00:00My ass is the problem.
00:02Those bikes are brutal on the ass.
00:04Now, back to Stiney and Guru on 95.7 The Game.
00:09All right, it's time for the crossover brought to you by Bay Alarm.
00:12Rest easy.
00:13We've got you covered.
00:14Bayalarm.com.
00:15It is crossover time.
00:17Let's welcome in Willard and Debs.
00:19And the 49ers have a new wide receiver, Mike Evans.
00:22Who saw that?
00:24Not me.
00:25He was on my list this morning.
00:26I know everybody thought Dobbs.
00:28Yeah.
00:28Romeo Dobbs.
00:30Evans is better than Romeo.
00:31He's older, but he's better when healthy.
00:34I think that the 49ers, and maybe this is two milk and cookies for people.
00:38I know a lot of people don't care about who their athletes are.
00:43They just want success.
00:44But I'm thinking back to Romeo Dobbs caused some issues with the Packers
00:49a year or two ago.
00:52And listening to Stroud with you guys, that was awesome, by the way.
00:56Yeah, he was good.
00:57I mean, Mike Evans sounds like about as good of a dude as you could possibly find
01:02who's also a great player.
01:04I think the 49ers care about that stuff.
01:06No knuckleheads.
01:07I think they must because, you know, A.J. Brown is out there,
01:13and we've heard his name.
01:14But, I mean, it just feels like Mike Evans fits exactly what they want to do,
01:20which is give it another crack at it next year,
01:23and he automatically becomes their number one receiver, right,
01:28and probably the best receiver that has been here in the Shanahan Lynch here.
01:33And he blocks.
01:34And, I mean, you have to block to get the rock, as we know here in this offense.
01:38And so he'll come out and be a willing blocker, as Rick Stroud told you guys.
01:41And I think you asked him that about him and blocking toward the end of the interview.
01:45And he's like, yeah, not only will he block, but he actually goes out there and seeks to block.
01:50And that's where, when you lose Juwan Jennings, and they will,
01:53unless Juwan gets no offers and he comes back for peanuts, which I don't think he will,
01:58that's what Juwan was so good at, was blocking.
02:01And so Mike Evans, great receiver, Hall of Fame, first ballot.
02:0450-50 balls.
02:05He wants to block 50-50 balls.
02:07And also the idea of the red zone, and I did this for our show, but I'll share it with
02:11you.
02:11The Niners last year scored, I believe, 49 red zone, or 49 touchdowns,
02:1743 red zone, only seven by wide receivers.
02:21Wow.
02:22McCaffrey had 17.
02:23And this dude, that's what he eats at.
02:25That's what he does.
02:25Yeah, that's what he does.
02:26But all, I mean, they had, Abuka had a few, and Evans had a few,
02:29and they had a couple, two or three other guys who got wide receiver touchdowns.
02:34He's definitely the most accomplished receiver that Kyle's worked with here with the 49ers.
02:37I know he had Julio at his height in Atlanta as an OC.
02:41But I would pause on that, like what you just said.
02:45Like he walks in the room, and he's automatically the Niners' clear-cut number one receiver.
02:51Remember, he played half a year last year, went for 368 yards.
02:55He's going to be 33 years old, and they are paying him like a number two wide receiver.
03:00It's great if he does, if he comes in and becomes a 1,000-yard receiver and all that.
03:04I'm going to keep stressing this all offseason long.
03:07You've all jumped the gun on Ricky Pearsall being overly injury-prone.
03:12That's a first-round draft pick whose metrics when he plays are elite.
03:17And if he is healthy, they both have big ifs.
03:20If he's healthy, I would still expect him to get more balls than Mike.
03:24See, I would think Evans should be their leading receiver next year if he can stay healthy.
03:31Why?
03:32He's 33 years old.
03:33Well, because if you look at his track record outside last year, I mean,
03:37he's got 1,000 yards every single year.
03:4011 touchdowns in 2024.
03:42Pearsall, you know, has yet to put a whole season together.
03:46You know, do they want to throw it to McCaffrey for 1,000 yards through the air?
