01:12Police say this guy swiped a bag right off the carousel.
01:15They found him hiding in the bathroom.
01:17Those bags don't belong to you.
01:19And this woman says he stole her bag also.
01:22Her mother's ashes were inside.

02:01Did it hurt?
02:02Now, Inside Edition with Eva Pilgrim.
02:06Happy New Year and welcome to our first show of 2026.
02:10We begin with an exclusive interview with the Sunburn Sisters,
02:14whose airport meltdown went viral.
02:17It's definitely not a situation you want to run into during your holiday vacation.
02:22Two sisters getting arrested after a gate agent told cops one of them pushed her down.
02:28In their first interview, the sisters speak about what they say really happened.
02:34They are known as the Sunburned Sisters,
02:37achieving viral notoriety after they were kicked off a plane.
02:40They were accused of knocking down the flight agent on the jet bridge.
02:44It led to an epic meltdown at Orlando International Airport.
02:48Oh no, leave me here.
02:49Now the sisters, Kira Lyons and Maura Flores,
02:53are sitting down with Inside Edition to tell their side of the story.
02:56When people say, oh, these girls were drunk, that's why they kicked them off.
02:59Does that upset you?
03:00Yeah.
03:01Yeah.
03:02I was not drunk getting on the plane.
03:04I wasn't drunk either.
03:05The sisters were returning to New Jersey after a three-day trip to Disney World.
03:10Right after they boarded, the younger sister, Kira, said she felt sick to her stomach.
03:13She suffers from celiac disease, a digestive disorder, so she went to the bathroom.
03:19Right after she returned to her seat, she says the flight attendant confronted her.
03:2422-year-old Kira says the Frontier Airlines flight attendant apparently thought she was intoxicated.
03:30She was like, have you been drinking?
03:31And I was like, yeah, I had a couple drinks.
03:33And she was like, no, you can't fly.
03:35And I was like, what?
03:37And that's when I automatically went and asked for my sister.
03:40Both sisters were ordered off the plane.
03:4231-year-old Maura, a mom of two, recorded herself asking for the flight attendant's name.
03:47Can I have a picture of your name, Ty?
03:49Of course I don't know.
03:50Once off the plane, chaos ensued.
03:52They are questioned by police, and they are clearly upset.
03:56Stop, stop, stop, stop.
03:57They were accused of knocking down the gate agent on the jet bridge.
04:01She pushed me, and then turned around, and then the sister came up and shoved me again, which I tripped over a maze.
04:07So both of them hit me?
04:09Yes.
04:09We looked at the videotape with them.
04:12And you're saying she fell on her own?
04:13Oh, yeah, she fell.
04:15Did you ever put your hands on this?
04:16Never.
04:17But police believed the gate agent was pushed, and the sunburned sisters were taken into custody, charged with battery and disorderly intoxication.
04:26Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me?
04:29What was going through your mind when they arrested you?
04:31We didn't know what was going on.
04:32I'm like, why are you arresting her?
04:33And their answer was, they have more witnesses than you.
04:36Why am I detained?
04:38Why am I detained?
04:39Why am I detained?
04:39Take them off!
04:42Take them off!
04:43The misdemeanor criminal charges were dropped after the sisters paid a fee and did community service.
04:50Kira was returning home to attend her college graduation.
04:53Did you ever make it to your graduation?
04:55No, I did not.
04:56I did not make it to my graduation.
04:58I was still in Orange County Jail while my friends were walking at graduation.
05:03We aren't these people that people are making us out to be.
05:08Frontier Airlines had no comment.
05:11And traveling during the holidays is hard enough, along with worrying about severe winter weather and all the germs.
05:17There's also this, trying to keep your suitcase from getting stolen.
05:21As Les Trent reports, just as the numbers of travelers have gone up, so have the number of thefts.
05:28Millions of Americans are checking luggage, returning home from the holidays.
05:33But beware what could happen to you when you land at the airport.
05:38Baggage bandits.
05:40In Cleveland, after this passenger reported her suitcase missing,
05:44Somebody just took my bag.
05:45Police took swift action.
05:48Come on.
05:48Finding this guy hiding out in an airport bathroom stall.
05:52You're being detained because those bags don't belong to you.
05:56He was charged with theft.
05:59Airport authorities say it isn't his first time.
06:02Watch as cops say he brazenly takes not one, but two bags,
06:07And then casually wheels them away as if they were his.
06:11And here he is, allegedly doing it again.
