00:00In the meantime, of the 21 crew members of the MV Devon Bay, which left Zamboanga del Norte port over a month ago to deliver a huge cargo of nickel ore to China,
00:10only 15 crew members managed to return standing and walking after a terrible sea mishap last January 22nd.
00:18Our Bernard Ferrer has more on the crew, though still being searched at sea,
00:22and the rare yet spontaneous and praiseworthy display of assistance with the Chinese Coast Guard in the West Philippine Sea.
00:30Shortly after 5 a.m., the Philippine Coast Guard or PCJ vessel BRP Teresa Magbanua docked at Pier 13 in the port area of Manila,
00:39carrying 15 Filipino crew members of the cargo vessel MV Devon Bay.
00:43Also aboard were the remains of two of their colleagues who died in the sinking of the ship.
00:47The incident occurred on January 22nd, approximately 141 nautical miles west of Sabangan Point in Agdo Bay, Pangasinan.
00:55The MV Devon Bay was carrying an estimated 55,000 metric tons of nickel ore when it deported Gutalak-Sambuanga del Norte, bound for Yangjiang, China.
01:04A total of 21 Filipino crew members were on board the vessel.
01:08During the search-and-rescue operations, 17 crew members were rescued.
01:11The PCJ assured that search-and-rescue operations will continue through the deployment of BRP Cape San Agustin and a PCJ Islander aircraft to locate the four missing crew members,
01:22including the ship's captain, who was praised for his heroism.
01:24The PCJ also expressed his gratitude to the China Coast Guard for an assistance provided during the search-and-recovery operations.
01:43We thank the China Coast Guard for also listening to our call for conducting the search-and-rescue operations themselves and for the very orderly handover of the survivors and the deceased persons.
01:56Initial investigations indicate that cargo liquefaction caused a shift in the vessel's load, compounded by the unfavorable weather conditions at the time of the incident.
02:06Meanwhile, the Department of Migrant Workers, or DMW, said it will provide psychosocial interventions to the surviving crew members.
02:14Bernard Frey from the National TV Network for noon and better full beats.