03:52I don't know.
03:53I just think if this guy's as good as, you know, we think he is,
03:57even at this age, he should be able to be pretty good for the 49ers.
04:01I mean, look at, and I know he's not the exact same kind of receiver, but, you know,
04:05Anquan Bolden, when he got here, I saw was 33.
04:09And he had two years where he caught balls for 1,000 yards.
04:13He was obviously a really physical receiver.
04:16But, you know, he's got to produce for him, though, too.
04:19Oh, for sure.
04:20And you're allowed to have 2,000-yard receivers here, by the way.
04:23Like, that's not his job.
04:24Pearsall's job's going to be easier now, and vice versa.
04:26Everybody should be.
04:27I mean, I mean, he's got to get out there.
04:29That's all Pearsall.
04:29Of course, they all do.
04:30They all do.
04:31Mike, they both played, what, half the year last year.
04:33That's what they both played.
04:35So let's see if both of them can play 15 or more this year.
04:39They're both very, very good.
04:40I mean, Stiney's line earlier was pretty funny.
04:43Like, the two brothers have an agreement to play no more than 20 games combined.
04:47That was an agreement.
04:48Mean-spirited but funny.
04:49Who was the other?
04:51You're welcome.
04:55Joey Bosa, but who's the other name that we, oh, the older guy?
04:59That they've been linked to, too.
05:01Another old guy.
05:02Pass rusher?
05:03Hendrickson.
05:04No, it was somebody else.
05:05I can't remember.
05:06You were texting me about Clowney.
05:07Yeah, yeah.
05:08Oh, did you?
05:09Yeah.
05:09Janame.
05:10I don't think that.
05:10I haven't heard that from anybody.
05:12He had nice sacks for Dallas last year.
05:133.5 M's.
05:15Not much.
05:16Yeah.
05:17You don't like Clowney?
05:18I mean, I don't not like Clowney, but I'm just...
05:21He ain't an every down dude by any stretch.
05:23Yeah.
05:23It doesn't move.
05:24The Niners don't play anybody every down.
05:27So, I mean, you're looking for a three down guy, but, you know, defensively, you're looking
05:31at a guy who can be, you know, a rush stopper and also a pass rusher, but you don't really
05:36have those guys.
05:37And, you know, Bosa off an ACL and Mikel Williams off an ACL.
05:41So, you definitely need to bring in somebody else, I think, on that D-line.
05:45Oh, the other guy was Debo.
05:47Oh, okay.
05:47Oh.
05:49He's out there.
05:50Yeah.
05:51I mean, it depends on the price.
05:53Would you laugh if...
05:54Go ahead, Debo.
05:54No, go ahead.
05:55No, I was going to say, would you laugh if they played and a reunion was in order?
05:59I don't mind it now because, like, I saw someone earlier say, I don't mind if Debo is a move,
06:05he can't be the move.
06:06Oh, okay.
06:07Well, yeah.
06:07And I was like, I kind of feel that.
06:09So, you know, but now I'd be very surprised.
06:13How does Debo fit what you're doing?
06:16They've already said they want to get younger and faster.
06:20Mike Evans is not younger and faster.
06:22We've been getting that on the text line.
06:24You heard John Lynch at the Combine call out Jacob Cowing and say he needs to be a bigger
06:30part and he needs to stay healthy.
06:32I mean, the people that we call injury prone, when Jacob Cowing has been sitting over here
06:36for two years, can't get on the field.
06:38So, like, that has to be, their third and fourth receivers probably need to be some
06:44of those guys.
06:45It's kind of the opposite of Debo.
06:47I don't know, man.
06:49Nostalgia is something that lives on social media a hell of a lot more than in real life
06:53and in general manager phone calls.
06:56Well, you've got Jacob Cowing and you've got Jordan Watkins, right, that are both.
07:00He's getting those managers there, too.
07:02Well, yeah, and that's the guy who, I mean, right now he is your number three, assuming
07:06Juwan's gone and Kendrick's gone and Iuka's gone, fine.
07:09Then Robinson's your three last year.
