00:00This is U.S. Marine veteran Eric Banks. Moments after this body cam footage,
00:13officers would find his horrifying secret stuffed inside his bedroom wall.
00:18Eric, who is also an active officer for Baltimore PD, thinks he can use his experience to cover up his vile murder.
00:39What follows is amongst the most disturbing collections of criminal case files ever uploaded to YouTube.
00:45Stop! I'm buckling! What do you do? I just threw my life away though. I don't care! Stop! What are you doing?
00:49Who is this person? Dad.
00:52And then he also told me that Daddy made him and Tristan go in the bathroom and cover their eyes.
00:58It's fine. I don't know.
01:04On July 7th in Millersville, Maryland, two officers arrive at the home of Eric Banks Jr.
01:09after his wife reported that their 15-year-old son, Dason, was potentially missing.
01:15The report was relatively standard for them, but the reality awaiting them is more horrifying than they could have imagined.
01:22Son, I'm on. Just laying it out.
01:25Son, I'm on.
01:34Officers report hearing loud bangs from the upstairs of the home.
01:37However, nobody comes to answer the door.
01:40After multiple minutes of waiting, an out-of-breath Eric finally greets the officers.
01:46Hey, how you doing?
01:48I'm doing good, boss and yourself.
01:49I'm doing good.
01:50Uh...
01:51I had a port of one.
01:52I'm out with him.
01:53What's going on today, man?
01:55You're supposed to be serving a police protector order.
01:57Supposed to be serving it on you or on...
01:59Both of those.
02:00Okay.
02:01The judge just ordered us to stay away from each other.
02:03Okay.
02:04Sit down, buddy. Sit down.
02:05Do you all have some sort of like court order agreement on custody or something?
02:08My oldest, I know he ran out the back door somewhere.
02:12All his stuff out the back door.
02:13He ran out?
02:14What's going on, boss?
02:15I know you're getting tired of seeing us.
02:18Where's DJ?
02:19She called him and he went out the back door.
02:21It's not here.
02:22No.
02:23You want to come in?
02:24Just to let you know you're being on it.
02:26Oh, I know. I see I got the body cam.
02:27Yeah.
02:28He was like...
02:29Do you have a phone?
02:30I took my phones back.
02:31Okay.
02:32Yeah, so all the phones are on.
02:34My plan, separating everything.
02:36And you have no idea where if you just let a 15-year-old walk out of your house with all his
02:39bags packed?
02:40No, his bags at the back door.
02:42I literally told him, wait for your mom to get here.
02:44She's supposed...
02:45The police supposed to come here to serve her a piece of protective order.
02:47Okay.
02:48The judge told her to call you guys before she comes to...
02:51I'm not trying to get in trouble.
02:52I understand.
02:53Eric and his wife Latrice had both individually filed a protective order against each other,
02:58making it illegal to speak to one another without a police escort.
03:01However, since Eric is not the biological father of Dason, Latrice had custodial rights to him,
03:08which is why he was packing his belongings as he and Latrice were preparing to leave the residence.
03:14Dason's disappearance on the very day he and his mom were supposed to move out makes the situation even more unusual.
03:20So officers continue speaking with Eric, hoping to understand the family dynamic and gather any clues that might point to where Dason is.
03:27But what Eric says next only raises their suspicions even further.
03:31So, she's supposed to call you to come meet y'all?
03:35You have no idea where DJ is?
03:36Honestly, bro, no.
03:37I like...
03:38With no phone or anything.
03:39You can check the ADT.
03:40It shows when he ran out the door.
03:41I believe you.
03:42But, I mean...
03:43I'm not like...
03:44I'm not gonna fight.
03:45I'm not gonna do that.
03:46Listen, man.
03:47It's a 15-year-old boy.
03:48Having a phone probably would have been, if he's walking out of the house, probably would have been a good idea to leave him with.
03:52And you can work out those kinks later.
03:54See, this is the thing.
03:55This is getting messy, man.
03:56Yeah, I tried to tell him.
03:57I said, sit here, wait for your mom to get here.
04:00I went upstairs.
04:01Before I could come downstairs, he's already going out the back door.
04:04So, she...
04:05I guess she coordinated, because she's somewhere in the area, I'm presuming.
04:08Yeah.
04:09So, she pretty much coordinated with him to come out there.
04:11Okay.
04:12Alright, hang tight.
04:13Alright.
04:14Sitting beside Eric are his two sons.
04:16Five-year-old Evan Banks and three-year-old Tristan Banks.
04:20Officers didn't know it at the time, but these two would play a pivotal role in uncovering the horrifying scene that just happened inside their home.
04:29But for now, Officer Sutton goes back to his patrol vehicle to run a registration.
04:34He identifies the suspect as 34-year-old Eric Banks Jr., an officer for the Baltimore Police Department.
04:40He's been an active officer since 2018 and also carries 10 years of service in the United States Marine Corps.
04:47After speaking with neighbors of Eric, who provided minimal additional information, officers would confront Eric once again, this time sternly, to figure out what was going on.
04:57It's here that Eric would explain his alibi, one he had come up with just minutes ago.
05:02We found out about the whole situation.
05:05His mom.
05:06That's, that's, that's, that's neither here nor there at this point, man.
05:09This is what I'm trying to tell you.
05:11Me and him sat at the table, he cried to me yesterday.
05:13He said he don't want it.
05:14He don't want this separation.
05:15He's like, he know we're separate before.
05:17He said he's tired of it.
05:18He's tired to feel like he has two sides.
05:20He's 15, he's a teeny.
05:21He knows where, he don't want to be.
05:23And he's like, I don't want to be in separate homes with that.
05:25And we said that to him.
05:26I said, DJ, it's, it's nothing really we can do.
05:28I'm not going to change you.
05:29I love you, care for you.
05:30We, we had a whole deep, hard conversation.
05:32Today, we went to court.
05:34The judge awarded him, and I called him.
05:36I said, DJ, I guess your mom told the judge you wanted to go with her, and you're going everywhere.
05:39He's like, what?
05:40I don't.
05:41I was like, well, start packing your bags, because you're going with Arizona with your mom.
05:44Unfortunately, I guess you're not coming back here.
05:46And that's, that was just that.
05:48She called him.
05:49He had a conversation.
05:50I said, what did your mom say?
05:51She don't know where to come pick you up.
05:52He said, yeah, but she's supposed to come here.
05:54I said, well, we're going to wait.
05:55Because before she come here, there's some type of modification.
05:57There needs to be police here.
05:58They can escort her, grab her whatever she needs to grab, and then go about this piece.
06:02Next thing you know, I went upstairs.
06:03I come out.
06:04So, did you think he, did he leave here?
06:06Because he didn't want to go with his mom either?
06:09That could be.
06:10And he could be, like, hiding out of a friend's house?
06:12I mean, yes, sir.
