00:00Good Sunday morning, everyone. Welcome to Sunday Morning Futures. Thanks so much for
00:11joining us. I'm Maria Bartiromo. Today, breaking news on another deadly battle with Border Patrol
00:17after a border agent fatally shoots a Minneapolis man. Now Minnesotans are braving sub-zero
00:24temperatures to protest, resist and stop Border Patrol agents in their city. Coming up, FBI
00:30Director Kash Patel on the fallout, an investigation underway. Plus, winter weather expected to crush
00:37cities across the Northeast. It may look like a winter wonderland in some parts of the country
00:41this morning, but is it poised to turn into a mess later on? We're in the elements this morning with
00:47a report on what's being called a colossal storm coming of 2026. Plus, President Trump dominates
00:54the conversation in Davos, Switzerland at the World Economic Forum. What he told me about his
00:59plans for Greenland coming up. Also ahead, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and
01:04Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn are here on Jack Smith and the Democrats' efforts to stop
01:09Trump at all costs. Plus, Government Accountability President Peter Schweitzer on the impact to
01:15America's number one adversary, Communist China. It's all right here right now on Sunday Morning Futures.
01:28And today, breaking news of another fatal shooting by Border Patrol as DHS says agents tried to disarm
01:35an individual resisting their operation. The very latest coming up. But first, the massive winter storm
01:41that's impacting over 240 million people across 40 states with heavy snow, crippling ice and dangerous cold
01:49temperatures. During the overnight hours, the South and mid-Atlantic regions bore the brunt of this storm,
01:54which has now made its way to the Northeast and New York City. Meteorologist Adam Klotz with now the latest
02:00forecast. Adam, good morning to you. Good morning, Maria. We have continued to track a massive storm system.
02:05You were talking about some of the locations being hit. It's widespread. It is in New England.
02:09It is in Mid-Atlantic. It is still snowing and raining and sleeting back across portions of the
02:14extreme south as well. These are some of our big totals we've seen so far with this system,
02:18but we're really just getting going. This is going to continue all day. On the high end, 14 inches of
02:23snow. You've seen eight inches of sleet. Nearly 800,000 folks are without power. And most of those power
02:29outages are because of ice. Three quarters of an inch might not sound like a lot, but that is enough to
02:34bring down power lines. That is enough to bring down trees. And that is going to be the major concern.
02:38Everything you're looking at here in the pink, in the purple colors, that continues to be more ice
02:42that is falling. And that is going to ultimately affect power more. This is still the ice yet to
02:47come. You see where we're talking about Nashville up towards Lexington, getting over into the
02:51Carolinas and Virginia, all areas where heavy ice is still on the way. That's what's taking down
02:56power outages. And when you lose power, you lose heat. And unfortunately, for days to come,
03:01this is now tomorrow morning's forecasted lows. You're going to be seeing really cold temperatures.
03:05So it could be a dangerous situation. Four degrees in Oklahoma City, eight degrees in Little Rock.
03:10We're going to be looking for the next several days anyways, where those temperatures are going
03:13to be very cold. On the front edge of this entire storm system, you're now beginning to see snow
03:18along the I-95 corridor. So from D.C. up to New York City, Boston, all now beginning to see some of
03:24this snowfall. We'll get decent snowfall totals right across that area, particularly getting up into
03:30the Boston area. These purple colors are where the snow will be the heaviest. In some cases,
03:34a foot and a half to two feet of snow ultimately coming down New York City, probably more in the
03:39eight to maybe 12 inch range for total snowfall. But this is another area taking you all the way
03:44till Tuesday morning. Behind all of this snow is going to be some really cold air. Folks are going
03:49to be waking up across the Midwest, even into New England, negative three in Boston, five in New York
03:54City, closer to negative 20 there in Detroit. And as we know, it's been so cold in the upper Midwest,
03:59negative 14 degrees in Minneapolis. This system is something that's going to be lasting through
04:04Monday. And then that cold air is going to be sticking with us for at least a week, Maria.
04:08All right, Adam, thanks very much. We'll be watching that. It sure is cold out there.
04:11Meteorologist Adam Klotz. We will have more continuing coverage on this massive winter storm
04:16coming up in the program. But now this breaking news this morning from Minneapolis after a border
04:21patrol agent shot and killed an armed man during an operation against an illegal immigrant
04:27wanted for violent assault. According to Homeland Security, during the operation,
04:32an individual identified as 37 year old Minneapolis resident Alexi Preddy approached a group of
04:39border patrol officers with a nine millimeter semi-automatic handgun and then violently resisted
04:45arrest when agents tried to disarm him, resulting in a federal law enforcement officer firing
04:50defensive shots. DHS says Preddy was announced pronounced dead at the scene. Besides the semi-automatic
04:57handgun, Preddy had two magazines and no ID on him. Here's Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noem last night.