07:12And Cowing, he had, last year he had, well, no catches, but the year before he had four
07:17catches, so he's been able to catch the ball.
07:20That's two per year, Dibs.
07:21But I think that either Cowing is going to be done and gone.
07:25Bourne's gone, I think.
07:26Yeah, I don't think he's coming.
07:27Yeah, I don't think so.
07:28Maybe, more likely than Jennings, I think.
07:30If you look at the depth chart, Jennings for sure, I believe, is gone.
07:33Right now you've got Evans and Pearsall, one and 1A, one and two, whatever, whatever they
07:38are.
07:39And then, you know, you normally play a lot with just two receivers.
07:42So your number three guy, Demarcus Robinson, is going to be a guy who can be specialty.
07:47He can go deep.
07:48He can go over the middle.
07:49And now you're looking for the depth.
07:50And maybe you look at the draft and you want to get the next Jordan Watkins, a guy who,
07:55you know, won't be healthy enough to play, or the next Jacob Cowing, somebody who won't
07:59ever really play.
08:00So, I mean, you either go in the draft and roll the dice again, or you try to find somebody
08:05on, like, day three of free agency, I think.
08:08I mean, we just got started here.
08:10What have you just been going for?
08:10Five hours, right?
08:12Yeah, I got you.
08:12Like, they got a lot of other things to do.
08:14I am very, very fascinated to see what they do at running back.
08:18They don't know who their left guard is going to be.
08:21They need another pass rusher.
08:23The draft is coming.
08:24They just got three comp picks in the fourth round.
08:26They thought they'd only get two.
08:27That's a positive.
08:29So, I mean, it's just getting started.
08:31But, like I said.
08:32Are you out on Robinson?
08:34Brian Robinson?
08:35Yeah.
08:36I think they can do better.
08:37I don't mind if he's a piece.
08:39But Christian needs somebody who has a similar skill set so that Christian's not out there
08:45as much, I think.
08:46No doubt.
08:47And I did a full dive, and after Stiney does the legal, I'll tell you what my research shows.
08:52You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ FM, and HD1 San Francisco, an Odyssey sports station,
08:58always live on the free Odyssey app, and now broadcasting from the Laughing Monk Studios.
09:0320 times since the year 2000, a player has had 400 touches or more.
09:0820 times.
09:08Okay.
09:08Of those 20, only three of them did that in year nine of their career or later.
09:14The other 17, and LT did it three times, by the way, and that guy is just unbelievable.
09:20But you had Tiki Barber.
09:22He had 411.
09:24Would have never guessed.
09:24The next year, he had 385, and that was the last year of his career.
09:28Curtis Martin, year 10, had 412 touches.
09:32Came back, had 244, and then he retired.
09:35And now McCaffrey will be the third guy.
09:38It was his ninth year, and he had 413 touches, and we'll see.
09:42But what the history and the research has shown me is more often than not,
09:48Edgeron James went from 450 to 175.
09:50He got hurt.
09:52You had, you know, Larry Johnson, KC, 457.
09:56He went down to 188.
09:58He got hurt.
09:59So to Mark's point, running back-wise, Brian Robinson, sure,
10:03but you probably need somebody else, and then maybe somebody else else.
10:07I like a pass catcher, too.
10:09You know what I mean?
10:10I know Gainwell was interesting to people.
10:12I thought Tyler Algier was interesting.
10:14They're both gone.
10:15I think Rashad White from Tampa is still a, let's keep plucking bucks.
10:20But you help me figure this out.
10:22Let's just pluck some bucks.
10:23Why is Kyle not using Robinson more?
10:25Now he didn't have that skill set that McCaffrey had.
10:28Had he, we probably would have seen him more.
10:29I mean, like, I don't know.
10:32Last year was Christian right, Christian left.
10:35Everything.
10:36Right?
10:37Constant.
10:37You know, Christian fight, fight, fight.
10:39I don't think they can do that this year.
10:40So they've got to be more ready to have somebody who can at least try to do some similar things.
10:46I like Rashad White.
10:49Go ahead, Stiney.
