00:00NFL Network, former player with the Jags,
00:03and joining us on the River Islands guest line,
00:06our buddy Bucky Brooks here on Willard and Dibs.
00:08Hey, Bucky, what's going on?
00:09Happy New Year.
00:11Man, happy New Year.
00:12Everything is good.
00:13No complaints.
00:14Life is good.
00:15Excellent.
00:15Excellent.
00:16And we love this time of year,
00:17and we do want to circle back with you
00:19because you may not even know this.
00:21Oh, boy.
00:21The last time you were on the show,
00:23it wasn't what you said.
00:25It was the way you said it that caught our attention,
00:28and we asked you who was going to win the NFC West,
00:31and it would have been fine if you were like,
00:33I'll pick the Rams.
00:34But you didn't say that.
00:35You were like, oh, the Rams.
00:38Like any other answer would be ridiculous.
00:42And so we used that throughout the year
00:45as all three of these teams were jockeying.
00:47What's your post-regular season reaction
00:50to the way the division played out?
00:53No, it was a tough division.
00:55And, you know, the Seahawks, the Rams,
00:57and even the Niners until they got beat up at the end,
01:01look, those are the three best teams in the NFC,
01:03like if you talk about it,
01:04like being real after seeing all of them.
01:06The Seattle Seahawks came back
01:09and snatched the division away from the Rams
01:11on a Thursday night,
01:12but I'm convinced that the Rams are the best team
01:14in the league.
01:15I'm convinced that they're going to be the best team
01:16in the NFC,
01:17and I expect them to represent the NFC
01:20in Super Bowl 60.
01:21That's a tall order,
01:22and as I was telling my partner Mark here,
01:24since 2020, road teams are 19-41 in the playoffs,
01:30so that's, I mean, obviously 60 games
01:32since the expansion.
01:33So what gives you so much faith,
01:35especially with Devontae Adams
01:36maybe being a little bit hampered?
01:39Yeah, like, I just think they're the most complete team.
01:42It's between them and the Seahawks
01:43in terms of who's the most complete.
01:45The difference is the quarterback.
01:47I would take Matthew Stafford over Sam Donald
01:49in a big-game situation,
01:50even though Sam Donald appeared to shake off
01:53that bugaboo, kind of,
01:55at the end of the year.
01:56We have to see what it looks like
01:57when they're playing,
01:58but the difference for the Rams,
02:00for me,
02:01offensively, they can run the football.
02:03They can run it with power.
02:04They've got enough speed to get on the perimeter.
02:06They're with or without Devontae Adams.
02:09Puka Nakua is there.
02:10They're trying out this big, tight end package
02:12with three tight ends
02:13and creating all kinds of chaos
02:14down in the red zone.
02:16And then you've got the Sean McVay factor.
02:17He just has a knack for being able to craft it.
02:20So even though they will need to be road warriors,
02:23I think if you ask them,
02:25do they feel like it's a daunting task
02:27to go on the road to beat Carolina?
02:29No.
02:30Do you think that they would feel the same way
02:32about having to play
02:33either the Philadelphia Eagles
02:34or the Chicago Bears
02:35if they had to do it?
02:36I think they would be okay with that.
02:38And then if it came down to it,
02:40if they're having to play a division rival
02:41in the championship game,
02:43I think they'll take their chances,
02:45particularly because
02:46they were dominating the Hawks
02:48until the fourth quarter
02:49where Sam Donald got hot.
02:50And it was kind of improbable
02:52the way that the other one,
02:54I think the Rams are very,
02:55very confident that they can get it done.
02:56So in your initial statement there,
02:58Bucky,
02:58and Bucky Brooks is joining us
03:00here on Weatherton Dibs,
03:01you said that the NFC West teams
03:03were the three best,
03:04but you sort of said with the Niners,
03:05until the end of the year
03:07when the defense fell apart.
03:08And I mean,
03:09it fell apart on different levels
03:10throughout the year.
03:11I get that.
03:11But what we're looking at right now,
03:14this particular group,
03:15how would you describe
03:16the 49er defense?
03:19Look,
03:19I give Robert Sala a lot of credit.
03:22He had to do the most
03:23with the least,
03:24meaning,
03:24if you rob a defense
03:26of his two blue chip players,
03:28and Nick Bosa
03:29and Fred Warner,
03:30you expect it to have
03:31a ripple effect
03:32on the way that you're doing.
