00:00Victory Thursday? This season is not over yet! It's not over yet. I love it. How great was that?
00:08The play-in, am I right? I mean, you tried to tell me all day how great yesterday was gonna
00:13be,
00:13and I wouldn't listen to you. I didn't know that cockamamie was Portuguese for awesome,
00:18because that was, I mean, that was flat-out awesome, and, you know, you watch it, and I
00:23couldn't help but think, like, okay, they're down 12. Oh, they're down 3. They're down 10.
00:28They cut it to 4. It's back to 11. Like, can we, I mean, can we stop, either get blown
00:33out, or get the lead?
00:34I'm like, yep, it's just like they couldn't kill him, but it felt the whole time like,
00:40They couldn't kill him.
00:41But one of these 13-point leads is gonna turn into an 18-point lead.
00:45Or?
00:45Or, you know, like, one of them is going to.
00:49Or, every time the Warriors would cut it to 2, it's like, hit the big, get a defensive stop and
00:54hit the button.
00:55No, no, 5-0 run, Clippers, boom, you're down by 7 again.
00:58Right.
00:59It's just, and then all of a sudden, it happened at the freaking end.
01:03Al Horford.
01:04Wow. The old man comes in and does that.
01:09But, look, today, as we said, I think Guy Santos is probably gonna call in, I don't know, whenever the
01:14hell he calls in.
01:15It'll be a little bit later.
01:17But we'd really love to hear from you Warrior fans today.
01:20And it's almost just like the most open-ended, largest question that anyone's ever asked you.
01:24What do you want to say about whatever?
01:27Like, just honestly.
01:28Way to really pin it down.
01:29I mean, but, like, that's what I want.
01:32I would love to know what is on everyone's mind today.
01:35Like, what do you want to trumpet?
01:38Do you want to point out a certain player, a certain play?
01:41How about more of an umbrella view on this whole thing?
01:44Do you want to do a mea culpa?
01:46Because there are thousands of you listening right now that said this was just a fool's errand.
01:52And some of you may still think that it is.
01:55There's probably some of you that are like, I know this person's out there.
01:59Hey, here's a split-the-difference deal.
02:02You could do what happened last night and still get in the lottery.
02:06Oh, I like what you're saying.
02:07Go out there and lose tomorrow night.
02:08I promise you, some of you feel that way.
02:10But this is just a day to sit in the hot tub of joy.
02:14And I want to highlight one of our friends.
02:19This is how you become a great, truly great sports writer.
02:23So, earlier today, my class at Cal Poly is on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
02:30Earlier today, this morning, I was lucky enough to get one of our colleagues, if I'm even allowed to call
02:37her that, to be a part of my Zoom.
02:40Okay.
02:41And talk to the students at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
02:46She is the multi-time California sports writer of the year, Ann Killian.
02:50Ann Killian, okay.
02:51It's nice enough to come on.
02:54This was set before we knew what last night was going to be.
02:59And so, she hops onto the Zoom.
03:01And Cal Poly students are all Californians.
03:02So, they're either like Laker fans or Warrior fans.
03:05And a good portion of our Warrior fans.
03:07So, they're buzzing.
03:08And everybody kind of wants to just do the like, wow, how about last night?
03:11And Ann, in one sentence, was able to encapsulate this whole thing.
03:18And I just thought this was simple, but so brilliant.
03:22Ann goes, well, last night was the answer to all things.
03:27To all things.
03:29Yeah.
03:29To all questions.
03:30Not all questions.
03:31Right.
03:31Not like, you know what I mean?
03:33Dad, how are babies made?
03:34No, that's not the answer to that question.
03:36I mean...
03:36Although, some might have been made last night.
03:38Right.
03:38But, what I mean is, and what she meant was, all of your Warriors...
03:44No, don't talk about that.
03:45We won't.
03:46All of the Warrior questions.
03:49Why did Steph battle to come back?
03:53Why?
03:55Why is Steve Kerr still coaching?
03:57Why is Draymond still on this team?
04:01Why are you guys on this ridiculous sort of journey about the past?
