00:00All right welcome back everybody it is crossover time and on a Friday that means
00:04we are sponsored by ATCO Pest Control. Let's welcome in Dan Dibley and Mark
00:10Willard and of course the fellas on a Friday we'll have the what's bugging you
00:13segment also sponsored by ATCO Pest Control. Boys, Stiney looking good in the
00:19it's not a sweater it's a pink pullover. It's a piece. Nice piece. On his way to the
00:26Bayou Pink Pullover Club. Showing everybody your piece huh? Nice. What time is your
00:34flight? I'm not even sure. There you go. It's one of those. 430? You got a driver or
00:40something? No I'll take Bart down to the airport. I don't know what time. He's got
00:43somebody that booked the flight. Oh you know what I just got something from United
00:46Airlines. We'll see you soon. Flight to New Orleans departs at 438. Oh you gotta be
00:52on the move. I hope p.m. Well you're in the city. I mean how long does it take to get to
00:57the airport from here on Bart? About 40 minutes. Really? 30 minutes? I mean. I thought you should
01:05have ticked today. Oh damn. Evan and I should and we would have. I know we're 28. You're on
01:09Bart at 233. You're on Bart at 309. You're fine. Bart's right down the street. Yeah it's right. It's a block
01:16away. I take it every day. You do. Almost there. Where's your luggage? Not there. Yeah. I'm there for a day. It's more like a bank. Yeah. It's parents weekend right? It's homecoming. It's been delivered. It's been delivered. It's been delivered. Will Richard is carrying it to the airport. Perfect. Actually you guys can help me with this. Cheers. So um I don't know if you heard but uh we're going to New Orleans. We're surprising Mary
01:44Paige. Did you know that? Oh god. No but I know what her reaction is going to be. What the hell are you doing here? No. No no no. He missed yesterday. It's parents weekend. Correct. But she doesn't know you're coming? That's correct. And tell her what's going on and how she's handling it. She must clearly be of the opinion that you're not coming. Correct. And taking it hard. I would imagine that that. Well okay. Is she feeling a certain way? I can do this pretty quickly. Three months ago she's at home and I say hey when's uh when's parents weekend?
02:14Get down to the bayou. Were you actually clapping when you did that? Probably. Yeah I probably was. And um Susan says uh yeah you know that's probably it's a freshman thing. You know she's a sophomore now. They don't do that. And she really didn't. She was like yeah whatever. Anyway two weeks ago or a month ago um we decided let's let's surprise her for parents weekend. Well since then the last two days she's been calling her mom
02:44saying I'm saying I'm really depressed you're not coming. Oh. And kind of crying on the phone. Yeah. So the decision was should I just tell her look we're kind.
02:56I told him to hit her on the side for moms and say we're coming. Don't tell moms. Well maybe I don't know. You'll appreciate this. Meanwhile Susan I'm like let's just tell her. And she's like no. Laughing. Like kind of like she's just being overly dramatic.
03:11And I'm like oh no. We got it. So talk about the text of that man. I know his daughter. Yeah. And so I don't know her very very well. But I've known her since she was two.
03:20And I know that when she was two. He and I walked through his house. On our way to the backyard to hang out. And we were saying nothing to each other. Or her. And we walked by the TV. And we stopped. And she looked at us and said. No daddy. No. And I was like. And I looked at him. And he looked at me. And he's like. Let's go. Let's keep going. So if she needs to have a little bit of a tough time with something. I'm here for it.
03:47No daddy what? Like. No daddy nothing. She just said no. She just didn't want. Like. But what did she know? She didn't want me. She didn't want you. In the room. Anywhere. Maybe she didn't want you to go to the backyard. Maybe she didn't want. That's how I take it. I would have taken it. She didn't want. Trust me. Trust me. I mean it wasn't even like. Hey. Hey Paige. You need to have your snack. No daddy. It was an unmitigated. Unprovoked. No daddy. And with the strength. She was speaking for her mama. On the strength. Whatever.
04:17All today. So a lift. A lift would be faster. No. No. To the airport from downtown? Uh. I mean. Six of one. Half dozen of the others. You're fine. You're fine. But tell her about what she did today. Your daughter. What she said today. That was yesterday. She was distraught. She said. What did you get today? I'm so depressed. I'm sad. I would have just called her on the side. Willard. It's tough. It's tough. It's tough.