06:13It turns out, inside that bag was something very precious to its rightful owner.
06:21Her mother's ashes.
06:22I can show you what was stolen.
06:24This box right here.
06:27Lynn Morin says the ashes have never been recovered.
06:31Disbelief.
06:33Shock.
06:34Stolen luggage is a huge problem nationwide.
06:36We take that very seriously in Cleveland.
06:38Cleveland Deputy Police Chief Harold Pratel says thieves are more likely to strike over the holidays
06:43because they know a lot of those suitcases are packed with gifts.
06:47This here is exactly what we're talking about.
06:49The carousel has stopped.
06:51These bags are still here.
06:52No one's come by to claim them, so that's a crime opportunity waiting to happen.
06:56Police say this man walked off with more than 50 suitcases in just six months.
07:01He was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
07:05We tried a baggage test of our own, and it was easy pickings.
07:10With their permission, our producer showed passengers how quickly he's able to grab their bags right off the carousel and walk away.
07:18They were shocked.
07:20Well, thank you for bringing me my bag.
07:21I can't believe they just let you walk out of there with it.
07:23But here at New York's LaGuardia Airport, we watched as airport employees stopped passengers to verify their bag tag matched their baggage claim receipts.
07:36Looks like a smart move.
07:38The transportation department says roughly a million bags are stolen each year, resulting in $1.2 billion in missing items.
07:47Pickleball peril.
07:48As the sports popularity continues to soar, comes a warning.
07:53A new study by the American Medical Association finds more and more people are going to the ER with eye injuries.
08:00Allison Hall with what you need to know.
08:02It's the peril of pickleball.
08:06America's fastest growing sport is leading to a major increase in eye injuries.
08:12Social media is filled with video of eye mishaps on the pickleball court.
08:17I'm not hit in the eye.
08:18Bye, pickleball.
08:19I'm a little worried about a possible detached retina.
08:22It's also happened to actress Michelle Pfeiffer.
08:25I'm playing pickleball.
08:27Ball hits me in the eye.
08:29A new study shows that emergency room visits by pickleball players with eye injuries hit 1,262 last year, three times higher than just a few years ago.
08:41The ball came at me.
08:42I swung and missed, and it hit my eye.
08:44Mary Gerzana is the woman in that ouch video.
08:48She got whacked playing pickleball with her boyfriend.
08:50My automatic reaction was to just kind of go down because it did feel that immediate pain.
08:54So what can you do to cut the risk?
08:56Well, how about impact-resistant safety glasses?
09:00These cost us $35.
09:02They're like the ones many players wear for a game of racquetball or squash.
09:07I tried them out and definitely felt like my eyes were more protected.
09:11Ophthalmologist Dr. Jonathan Su co-authored that new study.
09:15What are the most common injuries that you're seeing come up with pickleball?
09:19Certainly there's lots of injuries ranging from very serious to ones that are just more common like abrasions of the cornea, red eyes from bleeds that are on the surface of the eyes.
09:29But we definitely are seeing a lot of different injuries that are running the full gamut.
09:34The estimated annual medical cost of pickleball injuries is over $350 million.
09:41Once again, getting in shape was the number one New Year's resolution.
09:46But for women, going to the gym often means dealing with creepy guys.
09:51This young woman fought off an attacker inside her gym, and that has her leading to help others learn how to fight back.
09:59She grabs around the head.
10:01She's the brave young lady being called a real-life Wonder Woman after fighting off an attacker at the gym.
10:08Noshali Alma was working out in her apartment complex in Tampa when the assailant, a fellow tenant in the building, tried to grab her.
10:16And he kept coming towards me, so we ended up over here around the bench where he was on the other side here.
10:22He was, we're going back and forth, you know, I was trying to create some space.
10:26She's chased to the other side of the gym where she whacks the dude with her phone.
10:31Even when wrestled to the gym mat floor, she never gives up.
10:35I wasn't fearful. It was more like, I won't let this man touch me.
10:38It was just all instinct. React to it, fight back, be vocal, fight.
10:42They go out of frame, and here's what you didn't see.
10:45So we get pushed off, off the camera, and this is where he tries to put me in a chokehold.
10:50And I wiggled out of that, and I was able to elbow him in the face, and I grabbed his beard hairs, and I could see that he's hurt.
10:56So that's when I was able to get up, and I just ran out the door.
11:00The guy looks totally wiped out.
11:02Upkick, boom.
11:03Now, Noshali has teamed up with UFit Gyms and instructor Jason Blystein, an expert in Krav Maga, the Israeli martial art.
