Protected First, Assaulted Later: Home Guard Attacked on Bengaluru Road After Advising Woman

A disturbing incident was reported from KR Puram in Bengaluru on Friday evening, where a woman home guard was allegedly assaulted by a young woman following a brief roadside argument. The incident has once again raised concerns over public safety and attacks on uniformed personnel performing their duties.

According to police, the incident occurred when a young woman was walking along the road wearing revealing clothes. Some men allegedly passed inappropriate looks at her. At that moment, home guard personnel Lakshmi Narasamma, an elderly woman deployed nearby, intervened and protected the young woman from the men.

After ensuring her safety, Lakshmi Narasamma reportedly advised the woman in a calm manner. She cautioned her that the area often witnesses misbehaviour by men and suggested she be cautious for her own safety, explaining that miscreants often target women walking alone.

The advice reportedly angered the young woman, identified as Damini alias Mohini. Eyewitnesses stated that she suddenly grabbed Lakshmi Narasamma by her hair, dragged her and assaulted her, causing injuries to her face and nose. The home guard reportedly started bleeding due to the attack.

People present at the spot intervened immediately, separated the two and rescued Lakshmi Narasamma. She later approached the police and filed a formal complaint against the accused.

Police reached the spot, arrested Damini alias Mohini and produced her before a court. The court subsequently remanded her to judicial custody and sent her to Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru.

Further details revealed that the accused had studied in a school in the Maldives and later completed her BBM degree in Bengaluru. Police noted that despite her educational background, she showed no respect towards an elderly uniformed official.

Officials stated that even if the woman disagreed with the advice, she could have expressed her disagreement politely, including asserting that her clothing was a personal choice. However, resorting to physical violence against a home guard on duty led to her arrest and imprisonment.