05:04This individual showed up to impede a law enforcement operation and assaulted our officers.
05:10They responded according to their training and took action to defend the officer's life and those of
05:17the public around him. And I don't know of any peaceful protester that shows up with a gun and ammunition
05:25rather than a sign. This is a violent riot when you have someone showing up with weapons
05:30and are using them to assault law enforcement officers.
05:35Minnesota state and local officials, however, are disputing this account from Homeland Security.
05:40Following the shooting, protests erupted in the streets of Minneapolis with the Minnesota State Patrol
05:46declaring an unlawful assembly. Joining me now with more on the investigation is the director
05:51of the FBI, Kash Patel. Director, thanks very much for being here this morning. And I know that this is
05:58a DHS investigation, but there is outrage across the country that there is another killing.
06:07Someone is dead at the hands of Border Patrol. What can you tell us?
06:12Great to be with you, Maria. And look, Secretary Noem stated it perfectly. You do not get to attack
06:18law enforcement officials in this country without any repercussions. You do not get to do that in
06:22Minnesota, L.A., or anywhere else. And the interagency is leading the charge out there. We've already
06:27arrested with the interagency those that violated the FACE Act and impeded a peaceful prayer in church.
06:33We've already just last night arrested four more individuals involved in the damage of government
06:38property that we saw the videos of online. We've arrested other individuals who've made threats to
06:44law enforcement online. So we are not messing around. It doesn't have to be in person. If you threaten
06:49law enforcement officials or civilians, we are going to come find you. And as for this latest shooting,
06:54yes, DHS and HSI are the lead and the FBI is processing the physical evidence. So we're in possession of
06:59the firearm, which is going to go to our laboratory. But as Secretary Noem said,
07:02no one who wants to be peaceful shows up at a protest with a firearm that is loaded with two
07:08full magazines. That is not a peaceful protest. And you do not get to touch law enforcement.
07:14You do that anywhere. This FBI is going to be following the leading the charge to arrest those.
07:18But how was he threatening Border Patrol? You've collected the evidence, you said,
07:23right? You have the handgun in your possession. That's right. And how was he using that handgun in
07:30terms of threatening Border Patrol? What was the threat? He had his camera, right? He was filming it.
07:36That's something that I let the DHS and the prosecutors, because they are the ones investigating
07:39that case. I don't want to stylize that evidence. But I trust the men and women on the ground who are
07:44trained professionals to only use it when it's absolutely necessary. And I trust Secretary Noem's
07:48leadership and DHS and HSI to do the right thing, as they've always done in these scenarios.
07:53Kristi Noem said that the individual approached U.S. Border Patrol officers with a nine millimeter
07:59semi-automatic handgun. Was the gun visible or did Border Patrol see the gun after they shot him?
08:07Dr. Again, all those pieces of the investigation are being led by DHS and HSI. And I don't want to
08:13comment on their ongoing investigation. I understand. But you have the evidence. What
08:18can you tell us about the evidence you collected? It's sent to our FBI laboratory where it'll be
08:23fingerprinted. We'll use ballistics examination toolkits to see if any any casings were fired,
08:29and we'll examine all the casings that were found on the scene.
08:32Dr. How much of this has to do with some of the rhetoric in your view? Just two weeks ago,
08:40the governor, Tim Waltz, told residents to get their phones and start filming
08:47whatever is happening and when they see Border Patrol. Listen to this. This is just two weeks ago
08:51from Governor Tim Waltz. Watch.
08:53If you see these ICE agents in your neighborhood, take out that phone and hit record.
09:00Help us create a database of the atrocities against Minnesotans,
09:05not just to establish a record for posterity, but to bank evidence for future prosecution.
09:13Your reaction?
09:16I think that type of rhetoric is exactly what's leading to violence against law enforcement that
09:21is totally baseless and unnecessary. And for the state CEO to do that against our law enforcement
09:26community is disgusting and revolting. And it should be examined thoroughly as to anyone who's
09:31involved in inciting this type of violence. It is absolutely improper, unlawful and will not be
09:36tolerated any type of violence against law enforcement. But it's not stopping. People are mad at ICE and
09:44want Border Patrol to stop. You saw what's happening right now in Minneapolis. People are protesting in the
09:50streets pushing Border Patrol out. How will this end?