06:13That's what I'm saying.
06:14Yeah, in my opinion, I think that's, that probably is the best.
06:16Because if you told her he's someone who's got.
06:17Because the next message is from her, he's, I have food for you, okay.
06:20Yeah.
06:21So it sounded like he wanted to go be with his mom.
06:23Yeah.
06:24So, that's what I'm saying.
06:25Okay.
06:26All right.
06:27All right.
06:28Just put the bags inside for now.
06:29Okay.
06:30And we'll try to figure it out.
06:31All right, brother.
06:32Yeah.
06:33Officers would spend another 15 minutes canvassing the area in hopes of finding Dason,
06:37but would, again, come up clueless.
06:39So they decide to try calling Dason's mother, Latrice, but are unable to get a hold of her
06:44either.
06:45So in a desperate attempt to find a relevant lead, they decide to ask Eric if he'd voluntarily
06:50consent to a search inside the home, hoping Dason may be hiding inside.
06:54No one expected that this simple request would soon alter both their and Eric's lives forever.
07:01I just want to make sure he's out of the house.
07:02That's fine.
07:03I'll do it with you then, since we're here.
07:04Hey, Buck, can I do it once in order to make sure he's not hiding?
07:05Yeah.
07:06Yeah.
07:07So, uh, Dave's about to walk through.
07:08If he's a little bit, I'll walk through.
07:09He's trying to stay over here.
07:10We've got to help.
07:11All right.
07:12All right.
07:13What's your room?
07:14The one with the bunk bed right here?
07:15Yeah.
07:16This is the kids' room.
07:17DJ!
07:18This is my room right here.
07:19Oh, yeah.
07:20He's talking.

07:38He's talking.
07:39He's talking.
07:40He's talking.
07:41In Officer Adams' report of the incident, he notes that at this point in their home search,
07:45Eric's demeanor had changed.
07:47He advised Eric to relax and let them freely search the home.
07:51They proceed to make their way to the third floor of the home.
07:54The floor which stores Eric's chilling secret.

09:12So this is where my...
09:14Okay.
09:15You got your little weight on yourself?
09:17Yes, sir.
09:18You got my light back?
09:19Okay.
09:22It might dim on you.
09:24What's up?
09:25All right.
09:26What's up, bro?
09:28I got it.
09:29Inside the hole in Eric's bedroom lies Dason's deceased body, already cold to the touch.
09:38Eric forgot to fully close the hole before meeting with the officers.
09:42The gruesome discovery would leave the two officers in shock.
09:47They try to keep their composure while transporting Eric to a patrol vehicle.
09:52What's up?
09:53Okay, it came right now.
09:58All right, where are we?
09:59Sorry, Matty.
10:00I have one start now.
10:02Okay.
10:03DJ!
10:04DJ!
10:05DJ!
10:06DJ!
10:07What's up?
10:08What happened?
10:09Let's go to the car, all right?
10:10Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:11Let's go to the car.
10:12Anyone?
10:13From the front.
10:14All right.
10:15Yes.
10:16Oh, in the front one's turn.
10:18Here, let me move one thing out of your way.
10:20I agree.
10:21All right, just a seat for me.
10:23All right.
10:24While Eric is being detained, Officer Voss attempts life-saving measures on Dason, noting
10:29that his condition appeared consistent with an unresponsive individual.
10:33He also notes that Dason was shirtless and that his jeans were heavily soaked with moisture
10:38from an unknown source.
10:40Outside the home, Eric is temporarily placed in the patrol vehicle, but within moments, the
10:45situation begins to spiral out of the officer's control.
10:48That's a good train.
10:49Now, bro.
10:50Stay seated.
10:51Yeah, I want to talk to you.
10:52All right.
10:53Yeah.
10:54I need you to stay seated.
10:55Okay.
10:56Okay.
10:57All right.
10:58Okay.
10:59Go ahead.
11:00Can I just kiss my boys real quick?
11:01No, no, no.
11:02Just now.
11:03I need you to kiss my boys real quick.
11:04Listen.
11:05Yeah, I got you, bro.
11:06Just let me kiss my boys real quick.
11:07Stay in the car.
11:08Just let me kiss my boys real quick, bro.

11:14I'm not doing all day.
11:15I'm not— start a lot.
11:16Faster.
11:17I'm not doing all my part.
11:18Oh, shit.
11:20You just—
11:21Dude, I'll die.
11:22Here.
11:22Listen.
11:24Just sit down.
11:25All right.
11:26All right.

11:28Turn around.
11:29Don't, don't do anything.
11:30I'm not.
11:31Stay in the car.
11:32Stay in the car.
11:33Stay up against the car.
11:34Oh, okay.
11:35I'm not going with you.
11:36Stop running.
11:37What are you doing?
11:38I just want to kiss my boy, bro.
11:39Come on.
11:40Just let me kiss my boy.
11:41Get back in the car.
11:42All right, come on, come on.
11:43Come on.
11:48Hey, Eric, stop.
11:50The lawn is parked at the corner of Hilltop.
11:55Stay in there.
11:56You're not coming out no matter what.
11:58Sorry, bro.
11:59Without additional units on scene, Officer Sutton struggles to keep Eric restrained.
12:05Sutton attempts to secure Eric's handcuffs using a double lock,
12:09a mechanism that prevents cuffs from tightening or being manipulated.
12:13However, Eric uses his police experience to exploit this.
12:17And while his previous attempts at evasion have failed,
12:19he'd make one more final, far more violent attempt to get away.
12:26I just threw my life away.
12:27Just stop.
12:27What are you doing?
12:28I just threw my life away, bro.
12:29Will you stop?
12:30Okay.
12:31Stop unbuckling.
12:32I just threw my life away, though.
12:33I don't care.
12:34Hey, listen.
12:35Stop.
12:35Just choke.
12:36Stop.
12:37What are you doing?
12:37Just choke me.
12:38Just choke me.
12:39Get back in the car.
12:41Just choke me.
12:42Just choke me.
12:45Antifor, get out of my way.
12:46Can you come back out here, please?
12:47Hey, get out of my way.
12:48Look, just choke me.
12:50Just choke me.
12:53Antifor, you're trying to grab a cut.
12:55Antifor, you're trying to grab a cut.
13:00Stop.
13:00Stop.
13:01Stop.
13:01Stop.
13:02Stop.
13:02Stop.
13:03Stop.
13:04Stop.
13:04Stop.
13:05Stop.
13:05I can't stop.
13:06Yes, you can't.
13:07Kill me down.
13:08Turn him out.
13:08Turn him out.
13:09Turn him out.
13:18All right.
13:18Pull him out.
13:19Pull him out.
13:20Pull him out.
13:21Switch.
13:22Stop, stop, stop.
13:27I can't stop.
13:28Yes, you can't.
13:29It's on my wrist.
