00:00Hey everyone, and welcome back to our channel.
00:03Today, we're going to talk about one of the most amazing friendships ever told.
00:07It's a story about two best friends, a shepherd boy who became a king, and a prince who should
00:13have been king.
00:14Let's dive into the incredible story of David and Jonathan.
00:18Imagine this, you've just done something super brave, like defeating a giant that everyone
00:23else was scared of.
00:24That's what happened to David.
00:26He was just a young shepherd, but he trusted in God and defeated the mighty Goliath.
00:31Watching all of this was Jonathan, the son of King Saul.
00:35And from that very moment, something incredible happened.
00:38The Bible says that Jonathan's soul was knit to David's soul.
00:42It was like they instantly knew they were meant to be best friends forever.
00:46Now, Jonathan was a prince.
00:48He had cool royal clothes, a sword, a bow, everything a prince would have.
00:53And what's the first thing he does after meeting David?
00:56He gives it all to him.
00:58He gave David his own robe, his armor, his sword, his bow, and his belt.
01:03This wasn't just like sharing toys.
01:06This was a huge deal.
01:07It was Jonathan's way of saying, David, I see you.
01:11I respect you.
01:12I am with you.
01:13No matter what.
01:14It was a promise.
01:15A special agreement between them called a covenant.
01:18They promised to always be loyal and look out for each other.
01:22Their friendship wasn't just about sharing cool stuff, though.
01:25It was built on something much stronger.
01:28Their shared faith in God.
01:29Both David and Jonathan loved and trusted God with all their hearts.
01:34This shared belief made their bond super duper strong.
01:37It was like they were on the same team.
01:39Not just as friends, but in their spiritual journey, too.
01:42This helped them connect on a level that went way beyond just hanging out.
01:47Their friendship wasn't just about earthly things.
01:50It was heavenly, too.
01:51Now, things at the palace started to get a little tricky.
01:55King Saul, Jonathan's dad, became really jealous of David.
01:59People were singing songs about how brave David was, and Saul didn't like it one bit.
02:04He saw David as a threat to his throne.
02:07This is where Jonathan's true colors really shined.
02:10He had to choose between his dad, the king, and his best friend, David.
02:15That's a tough spot for anyone to be in, right?
02:17But Jonathan's loyalty to David was unwavering.
02:21He stood up for David, even when it was dangerous.
02:24He would talk to his dad and try to calm him down, reminding him of all the good things David had done for the kingdom.
02:31Jonathan put his friendship above everything else, even his own chance to be the next king.
02:36He knew in his heart that God had chosen David to be the future king of Israel.
02:41And instead of being jealous, Jonathan supported it.
02:44He was happy for his friend.
02:46That's what you call a selfless friend.
02:48There's a super famous part of their story where they had to say goodbye.
02:52And it's so touching.
02:54King Saul was actively trying to harm David, so they came up with a secret plan.
02:59Jonathan would shoot arrows, and based on where they landed, and what he said to his servant boy.
03:04David, who was hiding, would know if it was safe to return, or if he had to run away.
03:10When the signal was given that David had to leave, it was a heartbreaking moment.
03:15They both cried and promised to take care of each other's families forever.
03:20It shows how deep their love for each other was.
03:22It wasn't just a see-later kind of friendship.
03:25It was a I've got your back, and your family's back, for life kind of friendship.
03:30Their story is all about what true friendship looks like.
03:33It's about being loyal, even when it's hard.
03:36It's about being selfless, and wanting the best for your friend.
03:39Even if it means you don't get what you want.
03:42Jonathan could have been king, but he saw God's plan for David and cheered him on.
03:47He protected David, encouraged him, and stood by him through the scariest times.
03:52This is the kind of courage and integrity that makes a friendship last.
03:57And the story doesn't end there years later.
03:59After Jonathan had passed away, King David remembered his promise.
04:04He searched for anyone left in Jonathan's family to show them kindness for his friend's sake.
04:09He found Jonathan's son, Mephibosheth, who couldn't walk properly.
04:14David brought him to the palace, gave him back all the land that belonged to his family,
04:18and let him eat at the king's table for the rest of his life.
04:22David kept his promise.
04:24He honored the incredible bond he shared with Jonathan by taking care of his son.
04:28This shows us that true friendship has a legacy.
04:32The love and loyalty David and Jonathan shared didn't just disappear.
04:37It continued to bless the next generation.
04:39It's a powerful reminder of how important it is to be a good and faithful friend.
04:44So, what can we learn from David and Jonathan?
04:48First, that the best friendships are often built on a shared faith.
04:52When you and your friends both love God, it strengthens your bond in amazing ways.
04:57Second, true friendship is selfless.
05:00It's about cheering for your friends' successes and supporting them.
05:04Not being jealous.
05:05Jonathan is a perfect example of this.
05:08Third, loyalty is key.
05:10A true friend sticks with you through thick and thin, through the good times and the really, really tough times.
05:17They speak up for you and protect you.
05:19And finally, our promises matter.
05:21David kept his promise to Jonathan, even long after he was gone.
05:26This teaches us about integrity and the lasting power of a commitment made from the heart.
05:31The story of David and Jonathan is more than just a tale from a long time ago.
05:37It's a blueprint for the kind of friends we should all strive to be.
05:40It encourages us to be loyal, to love selflessly, and to build our relationships on a foundation of faith and trust.
05:48Their friendship reminds us of the incredible beauty of sacrificial love and how it's strong.
05:54God-centered friendship can truly change the world.
05:57So, let's try to be a Jonathan to the Davids in our lives.