09:55This will end thanks to President Trump's brilliant leadership to always back the blue.
10:00Law enforcement will hold the day. The Constitution, the rule of law will hold the day. It is a tough
10:05time right now. But I believe that our law enforcement officials on the ground, DHS, FBI, local police force
10:11across the country are moving in the right direction. And we will quell these riots and we will prevail.
10:16That's what we always do. And what are you looking at when you're investigating or probing
10:22the evidence that you've collected? What specifically are you looking for?
10:27At this point in this part of the investigation, it's mostly scientific evidence. We're looking
10:30for fingerprints and DNA and how many rounds, if any, were fired and any other sort of physical
10:36evidence in and around the firearm. And, you know, I mean, thousands of people are marching
10:40through Minneapolis. They are targeting the Border Patrol. I mean, it feels like the rhetoric and the
10:49the protesting is only ramping up. What is your advice to the people right now who are outraged that
10:55this is a second killing at the hands of Border Patrol in two weeks?
10:59I guess Christie said you cannot bring a firearm loaded with multiple magazines to any sort of
11:06protest that you want. It's that simple. You don't have that right to break the law and incite violence.
11:12We will, of course, always protect your First Amendment speech. And if you peacefully protest,
11:16there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. But you have seen a trend here, not just in Minnesota,
11:21but across the country in these protests turning into violent scenarios and people attacking law
11:26enforcement. That's when you go over the line. And that's when law enforcement steps in.
11:29Well, you also have Democrats in general criticizing Border Patrol. It's not just the people who are
11:36protesting this. You've got the Department of Justice serving grand jury subpoenas to Minnesota
11:40Democrats in this investigation of obstructing ICE, according to reports. What can you tell us about
11:46that? That is a very much ongoing investigation that we are actually involved with and leading out
11:52on. So there's really not much I can say, but I can tell you this generally. How do you do an
11:56investigation? You can make a demand for records when you believe that there's probable cause that
12:00laws have been broken and you make a demand for records of those involved. And in this case,
12:03that's exactly what we did of every elected official that was involved. And then the next process,
12:08generally speaking, will be we'll be putting people in grand juries. That's what happens in
12:11these investigations. Director, let me switch gears. You've also been taking down some of the most
12:17wanted fugitives and you've arrested a leading a list of them. Tell me what you've been focused on
12:24and how you've taken down these fugitives. Yeah, thanks to President Trump's amazing leadership
12:30and protection of law enforcement. And thanks to our great partners at the Department of Justice.
12:35This year, the Attorney General and us, we have arrested in the actually in 2025,
12:41we arrested and captured four top 10 of the FBI's most wanted four. And to put that in perspective,
12:47in the Biden administration, they had captured four in four years. These are the worst of the worst,
12:51the gang bangers, the murderers, the drug dealers, flipping the 2026. In just the last week and a
12:56half, Maria, we have seized, I was just down in Mexico this past week, we have apprehended two
13:01more of the FBI's most wanted fugitives, including Ryan Wedding, who was a Canadian Olympic snowboarder
13:07turned into the modern day El Chapo. And after a year long campaign and manhunt to go and get this
13:13guy, we went down there to Mexico to advance our investigation. Huge thanks to President Trump again
13:18and the Department of Justice and the Mexican government and our ambassador, Ron Johnson,
13:21down there. This type of work takes a full on interagency assault. It takes relentless pursuit
13:26to make sure that these individuals never harm Americans again. And while we were down there,
13:30we also apprehended another top 10 most wanted fugitive, Alejandro Castillo, who brutally, brutally
13:36murdered a 22 year old first generation American over a decade ago in North Carolina. Collectively,
13:41these six of the top 10 have been on the run for 50 years, half a century. And under President Trump's
13:47leadership, they have nowhere to run. That is just amazing interagency law enforcement and the FBI
13:52is leading that charge and we're happy to bring them home. Director, what can you tell us about
13:56potential outside agitators in some of these stories? We're going to talk with Peter Schweitzer
14:02coming up and he's out with a book on how Mexico and some other adversaries are using immigration to
14:08undermine the US. Is that part of your investigation? Any, any, any person that breaks the law or impedes
14:17law enforcement anywhere in the world will always become a part of our investigation.