11:12When you're in these situations, you know, a lot of people freeze.
11:16But if you take these classes, you gain the confidence, you gain the empowerment to fight back.
11:21When she ran, she put a bench between, you know, her and the attacker and used obstacles, which we teach all the time.
11:27She was making it very clear, get off of me.
11:30This woman says seeing the video inspired her to sign up for the class.
11:34I appreciate all that you did, and I'm sorry for what you went through.
11:38Noshali's attacker claims he's incompetent to stand trial.
11:42A hearing is scheduled for later this month.
11:45When you order a mattress in a box, you don't expect this.
11:49All over social media, people are going flying when they open up their vacuum-sealed mattresses.
11:55But there is a way to avoid going airborne.
11:59Your new mattress has finally arrived.
12:02You can't wait to open it.
12:04Then this happens.
12:05Whacked right in the kisser.
12:10It's all over social media.
12:14Hey, watch out, kids.
12:17It's a far cry from how we're used to getting a new mattress.
12:21A couple of guys carrying it into your home and putting it on the bed frame.
12:25Now, after being compressed at the factory, it comes off the conveyor belt like a Tootsie Roll.
12:31Jaden King and her boyfriend, Michael Bevers, were excited to get their new mattress.
12:37And they, too, were in for quite a surprise.
12:41I understood from the way that it was tightly packed that it would have to expand a bit.
12:46But I thought it was one of those mattresses where once you cut it open, it stays thin and it expands slowly.
12:52Did it hurt?
12:53No, it did not hurt at all.
12:54We went to a bedding shop in Persippany, New Jersey.
12:57Turns out there's a correct way of unwrapping your new mattress and avoid getting smashed in the face.
13:04Stand back when you open it.
13:05Stand back and break the seal.
13:07And it's just going to expand.
13:09When it's rolled up and you break the seal, that's when it's going to explode out.
13:14Now, that's news you can use.
13:17I'm very grateful that I didn't get injured.
13:22Ordering a mattress in a box is growing in popularity.
13:26More than 54% of mattress shoppers are choosing to buy them online rather than going to a store.
13:32We'll be back with much more Inside Edition after this.
13:35Next, how secure is your storage unit?
13:39Masked bandits looking for loot.
13:42Your storage facility could be a hot spot that thieves keep coming back to and you would never know it.
13:48Then, mocking in the new year.
13:52Americans going booze free all month long and beyond.
13:56Cheers.
13:57Happy dry January.
13:59Inside Edition with Eva Pilgrim.

14:43Or uncontrolled muscle movements, which may be permanent.
14:46High cholesterol and weight gain may occur, as can high blood sugar, which may be fatal.
14:50Common side effects are sleepiness, dizziness, nausea, and dry mouth.
14:53These aren't all the side effects.
14:55Ask your doctor how Kapilida can help you let in the light.

15:00Mmm, Kapilida.
15:04Being so young, we really didn't know where to start.
15:08We actually had a great experience dealing with the DB team.

15:35Live, CBS January 11th.
15:38Hollywood's biggest party is now bigger than ever.
15:42Perfect.
15:42No-no.
15:43With more stars, more glamour, more chaos, and more host, Nikki Glaser.
15:51We're going to laugh at the celebrities that can take it and completely ignore the ones who can't.
15:56I'm just kidding.
15:56They're not safe either.
15:58The Golden Globes.
16:00Live, CBS Sunday, January 11th.
16:02And streaming on Paramount+.
16:04How secure is your storage unit?
16:19One in three Americans keep their stuff in locked storage facilities across the country, and they are booming in popularity.
16:27You'd think they'd be safe and secure, but maybe not.
16:30The guy who rents this one installed security cameras and changed the locks, but despite that, bad guys still broke in to steal his stuff.
16:39Les Trent has our investigation.
16:41This masked bandit is rifling through a Portland storage unit looking for loot, when suddenly he trips an alarm and then discovers he's being recorded.
16:53He frantically grabs a bag full of expensive tools and makes his getaway.
16:58Owner Charles Lewis says he watched the theft play out on his phone in real time.
17:03There was a masked guy in a ball cap going through stuff in our storage unit.
17:08It dawned on me, we're getting robbed.
17:10He quickly called the cops, but the thief was long gone when police arrived.
17:15He says the robber made off with $40,000 worth of equipment.
17:19We put a new lock on the storage unit and then thought that was it.
