01:07addictive thriller runaway in which he takes the law into his own hands to track
01:11down his missing daughter we are talking suspense secrets and plenty of shocking
01:16twists and if that's not enough drama for you Quadrophenia and EastEnders actor
01:20Phil Daniels and Josh Finan the BAFTA nominated star of the responder will be
01:24telling us about their powerful new BBC series it's called waiting for the out and it
01:29looks at life behind bars in a tough men's prison I am such a big fan of that
01:33show and talking to powerful stories Helen Skelton's got plenty of them as lost and
01:38found in the lakes returns to our screens it sees her helping to track down
01:42missing treasures and reuniting them with their owners Helen's gonna be here to
01:47share some of those emotional moments very shortly yes another good one and of
01:51course we love hearing from you if you've got a question or comment about the show
01:56tonight then do get in touch on whatsapp oh double three zero one two three one
02:00seven hundred socials or email but first with yellow weather warnings in place for
02:04large parts of the country tonight and with thermostats being turned up to cope
02:08with the freezing temperatures lots of us are looking at ways to save on energy
02:12bills and Joe Crowley has been exploring an alternative way to heat your home that
02:16more of us are being encouraged to consider than ever before it's about
02:20helping to save the planet but can it also help you save money as the UK moves
02:29towards greener energy heat pumps are seen as the main way will heat our homes
02:33without fossil fuels the government wants 600,000 heat pumps to be installed
02:39every year in the UK by 2028 but even with grants and incentives take-up has been
02:45slow especially among older homeowners 77 year old Dennis is thinking about
02:54getting one what's holding you back from getting a heat pump the solar panels that
02:59we had fitted that was ten years ago that was ten thousand one hundred pence now
03:04I've already got my money back off those it would take me a long long time to get
03:10my money back on the savings that I make if I had a heat pump air source heat pumps
03:18extract heat from the air outside and use it to warm the water in your home's
03:22heating system ground source pumps are similar but get their heat from the
03:27earth through buried pipes making them harder to install they both run on
03:31electricity which costs more than gas so if your house isn't well insulated your
03:36bills could rise to help Dennis decide we've enlisted the help of his neighbor
03:41Clive we're not going far then Clive had an air source heat pump installed on his
03:491930s terrace four years ago so Clive what made you decide to get a heat pump I had
03:54to put the money up front but the government's giving it back providing I
03:58keep using it so how does it work for you it's been excellent I'm running the whole
04:03of my house but between 20 and 22 degrees that's day and night because this
04:08thing is supposed to stay on yeah I'm paying 62 pounds a month electricity bill
04:12no gas bill what are there the tricky bits that people have to be aware of I
04:16have lost quite a lot of space without quite a huge indirect cylinder for the
04:21hot water and a lot of people would find it difficult that could be a problem
04:24with mine because I just don't know where it would go as Clive found these
04:29systems often require extra indoor space for large cylinders and there can be
04:34other issues too this is my new heat pump it's my second one Jane was an early
04:40adopter of heat pumps back in 2011 we had one major issue with it in 2018 which
04:47produced a massive air block and it resulted in about three months of no
04:54heating during the winter of the Beast of the East which wasn't pleasant we had
04:59fan heaters in all the rooms and it did mean that the electricity bills just went
05:04through the ceiling plus the additional cost of the the work on the kit itself
05:10before making his decision Dennis and I are going to hear firsthand about Jane's
05:15experiences how tricky is it to navigate this area the initial setup is a bit
05:20complex have you found just the radiators adequate yes I found them fine you know
05:26I'm sitting here in a long-sleeved t-shirt not a sweatshirt and the muffler do
05:31you think that problems like the one you experience will become fewer and
05:35further between it's one of those technologies they're constantly gaining
05:39knowledge so yes I think it's it's a learning curve to find out the
05:44installation costs I'm meeting up with Professor Fleur Loveridge an energy and
05:48sustainability expert from the University of Leeds air source heat pumps might
05:53cost around 10 or 11,000 pounds upfront capital costs if you want to look at a
05:58ground source heat pump that will be more it could be twice as much an incentive
06:03for those looking to switch from fossil fuel heating could be the government's
06:07boiler upgrade scheme grant of seven and a half thousand pounds which is
06:12available in England and Wales how easy is it to switch over to a heat pump
06:16can any house do it almost all properties should be suitable for
06:19installation of a heat pump older homes may need insulation upgrades to make heat
06:25pumps work effectively after our visit Dennis is reflecting on whether he's