14:21And just look at the historic year that President Trump has brought Americans this year. We've had
14:25a 200% increase in the FBI's arrest this year alone. 67,000, a 200% increase. Of that, let's break
14:32down the numbers. 37,000 of those were violent offenders. That's 100% increase from last year alone.
14:38We've seized enough fentanyl to kill two, excuse me, we've seized enough fentanyl to kill 150 million Americans,
14:432,000 kilos, up 31%. Espionage arrests are up 35%. We found and rescued over 6,000 children,
14:50up 22%. We've dismantled 1,800 criminal gangs, the Trendyiragos and MS-13s of the world, up 25%.
14:57Human traffickers, we've arrested them at a greater clip to 15%. And child predators, there's more child
15:03predators behind bars last year than ever before in the year prior. And we've done it while moving our
15:08headquarters building, shutting down the Hoover building this year, saving the taxpayers $5
15:13billion. And we're going to relentlessly pursue justice thanks to President Trump and the Attorney
15:17General and add more top 10 captors than we've already done. Six in one year.
15:22Yeah. I mean, Director, somehow, you've got to get together with the President's detractors,
15:30whether it is on the Democrat side or not, to ensure that we don't have mistakes like we've been seeing,
15:37so that we are actually seeing what you're talking about, taking down people who deserve it and not,
15:43in fact, getting people who are in the middle of fire and in the middle of these operations.
15:49Why is it that everything you've just said, the Democrats do not agree in terms of the President's agenda?
15:57Well, the Democrats are just upset that it was President Trump that delivered this historic
16:03year in law enforcement, this historic, literally record-breaking year for the FBI. And if anyone
16:08else had done it, they'd give them credit for it. But that's how shallow and superficial they are.
16:11We are going out there with our state and local police officers across the country. These numbers
16:16are historic from coast to coast, not just in one conservative town in Texas, but literally from New
16:21York to LA and everywhere in between. And President Trump gave resources that were needed to law
16:25enforcement back the blue. We have an attorney general who is relentlessly prosecuting these
16:29individuals. And all the Democrats want to do is argue. But we put up a posting every single day
16:34over the holiday season for every Democratic district who is yelling at us about failing them.
16:38We have increased arrests in every single district of every single Democrat that continues to criticize
16:43this administration on law enforcement. These numbers don't lie. You can't reduce the murder rate
16:47in America by 20 percentage points to an all-time low in the modern era unless crime is going down.
16:55Director, thank you. We will be watching your work. FBI Director Kash Patel.
17:00Thanks so much.
17:01Thank you. Next, from homeland security to national security, with tensions spiking with Iran
17:06as President Trump sends an armada toward the Middle East to be ready for any escalation with Iran.
17:12After securing a new framework for a bigger presence and potential oversight of Greenland
17:17to bolster America's defense against China and Russia. The President and NATO Secretary General
17:22Mark Ruddy agreeing to a framework at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland,
17:27which is where I caught up with the President in an interview which aired first on Mornings with
17:31Maria on Fox Business on Thursday. Here's the President on the so-called art of the deal and
17:37the strategic importance of Greenland to America. We're getting everything we wanted, total security,
17:45total access to everything, have as many bases, have all the equipment that we want. And very
17:53importantly, you know, we're building the Golden Dome, we call it. It was called the Iron Dome. Somehow
17:57the Golden Dome sounded a little bit better, but we have a technology that's second to it. And you saw
18:03what we did with Israel. And that's our genius that did that. And it's amazing. It's just, you know,
18:09it's foolproof. And we're going to be building it. And it works much better when we have access to
18:14Greenland. It just covers more territory, covers it more accurately. And missiles will be more
18:19accurate by having it. It's very important strategically as a piece. And we will have all,
18:24everything we want. We're getting everything we want at no cost.
18:27So the Golden Dome will be on Greenland? A piece of it, yes. And it's a very important
18:33part because it's everything comes over Greenland. If the bad guys start shooting,
18:38it comes over Greenland. So we knock it down. It's pretty infallible. It's amazing. You know,
18:44Ronald Reagan had the idea a long time ago, but we didn't have any technology at that point. The
18:49concept was great, but there was no technology. Now we have unbelievable technology. I mean,
18:54virtually a hundred percent. So because the GDP of Greenland is like 3.3 billion dollars,
19:00but people are valuing Greenland of between 50 billion and almost a trillion. So what are you
19:04willing to pay for Greenland? Well, I'm not going to have to pay anything. We're going to have total
19:08access to Greenland. We're going to have all military access that we want. And we'll have more on that
19:14story as it develops. My thanks to President Trump. Quick break. And then coming up, former special
19:20counsel Jack Smith publicly testifies in front of Congress about his investigation into President
19:25Trump and president's supporters. Senator Marsha Blackburn was one of eight Republican senators to
19:30have her phone data seized by Jack Smith without her knowledge. She'll join us with reaction as we
19:37continue to monitor this massive winter storm that is stretching over 2000 miles across the country.