10:50Well, I was just thinking, like, when I'm thinking about what the 49ers need,
10:54it's obviously O-line and D-line, and now they took care of the receivers.
10:57Man, I was under the assumption that, yeah, you know,
11:02Brian Robinson will probably pick up more of the slack next year than he did this past year.
11:07You think they need another one, though?
11:09I don't know that Brian Robinson is going to be on the 49ers this year.
11:11Really?
11:12I mean, I don't know why he didn't, you know, carry it a little more last year,
11:17but that probably tells you what Kyle thought of him.
11:19I mean, Washington also dumped him for a fifth without really any other answer at that position either.
11:24Yeah.
11:24You know, that's two teams that were kind of like, eh.
11:26But when I saw him on the field, I didn't see, like, oh, this dude's done or has nothing.
11:31No.
11:31There were some times I'm like, give it to him again.
11:33He's fine.
11:34The problem last year was, even with McCaffrey, you couldn't run the ball.
11:38So he couldn't run it.
11:40Robinson couldn't run it.
11:41And so what you only had, really, was McCaffrey out of the backfield as a pass catcher,
11:45which is why he had, checks notes, 413 touches in the regular season, because you needed him as a receiver.
11:52You didn't have Kittle for a while.
11:54You had no Iuke.
11:55We know that.
11:56You had Jawan.
11:57At times you had Jawan and Tonjes.
12:00You had no Ricky.
12:02You had not much.
12:03So it was, boy, let's get McCaffrey the ball everywhere we can.
12:07Can I give another compliment to Kyle Shanahan?
12:09Okay.
12:09I think this is interesting.
12:11We're five hours into free agency.
12:13Of all of the 49ers free agents, do you know how many of them have signed elsewhere?
12:19Probably zero.
12:21Correct.
12:22Wow.
12:23Now, maybe that's a little thing.
12:27It's just, again, the Niners won 13 games and just had, just smoke and mirrors all over the freaking place.
12:33But who are their free agents?
12:35Well, Jawan, Brian Robinson.
12:37I mean, two of the guys we just sat here talking about are two of them.
12:39These are not day one guys, though.
12:41And the majority of the people who've gone.
12:43I mean.
12:44Right.
12:44Is somebody going to give Jawan the contract that Mike Evans got?
12:47I don't know.
12:4749ers just signed someone named Verdarian.
12:49Like, I mean, day one doesn't mean only the front line people.
12:52I get that.
12:52But if you're Jawan, you're not going to take a, you know, like a back line, back burner deal.
12:57You're hoping for more.
12:59And so if you're Jawan and Evans signs for 60, three and 60, well, is Jawan going to get more
13:06than that?
13:07No chance.
13:07I wouldn't think.
13:08But it's not going to be a lot less than 20.
13:11It's not.
13:11It's going to be more than 15.
13:12Oh, I would bet it's going to be a lot less than 20.
13:14I don't think so.
13:15I don't think so.
13:16Like, I mean, Alec Pierce just got $29 million.
13:20Right.
13:20He's better than Jawan.
13:21I was just about to say.
13:23His numbers are pretty commensurate with Jawan Jennings.
13:26Numbers are numbers and numbers are numbers.
13:27Well, I mean, but that's how the negotiators are going to play it.
13:29Sure.
13:30You know what I mean?
13:30But if you're a football person, you're going to look at Jawan and say, well, his numbers are bolstered by
13:34the fact that they had nobody.
13:36I mean, you're down to a few wide receivers left.
13:39It's been an active day at that position.
13:41Like, it's not much.
13:42We don't have to spend.
13:43Wandale is gone.
13:44Yep.
13:44And Alec Pierce is gone and Mike Evans is gone and, you know, it's Jawan and Romeo Dobbs and the
13:51bin, the little Target dollar bin, that thing when you walk in, you're like, oh, look, dealy boppers are in
13:57there for a dollar.
13:58That's where we're getting there fast.
14:00I don't know.
14:01Wide receiver, all of them make more money than I'd pay them.
14:05All of them.
14:06I think it's the most bananas position in sports when it comes to salaries.