06:30ready to make the switch I don't think it's for me my main reservations are the
06:36reliability of the system the space needed inside the property it would take me a
06:41long time to recoup them the the investment that I made heat pumps aren't for every home the practical
06:49considerations and costs can be problematic but they're an important step towards a greener future
06:58thank you Joe some big decisions to make for people and lots of people have been watching
07:02that with great interest especially now and in the coming weeks we're going to have some more films
07:06looking at other things that might affect your decision to go green this year yeah do you keep
07:11your ass peeled for them time now to say hello to tonight's guests who have got great new year tv shows
07:17actors james nesbitt phil daniels josh finan and presenter helen skelton
07:27um helen you've been busy you're up at the crack of dawn with morning live already i know
07:31wearing to go for 2026 well i i feel like i'm i mean i've got withdrawal symptoms from my pajamas
07:36and my baileys and home alone but yeah let's do a double ball you know what it's like when you're
07:41out the house you may as well commit yeah exactly no that's it you're in it you're in a boot and a
07:46pvc skirt me too bit you just got to go with it you're going to make it work um all right let's start
07:51with our first tv treat because james is back in harlan corbin's latest binge worthy drama runaway
07:57he plays a father who goes in search of his missing daughter let's take a look i really need
08:02to speak to your daughter i don't know where she is no what what page please let go of me
08:10do you know this man it's aaron corvall it's our daughter's boyfriend i believe he keeps her
08:15against her will he was found dead last night page couldn't have done this no but you could have
08:21oh so intense well congratulations james another number one already the the most watched show over
08:33here and in the states on netflix which is fantastic and getting so much love from people uh lots of
08:38people binging it already beta says runaway a total binge watch for me i watched it all in one go
08:44one session i mean that is it is addictive it really is i like to take my time with things i've
08:50only watched the first one but james you play simon but just give us some background on the
08:55character and tell us where we find him when we start watching it simon green is a successful
09:00happily married three kids businessman uh but when we find him uh six months previous his eldest daughter
09:09page uh has disappeared she's run away she got involved in drugs with a very dangerous and um
09:17um uh worrying uh boyfriend and uh has has gone uh she had to be the mini driver who plays my wife
09:28has said she's got to leave but simon's determined to find her so uh in the very first episode he gets
09:33a tip off that she has been found he finds her she disappears and then in typical harlan coban fashion uh he
09:40uh gets drawn into a world of uh violence of intrigue uh twisty turner roller coaster the juggernaut
09:48that is harlan coping so it's um you know whatever goes on in harlan's mind i don't want to know but
09:54uh it appeals to people i think and and and and also he creates extraordinary stories with kind of
10:00ordinary people and i think that's a good collision yeah is that why you like working with him because
10:04this is your third collaboration yeah you must have him on speed dial now he's great and also
10:09he's so invested it's quite unusual i mean the whole key street netflix team that make harlan shows
10:15it's one big you know it sounds cliche to say it but it's one big family and um and they're always
10:20there harlan you can contact any time if you want to change something he's always there and nicolas
10:24shinder the producer they're they're a really tight team and then they get great cast great crews and
10:28and i get to film in manchester which i love so it's good i mean you mentioned uh working with
10:32minnie driver who plays your wife brilliant ruth jones who you know i think we saw there in the
10:37clip you're fantastic together but you're also working with this brilliant younger generation
10:42of actors and i know you've really enjoyed that seeing that new talent coming through no they're
10:45fantastic you know i still there's still a bit of me that thinks like my mother always used to say
10:49you're one age all your life and she said to me she said about eight she said james you'll always be 17
10:54which is kind of accurate and worrying but um but it's great now to kind of been working for a long
10:59time to work with the young ones in this like john punting he's fantastic ellie delane who plays uh
11:04page me of uh who plays the other kind of baby-faced assassin it's just it's it's brilliant to kind of
11:10be sort of part of their journey and they're you know passing me in the ladders they go up and i kind
11:15of head down i know you're doing a bit of mentoring you know giving them a bit of advice and encouragement
11:21well yeah you try to but i mean they it's they're very different from my generation my generation and
11:26films generation we enjoyed ourselves a wee bit when we were their age and i think they're still