19:42Stay with us. We'll be right back.
19:43I stand by my decisions as special counsel, including the decision to bring charges against
19:53President Trump. Our investigation developed proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump
20:00engaged in criminal activity. If asked whether to prosecute a former president based on the same facts
20:07today, I would do so regardless of whether that president was a Democrat or a Republican.
20:15And that's former special counsel Jack Smith testifying before the House Judiciary Committee
20:20on Thursday, saying that he had no second thoughts for the way he handled his investigations into President
20:24Trump and the president's supporters. Following the hearing, President Trump posted on Truth Social
20:29this quote, based on his testimony today, there is no question that deranged Jack Smith should be
20:36prosecuted for his actions. He destroyed the lives of many innocent people, which has been his history
20:41as a prosecutor. At a minimum, he committed large scale perjury, writes the president.
20:46Joining me now with reaction to that and the DHS involved fatal shooting is Tennessee Senator
20:51Marsha Blackburn, who was one of the senators whose phone records were targeted
20:55by Smith. Senator, thanks very much for being here this morning.
20:59Good to join you, Maria. And indeed, what we saw with Jack Smith before the House committee
21:05was he tried to go in there and gaslight the American people. What we do know is that not only the
21:11senators, but 400 conservative individuals and groups, whether it was the RNC or Turning Point USA
21:20or the Republican attorney generals or Citizens United, they got phone records, they got bank records. We
21:27need to know exactly what Jack Smith got on each and every person that they were surveilling.
21:38How will you do that? What are your next steps?
21:42You know, Maria, we are going to have the telecom companies before us at Senate Judiciary
21:48in a couple of weeks, and you're going to see a series of hearings from Senate Judiciary.
21:54It is important to build out this record. And we also know that DOJ and their investigations there,
22:03it's important to do discovery. I want to know exactly what he got. Did he get the content of my phone
22:11calls, of my emails? Did he get bank records? What did he get of other people? Because Maria,
22:18if we do not unravel what happened with Arctic Frost, they are going to do it again. And the American
22:26people and conservatives in this country, all Americans need to know that the federal government
22:34is not going to be weaponized against them because someone views them as a political opponent.
22:42Yeah. Well, look, we are we are watching this conspiracy for the last 10 years continue in
22:49terms of President Trump's detractors trying to stop him. Do you believe that the agenda will be
22:56upended because of some of these things? For example, some of your colleagues in the Senate
23:00said that they are not going to move any nominations forward because of a probe of Jay Powell. What are
23:06your expectations on the president's agenda being upended by his detractors?
23:13They are going to try this. You know, they've got Trump derangement syndrome,
23:18and they've got a terminal case of it. And it doesn't matter if it is Jack Smith or Greenland or
23:25ICE, they have their hair and their pants on fire. And they just cannot stand that Donald Trump made
23:34promises. He is keeping those promises. He is making the country safe. He is getting to the bottom of
23:42how the federal government was weaponized against the American people against him against 400 conservatives
23:51and getting this getting to the bottom of this. And you know, it's like a Tennessee and told me this
23:57week. They want us to investigate. They want to see people prosecuted. They are tired of the left using
24:06the government to to go after conservatives and nobody ever paying for the dirty deeds that they have done.
24:16Yeah, I understand that. But at the same time, Senator, we are right now fresh off of another killing.
24:22A man is dead in Minnesota at the hands of Border Patrol. There is massive outrage across the country
24:29because of this. Your reaction and as an elected official, what can you do to bring the country
24:35together to ensure that your detractors, Democrats who are critical of the Republicans work, that they
24:43understand what you are trying to do in terms of weeding out criminals from this country?
24:48Indeed. And the Democrats left the border open. You have all these individuals that came in. All loss
24:58of life is to be mourned. And everyone mourns this loss of life. And Maria, as I have looked at what
25:06has happened in Minneapolis, I think about the difference that we see in Memphis, where crime has been cut in
25:14half over the last 120 days. They've made about 6,000 arrests and they've rescued 142 missing children.
