00:00is this idea of whether it's tank, whether it's the draft, whether it's the play-in tournament,
00:05whether it's make the playoffs. All of these things sort of land in the same bucket.
00:10This is partially my sense amongst Warrior fans, and it's partially sort of even my thought process.
00:18And quite frankly, I'm a little tired of it. Like the Warriors play here in a little bit over three
00:24hours.
00:25And I would really like to sit down and watch the game. I'd like them to win, and I would
00:33like me to want them to win.
00:35I would like to care. And I think what I'm saying is that I do, but I don't really sense
00:43that a lot of people share that.
00:47And I'm tired of that already. I'm just not here for this brand of Warrior basketball.
00:57Again, I don't think the Warriors are participating in it. I do think that a lot of people viewing them
01:01are.
01:02I actually find a big difference between the 8 and the 9 and the 10.
01:06I think if you realistically want to come out of this tournament, you better not be the 10.
01:11But some people actually don't want to come out of the tournament.
01:14They would like them to be the 10. Yeah, Ramona just said that.
01:17And they would like them to lose and get the highest pick possible.
01:20But just in a functional day-to-day sort of a way, I hate this.
01:26Yeah.
01:27I cannot stand that they're practically tied at half against the Hawks.
01:33And then two minutes into the third quarter, they're down by 87 points, and everyone's like, eh.
01:41Like, I just, I don't like it.
01:42I don't like it either.
01:43I don't enjoy this.
01:44But it's the reality of where they are.
01:45Like, oh, so they go out and they win tonight.
01:47Okay, good win.
01:48And then you're still the 10.
01:50And then you win again, and you're probably still the 10.
01:52And maybe you climb up to 9, or heck, maybe you get to 8.
01:55Well, then let's go.
01:57Right.
01:57I mean, it's always let's go.
01:59But you're down to 11 games left in the year, and you've got 33 wins and 38 losses.
02:04And so you're heading toward a certain spot.
02:06Is this team with their relative unhealth going to be able to go win, play in, win, play in,
02:12upset, and roll and ride?
02:14And so I'm with you in the macro.
02:17In the micro, yeah, I want them to go out there and win tonight because I'm a fan,
02:21and I'll watch the game.
02:22And I don't want them to lose because I never want them to lose.
02:24But it's hard as a fan going through what we've gone through to look at what they have
02:29right now.
02:30And it's, you know, Leon's, and it's Yurt 7.
02:33And I thought over the weekend, like, what if Yurt actually was 6 and his name was 6-7?
02:39Please don't.
02:40I had to.
02:40Why are we doing that?
02:41Because I hit me over the weekend.
02:42Because his name is Yurt 7, and that's the man's name.
02:46So we're talking about Leon's and Spencer and Yurt 7 and all the rest of the fellas.
02:52And D is a starter.
02:52So, yes, you want them to win, but then you look at, like, what's going on,
02:57and you realize that this team, as it currently is, they're not good enough to beat a lot of teams.
03:03But that's too logical for me.
03:05I don't want, like, if we're doing logical, why do we even care about this in the first place?
03:09We're not doing logical, but when you're a fan and you watch it, like, I'll watch tonight,
03:13and I'm not thinking, yeah, you know, you're at 7, double-double, they're going to win.
03:17You're thinking, this Warrior team is like a 13 seed going up against a 4 seed.
03:22Yeah, see, no.
03:23There's a chance.
03:23I'm not thinking that way.
03:25No, that's a great comp that you just had.
03:28Did you see?
03:29And, in fact, I was still here for it.
03:31Remember when we played the interview with the high point coach?
03:34Yeah.
03:34After they won last Thursday?
03:36That dude was ready to punch a brick wall.
03:40Yep.
03:40Do you think he thought they were going to win the national title?
03:43Of course not.
03:44But they were a 12 seed, not a 13.
03:46Whatever they were.
03:47The 12s win a lot more than 13s.
03:48They do, but, like, I guess I'm saying you probably have a great rational point mathematically
03:56and based on analytics and the real world and all these things,
04:00why the Warriors should just stay in the 10, get their butts kicked in Portland,
04:05go home, and get the 12th pick in the draft.
04:08You're probably right.
