Transcript
00:00I would like my daughter's, Naya's legacy to be one that teaches people to love.
00:11Exactly one year after actress Naya Rivera was first reported missing,
00:15her mother and sister are reflecting on her death in an emotional interview with Good Morning America.
00:20The Glee alum's mother, Yolanda, recounted the last time she spoke to Rivera
00:23on the day she and her son, Josie, were on Lake Piru, where she went missing.
00:27I called her back and I said, Naya, where are you?
00:32She's like, oh, me and Josie were going to go to the lake and I was going to have them fish.
00:37During their conversation, Yolanda said she noted to her daughter that the lake conditions were choppy,
00:42but to quote, call me when you get off the water.
00:44Rivera's mother went on to describe hearing the news that her grandson had been recovered by a fellow boater,
00:49but that they couldn't locate her daughter.
00:51And it was almost like a force. I don't know what it was, but I literally, I was just pushed backwards, just screaming.
01:00A multi-day search for Rivera followed.
01:02What were those days like for you guys?
01:05Those first five days were...
01:06Hell.
01:07Awful.
01:08Hell on earth.
01:08Hell on earth.
01:09During their last FaceTime call, Yolanda took screenshots of Josie,
01:13which ultimately helped the search and rescue team find Rivera's body several days later.
01:17Rivera's official cause of death was an accidental drowning.
01:20Thank God I took the pictures because they were able to look at the topography of the land to locate where they were.
01:27Rivera's mother and sister also spoke to her legacy,
01:29including her impact playing the outspoken and confident lesbian Latina Santana Lopez on the Fox hit Glee.
01:35I honestly don't think that she even knew the impact that she had.
01:40People would come up to her all the time and say, you saved my life.