25:24Now, you've got a mayor, governor, police chief, sheriff that are working with the federal government
25:33agencies. There are over 20 agencies there and they have cut that crime rate in half. And Memphis
25:39is safer today. Now, apprehending these individuals, deporting these individuals that are here and have
25:49committed these crimes is important to do. And we all know that there is a lot of conversation about the
25:59the uptick around ice in Minnesota. We know that people are saying, are they using this to deflect
26:08from the outrageous amounts of fraud that they are being investigated for right now?
26:14Senator, let me switch gears. You are in Tennessee this morning. We are
26:17watching reports of power out for hundreds of thousands. Roadways snarled with ice is dangerous.
26:23Weather hits this storm. A colossal storm is how it's being described. What can you tell us? How are you doing?
26:30Well, the power went out at my house just as we were getting ready for this and we're trying to
26:39the generator did not kick on. So we're working on that. We're quite concerned. And I've been talking
26:46to mayors across the state, the mayors of our counties. It seemed that everyone made it through
26:53the first phase yesterday with the freezing rain and sleet. I'm sitting here at my home listening to
27:01trees that are popping and coming down. We hear the roads are treacherous. It is going to, it's about
27:1030 degrees right now, but it is going to freeze. It is going to be down around zero. And the next couple
27:17of days are going to be incredibly dangerous. I encourage everyone to stay home, stay safe, stay
27:26warm, stay off the roads. Do not get out unless it is absolutely necessary. I do know that our
27:35shelters are open. Our mayors have warming stations open. Tennessee Emergency Management is working on
27:44this situation. So everyone stay safe. All right, Senator, as to you as well, stay safe. Thanks
27:50very much for being here. Marsha Blackburn. We'll be right back. Stay with us.
28:00Welcome back. We continue to monitor the massive winter storm impacting two thirds of the country
28:04this morning. CB Khan is live in Hoboken, New Jersey right now outside. CB, good morning to you.
28:10Hey, Maria. Good morning. You know, New Jersey Governor Mikey Sherrill has told people to stay
28:17at home and stay off roadways and take a look. Here is why it looks pretty dicey out here. And in fact,
28:24Maria, I just saw a somewhat of a close call between a driver and a snow plow. So it's really important
28:31if you can to stay at home and let the the ice trucks and the snow plows do their important work
28:37to try to make these roadways as safe as possible. You know, Maria, New Jersey could get up to 14
28:42inches of snow over in New York City leaders. They are expecting anywhere from eight to 12 inches.
28:50This massive winter storm is going to be a huge test for newly elected Democrats in the region to
28:56include New Jersey's governor and New York City Mayor and Democratic Socialist Zoran Mamdani.
29:02Mamdani said yesterday that five people were found dead in the city and the official causes of death
29:09haven't been ruled yet. But right now we're told the cold weather could be linked.
29:15It will be colder than any sustained period that New York has experienced in about eight years. But New York,
29:22whatever comes for it, this city is ready. Over the past days, city workers have worked
29:28tirelessly to prepare our city for the snow and for the cold.
29:35There has been so much preparation in both New York and here in Jersey for this wintry weather.
29:44Officials told us to expect wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour here in Jersey today. And Maria,
29:50it certainly feels like that is beginning because as you can probably tell, the snow is coming down
29:56very steadily and it's hitting me in every single direction. We're going to keep an eye out on this
30:01wintry mix. Back to you in the studio. All right, CB, stay safe. CB Cotton this morning in Hoboken.
30:07Thank you so much. Meanwhile, fallout this morning continues after another fatal shooting by Department
30:14of Homeland Security agents in Minnesota on Saturday. U.S. Border Patrol shot and killed an individual in
30:20Minnesota after they said he approached agents and he was armed with a handgun and he resisted when
30:27officers tried to disarm him. The incident, the second fatal shooting in Minnesota after agents
30:32shot and killed Rachel Good on January 7th. Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz called the shooting horrific on
30:39social media and he is calling on the White House to stop its immigration operation in Minnesota.
30:44Joining me now is the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Kentucky Congressman James Comer.
30:49Mr. Chairman, thanks very much for being here this morning. Thank you for having me, Maria.
