00:00In Queensland the heat wave and really sticky conditions roll on but the good
00:05news is that the relief is not far away. Today we are still seeing pockets of
00:09severe heat wave conditions through Brisbane and up the East Coast. Another
00:12very hot and humid day and then into the afternoon we will see more
00:16thunderstorms developing right across the state and we could see severe
00:19thunderstorms across central and eastern parts this afternoon and evening. This
00:23does include Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast and again there is a
00:26risk of heavy rainfall damaging winds and large hail for these communities which
00:30have seen so many days of back-to-back thunderstorms but the good news is that
00:34from tomorrow it will finally see some dry winds coming through from the interior
00:37that will flush all that humidity off the coast and so we are expected to see some
00:42much drier and much more comfortable days across Brisbane and the South East into
00:46early next week so relief is on the way. Okay well heading down south a little bit
00:50more to New South Wales now some hot dry windy conditions expected there and a
00:56fire weather warning as well for parts of New South Wales. Yeah that's right so if
01:00you're on eastern New South Wales today another hot day temperatures reaching the
01:04low to mid 30s all through along the coast but it really will be about that
01:07really strong winds today we've got damaging wind warnings for the Blue
01:10Mountains and down towards the sort of slopes and up towards the southern parts
01:15of Northern Tablelands. With those warm temperatures and very strong winds we
01:18are expecting to see extreme fire danger today so that's for Sydney, the Hunter and
01:22the northwestern slope so there are quite a few active bushfires across eastern New
01:26South Wales so reminding residents today to keep across the forecasted mornings
01:30and follow all directions from RFS today if we do see some of those fires start to
01:34flare up but a very warm and windy day. All right Jonathan we're just heading into
01:38summer now and as I read on your website actually the La Nina is currently
01:43underway what does that actually mean for our summer months? Yes it's hard to
01:48believe that summer kicks off on Monday Monday will be quite an extreme day we've
01:52got 38 degrees in Perth extreme fire danger again in Sydney on Monday but then
01:56snow in Victoria a very cold day there but looking over the next few months we
02:00have declared that a La Nina event is underway so typically with La Nina we do
02:04expect to see wet and quite warm conditions across Australia but this one's
02:08quite unusual in that it's very short-lived very weak La Nina so it's not
02:12really producing any sort of strong wet signal across the country what we can
02:16expect to see though is those warm days of warm nights as we head through the
02:19rest of the summer months. What does that then mean for the summer rainfall
02:23average it will it be under well under the average? So overall because La Nina is
02:30quite looking like a quite weak and sort of short event we're not expecting to see
02:34any sort of strong signal being too wet or too dry across Eastern Australia where we
02:38are expecting to see drier than average conditions is across Western Australia and
02:41inland parts of Queensland but if you are living near the coast particularly across
02:45Eastern Queensland, Eastern New South Wales and Victoria we're not really seeing any
02:49influence on La Nina so it will really depend on what sort of other climate
02:52factors do come into play but of course we are expected to see those very warm
02:56days and nights right across summer