04:47I would have done it. It's tough. It's tough. Don't tell your mom. I told you. But. But. Are you. Are you giving up. Goo. What. Could stand to be. A highly memorable moment. But. Is it going to be worth it. With the anguish. She's going through. I don't know. Yesterday. In the day. I don't know. It's tough. It's tough. If she finds out you're coming. I can't play. I'll get my act on for moms. I wonder about the. The past performances. Of. Steini and his partner. Like. He has an older daughter. Who's now married. How many.
05:17of her. Family. Weekends. Did you go to. For Joe's. Josie. Um. What was it. Cal. So. It was a lot easier. Oh. You weren't here. Did you go four for four. Probably not. And. For your middle daughter. Grace. Once or twice. Because she was in England. She's in England. Yeah. Yeah. I can tell you that I went 0 for 8. For my kids. Parents weekend. Hit the pike. I'm going to fly down. Not once. Whatever. 0 for 8. Rats ass dude. I'm 0 for 8. Come on.
05:47Get to. Yeah. Like. I. I. What about this. Y'all ever been in one of those games. Where the military person comes back. And the family. Oh that. I have no idea. I've witnessed that. That's incredible. Right. Like. So. This is kind of a. Steini you're a lightweight version here. We don't know before the game. If that wife and kid have been crying every day. That's a great example. For 14 days. That's a good point. And. And. And. And. The Golden State Warriors just kept it from them. That's true. I mean. That is true. That's extreme. But I'm. Yeah. I mean.
06:17It's coming home. And we're not going to tell you. That's true. And what's your plan for the surprise moment. Because you fly at 430 ish. Which means you land at probably 930 or 10. 1030. 1030. Right. And so if she. If she is like awake. She's probably out and about. Yeah. She's. So. There are. She's got a group of friends and their parents are coming in. So they're including her in whatever they're doing. Right. And they know. We know where they'll be at. Do the other parents know you're coming? Yes. Like. I think she might know.
06:47But. You think she is. And that's why she said that. I'd be surprised if her. Little sophomore friends at college could keep their mouths shut. Well. It sounds like they have. I know. I know. So we'll see how it plays out. This is great. I love it. All right. Brock Purdy. Yeah. He's the quarterback in the Niners. Yeah. Yeah. But for how long? Willard. Is it. No. Seriously. What. What. What. What. Well. Here's my question. He's not playing for his job. This is maybe. This is my campy silly answer. I can't take it. And I heard the morning show making fun of me for. What.
07:17They say I missed it. I think they used the word that I was always trying to slurp up the team. I think that's what Shasky said. Oh. I missed it. I gotta go back and listen. Like it was one of those where I literally got. You ever do this where you get in the car. Oh yeah. And you hit the button and the thing comes on and the first thing. Like Willard's out of slurping on the night. I'm like oh my god. It's happened to you boy. I still have gunk in my eyes. Can you let me wake up. It's happened to me. I got sick. But anyway. There it is. All good. But. But. The discourse right now. I do not just mean you two. Yeah.
07:47The discourse sounds to me. So much like all the. All the things that could go wrong. And I keep thinking to myself. And maybe this is the. Screwed that's loose in my head. What about all the things that could go right. I firmly believe that the 49ers on December 14th will be at least nine and five. Maybe ten and four.
08:14Um. They are better than these teams. And I am not nervous about Brock Purdy. Messing it up. Some of the scenarios that you throw out today Stiney. Wonderful. Well but it's not like the concept that Brock would come out and look like he's throwing with his left arm and has never played quarterback. No no no no. And the Niners won't lose multiple games because of him. No you were throwing. I never said because of him. No you said. I'm throwing scenarios.
08:44Right. They're hypotheticals. Right. I'm not saying that they're. But they are so far fetched. What do you mean? The idea. Like even. What if he comes back and he looks like he looked the first two games he quarterbacked this year?
