00:00Venezuelan acting president Delsi Rodriguez announced that $300 million made from oil sales will be allocated to workers' income in an effort to bolster the nation's economy.
00:21And the Spanish Union of Railway Operators called a strike in the sector for Wednesday to demand guarantees of safety and reliability following recent train accidents that resulted in numerous deaths, including two train operators.
00:37Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a wanted war criminal, has accepted the invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to join the so-called Board of Peace for the Gaza Strip, despite his leading role in the Genosadal War against the Palestinian people in the enclave.
00:54Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Delsi Studios in Havana, Cuba. We'll begin with the news.
01:05The acting president of Venezuela, Delsi Rodriguez, announced on Tuesday that funds from oil sales had been deposited in an effort to bolster the Venezuelan economy.
01:26During a visit to the Hugo Sala Socialist Commune in La Vega, Caracas, Rodriguez explained that of that initial $500 million from oil revenue, $300 million had been deposited in the nation's coffers to cover workers' incomes.
01:42Let's recall that on January 16th, Rodriguez specified that the program of economic recovery, prosperity and growth presented by President Nicolás Maduro in 2018 is being ratified in this new stage for Venezuela, enabling the Venezuelan economy to lead growth in Latin America.
01:57We stay in Venezuela where on Tuesday the National Assembly held a meeting of the Advisory Committee in Caracas, during which National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez stated that eight major legal codes will be implemented to simplify and modernize the legal system.
02:18Rodriguez stated that during the 2026-2031 parliamentary term, the country's laws will be organized to prioritize those with a significant impact on national projects.
02:27He emphasized that the law of reform processes seek adaptability to the new times.
02:32To conclude, the National Assembly President stressed that the most important thing is for Venezuelan families to understand that the purpose of this body of law is to ensure the safety of present and future generations.
02:46In an exclusive interview with a multi-platform Telesur, Venezuela's Attorney General Tarek William Saab highlighted the resolve of the national government and acting President José Rodríguez in governing despite the military aggression of the United States against the country and the kidnapping of Constitutional President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores.
03:09First and foremost, what must be highlighted is the firmness and absolute dignity of our people, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, state institutions, the popular movement, social movements and, of course, acting President Dr. Delci Rodriguez, to lead and direct in response to the
03:39to what has happened, an event I would describe as not only a direct violation of international law, but also it made it in practice a literal death letter after having seen the sequence of events that took place from 2023 in Gaza, before the complicit eyes of the great powers of the earth.
04:08The people of the earth who did absolutely nothing to prevent a massacre, an ethnic cleansing that could easily have killed and made disappear babies, pregnant women, newborn children, girls, and especially women and children,
04:38as well.
04:39In this context, William Saab also demanded the unconditional release of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores.
04:43When you look at it, there were between 100 and 120 innocent Venezuelan citizens, including elderly women and children sleeping at that hour who were murdered, as well as members of the United States.
04:44In this context, William Saab also demanded the unconditional release of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores.
04:50When you look at it, there were between 100 and 120 innocent Venezuelan citizens, including elderly women and children sleeping at that hour who were murdered, as well as members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces and the Security Force from an agreement between Cuba and Venezuela.
04:51In this context, William Saab also revealed the unconditional release of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores.
04:52When you look at it, there were between 100 and 120 innocent Venezuelan citizens, including elderly women and children sleeping at that hour who were murdered, as well as members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces and the Security Force from an agreement between Cuba and Venezuela.
04:53There were also Cubans and the First Lady Celia Flores and the First Lady Celia Flores.
04:54When you look at it, there were between 100 and 120 innocent Venezuelan citizens, including elderly women and children sleeping at that hour who were murdered, as well as members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces and the Security Force from an agreement between Cuba and Venezuela.
05:21There were also Cuban officers who were heroically killed in combat.
05:28It was not, as they have tried to portray it in their narrative, an agreement or a surrender.
05:35How could there be an agreement and a treaty with 120 civilians and military personnel murdered, with people shot down on the floor?