04:08Why, why, why?
04:10Why did you Chris Tapps, Porzingis, pods, minutes?
04:15Why?
04:16And she goes, last night.
04:20That's why.
04:21It was the answer to all Warrior questions.
04:26And I thought, for me, that was better than anything I had thought of since last night happened
04:33in terms of how to sort of put a perspective on what took place last night.
04:39Right, and the perspective is, you know, in and of itself, small, because it's the play-in tournament,
04:45and you still have to win another one to get the number one seed, and you might not win the
04:48title, blah, blah, blah.
04:49And we can talk about all those different perspectives all we want, but you think about what I was saying
04:55last night in our thread.
04:57That really is the good stuff.
04:58And if you were at the pick-at-the-stick game, Navarro Bowman takes it all the way back to
05:02the house,
05:03and that was not a Super Bowl.
05:05That was not a game that led to a Super Bowl, but that was a moment, and that was the
05:09good stuff.
05:09I happened to have left eight minutes earlier and heard the roar from the parking lot, but that's on me,
05:13and that's not for today's show.
05:15But you can think about other moments that were not championship caliber,
05:20that were not necessarily leading to a title, but they're super memorable,
05:24and you think that is, in and of itself, the good stuff.
05:28I love it.
05:29And, you know, Al and Steph and everybody last night, you mentioned it, eight guys played,
05:33and, you know, DeAnthony and GP2, they were good.
05:36They were not bad.
05:37They were both good defensively.
05:38They were both really good.
05:39They were both really good defensively.
05:40But the highlights are going to be the highlights, and ultimately, history will look upon that as,
05:46wow, what an amazing game, but it was the 10 versus the 9.
05:49But I think you bring up a good point, and our minds can start racing over all of the things
05:54that we remember in sports, memorable, awesome moments, things that you'll remember forever
05:59that had nothing to do with a championship.
06:01Yep.
06:02Nothing.
06:03How about JT Snow's home run against the Mets, puts the arm up right inside the foul pole
06:08at Oracle Park?
06:09Terribly disappointing series loss.
06:11Giants should have won that series.
06:13Right.
06:13They didn't.
06:14They lost it.
06:14But that was a moment.
06:16That was a moment off of Benitez.
06:18We can do that with, you know, obviously, the 49ers, the Warriors.
06:24A lot of these moments aren't always tied directly to a championship.
06:31How about game six, Klay?
06:33Right.
06:33Anybody know what happened in the next round?
06:36Boom.
06:36I know.
06:37Blocked it out, Mark.
06:38Yeah.
06:38Right.
06:39But these are still iconic moments.
06:42Even Steph and the 50 burger in Sacramento.
06:45100%.
06:45They get on the bus game.
06:46So, like, I know that it challenges our sensibilities.
06:49On one hand, yeah, the Warriors are still just 38 and 45 and still have to do this again
06:54tomorrow night.
06:55And it feels almost like denigrating to celebrate something like that.
07:00But I don't know.
07:01But that's not the way my brain thinks.
07:03My brain is just like, I am still absolutely sitting at the end of that game in front of
07:12the TV staring up at that box in amazement, that was not, at any point in the night, what
07:20felt like was about to happen.
07:22And I think to anybody who said over the last six months, hey, anything to get Steph on the
07:29floor, because when that happens, you never know what's going to happen, number one.
07:34And number two, we just don't know how many more times we're going to get to see it.
07:38I think you, if you said that or felt that at any point over the last six months, you
07:42get today.
07:44You get a victory lap today.
07:45Because last night was one of those moments.
07:48And I don't care if this sounds like milk and cookie or campy.
07:53Last night also, with what's going on in the NBA this year, like, makes me thankful that
07:59that's the team that I root for.
08:01Because they try.
08:02Yeah, they try.
08:03They freaking try.
08:04When their uniforms are on, they try.
08:06And go back to last week when Draymond Green post-game was saying, you know, I'm not going
08:10to go to sleep tonight and dream about how excited I am for the playing game.
08:14I mean, this is now.
08:15And, you know, that'll be then.