08:58Well first of all. The first game of the year they won. Okay. And Shanahan seems to believe he played a very good game. Alright. But even the Jacksonville game. He turned the ball over. It wasn't a good performance. But it wasn't like laughably awful. Like he looked like a Browns quarterback or something.
09:18So I guess. Has Brock ever looked like that? Maybe on Christmas against Baltimore. Do people want to bring that up? Has Brock ever gone out and you're just like he looks incompetent?
09:29Well he's got to look better than Mack doesn't he? His worst game was Baltimore. Actually. Yeah. And I actually don't. I don't. Not. Like in game one?
09:37Well no. But that's my thing. That's my question. And Mack is not a one thing. Mack has looked different every time he's played. Some have been. And same thing. Never has he been laughably bad. No.
09:50I'd argue the last time he played Arizona he wasn't very good. So you didn't like when I said would you let Brock Purdy quarterback you out of the playoff race?
09:58Like this is what I took offense to. Well. I mean what does that mean?
10:02Well okay. I'll tell you what it means. Like Guru said. Well he's a starting quarterback no matter what. Like for the rest of the year no matter what. And I was like. If he's healthy. If he's healthy. And I was like. You know.
10:11What does my mind go to? You're going to let him quarterback them to a 1-6 finish? I mean probably not. What if he goes 33 for 39 and they lose 42 to whatever it was last week?
10:23Guru kept saying that. Is that him quarterbacking them out of the playoffs? I'm hearing this.
10:27So Stiney I do think that your hypothetical is intriguing and it's kind of fun. But it all depends on how it looks. And if you want to look at last night and a quarterback who's quarterbacking himself out of the league.
10:40Justin Fields is not a quarterback. I'm sorry.
10:43The last time a team had this few yards per game passing was him in Chicago. So that is him quarterbacking not a team out of the playoffs because the Jets aren't very good anyway.
10:54But he's quarterbacking himself out of the league.
10:57I'm the president of the black quarterback delegation and we got rid of him. That was offensive. He should be a receiver. I'm saying it all. I tried to write. Oh and he's not a quarterback.
11:09He's so bad.
11:09And I tried to defend him.
11:11He's been so bad this year.
11:12Dude what was that Diz that you went there? Reg B my buddy hit me like this is awful.
11:17He's Taysom Hill.
11:18Wow.
11:19If you had him as Taysom Hill it'd be like man this dude's a great player.
11:22Taysom Hill.
11:23He also has nothing.
11:25He has. First of all I don't think. I don't think they have a good play calling.
11:29I don't think they've got a good offensive line.
11:31They've got nothing.
11:31But now we're talking about multiple spots.
11:33Yeah when he does uncork a good throw.
11:36This A.D. Mitchell guy from Indy lets the ball go right through his hands.
11:40Garrett Wilson is hurt.
11:41These are not excuses.
11:42He's been awful.
11:44Man dude.
11:44But he has nothing.
11:45Right.
11:45The organization.
11:47The only thing they had they gave away last week.
11:49Yeah.
11:50And I only bring it up to talk about Brock Purdy.
11:53No no no.
11:53If Brock Purdy.
11:54I got the Holy Ghost.
11:55If Brock Purdy can go out and play great and they can lose.
11:58He can play bad and they can win.
11:59So all of the nuance of it Stiney and you're a man of nuance and you love it.
12:04I do think that you have to look at how it looks and how they do before we start to make these big statements.
12:09I'll buy your premise.
12:11No it's not Sharpie done.
12:13And he starts every game in the rest of the year.
12:16I don't think that's true necessarily for anyone.
12:19But why?
12:19But the concept of either one of them going out against this schedule and just both of them.
12:27Either one of them just suddenly being so bad in this offense.
12:32I just I don't see that as viable.
12:35That's like that's fair.
12:36But what about like I think I think turnovers are going to be important like if like he can't turn the ball over.
12:44That's one thing Mac Jones did pretty well right at ball security.
12:48Absolutely.
12:48At least in the two games like that's what I that's kind of what I'm thinking about like he could actually play pretty well.
12:55But I think earlier this year he had two picks and a fumble in a game like that was the Jacksonville game.
13:00Right.
13:00Like that it can't be sloppy like that.
13:04So Will would you be disappointed if they somehow lose to Arizona after we know the Arizona game they could easily won with Fred Warner here.