05:44We have five national prosecutors investigating these events because the world needs to know about them and needs to wake up.
05:53And I am going there as a conclusion to this first part of your program in which all of this that I mentioned to you concludes in a single unequivocal demand.
06:03The unconditional freedom of President Nicolás Maduro and the Congresswoman and First Lady Celia Flores.
06:10Let us not forget that Dr. Celia Flores is an elect Congresswoman and also has immunity.
06:16And all of that was violated.
06:17It was destroyed.
06:18Look, those who support them, they believe that nothing will ever happen to them.
06:26They believe that they are protected, that they are already far away from any action.
06:34Look, every action has a reaction.
06:37Negative karma exists.
06:39You reap what you sow.
06:44In Panama, several feminist organizations gathered at the National Assembly to oppose the bill that would eliminate the Ministry of Women.
06:51The organizations reported that their arrival at Parliament was hindered, delaying their entry and restricting the participation of several organizations in the session.
06:59The organizations declared that with the downgrading of the Ministry to the Institute for Women,
07:04the victim care centers that were beginning to be established in the different provinces of the country will be lost.
07:09Likewise, the bill affects frontline workers who were promoting equity policies, training and care for victims of gender-based violence, among other initiatives.
07:23And in Haiti, the security forces launched a massive operation to regain control of Borough Prince, a city 90% dominated by criminal groups.
07:32Using drones and high-precision tactics, the police are seeking to disrupt criminal leadership in the capital's most violent neighborhoods,
07:39where residents report a gradual recovery of security in areas that were previously impassable.
07:44These actions are backed by multinational forces and aim to stabilize the country before the election schedule for mid-2026.
07:51The population demands that the state continue the offensive to allow the return of normal life and the diaspora.
07:56In the Argentine Patagonia, despite Chubut Governor Ignacio Torres' statements that the fire was 100% contained,
08:05the blaze that started in El Ollo on January 5th reignited in three large areas.
08:11The fire is being fueled by warm winds, high temperatures and a two-year drought affecting the Patagonian mountain range.
08:18Epuyen is the town that was hit hardest, where at least 40 homes burned down and two entire neighborhoods were evacuated.
08:24On Monday, two large fires reignited, one near Pirke and Epuyen Hills, on the lake of the same name, and another to the northwest.
08:33In this context, Governor Ignacio Torres has been questioned for attempting to stop donations to volunteer brigades and social organizations that provide support.
08:39logistical support and assist victims through the Buenos Aires media.

09:34Welcome back.
09:35The Spanish Union of Railway Operators has called a strike in the sector for Wednesday to demand guarantees of safety and reliability on the network.
09:43following recent train accidents that resulted in numerous deaths.
09:46Spanish Railway Operators Union to seek criminal liability for those responsible for infrastructure safety.
09:53The union is demanding accountability for the accidents in Adamus and Gélida and opposes the launch of the Rodale service in Catalonia.
10:03Two train operators' death in accidents in Adamus and Gélida have pushed the group to its limits.
10:09To its limits, its main union, SEMAF, announcing a general strike to give legality and protection to the protests by workers and users with the aim of demanding safety and reliability.
10:18Let's recall that two train derailments have taken place in Spain during the ongoing week, resulting in over 40 deaths and 150 injuries.
10:31In the south of the country, a clash of two trains in the Andalusian town of Adamus in Córdoba on Sunday has left at least 43 casualties and so far 120 injured, but the cause of the tragedy still being unclear.
10:43Meanwhile, in Catalonia, at least one person died and 37 others were injured in another train accident on Tuesday night where a retaining wall fell on the train tracks.
10:52In the aftermath, authorities have informed the cause of both sinisters remain under investigation while many railway tracks continue to be out of operation in both localities.
11:01According to reports, Presidential Plane Air Force One, which was transporting U.S. President Donald Trump to Davos, had to turn back and make an emergency landing less than an hour after takeoff due to a minor electrical problem.
11:22White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on board the plane that, after taking off from Joint Base Andrews, the crew detected a minor electrical problem.