03:33And so he's been able
03:35to do it by playing
03:36Bimba Don't Break,
03:37relying on the offense
03:39to kind of give them leads,
03:40and then they just kind of
03:40find a way to get it done.
03:42But what happens,
03:43you have some more injuries,
03:44and you've got a bunch
03:45of young guys playing,
03:46and they're still trying
03:47to figure out how to play.
03:49And you're going to have
03:50some of that,
03:51particularly down the stretch
03:51when you're playing good teams
03:53in these meaningful games.
03:54They just didn't have
03:55enough on defense.
03:56That said,
03:57I believe this is the best job
03:59that Kyle Shanahan
03:59has done with the team.
04:01He has really found a way
04:03to get this team up and going
04:04when no one really anticipated
04:06the Niners being in play this year.
04:08You think about Brandon Ayuk
04:09going AWOL.
04:10You think about all of the injuries
04:12that robbed them
04:13of their top players.
04:14Look,
04:15if they win last week,
04:16they're the number one seed.
04:18So,
04:19look,
04:19I give this team a chance
04:20to knock off anybody
04:22just because they're wizards
04:23on the whiteboard,
04:24but the personnel
04:26that they have right now,
04:27look,
04:27they're a little short
04:28going to the gunfight.
04:29And this gunfight
04:30is a peculiar one
04:32because Philadelphia
04:32has been a little bit
04:33of Jekyll.
04:34They've been a little bit
04:34of Hyde,
04:35depending on which game
04:36you go ahead and watch.
04:37What do you make
04:38of the Philadelphia matchup
04:39for a good Shanahan offense
04:41and a defense that,
04:42like you said,
04:43is kind of being held together
04:44with glue and duct tape?
04:46It's probably the best matchup
04:47that the Niners could have
04:48because offensively,
04:50the Philadelphia Eagles,
04:52for lack of a better word,
04:54had been yuck.
04:55They did a terrible
04:56on offense.
04:57They are bad to watch.
04:58They are not exciting.
05:00I mean,
05:01like this offense is,
05:03I mean,
05:04I watched them play
05:04against the Bills
05:05a couple weeks ago
05:06and I think they had
05:0719 yards in the second half.
05:08They cannot move
05:09the football.
05:10So,
05:11if you're the Niners
05:11and you think about,
05:12man,
05:13if we can just somehow
05:14run out to a 14-point lead,
05:16do the Eagles have enough
05:18to get back in it?
05:19Whether Jalen Hurts throwing,
05:20A.J. Brown,
05:21Devontae Smith,
05:22whoever they have
05:22on the perimeter,
05:23Saquon Barkley,
05:24hasn't been the same.
05:25They are not a very,
05:27a group that is together
05:30and that lack of chemistry
05:32and cohesion
05:32can come back to bite them.
05:34So,
05:34if I'm the Niners,
05:35I feel great about the matchup
05:36even though we have to go
05:37on the road
05:37and deal with the defending champs.
05:39I think this is the best matchup
05:41of all the matchups
05:42that they could have faced.
05:42Okay,
05:43so,
05:43but you mentioned them,
05:44you know,
05:44for instance,
05:45getting a 14-point lead.
05:47How do they go
05:48about doing that?
05:49What is the spot
05:50that Kyle can attack?
05:53Now,
05:54their defense is lights out.
05:55Jalen Carter's a monster
05:56on the inside.
05:58They're really good
05:58on the perimeter,
05:59but I think the one thing
06:00that the Niners
06:02have been able to do
06:02is they've been able
06:03to run the football.
06:04They've been able
06:04to set up Brock Purdy
06:05for success.
06:07Now,
06:07the thing that I've talked about
06:08and the thing that I've talked about
06:10on your thing
06:10is I've talked about
06:11the wide receivers
06:12having to win.
06:13I've talked about them
06:13not necessarily being
06:14route runners.
06:15Ricky Purcell can run routes.
06:17But they have to be able
06:18to run the football
06:19so they can get
06:20the play action things
06:21that they want to get done.
06:22They have to find a way
06:23to get some explosive plays
06:25through the air.