13:30And my pain's going numb.
13:31Are you going to stop?
13:32Yeah.
13:33I can't.
13:34My hand's going numb.
13:35Alright.
13:36Hold on.
13:37I told you, you broke me.
13:38It's numb.
13:39Alright.
13:40Stay where you're at.
13:41Stay here.
13:42I am coming here, but I told you, you broke me.
13:44Alright.
13:45I'm over your legs.
13:46Alright.
13:47Take a deep breath.
13:48I am.
13:49Alright, listen.
13:50We're dying.
13:51We're not dying.
13:52We're not dying.
13:53We're going to take you to the hospital.
13:54Alright.
13:55Alright.
13:56Well, let's just not wrestle anymore.
13:57This is hot as shit today.
13:58I know.
13:59You sweating?
14:00I'm sweating.
14:01Can we be done?
14:02I want to be on the ground.
14:03Alright, well, let's go to the hospital and talk about it.
14:04We don't need to wrestle on the ground.
14:05Is that helping anything?
14:06No, it's not.
14:07Alright?
14:08Alright.
14:09Okay.
14:10Eric attempts to unholster Officer Sutton's service weapon,
14:13eventually managing to loosen it and nearly knocking it to the ground.
14:17Unfortunately, Eric's handcuffs prevented him from causing any further harm.
14:21As the chaotic scene finally settles, officers briefly discuss the frantic events that just unfolded.
14:27I go up the subway to meet her, going to make sure he didn't go to the subway to miss communication.
14:31Coming up here, I said, let me just check the house.
14:34It started getting real weird.
14:35I'm like, look, you just stay back.
14:36He's a daughter in our city.
14:37It started to get real weird.
14:39I'm like, no, I can check the house.
14:40You stay back.
14:41You stay back.
14:42You stay back.
14:43You stay back.
14:44I go up and wait off.
14:45He goes, he wouldn't be up here.
14:46There's an attic thing.
14:47I'm done with screwing it.
14:48He looked in there and saw the boy laying there.
14:49I'm responsible.
14:50Drug him out where he is now and did what I could.
14:53Immediately, soon I saw the boy's lady at 95, get him out of here and ask for more units
14:58to start a CPR, drug him out and start a CPR.
15:01Okay.
15:02All right.
15:03Are you good?
15:04I am.
15:05Let's go.
15:06You're good.
15:09You're not hurt.
15:10You're hurt.
15:11No, I'm hurt.
15:12I thought I just did that first.
15:15You're getting out of here.
15:18I'm going to take the whole block, bro.
15:20Hey, Steve.
15:21Hey, Kim.
15:22Come on.
15:23I'm still up with him.
15:24Give him still CPR.
15:25I'm not like you.
15:26I'm not like you.
15:27I'm not like you.
15:28I'm not like you.
15:29I'm not like you.
15:30I'm not like you.
15:31I'm not like you.
15:32Where's the 10-7?
15:33Uh, 14-48, inside?
15:34Yeah, like, well, we went upstairs.
15:37I got sick of her.
15:38I got sick of her.
15:39Yeah.
15:40EMS attempted to perform CPR on Dason, but it was too late.
15:59Dason was declared deceased shortly after by EMS.
16:03What officers uncovered with Dason was only the beginning.
16:07As the investigation deepens, Erik's children would reveal further secrets, painting an
16:12even darker picture of the reality behind closed doors.
16:17For now, the decision is made to take Erik, his children, and his ex-wife Latrice to the
16:22police station.
16:23Police reports state that while Erik is being transported, he struck his head multiple times
16:29against the cage window bar, causing a welt to his head and damage to the patrol vehicle.
16:34Despite this, everyone would eventually make it to the station, each separated into their
16:39own individual rooms, awaiting intense interrogation.
16:43Erik would be left alone to hopefully calm down and collect his thoughts.
16:48Meanwhile, detectives speak with both Latrice and her child Evan, hoping to collect more
16:53information that can be used when speaking with their main suspect.
16:56They start with Latrice, asking her what kind of person Dason was.
17:00At this point, detectives are considering the possibility that he and Erik may have gotten
17:05into a fight that somehow escalated into tragedy.
17:08But what Latrice describes denies that theory completely, and makes Dason's case even more
17:14heartbreaking.
17:15Can you sit a little bit closer over here?
17:21There's a lot of specific questions that I wanted to talk to you about.
17:26Can you describe DJ?
17:27Was he an argumentative person?
17:29Was he a quiet person?
17:32So, Dason was more of a quiet person until he got to know you, but he was always mannered.
17:40He talked to a lot of adults, but he never was disrespectful or any of that.
17:46I had teachers from his elementary, the principal, middle school, they all showed up for my son.
17:52He was that type of child.
17:53You know when teachers come.
17:55Would you say he was a sweet boy?
17:57He was very sweet and always willing to help.
17:59That was one of the things across the board.
18:02Always willing to help.
18:03In the loft, in the crawl space in the loft, what was normally kept in there?
18:10Nothing.
18:11Uh, safes?
18:13Nothing.
18:14Was that ever left open?
18:16No.
18:17It was always screwed?
18:18It was always closed.
18:19Okay.
18:20Because I don't like it.
18:21Like, it freaked me out.
18:22There is a light switch in there.
18:23Okay.
18:24So I was like, where is that light coming from?
18:26And I turned the light switch off.
18:28But, I don't know, maybe it was him.
18:30So let's talk about that.
18:31You called me and you said that you saw him, you viewed him at the funeral.
18:35Are you okay?
18:36Yeah.
18:37Okay.
18:38And it was before he was involved, because I wanted to see him.
18:40Right.
18:41And you saw new bruises?
18:42Yes.
18:43Where did you see new bruises?
18:45On his nose.
18:46Like, that circular, dark mark on his upper nose.
18:52Mm-hmm.
18:53His look looked busted also.
18:54Mm-hmm.
18:55Like, that wasn't there.
18:57And then his eyes were, like, purple.
18:59I don't, like...
19:00They were puffy and purple.
19:02Yeah.
19:03It looked to me like he was in a fight.
19:07And my son doesn't fight.
19:09Dason's autopsy report ruled his cause of death as asphyxiation, which, in combination with
19:14the bruises and marks on his face, implied he was likely strangled to death.
19:19I knew it.
19:20And he was my baby.
19:21So, I knew it.
19:23I still have those feelings that, no, I'm not happy with it.
19:28Because to me, it doesn't say I did it.
19:30But it says there's enough evidence to say I did it.
19:32So, you know, just say you did it then.
19:35Latrice makes it clear she believes Eric is responsible.
19:39Even though she didn't witness the incident herself.
19:42But her son Evan, seated just three doors down in his own interview room, has information
19:47that could take the investigation even further.
19:50How are you?
19:51Good.
19:52Good.
19:53You said your name is Evan Decker?
