58I'm trying to figure out what do they want to do.
17:04You want to give Steph another title.
17:07But now that Jimmy went down.
17:09So, do you make a big swing?
17:11Or do you wait until the offseason and make the swing then?
17:17That's the whole thing of this all.
17:19He's in Inga.
17:21And I know it's hard because everybody's like, oh, he doesn't want to be here.
17:25You know what?
17:26Unfortunately, bro, this is business.
17:28You're a commodity.
17:29I'm sorry, bro.
17:30If we don't want to get rid of you, we don't have to.
17:34Am I right?
17:36That is correct.
17:36Yes, you are correct.
17:37That is absolutely correct.
17:41Okay.
17:41So, in the offseason, you make the big swing in the offseason.
17:45And you just keep them and ride out the rest of the season with what you've got and make
17:52the big swing in the offseason.
17:53What do you guys think?
17:55I'm with you, GPD.
17:57I mean, I'm not like with you on the toilet right now.
17:59Oh, yeah.
17:59But like, I'm with you.
18:01Thanks, GPD.
18:01You better be careful, man.
18:02No, I'm not.
18:03I'm here.
18:04I'm here.
18:04Whispered tones from Grandpa Daddy.
18:06Yeah.
18:06I mean, Guru did a show from a bathroom yesterday, but not now.
18:10We're not doing that right now.
18:11That's right.
18:12Yeah.
18:12A little bit of Jim Nance there in the Grandpa Daddy call.
18:14Hello, friends.
18:15We're here on the toilet just outside the 11th Green.
18:18I think I'm with him.
18:20I just, and again, there's a big piece of me, right?
18:24We're doing sports radio.
18:26I'd love for the breaking news sounder to hit next week while we're out there on Radio
18:29Row at Moscone Center.
18:31And they can tell me that Jonathan Kaminga has been dealt and the Warriors are getting
18:36some, thank you, like a really interesting player in return who they want to use.
18:41Right.
18:41Nothing against Jonathan, but like someone who they want to use that fits.
18:45If that were possible, then yes, do it.
18:50I don't know that that's out there, and there are a bunch of things that have led that to
18:56not being out there and available.
18:58Part of it is sitting him on the bench, but the Jimmy Butler injury is a huge part of this.
19:04And so it's like, don't deal just to deal.
19:08And he can deal.
19:10He will deal with staying.
19:13I think he'll be really ticked.
19:14Well, he's got no choice.
19:15And I'm sure he's already somewhat ticked.
19:18And, you know, you can judge it by the fact that he comes out for warmups 90 seconds before
19:22the game starts and shoots two jumpers and starts juggling the soccer ball and sits down
19:27there with his warmup on and doesn't get to play for weeks on end.
19:31So, yeah, of course, he's going to be quote unquote ticked.
19:34And the good news for Kaminga is he's still young enough to go somewhere else and have a
19:39career.
19:40Tim in San Diego next up.
19:42Hi, Tim.
19:43What's going on?
19:45Hey, what's going on, guys?
19:46How you doing?
19:48Real good.
19:48Real good.
19:49So, yeah.
19:51So, anyways, yeah, I say just stay pat.
19:56There's nothing you can get for Kaminga.
19:58There's absolutely nothing you can get for him.
20:0116 deals.
20:02There's no market for him.
20:05I mean, we're basically going to put a Band-Aid over a bullet hole.
20:09I mean, this thing now is we got to look towards the future and start building like OKC, San
20:17Antonio, and we got to go young, and we got to have at least something compelling on the
20:22court.
20:22And I'm ready to invest in young guys and energy and pace of play.
20:29Draymond's declining.
20:32Kurt can move on to many more things now.
20:36It's time to – that ship has probably sailed, too.
20:39So, I'm ready to go, you know, for the next five, ten years, and let's start building towards
20:46that.
20:46Tim, thanks.
20:47Appreciate it.
20:48I just think that the hardest thing for all of us to do – maybe not the hardest.
20:52One of the hardest things to do in life as human beings is wait.
20:56We hate it.
20:57We hate waiting.
20:59Very, very impatient, and I'm not calling anybody impatient who thinks that the Warriors
21:04should have done something by now.
21:05I get that, but, like, it sucks to wait, but it's probably the right thing for the Warriors
21:10to do right now.
21:11You have no choice.
21:12You're pot committed, and your phrase you used last week, and that's where you are.
21:15You got Jimmy, and you're paying Draymond, you're paying Steph, and so you're going to
21:19try to surround them with the best that you possibly can without mortgaging the future.