06:26And the only way
06:26they're going to do it
06:27is they have to be able
06:28to use Christian McCaffrey
06:29as a decoy
06:30to set up the shots
06:33that they want to take
06:33down the field.
06:34Now,
06:35it's a tall task
06:35because Vic Fangio
06:36is going to put an umbrella
06:37on the defense,
06:38not allow those things
06:39to get over the top.
06:40But they have to be able
06:41to run it
06:42so they give Brock Purdy
06:42a chance
06:43to push it past the defense.
06:44Okay,
06:45this is a one-off,
06:46Bucky,
06:46because I think
06:47I just detected
06:48something there.
06:49You're referring
06:49to your past
06:50Bay Area statement
06:51about Debo Samuel
06:53and Brandon Ayuk
06:54not necessarily
06:55being elite route runners.
06:57Now,
06:58you just said
06:58Ricky Purcell,
07:00he can run a route.
07:01I know he may
07:02or may not play.
07:03But,
07:04in your mind,
07:05if healthy,
07:06is Ricky Purcell
07:07a step above
07:10what the Niners
07:11have had
07:11in the past?
07:15He's a really good player.
07:17Like,
07:17look,
07:17man,
07:17I like Brandon Ayuk.
07:18I thought Brandon Ayuk
07:19was a really effective player
07:21until he got wacky.
07:23Whatever took place
07:25where he got wacky,
07:26where he just got weird,
07:27I don't know.
07:28But,
07:28he was a really good player.
07:30And,
07:30when I was talking about
07:31route running,
07:32more of it is like
07:32Debo than Brandon Ayuk.
07:34But,
07:34either way,
07:35Ricky Purcell can run
07:36individual routes.
07:37But,
07:37the thing about the offense
07:38that Shanahan runs,
07:40it is one that is really
07:41predicated on the running
07:42game get going
07:43and the illusion of the run
07:44setting up the explosive plays.
07:46And so,
07:46they work the middle
07:47of the field.
07:48And so,
07:48route running
07:49isn't necessarily
07:50coveted at a premium
07:52in that offense.
07:53That said,
07:54when you run against
07:55good teams
07:55that can play man-to-man
07:57and really trying to
07:58snuff out the run
07:59by loading the box
07:59and daring them to win,
08:01you have to have
08:01enough guys on the win.
08:02And so,
08:03that will always
08:04be the issue.
08:05Philly won't necessarily
08:06challenge them like that
08:07because Vic Fangio
08:08would prefer to play
08:09more man,
08:10I mean more zone,
08:11more matchup coverage.
08:12But,
08:13if they're able to
08:14advance in rounds,
08:15there will be some teams
08:15that challenge them
08:16man-to-man.
08:17They've got to be
08:17going to win those
08:17one-on-one matchups.
08:19You mentioned Fangio
08:19and just looking at the numbers,
08:21they don't seem to blitz a lot.
08:23Does Philadelphia have
08:24enough up front
08:26to get home with four?
08:27Because we saw that
08:27with Seattle against the Niners.
08:29They were able to rush four
08:30and cause a lot of havoc.
08:31Can Philly do the same thing?
08:33Yeah,
08:34that's their calling card.
08:35Jalen Card is a monster
08:36up front.
08:37The Jordan Davis playing,
08:38they roll a bunch
08:39of different dudes
08:40in on that defensive line.
08:41They want to rush four,
08:43have seven in coverage,
08:44keep their eyes
08:45on the quarterback,
08:46eliminate the big plays,
08:47and force you to drive
08:48it the length of the field.
08:50For the Niners,
08:51the way that you have
08:52to get them out of that
08:53is you've got to be able
08:54to run the football.
08:55You've got to run it
08:55at every area,
08:56inside,
08:57outside.
08:57You've got to give them
08:58a few different looks.
08:59But to me,
09:00if they're going to win,
09:02it's because Christian McCaffrey
09:03wears the big sombrero
09:04that he plays
09:06at an MVP level
09:07and he makes them
09:08have to get out of sorts,
09:10have them defend him.
09:11We have seen Kyle Shanahan
09:12unleash him, right?
09:13He had 1,000 rushing yards,
09:15100 catches,
09:15and all that.
09:16You want to see more of that.
09:18He has to have a big game.
09:20To me,
09:20I think all bets are off.