19:56Do you know how to spell your name?
19:59You can go ahead and write it down.
20:03Seven.
20:04Okay.
20:05Nice handwriting.
20:06And how old are you?
20:07Seven.
20:08Seven?
20:09You want to write seven for me?
20:10Yes.
20:11So I don't forget.
20:12Sometimes I forget.
20:13Notice the harsh contrast between interview rooms.
20:17Evan is sitting in the department's safety room.
20:19A space created to provide comfort and reduce stress for victims and young children involved
20:24in sensitive cases.
20:25His interviewer, Miwa, is a forensic interviewer for Maryland.
20:29Trained specifically to speak with children and family members connected to a criminal investigation.
20:34And because Evan is only seven years old, you'll notice a drastic difference in how his
20:39interview is conducted.
20:40My job is to talk to kids and families all the time.
20:43And today I get to talk to you.
20:45And I, you know, we talk about a lot of different things in this room.
20:49And this is called the safe room because anything we talk about is always safe and you're
20:55not in any trouble.
20:56You're just, I'm just here to listen to you and talk to you.
20:59Okay.
21:00Miwa explains to Evan that everything is being recorded and that he is not in trouble,
21:04but rather just there to help him out.
21:06She spends 15 minutes talking about movies and more of Evan's interests to help him get
21:10more comfortable before discussing the day of Dason's murder.
21:13And Evan, who do you live with?
21:15My mom.
21:16Your mom?
21:17And Tristan.
21:18Anyone else?
21:19I live with TJ.
21:20And then my dad.
21:21Okay.
21:22Okay.
21:23And do you know what you're here to talk about today?
21:24No.
21:25No.
21:26No.
21:27So, um, tell me a little bit about your family.
21:28Um, Tristan.
21:29Tristan, he likes to fight and play and steal toys from others.
21:46I like the color and then I also like Kits Bop and Tristan.
21:53And you said you also live with the DJ, is that right?
21:57Uh-huh.
21:58And the mom and Tristan.
22:00So, DJ.
22:01How old is DJ?
22:02Uh, 15.
22:0315?
22:04Um, tell me about DJ.
22:06DJ likes going in the water, jiggling.
22:11Hmm.
22:12Can't really remember all the stuff he used to do.
22:15But he loved playing Roblox, games.
22:19Tell me about the last time you saw DJ.
22:22Hmm.
22:23When mom wasn't at the house.
22:26Tell me who was at the house.
22:28Dad.
22:29And then DJ.
22:31Uh-huh.
22:32And then me.
22:34DJ was going in his own with mommy.
22:37And then Daddy was waiting at the door with DJ.
22:41DJ put his bags in the basement and then...
22:44I don't remember what happened next.
22:47That's all I remember.
22:49Okay.
22:50Miwa would tell Evan to draw the last time he saw Dason.
22:53And he'd draw the staircase leading to the home's loft.
22:56The same staircase Eric has dragged Dason's body up.
23:00And so, who is this person?
23:02That was DJ.
23:04That was DJ?
23:05Where was Dad?
23:06Where was Dad?
23:07Right here.
23:08Oh, okay.
23:09So, Dad was up here and then DJ was right there?
23:12Yeah.
23:13Okay.
23:14Where did they go after?
23:15They never went anywhere.
23:16They were just waiting at the steps.
23:18Oh, they were waiting at the steps?
23:20Who was he waiting for?
23:21Or what was he waiting for?
23:23He was waiting for Mom King.
23:25Oh.
23:26The DJ.
23:27Did that happen?
23:28No.
23:29Not yet.
23:30Not yet?
23:31Was there anything that you worried about on that day?
23:34Mmm.
23:35Oh.
23:36I wonder if there's anything that you were scared about that day.
23:40Mmm.
23:41I wasn't scared.
23:43Evan struggles to reveal the details of the events he saw that day.
23:47Likely due to the discomfort of speaking with a stranger in a police station.
23:51The information he gave his mother on the day of the incident provides far clearer insight
23:56into the disturbing events he saw.
23:57You said that one of your children said something to you?
24:00Evan.
24:01Evan.
24:02And what did Evan say?
24:03That he saw Daddy bringing DJ upstairs.
24:06And I said, where were you?
24:08And he said he was in the living room.
24:10I just didn't want to pry too much.
24:12But then I said, oh, was DJ sleeping?
24:15He said, no, he wasn't snoring.
24:17And then I said, was he moving?
24:20And he was just like, no.
24:22And then he also told me that Daddy made him and Tristan go in the bathroom and cover their eyes.
24:29Okay.
24:30But this was before.
24:31This was when the police first knocked at the door.
24:34Okay.
24:35Evan didn't say anything about the knock because he told him to go in the bathroom first.
24:40So I'm a little confused of like the order.
24:42So I don't know if that's maybe when he was going to let the police in.
24:46But Evan did say he saw that.
24:48And he was in the living room because he told me he was watching Loki.
24:53In addition to these grim details, Latrice would go on to explain how Eric's life had begun to collapse all in synchrony.
25:00Due to the protective peace order Latrice had filed, Eric was suspended from the Baltimore Police Department.
25:06The very same day of Dason's death.
25:10He had just separated from his wife, was about to lose his children, and was now left without a job.
25:16Latrice also explained that the peace order she filed was not her first attempt to separate herself from Eric.
25:23Months prior, Latrice filed her first peace protective order, writing,
25:27I am in fear for my life and well-being because Eric Banks keeps trying to control, follow, and emotionally abuse myself and my sons.
25:36The order was denied however, and it wasn't until months later that her second attempt was granted.
25:43It was clear Eric's life was falling apart leading up to Dason's death.
25:47Eric had hidden his body, lied to officers regarding his whereabouts, and had a violent outburst once the body was discovered.
25:55It'd be hard to assume that he wasn't directly implicated in Dason's death.
25:59But evidence alone wouldn't be nearly enough to get him to confess.
26:03After all, he was a police officer of 10 years, and knew how the criminal justice system worked just as well as any interrogator working against him.
26:11But unfortunately for Eric, the interrogation he was about to undergo would crack even the most well-trained of suspects.
26:20Eric is placed into Anne Arendelle County Interview Room 2B.
26:24This room was designed for priority matters, exclusive to high-profile cases.
26:30Because Eric had attempted to attack an officer earlier in the day, he's been handcuffed to the table to restrict movement.
26:36Eric is left alone for multiple hours as the detectives prepare for his interrogation.
26:42While waiting, he can be seen glancing around the room multiple times, likely searching for a camera.
26:47What Eric didn't know is Interview Room 2B has a small camera placed in an unusual location, which Eric never managed to spot.
26:57The primary investigator assigned to this case is Detective Louis Adrian.
27:01His prior service in the United States military likely factored into the department's strategic choice to have him conduct the interview.
