00:00Jessica Jones is back and it's no coincidence that Netflix is dropping
00:11the second season of Marvel's superhero series on March 8, a.k.a. International Women's Day.
00:16The first five episodes were screened for press in advance, so we know that the show
00:20gets quickly into Me Too movement territory, featuring a storyline involving a filmmaker
00:24with a history of abusing women. The Hollywood Reporter's Josh Wigler spoke to star
00:29Kristen Ritter ahead of the season's release and she pointed out that the storyline came
00:33about before the current cultural moment. Said the actress,
00:36"...when all of that started coming out, we were all texting each other,
00:39holy shit, we're doing this on our show. The Me Too movement started in October,
00:44I believe, and we finished shooting on October 1." She adds,
00:47"...it's pretty intense and uncanny, but it's also cool and exciting to have a show
00:51that can express the anger that a lot of people are feeling. I love Jessica Jones
00:55because of the work I get to do and the material as an actress. But obviously,
00:59the fact that we participate in a huge social conversation, it's amazing."
01:04Meanwhile, David Tennant's very, very evil telepathic psychopath, Kilgrave,
01:09seemed to meet a violent end at our hero's hands in season one, but he's back.
01:13And Ritter has nothing further to say on that topic.
01:16"...I literally just got a memo that I'm not allowed to talk about it," she says
01:20with a big laugh. Top secret. But I can say that he's back, and I can also say
01:24that it's probably not a good thing. Stay tuned.
01:27When it comes to Luke Cage, a.k.a. Mike Coulter, is there hope for a cameo
01:31from the former series regular who now headlines his own Netflix show?
01:34Well, at least Ritter won't rule it out.
01:37"...we're such close friends, and we both love Luke and Jessica together," she says.
01:41"...who knows what's going to happen down the line. For now, Jessica Jones is focused on Jessica."
01:45But there are also new series regulars in the mix, including Leah Gibson as a mysterious
01:50woman who becomes wrapped up in Jessica's search for self-discovery, and J.R. Ramirez
01:54as a fellow resident of Jessica's building. They join season one returnees Rachel Taylor,
01:59Carrie-Ann Moss and Ika Darville.
02:02Oh, and watch out for this! Expect at least one massive presence from season one to get
02:06off this train before the end of season two. As Josh Wiggler puts it,
02:10"...without revealing any details, the second season of Jessica Jones makes it very clear
02:14very quickly. Danger hangs heavily in the air as our hero digs deeper into her own past."