09:21If this is the last game,
09:22he needs to get 30 touches.
09:23Whatever combination of runs
09:25and receptions,
09:26that is,
09:27he needs 30 to set the table
09:28for the Niners.
09:29Bucky Brooks,
09:30NFL Network and beyond
09:32with us here
09:32on Witherton Dibs,
09:3495-7 the game.
09:36Okay,
09:36so obviously
09:37an attachment
09:38to what you're saying
09:39is the big fella,
09:41Trent Williams.
09:42We don't know about his health.
09:43He didn't practice today.
09:44He never does on Wednesdays.
09:45So we'll see.
09:47But in your mind,
09:48beyond the obvious,
09:50how much of a key
09:51is that
09:52to the Niners' chances
09:53this weekend?
09:54I mean,
09:55it's a big part of it.
09:56And it's probably
09:56one of the reasons
09:57why they didn't
09:58perform the way
09:59that they wanted to perform
10:00last weekend.
10:01They didn't have
10:01Trent Williams.
10:02He's their best
10:02offensive lineman
10:03even at his age,
10:04almost creeping up to 40.
10:05He's a terrific player.
10:07He's still physical.
10:07He's not quite what he was,
10:09but what he is now
10:10is still at an elite level.
10:12They need him
10:13because when you look
10:14at the front line
10:15of the Eagles,
10:16man,
10:16they are talented
10:16and they throw waves
10:19of bodies at you.
10:20You want him on the edges.
10:21Even though
10:21Cal has been able
10:22to kind of script it
10:23and get on the whiteboard
10:24and do some things
10:25to mask his absence,
10:27at the end of the day,
10:28man,
10:28you need Trent Williams
10:29on the field
10:30for them to be at their best.
10:31No doubt.
10:32And you get Trent
10:32and then you get Juszczyk
10:33and Kittle
10:34and it becomes
10:35a formidable way
10:35to run the ball
10:36to the left side.
10:37I'm wondering
10:38what your thoughts are
10:39on the Philadelphia run game.
10:40Saquon Barkley,
10:42monster year last year,
10:43this year,
10:441,100 or so yards.
10:45What are you seeing
10:45from the Eagles
10:46and Barkley
10:47in what looks like
10:48a big step back
10:49this year?
10:50Yeah,
10:51it's not necessarily him.
10:52I would say
10:52their offensive line
10:53is not nearly as good
10:54as they've been.
10:55And because the offensive line
10:56isn't as good,
10:57the running game
10:57hasn't been effective.
10:58And when the running game
10:59is not effective,
11:00it impacts the way
11:01that they want to
11:01throw the ball.
11:02Until they're able
11:04to either get
11:04all of their weapons
11:05back on the front line
11:07or until they perform better,
11:08it's going to be
11:09tough sledding
11:09to take on Barkley
11:10and it's going to be
11:11very, very tough
11:11for them to have
11:12rhythm in the passing game.
11:13If you think about
11:14the Niners
11:15and what they're trying out,
11:16can they give them problems?
11:18Yes,
11:19but it's going to be
11:19because these guys
11:20have to play
11:21above and beyond
11:22what we've seen them play.
11:23Robert Sala
11:23doesn't want to blitz a lot.
11:24He doesn't want to expose
11:25his corners
11:26to one-on-one coverage.
11:27And so,
11:28this has to be one
11:29where the front line
11:29can't control it
11:30at the point of attack.
11:32This game is won
11:33in the trenches.
11:34And so,
11:34whichever front lines
11:35on offense and defense
11:36performs better,
11:38that's the team
11:38that's going to win.
11:39So,
11:39for the Niners,
11:40they have to dominate
11:41at the line of scrimmage
11:42because they cannot allow
11:44this running game
11:45to get going
11:45and they can't allow
11:46Jim and Hurst
11:47to be comfortable
11:47in the pocket.
11:48Bucky,
11:49I'm trying to gather
11:50a few things
11:50just in listening to you
11:51about what you think
11:52about the NFC structure
11:53as a whole.
11:55Niners,
11:55certainly hampered
11:56by injury.
11:57Eagles,
11:58you don't like
11:58their offense.
11:59Rams,
12:00you love them.
12:01But if not the Rams,
12:03who else?
12:03Who else is really
12:04dangerous in this tournament?