04:09I don't care.
04:10I don't care.
04:12I just don't have that in me.
04:14I don't have it in me to watch the Warriors and think to myself,
04:19you know what, it's probably better if they lose.
04:22It actually pisses me off when that thought goes through my own mind.
04:27I piss myself off if that thought goes through my mind.
04:32I don't ever, ever want to watch a Warrior game and be like,
04:36yeah, you know what, it's probably better if they lose.
04:39But if you look at the team they're facing tonight, they did exactly that.
04:43I know.
04:44And they got Cooper Flagg.
04:45Well, but that wasn't the strategic way.
04:47And they got Cooper Flagg.
04:49Well, actually.
04:49They went from, you know what, we want to fight for the play into, you know what,
04:53white flag, hello lottery, and then they won.
04:56You're blending years.
04:57That was the year before that Dallas did that.
05:00Last year, they just traded Luka, and then Anthony Davis got hurt,
05:04and they ended up in the lottery.
05:05It was the year before where they actually openly stated like they benched
05:10all their dudes down the stretch in order to miss the play-in tournament.
05:13But I hear you.
05:14Yes, teams do it.
05:16Yeah.
05:16And I don't like it.
05:17I don't ever.
05:18I just, I love.
05:20You don't have to like it.
05:21Yeah, I don't like it.
05:22I mean.
05:22I just don't want to do that.
05:24That's unfun to me.
05:25And I want to watch the game and listen to it tonight on my way home
05:28and have them, you know, fight like heck to beat Dallas and, you know,
05:32go from the 10 seed to the 10 seed and, you know, hopefully get Steph back.
05:36And Chris Stapps, I guess he's probable tonight.
05:39He might actually play.
05:40So there are still brighter days ahead, as we like to say.
05:43But the bigger picture is, like, what are we doing?
05:46But the small picture is, I'm with you.
05:48Like, go out there and win.
05:49Yeah.
05:49I want you to win.
05:50You're my team.
05:51I want you to win.
05:52Like, actually, somebody's texting us right now, like,
05:55begging us to talk about the Sharks.
05:56All right, let's talk about the Sharks.
05:58They've lost three games in a row at an incredibly crucial time.
06:02And, oh, by the way, if they sneak into the playoffs,
06:05they ain't drinking from the cup this year.
06:08Easy.
06:08They're not.
06:10So why do we even want to make it?
06:12Let's get a better draft pick.
06:14I know you've had a bunch of good draft picks lately.
06:16Let's do it again.
06:18Let's do it again.
06:19Why?
06:20What's the point?
06:22Why are you Sharks fans even happy?
06:25You're not going to win the whole thing.
06:27They might.
06:28They're not.
06:29Eight seeds have a better chance in hockey.
06:31Let's be real, Gibbs.
06:33I get your point.
06:33Keep it real.
06:35Why do we want to make the playoffs if we're not going to win the whole thing?
06:40Because you want your young core to actually get playoff experience.
06:43That's why.
06:43Is that not true for young Warriors, too?
06:45It is in a much, much, much lesser way.
06:48Why?
06:48Because your young core is not their core.
06:51I don't even know if they have a young core.
06:53They've got Pods and Gee and a guy named 6'7".
06:57In theory, at some point when the Warriors are, you know, relevant again,
07:02when they can get all of these bloated old people off of the roster,
07:05I'm being sarcastic, but once they can do that,
07:08wouldn't it matter if the people who are left on the team
07:11have had playoff experience before?
07:13If you have a Macklin Celebrini, like, you've got Pods and Gee.
07:18What if they get that person at number 12 this year in the lottery?
07:21Well, then we're not talking about next year.
07:22We're talking about this year in the playoffs.
07:24No, actually, we're talking about two to three years from now.
07:27Wouldn't you want the young players on the team to have had some playoff experience?
07:31Depending on, like, who you get and when you get them, yeah.
07:34Yeah.
07:35We're talking about right now, this year's team.
07:37I know.
07:37You do not have Macklin.
07:39You've got Pods and, I guess, Gee.
07:42I mean, in theory, you could have Steph when you get there.
07:46But not now.
07:47No, but that doesn't matter.
07:49The point is now, like this year.
