00:05As you can see where I am at a park just near Parramatta.
00:07No one's outside exercising even though we're getting into the late hours of the afternoon
00:11because it's still 40 degrees where I am.
00:13We were at Birrung Pool earlier today and it was quite busy there.
00:17There were a lot of people swimming and with their kids because it's school holidays.
00:21The local council, the Canterbury-Bankstown Council, are actually extending their opening hours
00:25at the Birrung Leisure and Aquatic Centre to allow more people to cool off and have those options
00:30because when you're out in the western and southwestern suburbs you're just really far from the beach
00:34so having those local council options have been really helpful for the people trying to brave this heatwave.
00:39Councils like the Blue Mountains area, they're allowing free entry for people at their pools tomorrow
00:44because that's when the heatwave is really expected to peak with temperatures reaching into the mid-40s as well.
00:51And we spoke to some people who were at Birrung as well who were just saying how much they were enjoying the cool water.
00:56I sure wish I was in that cool water just to cool off him. Here's a bit of what they said.
01:04Oh, it's really hot and humid and the only way to kind of cool off is to bring me water.
01:10Because it's better. You get hydrated in the pool, yeah.
01:13I just need to cool and relax in the hot heat.
01:17Now, speaking of the role of local councils and local businesses,
01:22I hear that the shops and libraries are absolutely packed with people trying to escape the heat,
01:26get into some air conditioning at the very least.
01:29Absolutely. You know what they say, it gets hotter out west and the suburbs,
01:33especially the newly built ones with those dark pavements and dark roofs, they really do heat up.
01:37You get really high temperatures on the dark roads and so people are just trying to find a way to escape this heatwave.
01:42We were at Liverpool Library earlier today and we were speaking to a family who brought their two younger ones to the library to cool off.
01:49The mother there was saying that she normally likes to try and bring them outdoors during the school holidays,
01:53but that it was just way too hot today.
01:55And so they went to the library and the dad was saying that it's a good chance to not have their AC running at home all day.

02:08We can read, ask the family to read, get more than normally, read how the world's gone.
02:19And it's only expected to get hotter, particularly out in Western Sydney.
02:23Temperatures are forecasted for the mid-40s tomorrow and there's no relief seen until late on Saturday and into Sunday.