17:24But get this, the very next morning...
17:27I wake up like 7.30 in the morning, alert, more motion in our storage unit, and the criminals had come back.
17:34That's right, the nervy thieves returned.
17:37This time, it was his partner.
17:39The total take, $75,000.
17:42Experts say what many of us don't realize is that most storage facilities are not legally responsible
17:48in the event of a break-in.
17:51That leaves you on the hook if your belongings are ever stolen.
17:55They're also not required to report every break-in to the police,
17:59which means that your storage facility could be a hot spot that thieves keep coming back to,
18:04and you would never know it.
18:06Abby Heitner is a travel nurse and had stored all her belongings in this storage facility outside Denver.
18:14All her furniture, all her clothes.
18:17She says she didn't know the facility had 55 break-ins last year.
18:22It's been a huge impact financially, and it overall has truly impacted my life.
18:28In the course of a week, her unit was hit three separate times, a total loss of $80,000.
18:34This was all they left behind, her mattress.
18:38Oh, and a bunch of coat hangers.
18:41Pretty much everything that you can imagine that you accumulate in a lifetime.
18:46To keep your storage unit safe, there are things you can do.
18:49Experts say you should always look for a facility with a gated entrance
18:52that requires a special code to enter.
18:55Also, use a heavy-duty lock and install your own cameras.
18:59We'll be back with more Inside Edition after this.
19:02Still to come.
19:04Mocking in the new year, Americans going booze-free all month long and beyond.
19:12Cheers.
19:12Happy dry January.
19:13Yeah, we're making progress, like eating better.
19:21But I worry we need to do more to avoid another heart attack.
19:24I just want him to ask our doctor about Repatha.
19:26Repatha plus a statin lowers LDL-C.
19:29Do not take Repatha if you're allergic to it.
19:31Serious allergic reactions can occur.
19:33Get medical help right away if you have trouble breathing or swallowing.
19:36Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat, or arms.
19:38Common side effects include runny nose, sore throat, common cold symptoms, flu or flu-like symptoms, back pain, high blood sugar, and redness pain or bruising at the injection site.
19:46Ask about Repatha.
19:49Psoriatic arthritis symptoms can be unpredictable.
19:52One day, your joint's hurt.
19:54Next, it's on your skin.
19:55I got Cosentix.
19:57Feels good to move.
19:58Feel less joint pain, swelling and tenderness, back pain and clearer skin, and help stop further joint damage with Cosentix.
20:04Don't use if you're allergic to Cosentix.
20:06Before starting, get checked for tuberculosis.
20:08An increased risk of infections and lowered ability to fight them may occur, like tuberculosis or other serious bacterial, fungal, or viral infections.
20:15Some are fatal.
20:16Tell your doctor if you have an infection or symptoms like fevers, sweats, chills, muscle aches, or cough.
20:21Add a vaccine or plan to, or if inflammatory bowel disease symptoms develop or worsen.
20:25Serious allergic reactions and severe eczema-like skin reactions may occur.
20:30Just bust the mold.
20:31Ask your rheumatologist about Cosentix.

22:08The U.S. Surgeon General recently issued a major new advisory warning that drinking alcohol can increase your risk of getting cancer.
22:17He's recommending that alcoholic beverages carry a warning label just like cigarettes.
22:21The news comes as Dry January.
22:24The challenge of giving up drinking for the first month of the new year is growing in popularity.
22:29Here's Allison Hall.
22:31Happy Dry January.
22:32A lot of people are going to be doing Dry January.
22:34It's the month where folks ditch the booze and go alcohol free.
22:38I have done Dry January every year now for three years.
22:41The health benefits of cutting back on alcohol are astounding.
22:45Even after just one month, people can lose up to five to ten pounds.
22:49If you cut out alcohol for a month, you're going to notice improvements in your mood, in your sleep quality, in your energy level.
22:57You're also probably going to notice better skin.
22:59During Dry January, people sip on mocktails, cocktails without any alcohol content.
23:05There are great non-alcoholic wines, beers, and spirits that are on the market today.
23:09Hilary Scheinbaum is author of Going Dry, A Practical Guide to Drinking Less and Living More.
23:16We met up with Hilary at Albert's Bar in New York City.
23:19People are more wellness-focused than ever before.
23:22Gen Z is hardly drinking.
23:24And people just want to feel good.
23:26What are your best tips for Dry January?
23:28I always say, number one, recruit a friend because there's strength in numbers.
23:32And I also would say that be kind to yourself.