11:30doing that a bit but but the um but they're great and it's just they're so invested and and and that's
11:36the beauty of it and that's what they treat it with respect i mean you know you've got a young one
11:40here exactly well josh i know that you um martin freeman who you work with on the responder gave you a
11:47bit of advice about your new show didn't he yeah i did yeah i went to him i went to who i know you
11:52you know as well um i went to chat to martin um because it was this this job was a little bit of
11:57like a step up for me do you know what i mean it was in terms of what it demands of yourself do you
12:03know what i mean in terms of a bit just a bit apart also what it the time that you have to be
12:08there like when we did that show um the responder like sometimes i'd have a week off do you know what
12:13i mean what i'm gonna do when i don't have a week off when i'm in sort of every day and so i went to
12:18chat to him uh and i ran this by my sister i said i'm gonna go and chat to martin tomorrow
12:23and she was like oh why i was like well i just pick his brain you know what i mean and like
12:27just find out what it's like to be in work every day and she goes you know you could ask literally
12:31anybody else i was like i thought i was a man of the people then she brought me down and then you
12:41mentioned about filming in manchester we know that place is a special special hold in your heart
12:46because you're a manchester united fan now i know i don't know how you're gonna feel about me
12:50bringing up the second today well i think it's um you know it's interesting i don't think it's a
12:55huge surprise it just seems a bit shambolic the whole thing you know i mean i it's been a shambles
13:02for a while but you know it was never going to be easy to replace for alex version and i think we're
13:05now finding that you know i kind of there's a bit of me that wishes david and lois has been
13:08given a bit more time all those years ago but um but you know the thing is i am available uh
13:15that was gonna be they could do worse i mean you know um but no it's uh extraordinary times
13:21yes but you love the area you love the place so it must have been great to film there oh it's magic
13:25you know i i've i've loved working there because i did so many years of cool feet there and you know
13:29to to be a united fan and to be filming there and then also this year my uh mary my second daughter
13:35she was finishing her manchester her degree in manchester so she was with me all the time up
13:40there so it was it's you know it's a it's a treat it's a real privilege you know but also the work is
13:46the privilege you know it was it was pretty relentless but you can't complain about it that's
13:51that's the privilege of the job well listen smash it already congratulations runaway is available to
13:57watch on netflix now still to come helen will be chatting about the emotional reunions in the latest
14:03series of lost and found in the lakes but first phil and josh here are starring in the brilliant bbc
14:09drama waiting for the out which is already receiving glowing reviews set in a men's prison
14:14josh's character dan teaches philosophy lessons to inmates however the job leaves him questioning his own
14:19life welcome to prison first day only to imagine two fictional worlds
14:27first it's called the just world you are choosing to go into that place in here i don't think about
14:35being a good person and the other the lock world yeah that world is imaginary but i do feel bad about
14:40not being a good man so josh this absolutely blew me away i mean it's not your average prison drama this
14:51is it so viewers might expect you know think and think that your character who's going in to help
14:56the inmates he's got all the answers he's going in to kind of help these guys but actually that
15:01couldn't be further from the truth could it i mean he's got issues of his own yeah that's why i sort of
15:06love that character really because you meet um dan and if you met down on the street you might assume
15:12that you knew everything about him he's a i don't know a floppy-haired lad that crosses his legs and sort of
15:17is seemingly you know middle class and it and inside um he that that betrays the background that
15:26he's come from which is um he grew up and his several members of his family um were incarcerated
15:32his dad and his uncle and his and his brother um he feels like he narrowly sort of escaped going down
15:39that route himself because his mum remarried and he grew up in a fairly middle-class environment and went
15:43to uni and is now interested in sort of you know art and culture and and philosophy um and so he he
15:53presents as one thing but has a hidden past and also he doesn't i like the show because it looks at sort
16:00of like we were just chatting then about like the show is about men really and different looks at what
16:07men are like yeah it presents the prisoners as um very non-stereotypical they're guys that use their
16:15heads it shows a sensitive and intellectual side of the prisoners and then it also shows a different
16:20side to this seemingly very like in control calm guy his head's a mess do you know what i mean
16:27and so i like the fact that it flipped both of those sort of stereotypes really we're going to be
16:31filling now because you play dan's uncle frank that's right and he's lived a very different life to