07:51Yeah, this year.
07:52You could still make the playoffs and have Steph Curry and Kristaps Porzingis on the team.
07:56Right, but they're not part of your young core.
07:58And that's the point about the Sharks' comp is the Sharks, you want your young core that you actually have,
08:04you want them to get a little taste of the cup.
08:06And so is true for the Warrior, other players, too.
08:10The Pods and the Moody's and the Gee Santos' people who will be on the team for potentially years to
08:16come.
08:17Sorry that I just made everybody spit in their mouth because of the idea that Pods might spend his whole
08:21career here.
08:22I'm just saying, one of my biggest points about this is the Warriors haven't done anything different.
08:31We have.
08:32I don't care if it's rational.
08:36I don't love the idea of rooting for your team to not make the playoffs.
08:42I would like to see what happens.
08:44I would like to see Steph Curry and Kristaps Porzingis against the Thunder or the Spurs.
08:49Yes, I would like to see it.
08:50Yes, it would have to be the Blazers and then maybe the Clippers.
08:54Right.
08:54Yeah, I'm into it, too.
08:56I would like to see it.
08:57But I wonder if the Warriors aren't doing things in a different way.
09:00And you pointed that out earlier, your theory, like, you know, Steph is, you know, didn't scrimmage in another 10
09:07days.
09:07And it's 10 days.
09:08It's 10 days.
09:09And, you know, you got Al.
09:10Oh, boy, that's going to be a week.
09:11And Moses, go ahead and take your time.
09:13Meanwhile, it's Leons and you're at seven and Spencer and all the fellas.
09:18Let's go to Tom and Alamo.
09:20So, hey, Tom, thank you for calling.
09:22What's up?
09:24I just wanted to say I don't want to make anyone feel bad.
09:28But the Warriors are, in fact, tanking.
09:31Anytime you lose consecutive games to teams that are trying to lose and you can't beat them, you're tanking.
09:38And the issue, or it's even worse than tanking in the sense that, okay, maybe they're not trying to tank.
09:45They're really trying hard and they still can't beat a team that's trying to lose.
09:52That's worse than tanking.
09:54It's not good.
09:55I don't know what to say about it any further than that, but it's not good.
10:00They're probably worse than tanking.
10:03Well, thank you, Tom.
10:05You're not tanking if you're just terrible.
10:08Like, and right now the Warriors, with what they're putting out there on the regular, they're not a good enough
10:12team to tank.
10:13Okay, but see, here's where it does, I think, get intricate.
10:17Tom's also not wrong.
10:19Like, how do we separate these things?
10:21We have branded certain teams as tankers.
10:24Those players are trying.
10:26When Utah, Utah played.
10:29Chicago played.
10:30The players play hard.
10:33The same way we say the Warriors players are playing hard.
10:36Tanking is not done on the court.
10:39Right.
10:40Tanking is done in the front office.
10:41So, when you say, hey, Utah's tanking, I think that's the easiest example.
10:46Utah and Memphis are the greatest examples of the year because we watched them actually go into the fourth quarter
10:52of close games,
10:53in some cases where they were winning, and they pulled their best players off of the floor,
10:59and they wouldn't put them back in the game, and they would lose.
11:02I don't think you'd ever see the Warriors do that,
11:04but the Warriors have pulled their best players off of the floor with back spasms,
11:10and then just had them disappear into the back room for weeks at a time.
11:14Al's got a calf, and, you know, Steph has runner's knee.
11:18Runner's knee.
11:18Moses has a wrist.
11:19We don't know what it is.
11:20How do you read this update today?
11:22Steph did not cross the hurdle in order to scrimmage, but no setback.
11:29Wait, wait, but no step forward either.
11:32No step back, but no step forward, exactly.
11:33So, could I say that that is a step back,
11:37and could I argue that on some level you're not tanking,
11:41but you're like, you're being a little passive.
11:44For sure.
11:45You're not being intense about winning tonight.
11:47You've lost 8 of 10, and you are the 10.
11:50Like, if you were fighting for the 8 or the 7 seed,
11:52maybe he is suddenly able to get out there and scrimmage,
11:56but you're not, and so what's the point?
11:58And they can't say that.
11:59Of course not.