12:07Seahawks.
12:07I mean,
12:07the Seahawks are number one seed.
12:09And I don't know
12:10if you've been up there,
12:11but going up and playing
12:12in their home stadium
12:13with the 12s
12:14is very,
12:14very difficult.
12:15It's loud,
12:15it's raucous,
12:16they play different.
12:17But the X-Factor
12:19is Sam Darnold.
12:20Like if Sam Darnold
12:21shows up
12:22and plays well,
12:23that's great.
12:24But remember,
12:24this team is second
12:25in the league
12:26in giveaways.
12:28Second.
12:29And the number one
12:30deciding factor
12:31in football games
12:32is the turnover boundary.
12:33So can they protect
12:34the ball enough
12:36to win games?
12:38That's what it comes down to.
12:40And the guy who
12:40touches the ball
12:40every play?
12:41Sam Darnold.
12:42So it rests
12:43on his shoulders.
12:44I hate to put that on him,
12:45but hey,
12:46he has it.
12:46He has to wear the crown.
12:48They are going to go
12:49as far as Sam Darnold
12:50will take him.
12:51So he has to be
12:51very careful
12:52with the ball
12:53because the rest
12:53of their team
12:54is rock solid.
12:55Like they are
12:55a really well-constructed team.
12:57And they could be there.
12:58They should be there
12:59given number one seed
13:00and how good their team is.
13:01So would you be shocked
13:03if it was someone
13:03other than Seattle
13:04or L.A.?
13:06Yes.
13:08Because I think
13:08all the other teams
13:09are too flawed
13:10to do it.
13:10We talked about Philadelphia,
13:12Carolina.
13:12We've talked about
13:13the NFC South.
13:15Chicago's a mirage.
13:16Like it's great.
13:16It's cute.
13:17All the pizzazz
13:18that they do on offense.
13:19Mass.
13:20A defense that isn't great,
13:21but they take the ball away.
13:23So those teams
13:24aren't good enough.
13:25So then,
13:26look,
13:26it's one of the
13:27three NFC West teams
13:29that can come out of it
13:30because at least
13:30those teams
13:31play a brand of ball
13:33that is sustainable
13:34and would give them
13:35a chance against
13:36any opponent.
13:36While we're exploring
13:37outside the Niners,
13:38what do you make
13:39of the AFC?
13:40Because you've got
13:41a couple of great defenses
13:43and Josh Allen
13:44going on the road
13:45and Trevor Lawrence
13:46and a hot team.
13:47Who do you think
13:47comes out of the AFC?
13:50Man,
13:50it's wide open.
13:50It's as wide open
13:51as it could be
13:53in the AFC.
13:54You have to love it
13:55if you're an AFC team
13:55competing in that
13:56because every team
13:57in the AFC
13:57has a flaw.
13:59Denver Broncos,
14:00defense is great,
14:01but it's great by design.
14:03They can get out
14:03to the pass
14:03and those things.
14:04But they're not quite
14:05the rough and rugged defense
14:06that some of these
14:08other teams
14:08that we talk about.
14:09You talk about
14:10the Patriots being young
14:11and inexperienced
14:12with their quarterback,
14:13but the quarterback
14:13is really good
14:14and Mike Rabel
14:14understands how
14:16to manage the game.
14:16They're tough.
14:17The Jaguars are slept on.
14:19No one talks about them.
14:19They're disrespected
14:20and all that,
14:21but Trevor Lawrence
14:22has been on the heat
14:23in the last eight games.
14:24They're playing really well
14:25and the coach is good.
14:26Steelers got away
14:27with one on Monday night.
14:28They should have been out.
14:29Mike Tomlin
14:30beating the chest
14:31and kissing goodbye,
14:32but they shouldn't have been
14:33in the postseason.
14:34The Texans are the team
14:35that no one wants to face
14:36because their defense
14:37is lights out.
14:38They make it uncomfortable
14:39to everybody.
14:40They can't score enough,
14:41but the magic number
14:42is 20
14:42and most teams
14:43can't surpass 20.
14:45John Harbin,
14:46the Chargers,
14:46are beat up
14:46on the offensive line.
14:48So it's tough.
14:49I mean,
14:49the Buffalo Bills are there,
14:50but this is the worst
14:52Buffalo Bills team
14:53that Josh Allen has led.