11:34As a precaution, they decided to turn around and return to base.
11:37The presidential plane landed back at base at 11.07 p.m. local time of Tuesday, January 20.
11:42Levit added that the president will board a new plane bound for Davos.
11:47Trump will participate in the World Economic Forum taking place in the Swiss city.
11:52And in Switzerland, the 2026 World Economic Forum takes place amid rising tensions between the U.S. and its allies over U.S. President Trump's threat to impulse tariffs on Greenland.
12:08In this regard, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Cardin stated his position on the matter as saying that his country stands firmly with Greenland in the right to determine their own future.
12:17We are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition.
12:23Over the past two decades, a series of crises in finance, health, energy and geopolitics have laid bare the risks of extreme global integration.
12:32But more recently, great powers have begun using economic integration as weapons.
12:38Tariffs as leverage, financial infrastructure as coercion, supply chains as vulnerabilities to be exploited.
12:45On Arctic sovereignty, we stand firmly with Greenland and Denmark and fully support their unique right to determine Greenland's future.
12:55Canada strongly opposes tariffs over Greenland and calls for focused talks to achieve our shared objectives of security and prosperity in the Arctic.
13:08And in this context, more than 2,000 people gathered in the Swiss city of Zurich to protest against the arrival of U.S. President Donald Trump at the World Economic Forum.
13:16Activists and members of various social and political organizations protested against what they described as a meeting of oligarchs.
13:23During the demonstrations, several buildings were spray painted and smeared with paint.
13:27Containers and U.S. flags were set on fire and several shop windows were damaged.
13:32These protests resulted in the arrival of police forces who repressed the protesters with water cannons, tear gas and rubber bullets.
13:48Precisely during his address at the World Economic Forum currently underway in Davos, the Chinese Vice-Premier Hillary Fan harshly criticized the U.S. and its interventionist policies.
13:58More with our China correspondent, Bruno Falsi.
14:02Greetings comrades, I am in Beijing now to report to you that during the World Economic Forum in Davos, China took a firm stance against the unilateral policies of the United States,
14:15criticizing its intervention in other countries in what Beijing calls the law of the jungle.
14:22The Vice-Premier Hillary Fan emphasized that all countries have the right to defend their sovereignty and legitimate interests,
14:31and that international cooperation, the free trade and the inclusive globalization should guide global economic relations rather than coercion and the imposition of the force.
14:46Let's see now his words.
14:48The rules must be applied equally to everyone.
14:52A handful of countries should not enjoy privileges based on their power and the war should not revert to the law of the jungle, where the strong intimidate the weak.
15:01Every country has the right to defend its legitimate rights and interests.
15:05Since joining the WTO, China has strictly followed the organization's rules, fully met its commitments and taken voluntary steps to contribute even more.
15:14Last year, it solemnly announced that it would not seek any new special or differential treatment in current or future WTO negotiations.
15:23China will continue to firmly uphold the WTO's center's rules-based multilateral trading system and strongly support reforms of multilateral institutions,
15:33including the WTO and the IMF, with the aim of increasing the authority, effectiveness and inclusiveness of the multilateral trading system
15:41and enhancing the representation of the global south and developing countries.
15:48This violent warning from Beijing resonates directly with the situation in Venezuela, a country that has suffered economic sanctions, a naval blockade and a military invasion by the United States,
16:03including bombings that killed 100 people and led to the kidnapping of its president, Nicolás Maduro.
16:11These actions have been described as a clear violation of international law and the use of force to impose United States interests, which China calls the law of the jungle.
16:25China reaffirms its support for multilateralism, the respect for sovereignty of states and the right of each country to decide on its own economy,
16:37making clear its rejections of the imposition of force and Washington interventionist policies.
16:45With this news from here, Beijing, we return with you in the studios in La Habana, Cuba.
16:52According to the government of the Russian Republic of Adigea Murad Kumpilov, the Ukrainian armed forces carried out a drone attack in southern Russia on Tuesday night.