13:13Would you be upset and I know it's hard to ask you that without knowing what happened but if they come back without a win against this Cardinal team.
13:21I'd be disappointed.
13:22I can't tell you yet about upset until I see the scenario that leads to it.
13:26But Arizona is super banged up.
13:28Yeah.
13:28He was saying mentally as well like they they've kind of yeah gone sideways.
13:33They're actually not that bad of a team but like you'll remember the game against Tennessee earlier this year like they've done some things that have just ruined their season and load some games.
13:42Ruined their sideline and ruined their vibe and now they're in quarterback hell.
13:47And so you're kind of you're kind of going after the the wounded gazelle here.
13:53But yeah still they're viable like Brissette's not terrible and the Niner defense is not good.
13:59And that so like yeah they're dangerous.
14:02They're dangerous.
14:03You're listening to 95.7 The Game KGMZ FM and HD1 San Francisco and Odyssey Sports Station in the home of the Warriors and Valkyries live on the free Odyssey app.
14:12And now coming to you from the Laughing Monk Studios.
14:15Laughing Monk righteously brewed in the city.
14:18If you hear something scratching in your walls that's not the house settling.
14:21It's rodents moving in.
14:22Once they find warmth they make themselves at home and cause damage fast.
14:27Atco Pest Control removes them.
14:29Closes entry points and helps keep them out for good.
14:32Keep your space protected this fall.
14:34At AtcoPestControl.com.
14:36Atco Pest Control.
14:37Your defense against unwanted guests.
14:40Mention you heard about Atco Pest Control on the What's Bugging You segment.
14:45And you get $10 off any rodent treatment this month.
14:48Let's start with Mark.
14:50Yeah thank you.
14:51I do want to go first.
14:52I know a lot of times we do something kind of just like light and fun.
14:57All day.
14:57I have something very very specific to get out there.
15:01To get off my chest.
15:03It's near and dear to my heart.
15:04It is near and dear very much so to my wife's heart.
15:06Her daughters.
15:08And so this message is directed at the superintendent of Tamalpais High School District.
15:13Dr. Courtney Good.
15:15And her entire school board.
15:17She just took over this summer.
15:19So she's a brand new superintendent.
15:22And she is on the verge of making a horrible horrible decision.
15:26And as always when you take over a new job and you're the boss.
15:30What's the first thing?
15:31Budget cuts.
15:31Right?
15:32That's the first thing.
15:32Right.
15:33They want to do.
15:34And once again what happens when people in charge get the idea of budget cuts.
15:39They go right after those who in my opinion need that budget the most.
15:45So Dr. Good just took over and here come the budget cuts.
15:50So the proposal on the table would merge two of the districts smaller but specialized schools.
15:56Okay.
15:57This is in southern Marin County.
16:00Okay.
16:00One of those schools is Tamascal High School.
16:03It's an independent study program that has helped out both of my stepdaughters in an immeasurable way.
16:10Changed their lives.
16:11My son attended there for a time too.
16:13They want to merge that independent study school with San Andreas which is a closed campus because that is for the safety and well-being of the students that need that program.
16:23These programs are both necessities.
16:25They are both not at all the same.
16:28In fact in many ways the students who need one of these programs they need the opposite things that the other programs students need.
16:38So blending them together is flat out irresponsible.
16:43I don't want to get overly wordy here but here it is.
16:45The bottom line and in corporate America or whatever we've all experienced this.
16:50This is yet another example of when budget cuts are needed they go right to those who don't have the power or the voice or the standing and they take the resources from those who need it most.
17:02I have watched this school work magic with my own eyes and my own heart.
17:07There are a thousand ways to cut budgets especially in Marin County where resources are often overflowing as we know.
17:16So you have to please stop taking the resources from those who need it most.
17:23This proposal calls for the entire budget cut to come from those two schools and not touch the other three.
17:29So to all of our listeners I ask you to help us save Tamiscal High School by sending an email to Dr. Courtney Good.
17:39Her email address is cgoode at tamdistrict.org.
17:47Write save Tamiscal.
17:50If you need more info on that or if you need that address again DM me on Instagram.