14:54So it's going to come down
14:55to who plays the best
14:56on a given Sunday,
14:57but there's not
14:58what I would call
14:59a dominant team
15:00that's coming out
15:00of the AFC.
15:01They're good teams,
15:02but they're flawed.
15:03So Bucky,
15:04correct me if I'm wrong,
15:06there's three playoff teams
15:07whose uniform you wore
15:11at a time or another
15:12in your career.
15:13Is that correct?
15:14The Bills,
15:15Packers,
15:15and Jags?
15:17Yeah,
15:17that's it.
15:18Okay.
15:19Do you identify
15:20with any one of these
15:22more than any?
15:23Do you ever...
15:24I don't want to put out
15:25on NFL Network world here
15:26that you're rooting
15:27for someone.
15:27They already know.
15:29They know what it is
15:30because right now
15:31I'm on the Jags
15:32radio broadcast team.
15:33The Jags.
15:34I'm Duvall.
15:35I'm DTWD.
15:36I'm Duvall till I die.
15:38So I'm rocking
15:38with the Jags.
15:39So like I'm with them.
15:41We're playing Buffalo.
15:42Buffalo was the first team
15:43I went to.
15:44Buffalo also was the first team
15:45they cut me.
15:46That's a little personal.
15:47I mean,
15:48we talked about
15:48that's an old breakup.
15:50You know what I mean?
15:50It's an old breakup.
15:51Yeah.
15:52There's that,
15:53and then the Packers
15:54are cool,
15:54but you know,
15:55I spent a lot of time there.
15:56Didn't play a lot,
15:57but I was on the team.
15:59So yeah,
15:59so Jacksonville is the place
16:00where I played.
16:01I enjoyed it.
16:02And I'm going to say this
16:03like in all honesty,
16:05people haven't had a chance
16:06to watch them.
16:07So you need to watch them
16:08on Sunday.
16:09And I hope they
16:09acquit themselves well
16:11because this team
16:12has been lights out
16:13and they played
16:14a really competitive schedule
16:15where look,
16:16they knocked off the Niners
16:17on the road,
16:18which is tough.
16:18They played everybody
16:20that you could think
16:21about being a heavyweight.
16:22Seattle beat them
16:23and the Rams
16:24mollywopped them,
16:25but everybody else
16:26they knocked off.
16:27The Broncos
16:27or whatever.
16:28So they've seen
16:29all the fastballs.
16:31And so to me,
16:31it wouldn't be surprising
16:32that when we come back
16:34and talk in a month,
16:35we're talking
16:35because the Jaguars
16:36are there in the Super Bowl.
16:38Like that's how good
16:39they are.
16:39People won't believe it,
16:40but when you see them,
16:42that's how they perform.
16:42They perform at a high level.
16:44When you say Duvall,
16:45it's so much cooler
16:47than when Liam Cohen
16:48says it.
16:49See now,
16:50if you say that
16:50to Liam Cohen,
16:51Liam Cohen may throw
16:52something at you.
16:52Oh, I know.
16:54He's petty.
16:54He's petty.
16:54He's very petty.
16:58And so whatever you say,
16:59because remember,
16:59he told Sala,
17:00I know.
17:01He told the same thing
17:03to Sean Payton,
17:03small market that.
17:05So be careful, Willard.
17:06I would hate to have
17:07to submit this clip
17:08to the Jaguars social team
17:10because I would hate
17:11for you to be on the video
17:12that they ultimately
17:13send out
17:14where people feel
17:15where they've been disrespected.
17:16Fire away.
17:17I don't want to throw you in there.
17:18No, listen.
17:18They say there's no such thing
17:20as bad publicity,
17:21so fire away.
17:23And if I'm Liam Cohen's problems,
17:26like for real,
17:26he's got bigger problems than me.
17:29I mean,
17:29we all look for something
17:31to dig into.
17:32Like we like a little,
17:33you know,
17:33like we like the league
17:35and find a little something
17:36to get us going,
17:37a little energy,
17:38a little bulletin board material.
17:39You know how that goes?
17:40Okay,
17:41then do it for us.
17:42Trevor Lawrence
17:43or Brock Purdy?
17:46Ooh,
17:46that's a good one.