16:36down hasn't he well yeah i mean he's been in prison and out of prison all his life really and he gets
16:43released and is about but finds it very very difficult to adjust to living in the modern world
16:49really and is given a job and they he has to go and work and he's not used to working and he's going to
16:58work pushing trolleys at a supermarket and uh but he's inundated and he feels terrible because he's
17:07got too many forms to fill in these days he just he's pushing trolleys he doesn't understand the
17:11logistics of what it's like to have a job these days so he goes into himself a bit um he's had to adapt
17:19to the modern world he's had to adapt to the modern world but he's fun and he enjoys his life and he
17:24tells lots and lots of stories about his life and and prisons and how much fun prison was to him and
17:31that he's you know lived his life in prisons and that the men in prisons are forgotten when they come
17:37out so it's a quite interesting character and a fabulous show because i watched it all last night
17:44it was fantastic i really and he was great
17:54josh i mean you've got to do some amazing research for the part as well didn't you because um it's adapted
17:58from a memoir written by andy west and you went into a prison with him where he was teaching philosophy
18:05yeah what was that like yeah it was that was an amazing experience um i i love andy he's a very
18:10like special guy and i'm so glad i would i mean i'd be glad to do this job anyway do you know what
18:14i mean but not least of all because i now know him do you know what i mean it is sort of inspired
18:20by his life the story takes it takes a bit of a divergence from his direct you know biography but
18:27that day in prison was was kind of amazing like to walk around and chat to the inmates and chat to
18:32staff and watch him watch him teach which i think is like was a very beautiful thing like he going
18:38back to what i said before about that you know someone who presents as one thing like if he was
18:42ever nervous in there it didn't show do you know what i mean and he never once tried to sort of
18:48adapt or be sort of like anything he wasn't jenny so he wasn't wearing socks the day we went in
18:53do you know what i mean he had loafers with no socks and i was like i can't believe you're not
18:56wearing socks in prison that's that's mad to me do you know what i mean and yeah that's just and
19:00he's yeah so he's a wonderful guy and i was grateful to learn from him you mentioned your
19:04sister before um you grew up on the wirral and were filming nearby so and apparently that meant
19:09your family could come down and and be in the mix as extras yeah they they came in yeah they came they
19:15they'd always sort of joked about it me and was like yeah because i've worked in liverpool a little
19:19bit and she was always like oh we'll come over from being it and i was like well all right and so they did
19:23yeah yeah yeah yeah look it was a christening christening yeah yeah so yeah so film and um and
19:30we had yeah we had a lovely like lovely afternoon it's great it must have been great for them to
19:34see what you do and be immersed in it yeah quite funny i don't think actually they knew what they
19:38were getting into my mum comes up to me at one point and goes it's taken a while this isn't
19:44because of like you know you've got to do it all over and over again and she was like it's taking a
19:48a while like are we we're not doing it wrong are we like going again for us like they would tell us
19:52wouldn't they if we were doing it i said no you're doing it right with that case she's an extra in um
19:59runaway she gets to say um uh two words to me uh no which i can't repeat here she was very very
20:07convincing oh my goodness and waiting for the out continues on saturday it's at 9 35 p.m on bbc one
20:15and i've left right spoiler alert because in a moment we're going to be chatting to the first
20:19famous face to leave the masked singer at the weekend so if you don't want to know who it is
20:22yet go and make yourself a cup of tea yeah have you gone good because we have so many questions to
20:28ask this person before we chat to them here's how they got on on saturday night
20:42it's alex jones from the workshop oh my goodness
20:57my father was well and truly gaston she kept that very very quiet oh my goodness and we can go to alex
21:03right now on a sunny tuesday morning in new zealand where she's visiting family al you were amazing
21:09what a surprise i nearly fell off my sofa i have to admit but you did an incredible job
21:13and i know you and the family are big fans of the show so it must have been so exciting for everyone
21:18once they knew i tell you what i mean i was so stressed about it i've come to the furthest place
21:25on earth no i'm joking um but the the children have always loved the show um and we watch it as a family
21:33on a saturday night and i just thought for them the surprise would be so fantastic and it really was
21:39we watched it with them last night and it was amazing they hadn't for a second guess it was me
21:45and i think that's the joy of the show it's so much fun to do um you know it's the only chance you're
21:50going to get to learn how to sing i mean i say sing you know vaguely um oh it was all right but it