17:55It's MT Willard.
17:56I'll give you more information off the soapbox.
17:59Thank you for the time.
18:00No it's great and it's funny the way you laid that out because my sister Hurricane Gail shot her out.
18:05She went to San Andreas and she went there because she got thrown out of Drake High School as a sophomore for punching the third baseman of San Rafael High.
18:15The third baseman at San Rafael High was saying to my sister oh after the game I'm going to beat you up.
18:20I'm going to beat you up.
18:21And my sister's like cool all right so post game bring it this girl's like be bopping along like walking in the parking lot.
18:28And my sister's like what and the third baseman of the other team was like oh I was just kidding.
18:33And Gail's like I wasn't Pam right in the face.
18:37My parents got actually a bill from the other girl's dentist for like whatever 72 bucks.
18:43It was the 80s and Gail got kicked out and she went to San Andreas but to your point Tamiscal is more for the I'm having a hard time studying and learning.
18:52You go here San Andreas bad boy bad boys what you're going to do so you're going to combine a school and I'm not saying that my sister was bad but I'm saying my sister was bad.
19:02One of the classes she had was actually smoking 101.
19:08Come on Dibs.
19:09They were allowed to smoke at school.
19:10These scenarios and these sets of kids and their needs they're completely different.
19:16So to dump them together is so it's irresponsible it's dismissive.
19:21Y'all should ever see what a graduation looks like at one of these schools.
19:25It's very different.
19:26It's not just yay let's throw a hat in the air and go have a fancy dinner.
19:29These are people who are in tears because these schools saved their lives.
19:34When is this supposed to take effect?
19:36Well the board meeting is Tuesday night and they are trying to push this through quickly obviously because of the time of year and what not.
19:43So we're on alert on it.
19:45My sister actually got an A- in license plate making and she got a B- in rock pile.
19:50That sounds like the P in.
19:52Totally.
19:53Anyway.
19:53I'm trying to lighten it up.
19:55I appreciate it.
19:56Yes onward.
19:57Onward onward.
19:58I'll lighten it up.
19:58Oh go ahead Stan.
20:00Mine's going to be good.
20:01You already.
20:03So I'm wearing Birkenstocks today which a lot of people apparently find funny.
20:07I was one of them.
20:08As a 60 year old.
20:08Yeah.
20:09And it's raining.
20:10Closed toed though.
20:10And it's raining.
20:12It is closed toed.
20:13That's what I'm saying.
20:14And I'm taking a flight.
20:17You realize you have to untie your shoes then put them back on if you take a flight.
20:21That's why I had my flip flops on.
20:23You ripped me.
20:24Bare feet.
20:25You ought to be ashamed.
20:27I have socks on and they're comfortable to travel in.
20:33So Evan started me off on the wrong foot today by going, what are those?
20:36Pun intended.
20:37They are.
20:38Nice.
20:38Nice.
20:38They are.
20:39They're traveling shoes.
20:41So there you go.
20:42That's what.
20:43That was what.
20:43I'm bugging me.
20:44Closed toed with socks.
20:45I'll allow it.
20:46I'll allow it.
20:46Even if it's raining guys.
20:48And I'm out.
20:49Look out the window.
20:50Yeah.
20:50It's 75 and sunny.
20:51And what if it starts raining?
20:53And it is here too.
20:54It's beautiful.
20:54I short sleeved it on the walk today through the city.
20:57It's beautiful.
20:57I'm going to get mine.
20:58You're fine.
20:58I'm just sensitive because my wife, my new wife now has me dressing up for flights.
21:02And I was always like.
21:03Yeah.
21:04Jammies and flip flops.
21:05Seriously.
21:06Yeah.
21:07Anyway.
21:07I'm with you.
21:07I'll just tell you what's.
21:10But my boy Galen.
21:11Galen Fanny.
21:12Shout out.
21:13Double A Concrete.
21:14When you ask people for a betting tip.
21:19And they get it wrong because you use it.
21:22You cannot have the license to send a threatening test message.
21:26Show that you're mad.
21:28All I'm.
21:28Do your own homework.
21:30But I'm noticing my friends are asking me for some plays.
21:33I give them.
21:34They don't hit.