14:09Yeah, I think another big issue is if you're Brock Purdy, do you offer Mike Evans number 13?
14:18We were having some fun with this.
14:21He was on Twitter saying 13.
14:22He put 13 on the welcome here.
14:25He put 13.
14:26You wait for Mike to come knock on your door and then, yeah, Mike, how you doing?
14:30I'm Brock.
14:31Yeah.
14:31Hey, Brock, I'm going to give you $700 for your number.
14:35All right, Mike, I'll see you at camp.
14:37Like, come on.
14:38What are we talking about here?
14:39What a wonderful team building here that would be from Purdy.
14:42I say it the other way.
14:43The way you guys got that conversation going with Rick Stroud, I bet you Mike Evans, the type of walk
14:49-in, wouldn't even think of asking.
14:51I don't think he would either.
14:52That's why what a gesture from Brock.
14:55And if I were Mike, I'd say, no, thanks.
14:56This is your team.
14:57And if you're Brock, that's my number, dog.
14:59Yeah.
15:00Hell.
15:01Apparently he wore 14th for the Niners.
15:03Yeah, so he texted us before he got the gig.
15:05I think Mike wore number four playing, like, high school basketball.
15:10It's the last time he wore something other than 13.
15:12Yeah, Stroud said he could get who?
15:13Yeah.
15:14It could be a problem early.
15:15Who wore number four?
15:16You liking it early?
15:17No, I'm worried about it early.
15:19Not liking it early.
15:20A little push-pull.
15:21Yeah.
15:22I got to get in a Warrior Nugget.
15:24Okay.
15:24So I didn't hear the Hall of Famer on with you Friday.
15:26I was with Stiney.
15:28You know where we at.
15:29What we were doing.
15:30Mark Spears.
15:32And I got it Saturday night.
15:33And I just want to ask you two where, not where you floored, just your thoughts on him
15:37saying Steph thinks they're going to get a big boy this summer as if it was, like, imminent.
15:43I thought that was aggregated a little bit oddly.
15:46Just my take on it.
15:47Anyway, I don't think Mark was being that definitive.
15:52Steph is getting a Hall of Fame edition this offseason.
15:55The internet likes to grab it and do that.
15:58That's why I looked at him.
15:59So that's why we didn't dig that hard because I don't think that's what Mark was saying.
16:03I think that Mark is echoing that that's what the Warriors are, like, kind of always trying to do.
16:09And tried with Kawhi, apparently, already.
16:12So that we know.
16:13And I've told you that LeBron, they're going to talk to LeBron.
16:15I'm telling you, they're going to talk to LeBron.
16:17And he says they already tried.
16:18Yeah, I don't know if they're going to get him.
16:20But, like, yeah, I think that's where their head's at.
16:23I thought Saturday was a good ball game.
16:26Yeah.
16:27I mean, you can't ask for more than what they're given.
16:29Good moral victory, right?
16:30And I'm not into him, but that was one.
16:34The answer was close.
16:35Sure.
16:36Sure.
16:37I mean, it was more than a moral victory for no other reason than a poor Zingas played.
16:42Yeah.
16:42And he's going to play tomorrow.
16:44Tomorrow.
16:45Did you hear my count?
16:47Yeah, Mark had his own numbers for Kaminga.
16:48Did you hear my numbers?
16:49No.
16:49What are your numbers?
16:50Mark thinks they're his, Donnie.
16:51Before, when you were out, he went over them.
16:54Three of 11 games.
16:55He's played one more than Kaminga.
16:56Oh, yeah.
16:57Kaminga's played three of 11 for Atlanta.
16:59And poor Zingas has played two of 12 for the Warriors.
17:02But he's going to jump the three for 14.
17:05And so Kaminga's got to play in the next three games.
17:08You're a move, Jonathan.
17:09Yeah.
17:10Man.
17:10You're a move.
17:11It is funny.
17:12You weren't feeling the whole moral victory, huh?
17:15No.
17:15It was fun to watch a team not just get blown out on principle.
17:19And they hung in there.
17:20And they did their level best.