27:08This shared background enables Adrian to establish rapport with Eric, a key component in the upcoming interaction.
27:15So, you know while we're here, we want to talk about what happened, why it happened, and anything surrounding that whole situation.
27:27But you know as well as all of us, that we have to go through Miranda with you.
27:31So what I'm going to do is we're just going to go through Miranda first of all, and then I'll start getting all of the other information, okay?
27:37After reading Eric his rights, the detectives would spend nearly an hour connecting with Eric and bonding over their shared military experience.
27:45He's like, now you come in, you're in front. Okay.
27:48We go back in, we're about to go in the building, like, you're in front.
27:50She's like, why did we say you? Like, uh-uh.
27:52Some people were made, you know, to do certain things, and they said, I'm not made to be a front person.
27:56Yeah, but, so I'm running a block then, and I remember, so I was just like, hey, whoever that offer is right there running, just keep going, keep going, because you're about to run right into them.
28:05And I don't know where these two guys just come out, pop out, and I'm like, okay, I got him.
28:10And he just phoned over, and he was like, he was like, yeah, whoever that was running, he was moving, and you just ran, and I was just like, he was like, don't, because I was slowing down, like, trying to look.
28:18He's like, no, keep going. And I'm running like, okay, you're going to tell me when?
28:22This friendly conversation appeared to take Eric out of the tense mental state.
28:26It appeared that Eric sharing his favorite moments from the military gave him a sense of importance, like he had an identity he was proud of, or at least used to be.
28:35But that moment is short-lived, as he's quickly brought back to the reality of why he's sitting inside a police interrogation room.
28:43So, you spent three years, and you're still active in the Baltimore City Police Department.
28:49Yes, sir.
28:50So, from what I hear, you're suspended?
28:52No, I'm suspended. Well, I'm suspended, yes.
28:54Okay. Why? Can you tell me what's going on with that?
28:57May 8th, I got a piece of protective work against my wife.
29:00Okay.
29:01You got one against her?
29:02Yeah, I got one against her.
29:03Same day, she took the firearms out of the house. She took the safe out of her home.
29:08You know, Landon County did press charges. What is it?
29:11They press charges against her for taking the safe with the firearms.
29:16The firearms.
29:17Yes, sir.
29:18And were they your duty firearms?
29:19Duty firearms. My whole full duty belt was in there.
29:21Okay.
29:22Firearm, taser, magazine, pouches, everything was in there.
29:26She turned around, and when they got a piece on me, saying that I was following her.
29:31But once she got it, that's when pretty much I had to get suspended.
29:34Yeah, I had to get suspended.
29:35Her mom sent my mom something, talking about I was following her.
29:38This and then I'm like, how? I'm here at work.
29:41How you see? I was following.
29:43I was like, there's no way.
29:44That's when we both ended up at the courthouse, and I was like,
29:48because I was like, I'm just putting a stop to this.
29:50So I let the clerk know.
29:51I was like, I don't know what's going on, but every time that,
29:54and my wife's trying to leave or something's trying to happen secretly,
29:58there's a peace order for me to get kicked out of the house.
30:01And I was like, that's when he brought us both in.
30:04So we both got seen by the judge, and he granted us a peace order for both of us to stay away from each other.
30:08Okay.
30:09Yeah.
30:10What was that?
30:11That was just, was it two days ago?
30:12Okay.
30:13Was it, no.
30:14Monday?
30:15No, yesterday.
30:16Tuesday.
30:17Tuesday, yeah.
30:18So y'all met with the judge?
30:19Tuesday.
30:20And you're still suspended up until this point?
30:21Yeah, I'm still suspended.
30:22So when, maybe, maybe it's the way Baltimore works and how slow they are and stuff.
30:26So you have the peace order, she gets one on you, and then it gets...
30:29Denied.
30:30Denied.
30:31I have to do that full.
30:32They have to do that.
30:33Yeah.
30:34So you're still suspended even though it's been cleared up?
30:36Yes.
30:37Gotcha. Okay.
30:38At this point, the detectives had no reason to assume Eric was lying.
30:42He'd been open and honest with them the entire time, and seemed rather friendly.
30:46It isn't until they begin discussing the day of the incident, that investigators realized
30:51Eric's perceived honesty had all been a calculated act.
30:55So yesterday we go, yesterday we go to court, get the peace and protective orders.
30:58They grant the whole motion, I mean, for us to stay away from each other.
31:02The two youngest boys are supposed to stay with me.
31:04The oldest, he's going to Arizona, but his mother.
31:06And she's like, she tells the judge, like, that's what you want to do about something.
31:09So right after that, you know, I called him and said, hey, start packing your bags.
31:13You know, you're going to be going with your mom.
31:14He's like, what? Why?
31:16I'm like, your mom said you wanted this.
31:18This is what you're supposed to do.
31:19You know, I guess, I don't know.
31:20I didn't have that conversation.
31:21Previously, too, that me and him had literally just sat down at the table,
31:25because I could tell that my son was like depressed and he was going through.
31:28And that's really what I'll trip to on the first list, like, just to try to get him away,
31:32meet him out.
31:33We sat down at the table and I'm like, what's going on with you?
31:35How are you feeling about this?
31:37Where are you at with this?
31:38And he's like, honestly, I don't know.
31:40He's like, I hate it.
31:41I don't feel like I don't want to feel like I'm choosing sides.
31:44I just want to be left alone by everybody.
31:46Because then it's like, they're calling me telling me this and this, this and that.
31:49And it's like, I got to keep certain things for you.
31:52He's like, I don't want to keep, I don't want to be a part of this.
31:55He's like, I'm tired.
31:56So I said, you just go and start packing your bags.
31:59And he's like, okay.
32:00We wait.
32:01I get my paperwork.
32:02I come home.
32:03And on my way home, just like, I just felt like I was done.
32:07Like, you know what?
32:08Today's going to be the day.
32:09I'm going to do it.
32:10Dude, dude.
32:11Okay.
32:12I feel like my family's falling apart.
32:15I'm suspended from work.
32:17I'm possibly going to lose my job.
32:19So it was like, situation.
32:21Building.
32:22Build.
32:23Just keep going.
32:24Just keep going.
32:25Vendetta.
32:26I even sent to Texas and said, I don't know why we feel like we have to be at war.
32:29Right.
32:30Like, we shouldn't have to be at war.
32:31It's like, if you, I would lie to these guys.
32:33So like, you got to guess what are you trying to move in with them?
32:35You know, tell them that you're living in hotels where you're not.
32:37You're staying with your mom.
32:38Like, what are you doing?
32:39So at this point, it's like, you know what?
32:41I'm just tired.
32:42Yeah, you're tired of it.
32:43Yeah.
32:44It's a way out to get peace.
32:45I get.
32:46Yeah.
32:47A lot of people go through that, man.
32:48Yeah.