17:47And you know,
17:48Brock Purdy,
17:49Brock Purdy,
17:51Brock Purdy trains
17:52down in Jacksonville.
17:53But look,
17:54I'm going to say this.
17:56Brock Purdy
17:56has been a more efficient
17:57and effective player
17:58throughout his career.
17:59Trevor Lawrence
18:00has more tools.
18:01And Trevor Lawrence
18:02right now,
18:03he's out playing.
18:05He's out playing Brock
18:06right now.
18:07He's out playing Brock.
18:08I mean,
18:08he is,
18:09even though Brock
18:09was on the heat
18:10until Saturday.
18:11Yeah,
18:11like Brock Purdy,
18:12number two rated quarterback
18:13in the league this year.
18:16And yeah,
18:17he can play all those games.
18:18I saw Matt Jones.
18:19That's true.
18:20Yes.
18:21I saw Matt Jones
18:23with my own eyes.
18:24The same guy
18:24I saw in Jacksonville
18:25who couldn't hit
18:26the side of the barn.
18:27You dropped him
18:28into that system
18:29in San Francisco.
18:30He looks like an all-star.
18:31You guys are talking about,
18:32man,
18:32we're going to trade him away.
18:33Somebody's going to want
18:34Matt Jones to be the guy.
18:36So,
18:37I'll put this to you.
18:38Is it the system
18:39or is it the player?
18:42Yeah,
18:42it's the system.
18:43And I'm going to completely
18:44cop out and tell you
18:45it's both.
18:46It is.
18:47It's both.
18:47It is both.
18:49It's both.
18:50And Bucky,
18:50this is what I was saying
18:51about Trevor
18:51because I was saying
18:52earlier when we were
18:53playing the Jags
18:54that I thought Trevor
18:55was better
18:56and that he was going
18:57to be better
18:57because the system
18:58got better
18:59and lo and behold,
19:00Trevor looks a lot better
19:01with Liam now this year.
19:02Well,
19:02sure,
19:03sure.
19:03He does.
19:04He does.
19:05He does.
19:05So,
19:05it is what we all
19:06are system players
19:07but I'm just saying
19:08I saw Matt Jones
19:09I've been looking
19:09like Joe Montana
19:10so I'm worried.
19:11Trevor is
19:12I think
19:13I think
19:15I think
19:15there was a little
19:16debate about
19:17like
19:17y'all weren't
19:18all the way
19:18convinced that
19:19Brock Purdy
19:19should replace
19:20Matt Jones
19:21when he got healthy.
19:22I thought there was
19:23a conversation.
19:25There was
19:25because it's
19:29debate radio
19:30where people
19:31put a faux
19:31question on the board
19:32and everyone starts
19:33yelling at each other
19:34about it.
19:35Ride the hot hand.
19:37Give me a break
19:38with ride the hot hand,
19:39Bucky.
19:40I'm just saying.
19:41I'm just saying.
19:42Look if I
19:43look if we had
19:45the blind resume
19:45I don't know.
19:47Both guys
19:48are like the same.
19:49I don't know.
19:50One's a $50 million
19:51quarterback
19:52and one is a
19:53cast off.
19:55They both put up
19:56the same numbers.
19:57I knew.
19:57No, they didn't put up
19:58the same numbers.
19:59Mac Jones
20:00out here
20:02Max beating
20:04the Cardinals
20:0416 to 15
20:06and people are like
20:06ride the hot hand.
20:09Oh my God.
20:10Look, brother
20:10just because
20:12Brock Purdy
20:12does the Dougie.
20:13Doesn't make him
20:14any cooler
20:15than Mac Jones.
20:16Mac Jones
20:16has some swag
20:17too.
20:17I saw some of
20:18them post-game
20:19suits.
20:20Some of those
20:20post-game fits
20:21that he had on.
20:22I mean, I don't know.
20:24I think that's why
20:25Brock started doing
20:25the Dougie.
20:26He's like,
20:26I better up my
20:28cool a little bit.
20:30Hey, Bucky,
20:31you're the best, bud.
20:32Appreciate you.
20:34All right, man.
20:34We'll do it.
20:35All right.
20:36Beautiful stuff.
20:37Bucky Brooks.
20:38He's the best.
20:39NFL Network.