17:12According to the official, the attack caused a fire in the village of Novaya Adigea that affected a residential building and a parking lot.
17:21Eleven people have been injured so far, including two minors. Nine of the victims were taken to health centers for medical attention.
17:27Meanwhile, emergency services are assisting those affected in the area and a temporary shelter has been set up for families whose homes were destroyed by the fire.

17:53Welcome back.
18:21Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accepted the invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to join the Board of Peace for the Gaza Strip,
18:28despite his leading role in the genocide of the Palestinian people in the enclave.
18:32Netanyahu's office announced on social media on Wednesday that the Prime Minister will join the initiative as part of phase two of the ceasefire agreement with Hamas to end Israel's genocide award on Gaza.
18:42Numerous world leaders have been invited to join the body that should oversee the demilitarization and reconstruction efforts for Gaza.
18:49However, Netanyahu's involvement will add to concerns over the objectivity of the board which will be led by U.S. President Donald Trump.
18:56Meanwhile, European leaders have increasingly questioned the United States' role in peace agreements,
19:01arguing that their mediation has failed to erase humanitarian access or deliver meaningful political progress.
19:18Also in Palestine, Israel has begun demolishing buildings inside the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees Headquarters in East Jerusalem,
19:27as the Zionist government continues to attack humanitarian groups that provide aid to Gaza.
19:32In a statement on Tuesday, the organization said that Israeli forces had confiscated staff devices and forced them out of their headquarters in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood,
19:40constituting an unprecedented attack against the U.S. and its premises.
19:46It also constitutes a serious violation of international law and the United Nations privileges and immunities.
19:52For its part, the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah denounced the demolitions, calling them a deliberate escalation against the United Nations Agency for Palestine refugees.
20:00On Tuesday, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced a four-day ceasefire with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces in the northeast of the country.
20:14This announcement followed a report from the de facto government of an understanding with the Syrian Democratic Forces for a truce that came into effect at 8 p.m. local time.
20:23The Syrian Army stated they also asked the Kurdish forces to provide the name of a candidate for the role of assistance to the defenseman.
20:29in Damascus, as part of efforts to integrate the SDF into this de facto Syrian state.
20:35Other part, the Kurdish forces have pledged to respect the truce, saying that it will not initiate military actions as long as its forces are not attacked.
20:42On Wednesday in Seoul, Central District Court former South Korean Prime Minister Han Dook-so was sentenced to 23 years in prison for his involvement in the 2024 Declaration of Martial Law.
21:00Han Dook-so was sentenced for charges including engaging in key action of insurrection during the then-president Jun-suk jail's imposition of martial law in late 2024.
21:08A judge says that Han was found guilty because he failed to hold the cabinet meeting required for the declaration of martial law under South Korean law.
21:16The 26-year-old politician becomes the first member of Jun's cabinet to be sentenced for his role in the martial law declaration in December 2024.
21:32On Wednesday, Tetsuya Yamagami, the killer of Japan's former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, was sentenced to life in prison.
21:39Yamagami admitted to the crime and said it was prompted by a message Abe sent to a group associated with the Unification Church, which he wanted to harm.
21:47The apprehended gunman told investigators that he had initially planned to assassinate the founder of the Unification Church but had chosen Abe, whom he linked to the church, as a more accessible substitute target.
21:59For its part, the defense argued that Yamagami's childhood, marked by its religious group, constituted a form of religious abuse and maintained that the sentence should be limited to a maximum of 20 years in prison.
22:10And search and rescue operations resume on Wednesday after the wreckage of a helicopter was found near a volcanic crater on Mount Oso in southwestern Japan.
22:29On Tuesday, a sightseeing helicopter carrying two passengers from Taiwan and a 64-year-old Japanese pilot went missing, according to Kumamoto Prefecture Police.
22:38The wreckage was found on a slope inside a crater. Also, police say that they cannot confirm whether the wreckage belongs to the missing aircraft.
22:45However, based on their examination of the body and registration number, they believe it is highly likely.