32:49And it was just like nothing.
32:50I felt like everything was just coming to me.
32:51And I feel like that now.
32:52Like, honestly, everything was coming to me.
32:54I was like, you know what?
32:55I'm just going to do it.
32:56Yeah.
32:57So when you got home yesterday, was there anyone in the house?
33:01Yes.
33:02It was.
33:03The son was in the house.
33:04Okay.
33:05Evan was in the house and Tristan was in the house.
33:06So you go in there and you're doing all this stuff, right?
33:08I go in there and I go, yeah, I go in there.
33:10And I see him upstairs.
33:11Like, he got his bags packed.
33:12I had to go and take your stuff downstairs when your mom's come.
33:15And she called him.
33:16It's like, mom's calling.
33:17And he was like, what did I say to her?
33:18I was like, you know, tell her, you know, just talk to her.
33:21Like, you know, she called me, whatever.
33:22And he answers the phone and they have a conversation.
33:26And that's when I'm like, okay, what'd she say to you?
33:28She said, she said, she said she's going to be in the area.
33:30Just bring my stuff downstairs.
33:31I said, okay, cool.
33:32I said, so the police should be coming.
33:33And when they come, everything goes smoothly.
33:36This is the moment where Eric's act begins.
33:39Notice how he begins looking blankly into the ceiling as he recounts critical moments.
33:43For the last hour, Eric hardly looked up to the ceiling once.
33:47I go downstairs and I'm in the kitchen.
33:49I just made a big bowl of, uh, cool, was it?
33:53Gatorade.
33:54Not a big bowl, but a big picture of Gatorade.
33:56It's blue.
33:57It's probably, I believe it's still on the counter.
33:59But like I said, you say you never went down.
34:00Yeah, I don't know.
34:01Um, the bag of crushed up pills that I have was right there.
34:06The son came downstairs.
34:08He, he asked me something.
34:11And he was like, um, what did he say?
34:15I was like, he came upstairs.
34:17He came upstairs.
34:18He asked me something.
34:19And I can't remember his exact verse, but he was like, asked me.
34:22Uh, what was it?
34:23I'm out.
34:24I think it was a leave or something like that.
34:27I said, the son, just wait.
34:28We're not going to like, cause he was like, I don't want to go.
34:30He was just telling me that he didn't want to go and shit like that.
34:32I said, look, just wait.
34:33We're not going to talk about shit.
34:34Cause I'm like, I'm going to take your brothers to your mom's house.
34:36And I was coming back.
34:37I said, your mom gets here with the police before I get back.
34:39Unfortunately, you got to go with her.
34:40That's just the way it is.
34:41He's upstairs.
34:42I remember Tristan.
34:43I told Tristan and I said, Tristan, go get your shoes.
34:46Tristan said, okay.
34:47So Tristan goes, he goes upstairs.
34:48He gets his shoes.
34:49And he comes.
34:50He's like, daddy, what's wrong?
34:51I call him DJ.
34:52I'm like, huh?
34:54So then I go upstairs and he's in the, he's in the bath.
34:57He's in the bathroom and he's in the tub.
35:00That's when I seen him.
35:03I was like, what the fuck?
35:05That's why I pulled him out the tub.
35:07And as I pulled him out the tub, I laid him flat on his back on the floor.
35:10Mm-hm.
35:11And was it, uh, at that time, I'm not sure I think it was Edward and Tristan.
35:20He was like, daddy, somebody at the door.
35:23And I'm just looking at my feet.
35:25I'm like, what the fuck is this?
35:27I'm like, what the fuck?
35:29Eric makes his story clear.
35:32He had planned to end his life.
35:34But coincidentally, Dyson had the same plan and did it first.
35:38That's an extremely complex alibi and only becomes more unlikely after Eric explains why
35:44Dyson's body ended up hidden inside his bedroom.
35:47So I go downstairs, I go to the front door.
35:50The officer's there.
35:51Okay.
35:52And I panicked.
35:53I was like, I don't know what the fuck to say.
35:56So he asked me, he was like, hey, um, what's going on?
35:59I start talking to him, telling him what's going on.
36:01He was at, what did he say?
36:04He said, so what's the situation?
36:06And I tell him about the situation.
36:08And I was like, um, you know, my wife, she's fully waiting on y'all to come.
36:12You know, y'all slowly serving him with a piece of protective order.
36:15And when I, he's like, she like, yeah, she's fully.
36:17She's a little bit like, yeah, she's fully.
36:18He's picking up outside.
36:19And he was like, uh, is she here?
36:21And at the time he was still, he was upstairs in the floor.
36:23Okay.
36:24In the bathroom.
36:25When he said, was she here?
36:26My mind, I was like, no.
36:28Okay.
36:29Yeah.
36:30You panicked.
36:31Yeah.
36:32Um, cause it already looked bad.
36:33I already moved him.
36:34And I was like, yeah, um, was it.
36:37And when, was it, uh, when I got out of the bathroom,
36:41when I got out of the bathtub, I asked the author,
36:43and it's the most body one camera's on.
36:44You can see, uh, I asked him like, can I go in the office,
36:46you know, use the bathroom real quick.
36:48I remember I'm asking that.
36:49And he was like, he's like, no, no, just wait, just wait, just wait.
36:51Okay.
36:52And then the other officer show up.
36:53And then when he show up, he's asking, he's like, so, um,
36:56is the song here?
36:57Still the same thing.
36:58I should have said yes.
37:00You know.
37:01Yeah.
37:02I knew the perfect world.
37:03I knew my state of mind.
37:05My state of mind was to kill Eric.
37:07Okay.
37:08Now let me ask you this.
37:09Is that why, um, cause I did watch some of the footage
37:13when they went to loosen your handcuffs,
37:15you kind of got a little silly on them.
37:17Do you remember that?
37:18Yeah.
37:19What was your, I mean, you went for the officer's gun.
37:20What was up with that?
37:21Well, when I first, before we get to that,
37:24when I first went back in the house,
37:25when the officer told me, the tall officer, he told me, um,
37:28he said, uh, go get the song's phone.
37:30Mm-hmm.
37:31I ran upstairs.
37:32His phone was in the, in the bathroom on the counter.
37:34Okay.
37:35So I run upstairs and I get the phone.
37:37Cause it was great.
37:38Right.
37:39Before I did that, I asked him, I said, can I go upstairs?
37:41Can I use it?
37:42I mean, can I go in and use the bathroom?
37:43So I initially went to shut the door.
37:45He said, he said, no, no, just wait.
37:46And then the other office, he was like, well, go on.
37:48I need you to go grab the song's phone.
37:49I ran up, grab it.
37:50And I'm staring.
37:51And I shut the bathroom.
37:52Which bathroom was it?
37:53Was it the one of the master or the small?
37:55No, the small one.
37:56Okay.
37:57And I'm still shaking or whatever.