21:58it was just such a joyous show to do it was really good fun and the kids loved it oh well
22:04the panel had no idea it was you either you disguised your voice so well your sister apparently
22:08spat out her g and t when it was revealed that it was you and another great reveal last night because
22:14it turns out that tea bag was professor green but you didn't know that because you have no idea
22:19who anybody else is on the show the celebs don't know right no so the way it works i mean it's so
22:25secretive and it's done so brilliantly but the way it works um you do your bit you do your
22:30performance and then you get taken back to your dressing room and you don't hear any other
22:36performance at all so last night was the first time i heard the four other contestants on the
22:41same program as me um you've got no idea so you're a little bit in the dark so i had nothing to compare
22:47it to at all um and it was really fun to watch the show all stitched together that that was great
22:52well you kicked off the new year in new zealand our visiting family but quickly tell us how
22:57excited you are to be celebrating 20 years of the one show once you get back
23:01oh well i think it's going to be a really special year for us 20 years of any show is such a great
23:07achievement um it's mega isn't it and it's all thanks to our viewers who are so loyal we've got
23:12loads of things planned kicking off with another amazing 500 words and i can't wait to get back on the
23:18sofa i'll see you very soon happy new year from new zealand happy new year enjoy the rest of your
23:24break we'll see you soon lots of love there she goes there she goes our singing star and the mask
23:32singer continues this saturday 7 p.m on itv1 and itvx helen do you think you could in fact you could
23:38no be on miles and the mass singer no we don't know i know i once sang many moons ago when it went out
23:44on tv i had such a physical reaction i hid under the desk it was so bad never again never never
23:50even if you get to dress up as a tea bag for example well one show that we know helen loves
23:58doing is lost and found in the lakes which came back for a new series this afternoon it sees helen
24:02and her crack team of experts try to reunite people with their cherished possessions that they've lost
24:08around the lake district and this series isn't just about losing things that are valuable it's about
24:13the stories behind them and helen tomorrow there's a sentimental object you're on the hunt for um after
24:19a fire yeah it's always about the story behind the object you know people come to us and they always
24:24go oh gosh i feel so silly for getting upset about a materialistic item but it's never about that you
24:29know that wedding rings represent a chapter of life together you know quite often we have people who've
24:34lost their partners you know we had a lady who was 91 and paddleboarded she lost her late husband's
24:39wedding ring and she said when i wore it i felt like i was holding his hand yeah and tomorrow it's
24:44a different item uh there was uh a fire on a boat sandra was living on this boat and it was a chapter
24:51of her life where a lot of things were going on and she was you know doing something totally new
24:55something random living on the boat her whole life was on there the boat went up in smoke and she
25:00had this talisman that she had taken with her and it went into the water so we tasked our team with
25:05with finding the item i'm not allowed to say if we find it don't it's so it's on tomorrow so this is
25:10the search for the elephant right search for the elephant is on tomorrow okay we can we can actually
25:15have a little look at that now let's see that and it looks like the boat was sort of drifting this way
25:20at that point have you watched the video back the elephant fell off sort of in front of here
25:28there's signals everywhere yeah so i reckon you're better off this way a bit
25:37i'm really hoping this new information can help
25:49people have to tune in to find out how that one resolves but i know there's a story that you loved
25:53about a cherished ring lost 60 years ago another ring yeah so we get asked to find a lot of wedding
25:59rings uh this was a wedding ring lost in 1966 uh so this guy's on the football sidelines i'm sure you
26:06can all empathize being dedicated followers of football it got a bit heated on the sidelines these
26:11two guys had a bust up and the ring was lost for 60 years uh we go back to try and find the wedding
26:19ring but again it's not what's so wonderful is this gentleman stands there in front of me and you
26:25know we've all navigated life and and marriages and divorces and grief and friendships and he stood
26:31there and he said i love my wife as much now as i did when i met her this ring is a symbol of our life

27:15needle in a haystack and then some but the team these aren't like they're not telly people they
27:20are people who love scuba diving and treasure hunting and free diving and detect like going
27:26out on the fells with metal detectors they're in there absolutely freezing mike who you just saw coming
27:31up to water i have to nag him to get out because he's so blue they they do not want to give up on
27:36these stories because they know the story you know they felt grief and joy and love and laughter and
