00:00Hey kids, gather round for an amazing story from long, long ago.
00:05It's a tale about a great king, a forgotten promise, and how doing the right thing can make a big difference.
00:11Our story starts with King David, who was a really brave and wise ruler of Israel.
00:17But one day, something was wrong.
00:19For three whole years, there was a big, big problem in the land.
00:23No rain.
00:24The ground was dry.
00:25The plants wouldn't grow.
00:27And everyone was getting very hungry.
00:29This is called a famine.
00:31King David was very worried.
00:32He knew he had to do something to help his people.
00:35So, he did what wise leaders do.
00:38He asked God for help.
00:39David prayed, God, why is this happening?
00:42What did we do wrong?
00:44And God answered him.
00:45It turned out the problem wasn't something David did, but something the king before him, King Saul, had done many, many years ago.
00:53You see, a long, long time before even Saul was king, a group of people called the Jibba Nights came to Israel.
01:01They were clever and made a special promise, a covenant, with the leaders of Israel.
01:07A covenant is like a super duper serious pinky promise that you can never, ever break.
01:12The Israelites promised to always protect the Jibba Nights and keep them safe.
01:17And for hundreds of years, everyone kept that promise.
01:20But then came King Saul.
01:22For reasons we don't fully understand, Saul tried to harm the Jibba Nights, breaking that super important promise made so long ago.
01:30It was a really sad thing to do because it went against the solemn oath.
01:34Breaking a promise to God and to other people is a very serious matter.
01:39Now, years later, the consequences of that broken promise were affecting everyone in Israel with this terrible famine.
01:46So, what did King David do?
01:48Did he just shrug and say,
01:50Oh well, that was King Saul?
01:52Not me, nope.
01:53David knew that as a new king, he had a responsibility to make things right.
01:58He was a leader who cared about justice and fixing past mistakes.
02:02He decided to go and talk directly to the Jibba Nights.
02:06This is a super important lesson.
02:08Kids, when something is wrong, talking to the people who have been hurt is the first step to making it right.
02:15David went to the Jibba Nights and said,
02:18I know that my predecessor, King Saul, wronged you and your people.
02:22The whole land is suffering because of this broken promise.
02:26What can I do to make it right?
02:28How can I atone for this so that our land can be blessed again?
02:32He didn't make excuses.
02:33He didn't blame anyone.
02:35He just humbly asked what he could do to fix it.
02:38That's true leadership.
02:39The Jibba Nights were the ones who had been wronged.
02:42So, David listened carefully to what they had to say.
02:46They told David they didn't want gold or silver.
02:49Money couldn't fix the pain of a broken promise and the loss of their people.
02:54They wanted justice.
02:55They explained that King Saul had tried to wipe them out and they felt the only way to make things right was for the family of the man who caused the harm.
03:04To face the consequences, they asked for seven of King Saul's male descendants to be handed over to them so that justice could be served.
03:12Now, this might sound a little harsh to us today, but in those ancient times, this was their way of showing just how serious the crime was.
03:21It was about restoring balance and honoring the broken covenant.
03:25It was a way to publicly show that breaking a promise has very real consequences.
03:30King David had a tough decision to make.
03:32He wanted to bring justice for the Jibba Nights and end the famine for his people.
03:37But he had also made a promise of his own.
03:39Remember David's best friend, Jonathan?
03:42Jonathan was King Saul's son.
03:44Before Jonathan died, David had promised him that he would always look after his family.
03:50And Jonathan had a son named Mephibosheth.
03:52So, here's David caught between two promises.
03:56One promise was the ancient one made to the Jibba Nights.
03:59And the other was his personal promise to his best friend Jonathan.
04:03What would you do?
04:04David showed his wisdom here.
04:06He knew he had to keep both promises.
04:08He agreed to the Jibba Nights' request for justice, but he made sure to protect Mephibosheth.
04:14He kept his promise to Jonathan and showed loyalty even while carrying out this difficult task.
04:20So, seven of Saul's other descendants were given to the Jibba Nights.
04:24After justice was served, something amazing happened.
04:28The rain came back.
04:29The famine was over.
04:31God saw that David had taken responsibility, honored the broken covenant, and restored justice in the land.
04:37This shows us how much God cares about promises and fairness.
04:41He wants us to be people who keep our word and stand up for what is right, even when it's hard.
04:48This story also teaches us about something called generational consequences.
04:52That's a big phrase.
04:53But it just means that the choices one person makes can affect their kids,
04:58their grandkids, and even their whole country years later.
05:01King Saul's bad choice caused a problem for all of Israel long after he was gone.
05:06But the good news is that a good choice can also have amazing effects.
05:10David's good choice to seek justice, brought healing, and reign to the entire land.
05:15David's actions show us what a great leader looks like.
05:19He didn't hide from the problem.
05:21He prayed and asked God for guidance.
05:23He listened to the people who were hurt.
05:26He took responsibility for a mistake he didn't even make.
05:29And he found a way to be just while also being loyal and kind.
05:33He was an intercessor for his people, meaning he stood in the gap and helped make things
05:38right between them and God.
05:40The story of the Jibbaonites is pretty incredible.
05:43They started out as outsiders who cleverly made a pact to survive.
05:47They became servants in Israel, but that promise kept them safe for centuries.
05:52When the promise was broken, it caused a huge problem.
05:56But when it was honored again, it brought blessings.
05:58It's a powerful reminder of how important our words and promises are.
06:03Think about it in your own life.
06:05When you make a promise to a friend, a parent, or a teacher, it's important to keep it.
06:10Your words have power.
06:12Keeping your promises builds trust and makes your relationship strong.
06:16And if you ever break a promise or make a mistake, being like David is the way to go.
06:22Be brave enough to say you're sorry.
06:24Ask how you can make it right and do your best to fix it.
06:27This story from so long ago is not just a history lesson.
06:31It's a lesson about character.
06:33It teaches us about justice, responsibility, loyalty, and the incredible power of keeping our word.
06:40King David wasn't perfect, but in this story, he shows us how to lead with a heart that wants
06:45to do the right thing.
06:47And that's a lesson that is just as important for us today as it was for the people of Israel.
06:52Thousands of years ago, by making things right with the Jipponites, David didn't just end
06:58a famine.
06:58He restored trust and showed everyone what it means to follow God.
07:03And that's the amazing story of David, the Jipponites, and a promise that changed everything.
07:08I hope you enjoyed it.
07:10Remember to always try to be someone who keeps their word, just like God always keeps his
07:15promises to us.
07:16Thanks for listening, everyone.