37:59Um, and then when I come back downstairs, I go, how is it?
38:05I go out the door.
38:06I give him the phone.
38:07I'm still shaking in my head.
38:08Like, and everything's in my head saying like, Eric, just, just say what you saw.
38:13But then in my other part of it, it was like, my son just did this.
38:18Right.
38:19Objectively, Eric's story hits all the points.
38:23He has an excuse for almost every suspicious detail, even finding a way to explain why blood
38:28was found all over his house.
38:30The issue is that these details are simply too coincidental to ever sound believable.
38:36And even Eric knows this.
38:37I don't know why this was like, I got to move him.
38:40I did the, picked him up, did the fireman carry, took him out of the bathroom, into the
38:45master bedroom, up the stairs.
38:46And I was like, cause I know they're going to want to come back in the house and search
38:49it.
38:50I was like, I'm going to be cool.
38:51I'm fine with that.
38:52I was going to let them search it.
38:53And I tucked him in.
38:54Excuse me.
38:55I tucked him in the area and I left the thing open.
39:00So when you say the area, you're talking like a little crawl space.
39:03Okay.
39:04All right.
39:05But getting back to when he came in, they searched the house, they went upstairs and he
39:08seen the thing open.
39:09That's when the officer, when he asked, I panicked and I was like, yeah, this is where
39:13I keep my safe, blah, blah, blah, whatever.
39:15But just saw him sitting there.
39:16Just saw him sitting there.
39:17Okay.
39:18They put the handcuffs on me.
39:20I went back downstairs.
39:21And when he went downstairs, I was like, life is over because it looks different.
39:26It's no matter what I say from this point, it looks like I'm a liar.
39:30It looks like I lied because I already lied twice.
39:32You asked me with the son in the house.
39:33I said, no, you asked him, did I know where he went?
39:35I said, no, I think he, he ran out the back door or something.
39:38And you know, so it always looked bad because I'm already told you a lie.
39:42Even though in my head, it's like, you probably should just said the truth.
39:46He probably only should have left from where he was at.
39:48Called police or the fire department or whatever.
39:51Yeah.
39:52Called police.
39:53But I was already in, I was, I mean, I wasn't, I was already in the, I said, Eric's going
39:58to die today.
39:59I was in seeing that he was there, that he was in the tub and it was like, tub is full
40:05of water.
40:06I was like, my son did this.
40:09No, I have to go with that.
40:11Okay.
40:12The detectives decide to take a break and discuss what their next plans would be.
40:15At this point, they both know Eric is lying to their faces.
40:19So the goal for the rest of the interrogation will be to get Eric to admit to his lies and
40:24ultimately confess to the murder.
40:26To do this, they decide on detective Adrian conducting the rest of the interrogation alone.
40:31Since one-on-one confrontation is generally considered to be more effective, Adrian would
40:35return with a clearly different demeanor from earlier.
40:38He's stern and wastes no time in asserting that his nice cop act is over.
40:45Are you good?
40:46Do you need anything before we get started again?
40:47No, I'm good.
40:48Are you sure?
40:49All right.
40:50So Detective Petro had to step aside just for a second.
40:55But what I wanted to do, like I told you, I wanted to come back and go back over some
40:59things with you.
41:00Okay.
41:01I actually wanted to go back and in detail just go through some of these steps.
41:06Eric would recount his story exactly the same as before, claiming he simply found Jason
41:11dead and had nothing to do with it.
41:13And it seemed as though Detective Adrian had nothing concrete to combat Eric's lies.
41:18That was until he brought out Jason's autopsy report.
41:22I'm going to tell you this.
41:23I know that you spent 10 years in the military and you were in the Marines, weren't you?
41:29Yes.
41:30What's their whole thing in the Marines?
41:32Like, what do they always teach?
41:35Honor.
41:36Integrity.
41:37Honor, correction, commitment.
41:38Yeah.
41:39And to be honest, I don't see that from you right now based on what you're telling me.
41:44Okay.
41:45I think you tell me something different.
41:46Okay.
41:47But I know you're a Marine.
41:48Okay.
41:49I know a lot of people, that's Marines, man.
41:51And that's one thing that they would like, integrity, honor.
41:54No, you don't mess with that if you're a Marine.
41:56Yes.
41:57I know you want to tell the truth and you sitting here like, giving me a story.
42:01You're giving me, you're giving me what I want to hear just to sound good, but that's
42:06not it.
42:07That's not it.
42:08Trust me.
42:09I'm not trying to sound good to you.
42:10And I'm going to tell you the other thing.
42:12Uh-huh.
42:13And I'm going to be straight up with you.
42:14Yeah.
42:15You keep talking about the autopsy.
42:17The autopsy said he was strangled.
42:20Hell no.
42:22Hell no.
42:23Hell to the no, no, no.
42:24Hell to the no, no, no.
42:25Hell to the no, DJ was not strangled.
42:26Hell to the no.
42:27I'm going to just let it sink in and let you decide what you're going to explain that
42:39to.
42:40No, DJ wasn't strangled.
42:41What happened?
42:42Tell him what happened.
42:43There's no, no.
42:44DJ was not strangled.
42:45DJ, like I told you, DJ went downstairs, he came upstairs and DJ was, he was in that
42:55tub.
42:56Like I said, when I came in that room, he was in the tub.
42:58When I, when I grabbed them out, I grabbed them like this and I pretty much put them
43:02in the fireman's car.
43:03When they left, I could drag them up to my room.
43:06If, if that's the case, I would have left him in there and I would say, or had them come
43:12in there to be like, but DJ wasn't no strangled.
43:15There was no way, no, there was no way DJ wasn't no strangled.
43:19Mm-mm.
43:20That's your boy.
43:21You had pride in him.
43:22Yeah.
43:23You had pride in him.
43:24You were trying to help him out with his grades.
43:26You were getting him in STEM classes and then this happened.
43:30But you saying DJ was strangled?
43:32No.
43:33Well, they didn't tell me what happened.
43:35This didn't happen.
43:36I'm going to tell you that right now.
43:37This didn't happen.
43:38You saying he wasn't in the tub?
43:39So, no, no, I'm not saying that.
43:41I'm not saying that.
43:42I believe that part, but I believe something else happened.
43:46Note Eric's lack of emotion when hearing this information.
43:49No tears are shed, but rather an array of defensive rage.
43:54This, alongside the other countless red flags Eric is portraying, is a telltale sign for
43:59detectives that a suspect is lying.
44:01You need to tell me the whole story.
44:03Like I said, DJ, when I came in there, DJ was literally in that tub.
44:08There was no way I'm going to sit there and strangle DJ.
44:12Not along with Tristan.
44:13Why would I, I don't even have no, I'm, and we're going to strangle this boy.
44:18I have no, nothing against him to want to strangle him.
44:21Nothing.