30:53Another individual is dead at the hands of Border Patrol. Let's be clear. We do not know if there was
31:01any pushback from this individual who was armed. We do not have evidence that he was waving a gun,
31:08doing anything to threaten Border Patrol. He had his phone and he was shooting. He was viewing and recording
31:18the incident. That's what he was doing, recording the incident. What is your reaction? And you are
31:24an elected official. What can you do about it? Well, look, I don't think there's any question a
31:29majority of Americans want President Trump and ICE to go in and apprehend the criminal illegals.
31:35That's what President Trump campaigned on, and he's doing exactly what he said. I look at what happened
31:40in Minneapolis versus what happened in Washington, D.C. When President Trump set the National Guard
31:45into Washington, D.C. The mayor, Mayor Muriel Bowser, supported that. She worked, her local law
31:52enforcement worked with the president, and in a short period of time, they have really been successful
31:58in reducing the amount of crime in Washington, D.C. That was a big success. Fast forward to where we
32:03are in Minneapolis. We have a governor, an attorney general, and a mayor of Minneapolis who are getting
32:09people jacked up, trying to get them convinced that this is some type of illegal raid, that all
32:17their lives are threatened, and they've got all these white liberals coming in trying to run over ICE,
32:22trying to spray them and do everything to disrupt. And if I were President Trump, I would almost think
32:29about, okay, if the mayor and the governor are going to put our ICE officials in harm's way, and there's a
32:36chance of losing more, you know, innocent lives or whatever, then maybe go to another city and let
32:42the people of Minneapolis decide, do we want to continue to have all of these illegals? Are we going
32:46to allow our governor, attorney general, and mayor to get away with this? And I think the people of
32:52Minnesota would rebel against their leadership, because it's very clear that a majority of Americans
32:58want the criminal illegals apprehended, and that's what ICE is trying to do.
33:01Do we know that ICE saw the gun? Do we know that it was visible? Or was this a guy with a camera
33:11recording the incident and knowing that he was armed, they learned that later? Do we know that?
33:17We don't know. I'm like you and every other American. I've watched that video dozens of times
33:22in slow motion. I've tried to determine whether he actually pulled a gun out or not. I don't know. I just
33:29know that the situation's bad there. On one hand, there are thousands of criminal illegals in Minnesota,
33:38because that was a sanctuary city and a sanctuary state. The majority of Minnesotans, in my opinion,
33:43want them apprehended and sent back to where they came from. But on the other hand, I think this
33:49situation is only going to get worse. And I really think that there are so many cities in the United
33:53States that have issues with criminal illegals that I think they would be better received in
33:59other cities. And I hope that's something they're talking about doing right now, because Minneapolis
34:05isn't the only city. And if the local officials and the governor and attorney general are going to put
34:10federal agents' lives in danger with all the protesters and getting everybody fired up,
34:16trying to go there and disrupt ICE, then I think that's a decision they're going to have to make.
34:20Well, we played a soundbite earlier from Governor Tim Walz, who told residents to make sure to film ICE
34:27agents. And I imagine that this individual had taken that directive and was filming ICE agents.
34:35But Congressman, I want to move on because last week we saw Jack Smith testify publicly. And he said
34:41that President Trump, quote, willfully broke the law. He blasted the DOJ's retribution in the second term.
34:48Your reaction to what you heard from Jack Smith and where does your investigation stand in terms of
34:54his Arctic Frost investigation into Trump and his supporters? Well, look, Jack Smith can say whatever
34:59he wants, but he failed to prove that there were any crimes committed. And the tactics that we saw
35:06he did, you know, he didn't have the authority to subpoena the phones of members of Congress.
35:11He violated and abused his power as a special counsel. So, look, I think it's very clear that
35:21Jack Smith failed, that Jack Smith was doing this for one reason. That was political purposes. He was
35:27put in there by a corrupt Biden administration, by a corrupt Attorney General Merrick Garland,
35:32for one purpose. And that's to try to harm Donald Trump, to prevent Donald Trump from being elected
35:36President of the United States. This was all political, and I think the American people have
35:40seen it. And look, I think that Jack Smith showed the world that he never had the evidence,
35:47and he abused his power. Anybody that watched that hearing could see that. So, you know,
35:51I know that President Trump's tweeted out that Jack Smith should be convicted. Well,
35:57that's going to be his Department of Justice that's going to have to do that. I think the House Judiciary
36:00Committee did all it could do and got him to come forward and not only did a deposition,
36:05but also came back and did a public hearing. So if that's the direction that the Department of
36:10Justice wants to go, then I would fully support that, because I believe he abused his power,
36:14and I believe he was there for one reason, that's political purposes. Congressman, you also in the
36:18House have taken a step closer to referring the Clintons, Bill and Hillary, for criminal charges. Why?