21:34But I wouldn't dare do that to the numerous people that I ask.
21:38Hey.
21:38What are you thinking?
21:39So.
21:40I'm just noticing.
21:41A lot of people are doubling back.
21:43I gave my boy Galen a winner.
21:44I thought.
21:45And it didn't come through.
21:47And I look down and get a text message saying.
21:49Thanks a lot.
21:51If you're going to ask for tips.
21:53Do your own homework or research.
21:55But don't get mad at your friend.
21:57For giving you what they thought was a lock.
22:00If it loses.
22:00I just.
22:01That's whack to me.
22:02And I'm getting a lot of it.
22:04Yeah.
22:04Fade the girl.
22:05Whoa.
22:06Whoa.
22:06But you know.
22:07Like.
22:07Come on man.
22:08I get it.
22:09It's my fault.
22:10Yeah.
22:10I had the Jets plus 12 and a half last night.
22:12Oh God.
22:13I'm laughing.
22:13They lost by 13.
22:14They all were laughing.
22:15They did a whole big thing on Fade the Denver.
22:18Well.
22:19I don't want to be the guy to bring it all like way, way down.
22:21But it has to be said.
22:23And what's bugging me is not only guns in society.
22:27But it's guns in Oakland.
22:28And it's what happened two days ago at Skyline High.
22:31And it's what happened yesterday at Laney College.
22:33Jesus.
22:34Over there in Oakland.
22:35And John Beam.
22:36Who many of you know.
22:37And if you didn't know him.
22:39It's too bad because he was amazing.
22:41And I cut my teeth as Stiney did in this business.
22:44Covering high school sports.
22:46And one of the high school teams I covered was Skyline High.
22:49In the late 80s.
22:51The 90s.
22:51In the 00s.
22:52And John Beam was the head coach.
22:53And if you ever watched Last Chance U.
22:56You know who John Beam is.
22:58And yesterday he was just going about his business as the athletic director.
23:01And he's sitting in his office in the field house.
23:03At Laney College over there in Oakland by the lake.
23:06And somebody came in.
23:07A young man who's 27 and now in custody.
23:10And he just shot him in the head.
23:12And Coach Beam unfortunately today passed away.
23:15Wow, man.
23:15And you know, he is one of these people that you aspire to be.
23:20He has worked in Oakland for 40 years.
23:22He's inspired multiple generations of young people.
23:26He had chances to leave Oakland and take on bigger and better jobs.
23:30But he wanted to be here.
23:32And we look up right now at ESPN.
23:34And there it is.
23:35Breaking news.
23:37Last Chance U.
23:37Coach John Beam dies at age 66 after being shot on campus.
23:41The tragedy of Coach Beam is, I think,
23:45just a raindrop amid a storm of what's wrong and what's really bugging me.
23:50And it's the proliferation of guns.
23:53It's the gun violence.
23:54And it's also, guys, the desperation in Oakland.
23:58Stiney, you've lived there for 30 years now.
24:00And you see it firsthand.
24:01Goo, you're born and raised in the East Bay.
24:03And Mark, you've been around forever.
24:04It's like we're in a spot where young people are so desperate.
24:08And there's so much angst.
24:10And there's so much of an ability to have guns that these things happen.
24:13And so I'm just gutted.
24:15My thoughts go out to everyone touched by this.
24:17And obviously Coach Beam's family and so many people who he touched.
24:21And this one just hits different.
24:23Somebody who was there for four decades.
24:25And didn't leave and had the chance to leave the team.
24:28And even when he retired from coaching last year,
24:30he stayed on as the athletic director.
24:32And this young man, I don't believe, ever played for him.
24:35I don't know what his connection with Beam was
24:37and what his anger toward him was.
24:39But this one just hits really, really super hard for me.
24:42Yeah, I appreciate you pointing that out.
24:44I was with Stani and Evan at the cafeteria, and we got the news.
24:48Yeah.
24:49All right.
24:49It's got to stop, Dibs.
24:50Yeah.
24:51Well, Godspeed to the family.
24:53And I'm just going to let it there.
24:56Everybody try to have a great weekend.
24:59Love your family and friends on 95.7 The Game.