44:22Okay.
44:23No aim in my heart.
44:24No nothing.
44:25Cause then, like I said, if I was going to do that, why would I leave my other two boys?
44:28If I was going to do that, I would have took all of us out.
44:31DJ was not no strangle.
44:33So then what happened?
44:35Tell me the story.
44:37You started from scratch.
44:40Tell me the story.
44:41DJ was not no strangle.
44:42Well then, tell me what happened.
44:44You're not telling me the truth.
44:45Tell me what happened.
44:46Bro, I'm telling you.
44:47I'm right here, standing right now.
44:48I'm giving you a chance right now.
44:50Tell me what happened.
44:51You asked me to tell you that I strangled myself.
44:53No, I didn't.
44:54Eric understands the legal system well.
44:57Well enough to avoid offering a direct confession when confronted.
45:00From an investigator's perspective, he knows that admitting involvement is the worst thing he can possibly do.
45:07Well, besides not asking for an attorney.
45:10Regardless, it's going to take more than just a heated confrontation to make Eric crack.
45:15So Detective Adrian resorts to a completely different approach.
45:19Empathy.
45:20I'm going to tell you right now, the way this is going to be something you're going to have to live with for the rest of your life.
45:26Yes sir.
45:27This is something you are going to have to think about every night before you close your eyes.
45:33And when you close your eyes, you're going to think about what you did to him.
45:38That's what you're going to think about.
45:40You're going to think about what you did to him.
45:42And it's going to haunt you for the rest of your life.
45:46Or, what you can do is you can talk to me.
45:49You can tell me what really happened.
45:51And at least that load will be off your chest.
45:53See, I'm telling you right now, there's no, like, you're telling me to say I strangled my son.
45:58I did not strangle my son.
46:00That's what you asked me.
46:01I understand you're trying to align with me and show the compassion.
46:04trying to like, but there's no, there's no, there's no me and strangling DJ at all.
46:10Okay.
46:11So let's take strangle out.
46:13There's no me strangling.
46:14Okay.
46:15We taking strangle out of the equation now.
46:17Okay.
46:18What happened?
46:19I told you what happened.
46:20We taking strangle out.
46:21What happened?
46:22He was upstairs in that tub.
46:23DJ was literally in that tub.
46:25You didn't put him there.
46:26I did not put him there.
46:27No.
46:28DJ was physically in that tub already.
46:30When I came to that bathroom, DJ was in there.
46:33Did you assist him at all?
46:34No.
46:35With anything?
46:36No, I didn't assist him at all, but nothing.
46:37Nothing.
46:38I did not assist him getting in that bathroom.
46:39Did not sit him from going in that bathroom.
46:41He was upstairs already.
46:42And like I said, when I, when he went downstairs, he was downstairs for a good period of time.
46:46He was upstairs.
46:47End of what's name.
46:48I was down.
46:49Tristan was down.
46:50Tristan was trying to go with his name with his shirt.
46:52I told him, and that's when Tristan said out of his mouth, daddy, what's wrong with DJ?
46:57Tristan literally said out of his mouth.
46:59And I went up there to check on him.
47:01I didn't see, I don't recall seeing him, I don't recall him removing no belt.
47:05I don't recall removing anything that could have been around his neck.
47:08I don't recall moving him.
47:10So here's the thing.
47:12And I hate to frustrate you and I hate to, but I also have a job to do.
47:16And I also have to get down to the bottom of this.
47:19And when I walk through the door and when I hear everything that happened, things don't add up.
47:26Things don't make sense.
47:27Okay.
47:28They don't make sense at all.
47:30If you would have done things different, if you would have been like, yes, my son, I just found my son in a tub.
47:35I helped him out and told the officer, you know this.
47:38If you would have done it that way, it would have been different.
47:40But the fact that you didn't, now you're sitting here trying to explain yourself.
47:44Well, I'm sitting here because the whole situation, I'm sitting here because I lied and said he wasn't in my house.
47:50I'm sitting here because I didn't tell the officer, like you say, it's straight forward what was going on.
47:55That's two things right here.
47:56Yeah.
47:57How, like you said earlier, how are we supposed to believe in him?
47:59Yeah.
48:00So you tell me, how am I supposed to strangle?
48:02How did I not assist him in getting in the tub?
48:06And I don't know, possibly drowning him.
48:08I don't know.
48:09No.
48:10I don't know.
48:11But.
48:12Even if I drown.
48:13But here's the thing.
48:14All I know is that you keep lying.
48:16No, bro.
48:17You lied initially twice.
48:18How do I know you're not lying right now?
48:20Because, like, I told you straight forward.
48:22I'll say.
48:23You're telling me straight forward, but you lied twice.
48:25Bro, because that's why I say in the beginning, I say it's straight forward.
48:29There's nothing I can say.
48:31I say I already know y'all done your homework.
48:34Lay it all out on the table.
48:35I say because there's nothing I can say just because I already lied twice.
48:40I say he wasn't in home.
48:41I identify that.
48:42I mess that up.
48:43Because then I see my son is dead.
48:46Okay.
48:47Alright.
48:48Do you, um...
48:49I'mma leave you alone for a little bit.
48:52Um, to think about things, but do you want anything else to drink or anything to eat?
48:56Um, I'm good with the water and the chips.
48:58Okay.
48:59Give me just a second.
49:00Alright.
49:01Do you need anything else?
49:03Um, no sir.
49:04Alright.
49:05As the detective leaves, Eric scans the room thoroughly and finally notices the camera hidden inside room 2B.
49:12Moments after making eye contact with the camera, he lets out one last desperate act.
49:19It's trying to...
49:20I don't know.
49:21Unfortunately, it'd be too late to act his way out of the murder.
49:32Eric's testimony was flimsy at best and Detective Adrian decided he'd gotten enough to wrap the nearly 5 hour interview up.
49:40Shortly thereafter, Eric was booked into the Ann Arendelle County Detention Center under charges of first degree murder, second degree murder, and child abuse resulting in death.
49:49At trial, Eric would quickly accept a plea deal to second degree murder as well as attempting to disarm a police officer.
49:56And on October 4th, 2022, he was sentenced to 42 years in prison.
50:01If Eric serves his full sentence, he'll be released in 2064.
50:06After the last name, Eric and I saw an important sentence, I think he'd be able to be taken, and then he was sentenced to 42 years in prison.
50:11...
50:13And he's been left with him, and I'm still here in the terrible Miracles.
50:15Today, I want to make it a point, but after he just sat down, it's like a great interpretation of the death.
50:17I'm able to see him in the same time.
50:18But I have to go with judgment, I'm sure he's also here in the back.
50:23I'm sure as what I find out of a comunque, but with the best interest of this, I can't, but I know how I want to get it.
50:26I can imagine that because I can't find that for a while.
50:29You are the best, but I can find him that in the back.
