00:00I mean it's like I'm doing a show with Kate Hudson like I have to be at like it just ups the
00:06ante. It was a lot of laughter. Yeah. A lot of really inappropriate jokes that did not make the
00:14cut. That I wish did. Yeah. You were the president of Louise. This is shocking. But on behalf of all
00:19women don't ever make a mistake. Looks bad for all of us. We're a family sis. We got your back. No
00:26matter what people say. What are they saying? It's just the fact that you're a netball baby and you
00:30don't know what you're doing. Oh my God. Kate Hudson is starring in her first sitcom and it's
00:35giving big boss energy. Running Point on Netflix is a basketball comedy about a woman suddenly put
00:40in charge of the family business. Just too clean. Smudge them up or something. Comedy is something I
00:49love to do and it's very rare that you get all the pieces to make it right and this was just such a
00:58great group of people. The series is from executive producer Mindy Kaling and also stars Justin Theroux
01:03and Brenda Song who plays the team's chief of staff and the best friend we all need. Am I that bitch?
01:09You are the biggest bitch. I love the chemistry between you two. When did you meet? Did you meet
01:14on the show or how did you develop that? At the table read it was so much fun. You've got all these
01:20very talented actors who could be doing their own shows and so you had a lot of great input. It was
01:25like one of the best table reads ever. Oh yeah. And everybody brought so much but that's where we
01:30met and we were like oh how fun it's just gonna be. It was so. Where are the girls? Yeah. So much of it
01:34is on paper already because of Mindy, like Dave and our incredible writing staff. It was honestly
01:39really easy and effortless but it was simply because Kate walked in and she set the
01:44tone and the pace for everyone on the show and so it was really easy to sort of just like jump
01:49along and I was just like every day I was like I'm just happy to be here. Happy to be here. Yeah it
01:53was fun. She's really like my rock and also the one who's like not in like a cheesy way. Get your
02:01shit together. Hudson's character Isla Gordon is loosely based on Jeannie Buss current owner and
02:08president of the LA Lakers who also serves as an executive producer on the show. She and Hudson
02:13have a relationship that goes way back. I met Jeannie when I was quite young, 14 years
02:18old, so like this idea that she really wanted to make a 30 minute comedy that's very irreverent
02:24about sort of the inside look at her life and has that kind of sense of humor and ability
02:32to just be able to have fun with it for me felt like such an honor that she wanted me to play
02:37her play that. We both love sports. Yeah we both love sports. I love basketball. I'm a crazy
02:42basketball nerd. Like I love stats. I love the full. I'm a huge Lakers fan. There's also a little
02:47bit of rom in this com. Hudson's character finds herself in the middle of a sort of love triangle
02:51between Max Greenfield who plays her fiance and Jay Ellis who plays the team coach. Two guys with
02:57serious love interest experience. New girl or with Insecure or did you watch any of those shows?
03:03Of course. I got so excited. I couldn't believe my luck. I was like oh my gosh. I've got like you
03:10know they're and they're they they're so different and yet have like such great stability. I love Mindy
03:18and I we we talked about this and Mindy from the very beginning was like this isn't I don't want
03:24this to be about romance. This is about you know that is just one element of a full woman's
03:32life and her journey her journey and her and and so but then what was created for my sort of love
03:41life and my own inner com Isla's inner questions and complications when it comes to love and romance
03:50or even understanding how to love that made it really fun another fun thing for me to have conflict
03:57in internal conflict as as I'm trying to keep a team afloat. Everyone is horny for everyone they
04:04work with but you don't do anything about it. Throughout the season there are fun cameos to look
04:08out for. One in particular from Song's real life hubby Macaulay Culkin. Can I tell you people
04:13people have been asked I was like honestly it was because he made a joke he was on set and he made a
04:17joke about just he wants like being in this stance he put basically he put himself in the show
04:21um to be in this stance just to play a fan as like an easter egg for us and there was actually
04:26a part that was written to be a heckler and they're like well do you just want to do that
04:29and it kind of just snowballed into this whole thing. So funny. But he just honestly he put himself
04:34in the show. And he did so many funny heckles. Oh he loved it. We are going to give the rest of
04:39the season everything we got and make a deep playoff run. Oh yeah. Most people who live in comedy
04:46it's like you got to get a lot of pieces together to make sure you walk that line. I feel like we
04:52made a really fun watchable show. Netflix has just picked up running point for a second season.
04:58The series had a solid showing after its February 27th premiere ranking third on the streamer's top
05:0310 English language series. For more on this show head to THR.com. This is the Hollywood Reporter News.
