Stop and think before putting all of your bottles of alcohol in the freezer! In this video, Food and Wine’s resident drink connoisseur explains how to properly store and serve gin, tequila, vodka, and other popular alcoholic drinks.

00:00Get your alcohol out of the freezer. The way you store your booze might really be impacting your
00:05drinking experience. Gin's floral herbaceous notes really mute when it's served too cold,
00:09so ice is your best friend. Serve your gin and tonic over really good fresh ice and mix your
00:13martini well. Same goes for tequila. The flavor is a bit more powerful, but those citrus fruit
00:19notes won't pop if it's too cold. If you're drinking a tequila over ice just kind of as a
00:23sipping tequila, pour it from room temperature over a big cube of ice so it won't dilute too
00:27quickly. If you're shaking up a cocktail, use a lot of ice. And yes, even bourbon tastes better with a
00:31bit of a chill, but don't store it in the freezer. The color might actually go from this beautiful
00:36clear brown to a bit cloudy, and those roasted caramel toasty notes are going to taste off.
00:42But here's the thing. You can keep your vodka in the freezer. It's the perfect neutral cocktail
00:46base, and the flavors won't mute as it's chilled way down. And please, please, please, this goes
00:50without saying, don't put your wine or beer in the freezer.
