00:00Ending the season abruptly in a wildcard slash divisional AFC championship game
00:05or a Super Bowl, it hurts.
00:07And you saw Josh Allen wearing that on his sleeve.
00:09He had too many turnovers in this game, didn't play up.
00:11This one's going to sting for a long time.
00:14But a long time seems to be how many years that Josh Allen has gotten
00:17to the Buffalo Bills into the playoffs here.
00:20And if we look in 2020, loss in the wildcard round.
00:232021, loss in the conference championship game.
00:262022, 23, 24, 25, 26.
00:28A whole lot of L's.
00:30Now, granted, you want to end the season if you make the playoffs
00:33with your last game being a win, which means you're a Super Bowl champion.
00:36We're not saying Josh Allen can't get over the hump.
00:39But from based on what we've seen over the past, what, seven years?
00:44He can't get over the hump, Joe.
00:46Yeah, I mean, he does have a winning playoff record.
00:50I think he's eight and seven, right?
00:52But he can't get beyond the AFC championship game.
00:57And I think he becomes, what, the first quarterback to have, what, eight trips to the divisional
01:02round, but can't seem to do anything with it, can't make it to a Super Bowl here.
01:07In fact, I believe he's one of eight quarterbacks with at least four Pro Bowl selections
01:12in their first eight seasons without a Super Bowl appearance.
01:16I mean, now, the only saving grace is it took Peyton Manning a little while to break through
01:21too, right?
01:22I think his ninth year was finally when he got it done.
01:26And then he went on to win a few more after that.
01:28But, you know, sometimes patience, it'll eventually pay off.
01:32And he's hoping they figure that thing out, not only get him some weapons, but figure some
01:38things out on defense as well.
01:39So, you know what, and like, you eventually have to start blaming Josh Amp, because the
01:44quarterback's always going to get the brunt of it.
01:46You win, it's the quarterback, you lose, it's the quarterback's fault at this point.
01:49A lot of those playoff games, I never looked at him as like, oh, well, he was the reason
01:53that they lost that football game.
01:54Like, a lot of these situations, he left the field here where they had a lead and the defense
01:57just couldn't close the door.
01:59But I look at the general manager.
02:00You don't have to be all in where you, like, blow up your team.
02:03It's like, hey, we only got one or two-year window, and then we're going to have to get
02:05rid of everybody.
02:06But the simple fact of the matter, I think it was negligence on their part.
02:09Like, I like Khalil Shakir.
02:10I think that's a good move to have a slot wide receiver who makes, you know, things happen.
02:13You have two solid tight ends.
02:14The running back, Cook, fantastic.
02:16You just needed a number one wide receiver for Josh Allen, and I think everything would
02:20have clicked in place.
02:21They didn't give it to him.
02:22Like, this is one of the least talented teams I thought he was dealing with this year
02:25as opposed to the previous years, and he can't do it all himself.
02:28Now, granted, he can't have the turnovers, but also, I do agree with Sean McDermott here.
02:32Here's him talking about that interception, which felt like it was rushed out
02:36there, and we didn't get the appropriate responses, and I don't think it was even the
02:39right call.
02:40Take us into that sequence under Brandi Cook's, what ended up being the interception, the
02:45timeout, and what you were told.
02:47Yeah, so obviously, I don't have the power to challenge, right?
02:49We're in overtime, so the flag is not an option to throw it down.
02:54So I called a timeout to try and get the process to slow down because it seemed like the process
02:59was not slowing down.
03:00It was a rather rapid unfolding of the review, if there was a review.
03:07And so I called a timeout to try and slow it down.
03:09It would just, it would seem logical to me.
03:13It would seem logical to me that it'd make a lot of sense that the head official would
03:19walk over and want to go and take a look at it just to make sure that everybody from here
03:25who is in the stadium to there are on the same page.
03:30That's too big of a play.
03:31In my estimation, too big of a play.
03:33In a play that decided the game, potentially, as well, to not even slow it down.
03:41And that's why I had to call a timeout.
03:44It's not what I wanted to do, but I had to do it in order to make sure that I understood
03:49what was going on and that they did take a look at it.
03:53And it's hard for me to, and I've had a chance to look at it, it's hard for me to understand
04:00why it was ruled the way it was ruled.
04:01He's right about one thing here, Joe, because like on a normal NFL Sunday, you have people
04:07in the risk room, as we like to say in the NFL, watching these instant replays, but there's
04:11multiple games out there.
04:12There's one game.
04:14What would have been the harm of them just going under there, getting every single referee
04:18in New York and in that stadium on the same page, blanket by blanket, line by line, picture
04:23by picture.
04:24And even if then they came up with, you know what?
04:26It's still an interception.
04:27You can live with it a little bit more, but the stakes are so high.
04:30Like people lose their jobs and careers can be made on that play where I think it was
04:35a catch and he was down.
04:37But if they would have took their time and still ruled it the other way, I still wouldn't
04:39have as big of an issue.
04:41But I think McDermott is right.
04:42In that situation, that should have been slowed down immediately.
04:45And there should have been a commercial break where cooler heads could have prevailed and
04:50at least slowed down and looked at it.
04:51Yeah, but and here's the bottom line, Donnie.
04:56The NFL has not figured out a way to monetize transparency because if they had, this would
05:04have been addressed immediately, Donnie.
05:06As soon as that happened, all of those things were they wouldn't have sent Carl Sheffers into
05:11the pool report meeting.
05:13The guy that was 40 yards behind the play had absolutely nothing to do with making the
05:19call.
05:20Try to explain that to the pool reporters when he didn't review it, didn't see it, knew
05:25nothing about what, you know, the NFL.
05:28If you want transparency, then he's right.
05:31You should have just resolved it.
05:33Somebody from the league replay booth should have been the one explaining exactly why the
05:40decision was made the way it was.
