00:00Snowpiercer star Lena Hall is responding after her co-star Sean Bean said intimacy coordinators
00:05can quote, spoil the spontaneity of intimate scenes on a live set.
00:09This episode of THR News is brought to you by HBO, for your Emmy consideration.
00:15In a recent interview with the Times of London Sunday Magazine, Bean was asked about the famous
00:19sex scenes featured in the 1993 BBC series Lady Chatterley, and how those on that project would
00:25have coped with the intimacy consultants that have now become an increasing presence on sets.
00:29Bean, who is also known for his roles in Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings said,
00:33it would spoil the spontaneity.
00:35He continued, it would inhibit me more because it's drawing attention to things.
00:39Somebody saying, do this, put your hand there while you touch his thing.
00:42I think the natural way lovers behave would be ruined by someone bringing it right down
00:46to a technical exercise.
00:48The actor went on to mention a separate and more recent experience on the set of Snowpiercer
00:52with an intimate scene involving a mango, saying that as far as intimacy coordinators go, quote,
00:56it depends on the actress.
00:58This one had a musical cabaret background, so she was up for anything.
01:02On Monday, Hall, the actress in the scene with Bean, took to Twitter to respond directly
01:06to the story featuring these comments, writing,
01:09I probably need to clarify some information in this random article since people are reaching
01:13out to me like, girl, are you okay?
01:15After detailing the nature of the scene, she said,
01:17Just because I am in theater, not cabaret, but I do perform them every once in a while,
01:22does not mean that I am up for anything.
01:24Seriously does depend on the other actor, the scene we are about to do, the director,
01:28and whatever crew has to be in there to film it.
01:30She continued,
01:31Sean is an awesome actor and made me feel not only comfortable, but also like I had a true
01:35acting partner in those bizarre scenes.
01:37It was us against the world and we were going to tell that story.
01:40If I feel comfortable with my scene partner and with others in the room, then I won't need
01:44an intimacy coordinator. But if there is any part of me that is feeling weird, gross,
01:48overexposed, etc., I will either challenge the necessity of the scene or I'll want an
01:52intimacy coordinator. The actress went on to say that she does feel intimacy coordinators are a
01:57welcome addition to the set and that she thinks having a mental health professional present for
02:01extremely emotional or traumatic scenes would also be helpful. For more on this story,