36:24Well, they failed to comply with a lawful subpoena, and the majority of Democrats on the House Oversight
36:30Committee agreed with all the Republicans that they are not above the law and they should be
36:34held in contempt of Congress. We'll be voting on that for the full House next week, and I expect
36:39every Republican and a bunch of Democrats to vote for that. All right. We'll be watching that next
36:43week. Congressman, thanks very much for being here. Chairman James Comer. We'll be right back. Stay with us.
36:50Welcome back. Breaking news all morning long. The fallout over a second fatal shooting in Minneapolis
36:55to the intensifying weather as foreign forces are also trying to undermine the U.S.
37:00Streaming now with more is the president of the Government Accountability Institute,
37:03Peter Schweitzer, the author of the new book, The Invisible Coup, how American elites and foreign
37:09powers use immigration as a weapon. It is available right now. Peter, thanks very much for being here.
37:14Congratulations on the book. Before we get into what you've learned about Mexico and what you've
37:19reported in the book, do you believe there are any outside agitators on the ground right now in
37:25Minneapolis? And what is your reaction to a second fatal shooting at the hands of Border Patrol?
37:34Yeah, no, well, I think the the chaos in Minneapolis is absolutely horrifying. And I think that foreign
37:39actors benefit from that. Here's what we know. We know that foreign powers like Mexico are actively involved
37:47in organizing what they call the resistance to Donald Trump. That's not my words. That's what
37:52Mexican officials who live inside the United States say. A gentleman named Mr. Robles, who lives in
37:58Ontario, California, who serves in the Mexican parliament. He's a high ranking Morena Party
38:03official in Mexico, went around the country in 2025 saying that he was organizing the militancy,
38:10his words inside the United States, working with activist groups. And there are other officials,
38:17Mexican officials living in the United States saying the same thing. If you look on the ground
38:22in Minneapolis, there are a couple of groups that are very actively involved in the anti-ice protests.
38:29One of them is in the same building as the Mexican consulate and has worked aggressively with them.
38:36It's called CLUES. There's another organization called MIRAC that has also worked very closely with
38:41the Mexican consulate. So I think we need to look at the political activities and agitation
38:46that Mexico is engaged in in the United States. Again, these are not my words, Maria. This is what
38:51Mexican officials, I quote in the book, are saying they are doing in the United States.
38:56All right. I want to talk more about what you've learned and what you've reported in the book,
39:00particularly as it relates to Mexico, but also communist China. We'll take a break and come right back
39:05with that. I'm talking with Peter Schweitzer here on Sunday Morning Futures. Stay with us.
39:11And I'm back with Peter Schweitzer, author of the new book, The Invisible Coup. Peter,
39:15what else did you learn and report? What were your big takeaways out of this book?
39:21Well, that we have been looking at immigration the wrong way. We viewed it primarily in terms of
39:26the economy and violent crime, which is very important. But the motivation of foreign actors
39:31is to weaponize immigration. So what do I mean? China has a very sophisticated program of exploiting
39:38birthright citizenship. And the Supreme Court's going to be hearing this case. That's the notion
39:43that if you happen to give birth to a child in the United States, that child will be an American
39:47citizen. Our federal government has no idea, no idea how many children are being minted as U.S.
39:54citizens using this technique. But China has looked into it. China has encouraged this.
39:59They've pushed it. The Chinese government believes that every year for the past 13 years, Maria,
40:05roughly 100,000 Chinese babies have been born in the United States. So they're then taken back to
40:11China, raised in China. When they turn 18, they're going to be U.S. citizens. They can vote in elections,
40:17donate to political campaigns, get government jobs. That's more than a million voters. Remember that
40:242016 election was settled by 80,000 votes. So it's a massive exploitation of our immigration laws.
40:30Other entities like the Muslim Brotherhood and the Mexican government are doing the same sort of thing.
40:35Now, these are such important points, Peter. Thanks very much for pointing it out in this new book.
40:40Congrats to you. Please come back soon, Peter. Peter Schweitzer is the president of the Government
40:45Accountability Institute. Thank you. That'll do it for us on Sunday Morning Futures. Stay safe,
40:49everybody. I'm Maria Bartiromo. I'll be with you tomorrow on Mornings with Maria. And don't miss
40:54my special interview with the First Lady on Thursday on Fox Business' Mornings with Maria.