08:17And when that comes around, you know, we'll get up for it and we'll compete because that's
08:21what we do.
08:21And you watched him last night defending like an absolute maniac.
08:25And the fourth quarter, he is just haranguing and harassing Kawhi everywhere.
08:30He shut down the claw.
08:32Two great late steals.
08:33And that whole Steph and Draymond, like, pass and screen and run and pass and screen and
08:38bump and grind.
08:39And earlier in the game, in the fourth quarter, I had to tweet out Draymond's screen because
08:45that back pick he set, and I'm trying to remember who he screened.
08:47Granny will remember because he remembers everything.
08:49But he absolutely destroyed that clipper.
08:53I think it was Derek Jones Jr.
08:55At half court.
08:55Yeah.
08:56He just set a legal back screen.
08:58He hits him so hard that he has to, like, half hold him up on his way to the ground.
09:02And then he let him go gently.
09:04And it's like, these guys want to win.
09:06So good.
09:07Listen, I hope Bob Fitzgerald's not listening because he'll hate this because I know he does
09:11the whole, like, 92% of America's not on Twitter.
09:15Social media was not just fun, but funny last night.
09:20Wow.
09:21Depends.
09:21No, you did it.
09:22It was wonderful.
09:23It was great to see what everyone was saying in the second and the third quarter that they
09:27had to go take back.
09:28Tell everybody your Al Horford Twitter experience.
09:31First of all, I didn't ever take it back, nor would I.
09:33And I'll explain.
09:34No, but you can.
09:35It's not take it back, but you can add something to it.
09:39What's up, Bay Area?
09:40It's Al Horford.
09:40Yeah, Al, I love you.
09:42But what I said, it must have been in the probably middle of the third quarter.
09:46I said, Al Horford needs to be out of this game.
09:49Yep.
09:49And I was right.
09:51And within seconds, he was out of the game.
09:53And then he comes back in the fourth quarter and it's bop, bop, bop, bop, bop.
09:57And he hits four in a row.
09:58And I retweeted myself and said, Al Horford has got to stay in this game.
10:02He's got to get back in this game.
10:03And so everybody, like, immediately, oh, this didn't age well.
10:07This didn't age well.
10:08You need to delete that.
10:09First of all, no.
10:11Second of all, he did have to go out of that game.
10:14And he did.
10:15And he got rest.
10:16Older guy gets rest, comes back in and plays well.
10:19So all you who tried to come at me in my mentions, you're the problem, not me.
10:24And take it back.
10:25I was right.
10:26But it's still funny.
10:28It's just that's why I retweeted myself.
10:30Exactly.
10:31It's funny.
10:31I saw this because I do.
10:33I hopped in at about halftime.
10:35It's just I'm like, I want to see what people are saying.
10:37I also ended up on Twitter because we were out at a bar.
10:40And when Steph goes to the locker room, it's the first thing I try to do.
10:44I'm like, what slates and what are they saying?
10:46You know, what's going on?
10:47And so I was on there a couple of times.
10:49And I want to highlight one, especially because he circled back after and made fun of himself,
10:55which is great.
10:56Like, I don't give you all want to come at people, but then, like, be self-deprecating
11:01after.
11:02Then that's great.
11:02But hello, Professor E. Handy on Twitter, 9.13 p.m. last night.
11:09He tweets directly at me and says, I do not want to hear you spin this loss as a positive
11:21tomorrow.
11:23We are trash.
11:25Say it.
11:26Own it.
11:27Time to move on.
11:299.13 p.m.
11:32It had to be about, probably late third, mid to late third quarter.
11:38At 9.47 p.m.
11:40Yep.
11:41I quote tweeted and said, what about now?
11:45Ooh, what about now?
11:46And then he tweeted back and he's like, sorry, I messed that one up.
11:50I was wrong.
11:51My fault, my fault.
11:52I just thought the whole experience was kind of fun.
11:55It was very fun.
11:56It was pretty funny.
11:57Other than the six or seven people I had to block based on pod slander.
12:03There was always that.
12:03There was always that.