17:21And then all the Pods haters got paid off with about a minute left.
17:25Pods gets the ball down two.
17:27But you ain't being fair if you've got to wait to that to use that.
17:30I mean, you're not in the game without him.
17:31All the Pods haters got their payoff when he dribbled in and tried to do his whole SGA thing
17:38and lean in and throw up some bull Schmidt, make sure Granny's listening, like half heave,
17:45looking for the foul.
17:46And I didn't think that that was a terrible play.
17:49But by and large, if you're anti-Pods, you look at that, it's like they fought all the way back
17:54and that's what you go with?
17:55Come on.
17:56As opposed to what, though?
17:58I don't know.
17:58A better shot with 18 left on the clock?
18:00I mean, to me, I don't have a problem with Pods.
18:07The reason they're asking, the reason he's trying to do so much is because that's what
18:10they're asking him to do with this particular team that's out on the floor.
18:15He's the only guy, he's the best guy on the team right now who can create for somebody else.
18:22But he's not going to be overly efficient because he's going to have to do more than he really should.
18:28But again, I think he's the only guy capable of it on this team of making a play for somebody
18:35else
18:36or just making an impactful play that helps you win.
18:42Now, we know that he interjects himself a little too much.
18:46But to my way of thinking, that's just the way he's going to become better.
18:50He's got to get more consistent.
18:52I think his decision-making has to get a little better in terms of throwing the home run,
18:58trying to hit a home run when he doesn't really have to.
19:00But I don't have a problem with Pods.
19:04I really don't.
19:05The more I'm watching him, the more I'm realizing that you can dwell on his weaknesses
19:09and you can dwell on his low moments.
19:11But he can do things that other players on the team can't with these guys out right now,
19:18meaning Butler and Curry and whoever else isn't playing.
19:20He's had a good few weeks.
19:22He's got to get into them.
19:23Yeah, if you have an issue with him right now and it falls into that category,
19:29which is what we're doing.
19:30Well, it's just that this had nothing to do with him.
19:33It never did.
19:34It never did.
19:36Brandon Pajemski has ended up in this back room with the door closed,
19:40and he's like, I didn't.
19:42What the hell did I do to be here?
19:45Every single Pods person that I've had a conversation with who's mad at Pods
19:50is actually mad at Curry.
19:51I thought you were going to say Kaminga.
19:53No, they're actually mad at Curry, which is fine.
19:55You want to be mad at Curry, be mad at Curry.
19:57I get it.
19:58But, like, just say you're mad at Curry.
20:00Brandon Pajemski, other than, like, being cocky
20:04and being a young player who makes some poor decisions on the court,
20:09no different than the guy they just traded to Atlanta, by the way,
20:12he's done nothing wrong.
20:14One thing I love is Dre's fire.
20:16He's talking about putting me on the best player.
20:18I respond better.
20:19But I told Stiney real quick here, we're one ahead of the Clippers,
20:23and then Portland's two behind us.
20:25I thought the 10th was not even feasible.
20:28But if this thing, like, I'm nervous about tonight.
20:32I mean, you should be nervous because when they play good teams,
20:35they play great.
20:36When they play bad teams, they don't tend to play as well.
20:39But just looking at who played on Saturday,
20:41if you look at the totality of the 10 guys they played,
20:44they had two first-round picks, not even lottery guys,
20:48although Porzingis was lottery, and Al Horford was also lottery.
20:52You had two first-rounders, and I'm looking at two,
20:56actually three first-rounders with pods,
20:58and a couple second-rounders, and five guys who were never drafted.
21:01So what you're putting out right now is not good enough
21:04to win a lot of nights.
21:05All right, guys.
21:07Sure show for you, too, huh?
21:08Barely.
21:09A little bit, yeah.
21:10Yeah, yeah.
21:10Yeah, games at six.
21:12And you're doing Warriors Live at five.
21:14Warriors Live at five, yes.
21:15Nick Friedle and Cam Inman will be on the show, Stiney.
21:18Nice.
21:19And they'll be on 95-7, the game.
21:21That's where we work.
21:22Yep.
